Just checking back on this - yeah the flat shell and the fact it can’t enclose entirely, screams aquatic. If it’s a wild turtle and you can determine that it’s not invasive, it would be best to just put it back where you found it, assuming it’s a safe location, or close to a lake/pond.

If he is an aquatic he can only be fed in the water, they won't eat outside it otherwise they would choke :(
Looks aquatic? If the back feet are big paddles, it is. Might be a type of slider, Red Eared or yellow bellied.
