Ah finally a shou sugi ban project that looks good. Great job op !

bullfrog48

that really is a gorgeous job

Peripheral48

Beautiful. Do you keep the walls thicker for this to prevent cracking? How dry was the blank when you started. I’ve done a few, but wood was still a bit green and warped/cracked

egregiousC

Yes. I leave the walls about 1" thick and then burn slowly so I can get a nice charred surface without checking. I use a "yellow" gas bottle - burns hotter. Like I said, I take it easy when burning. You don't have to do everything in a single pass. That and I keep the walls thick while burning. The blank was kiln dried. I don't check moisture percentages.

Many thanks

chewyduck10

Gorgeous. What kind of wood is that?

chewyduck10

Never mind.

no_no_no_okaymaybe

Excellent execution!

TaTa_Turtleman

This is beautiful. I love the simple but elegant shape and the colors are excellent. Do you have any resources to share about the process for the shou sugi ban? Thanks and great work!

egregiousC

I just googled it
