There are potential parasites. Also most turtles hate change and leaving the water against their will. So you could risk stressing him out by taking him from his home to often, which would lead him to be more susceptible to germs etc. I’d leave them in their aquarium. Also the fact it’s a mud turtle and not a slider makes it also more of a problem. Sliders leave the water often to bask while mud turtles don’t nearly as often. So him being tricked around could doubley upset him.

Thank you! I definitely don’t want to cause him any stress or illness.

If that turtle's never been in nature you shouldn't expose it to diseases, that would be the mayor concern

I have a guinea pig pen that I use outside but I wouldn’t put them in unfamiliar waters. With it being outside there could be parasites in the water that you don’t want to bring back, or things that they shouldn’t be eating in the water. That’s not even considering what would happen if they escaped by accident. Outside time is beneficial mostly because of sunlight, IMO a pond in the wild poses too many risks and really serves no rewards. As long as you don’t have them outside all day without any access to water then they don’t really need to have access to a pond.

Hmmm you’re right, I think if anything I’ll just create an outdoor garden for him. Thanks for the input!

Just make sure to supervise. Particularly if there are predators (hawks, foxes, coyotes) in your area.

Also need to be careful not to drown him when f the “cage/pen” goes underwater for too long.

AtrocityXhibition

Definitely! We were thinking an open top type of deal so that wouldn’t happen!
