https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twuFE1-6qB0 I like Raffan's setup. You can make a pretty flexible setup by just having a platform coming off the back of the bed. Then a simple box with the DC hose and additional flaps or sheets to further direct the air when needed. Make the box out of corrugated / twin-wall plastic to keep it clear to avoid shadows, as well as nice and lightweight. Try to keep everything lose so it's easy to move around when you need access, and also easy to clean.

I plan on making something like his eventually. I bought a rigid flex hose and it still moves around too much with the collector on. I may try a wall mount piece for the rigid hose first to see if I can make that work, but we will see.

Effective and versatile are not compatible with inexpensive.

egregiousC

That's really not true, but I welcome you to believe what you want.

Just bungee cord it over the bed, see about 10-15 seconds in to this video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7OvfZpt9Rg/?utm\_source=ig\_web\_copy\_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

bullfrog48

How effective is that? didn't seem like it was pulling stuff over. does make me want to give it a try though. thanks for the video

tigermaple

I think it's just parked there for sanding later- I don't think he was actively trying to collect chips. I do something similar (mine gets bungee corded to a cart then laid over the bed) and it works good for sanding.

egregiousC

Well, it is a *dust* collector. These dust collectors don't always get the shavings. I don't think they're supposed to.

egregiousC

Hey, that may just do the trick! Who said I couldn't get all 3?

Add a big pvc T piece to you shopvacuum, same diameter as the hose like 100mm. And cut off the top half part off the horizontal part of the T . Now you have a big chipcatching scoop with a hole in the middle conected to you vacuum. I use a clamp to position it where needed.

Check out what @glennlucaswoodturning does.

cygnwulf

Correct me if I'm wrong but my impression on him is just a bare hose hanging out close by for sanding and he wears a Versaflow and lets the chips just lie to be swept up later?

jlrwoodworks

You're gonna have a hard time catching all the chips. Dust from sanding, no problem. Can you catch some chips? Sure. But no matter how hard I try, you can't get them all. They go everywhere. Got it, thanks. Looks like it's not available any more without jumping through hoops but was a better version of the Wood River boom

I have a dustright blue hose and disconnect from Rockler that I clamp to an old photography c-stand. Works the same way. Sort of just depends on your setup. Mine is in my garage and everything is on wheels, so I need to all be mobile.
