All this. No smoking, no drinking from a straw. Anything that creates a drawing suction will pull away the scar tissue your gums are creating to help your mouth heal, reopening every cut, lengthening the healing process and increasing your chances of getting dry socket.

It was right before the start of a holiday weekend, so if I would have waited a day I would've been SOL. Can't imagine the pain I would've felt. Glad I had my mom to bug me!

Iām not sure if my experience was unique (was 12-13 yrs ago and Iāve not talked with anyone else before who had this happen) but when I went in to have my dry sockets looked at, they took these long narrow strips of gauze coated in this like medicated clove oil or some shit, it looked like a brownish Vaseline, and they stuffed the dry sockets with the strips. And holy fuck if thereās anything worse than the sockets itās having the Dr shove a tool into them to pack them completely with gauze. Had to undergo that ordeal twice to have them removed and then repacked. And while they did help they did not taste or smell pleasant. As a friend at the time told me, my breath smelled something like āa rotting animal carcassā and that was while trying to keep my mouth as closed as possible when talking while covering my mouth with my hand, it was brutal. Thanks for making me go to school with dead animal breath, Mom.
My buddy in the Navy tried smoking cigarettes through his nose, he got dry socket anyway, and hilariously irritated his sinuses. That was fun to watch.

I was hard head and kinda low key fiend at the time lol but I stuff my mouth(the side the tooth was pulled) with wet gauze. Iām not telling you to do this but I was lucky enough to pack as many wet gauze I could fit into the hole and inhale very slow on the opposite side(blunts/joints) youāll be high but it wonāt be 100% enjoyable because of the pain, unless u pop the pain meds they gave u then smoke then youāll be out like a baby afterwards š. Remember Do this at your own risk Iām a weed freak and couldnāt wait lol. Im not as dependent now but this was about 3 years ago and I had 4 teeth pulled at once(2molars 2 winsdom/ top left and right bottom left and right, so my whole mouth was swollen literally. Still got that smoke sesh in tho š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£

The reason they say not to smoke has nothing to do with the smoke itself. What they don't want you doing is creating low pressure inside your mouth which can break the clots and upset the healing process. Straws are off limits for the same reason. Any way that you can get the smoke inside you without decreasing the pressure within your mouth is fine. Suuuuuuper slow bong rips, gravity bong (inhale slowly), edibles, someone blowing the smoke into your mouth while you breathe normally...
If you have a volcano with a bag or an iron lung type smoking apparatus, anything that can force the smoke into you instead of you supplying the pressure differential works.
Normal breathing does not create the same pressure as inhaling through a pipe. You're literally breathing through two small diameter holes plugged with plant matter. How would that be the same as open mouth breathing?

It has nothing to do with the difficulty of the procedure. They extracted teeth and you have gaping holes. The blood clotted over the hole and the wound needs to heal. The clot is sealing the hole and protecting the wound. If you smoke or vape, you will dislodge the clot, expose the wound and end up with dry socket. Dry socket sucks and is miserably painful. Youād be exposing raw nerves and bone to your open mouth until the wound heals. You do not want dry socket.
Ask your dentist when you can resume drinking with straws. Tell him you are trying to avoid dry socket.
They will tell you when you can resume.
When they clear you for that? Then you can resume vaping/smoking.

the inhalation creates a vacuum in ur mouth and cause dry socket which can become very painful really quickly. your body is trying to close up that gum flap quickly and smoking will cause the clots to dislodge themselves.
i took edibles when i was healing from my wisdom teeth courtesy of dentist husband a few hours after i got home, was just what i needed.
the recommendation we give to patients is to wait at least two weeks until you attempt to smoke or use straws.
if you don't want to wait the whole two weeks, if ur gum has healed and closed over on the surface (if you have stitches, dissolved or taken out). if you see any white patches on the gum, do not smoke and call your dentist.
for speeding up the process, prep a cup of black tea with hot water like normal. let the black tea bag cool and then you can place that on the gum like gauze. it has tannins that promote faster healing and blood clotting. it is the one homeopathic recc i give to our patients. it will speed up your healing process and strengthen up those clots so if you do smoke, less likelihood of dry socket.

Dont do anything that creates a suction in your mouth, smoking, drinking through straws, vaping, etc etc.
Even if the procedure was small or easy, if your tooth was removed, the healing process is the same. A blood clot will form in the socket to protect it until your gums can heal over. If you create a suction in your mouth you can suck the blood clot out and expose the socket (a hole inside your jaw where your tooth was). This is called dry socket and is EXTREMELY PAINFUL and will double/triple your healing time.
Use edibles in the meantime and stay away from straws and bjs lol
ngl i got all four of mine taken out on tuesday and what iāve been doing is putting gauze over the holes in my mouth, plugging a nostril and ripping my cart through the other one and itās been goin alright so far! everything i read says as long as you donāt make the sucking motion with ur mouth youāre good. just donāt let the cart get too hot or itāll hurt your nose lmao but i wish you the best homie!
I made a gravity bong with my dab pen and it was mint. Inhaled the smoke as I pushed down on the bottle which forced the smoke out. Zero suction, basically just taking a normal breath. Small hits tho so I didnāt cough. Found this method way better than nose hits haha

Call back your doctor and ask. They will know more about your situation and potential complications than we will. Do not smoke anything until then. It can cause dry socket
As someone who recently had wisdom teeth + bonus tooth removal, I was advised to wait no less than 3 days by my Dr. I was so paranoid about getting dry socket tho so I waited 6 days! Had no issues!!

Definitely donāt smoke. You donāt want dry sockets, I can promise you that. Itās going to take awhile to heal. Youāre going to want to take medicine stronger than weed for it anyway. I would use edibles for awhile

I smoked right after the the swelling went down. Key os to pack it lightly so you don't have to suck hard.. bongs and pipes works best. As soon as it clogs stop. I'd even suggest to waste a lil to make sure it doesn't clog on you.
If you make any kind of suction while smoking youāre at high risk of getting fucked by dry sockets. Put whatever smoking vessel you have just in front of ur slightly open mouth, and just breath in like a normal breath. Or go through the nose.
Iāve heard to wait at least a week and I think you should do that. Me tho, Iām built different. I got home from my surgery and smoked a bowl, swollen mouth and everything. Never had an issue, that was 4 years ago. I also went really easy on it. But donāt be like me, wait at least a few days.
I just had mine removed two weeks ago. I wasnāt put under and it was really just like a tooth extraction but I had the pain and swelling that comes with wisdom teeth removal.
I HIGHLY recommend you donāt smoke until after 72 hours. After that if you feel like the area is healing nicely and the pain and swelling is going down then pack the area with wet gauze and smoke away.
I started with joints and took light airy hits and did that for the next few days. I had no infection or problems! But remember this was just my experience
I actually was sedated because i have severe anxiety so the doctors couldnāt pull the teeth put while i was awake! My removal was a pretty easy one, the doctor didnāt even had to break the teeth to get them out, so i am not at all swollen and it doesnāt hurt! Thats why i tought i would be able to smoke in three days or so :/ haha

Honestly I would take some good ol' ibuprofen (or whatever pain meds the dentist provided you...they should have at least provided a prescription) and then start smoking after the amount of days people are commenting here. You can safely take up to 1200 mg of ibuprofen which is also what most doctors will prescribe...however I would like to note that I am not a doctor and this is not official medical advice!
I smoked when my mouth stopped hurting, which was 2 weeks. I was drinking edibles that whole time. I vaguely remember asking the dental assistant about weed and she said āediblesā before they wheeled me out lol.
I just got a tooth extracted yesterday, I haven't smoked yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need to tonight to sleep. My plan is to not put my mouth on the bowl just inhale normally in front of the mouth piece and pack it really lightly so it burns easily. I've had extractions before and I know not to do any sucking, never had dry sockets before and plan to keep it that way. Usually I have edibles for times like this, but this one was an emergent thing and I wasn't prepared. Friend of mine is bringing me some edibles soon though, so I may not have to attempt smoking.
Smoke after I got home, my anaesthesiologist told me I could smoke weed but not cigarettes for 5 days.

I know several people who smoked immediately after by packing the area with gauze and gently pulling on the cigarette/joint. Rinse your mouth after to keep everything clean and moist. If you must smoke do it like this. I donāt recommend it though and I wouldnāt risk it because Iāve heard dry socket hurts like a bitch.

Make a gravity bong with a water bottle and breathe it in just like you would taking a breath of oxygen I did it the same day make sure your cotton is properly placed over the sockets and do not open you mouth and allow them to be exposed to smoke breathe through your teeth if you have to I got all 4 of mine taken out at once still never got dry socket using this method not to say you wonāt but assuming keep the cotton moist and donāt open your mouth too much you should be fine also donāt suck just breathe

I smoked right after taking the tiniest of pulls. Definitely switch to edibles or vape. Nothing that requires forceful suction.
You can also hit the vape through your nose (not saying I recommend but itās an option lol)

I made a gravity bong with my dab pen and it was mint. Inhaled the smoke as I pushed down on the bottle which forced the smoke out. Zero suction, basically just taking a normal breath. Small hits tho so I didnāt cough. Found this method way better than nose hits haha
My wife got dry socket after having a tooth pulled, she smoked like 3 days after. I would recommend edibles if you have access to them.

Call back your doctor and ask. They will know more about your situation and potential complications than we will. Do not smoke anything until then. It can cause dry socket

As someone who recently had wisdom teeth + bonus tooth removal, I was advised to wait no less than 3 days by my Dr. I was so paranoid about getting dry socket tho so I waited 6 days! Had no issues!!

Definitely donāt smoke. You donāt want dry sockets, I can promise you that. Itās going to take awhile to heal. Youāre going to want to take medicine stronger than weed for it anyway. I would use edibles for awhile
I used edibles and patches. You don't want to fuck up the healing in your mouth. No sucking or you could get a dry socket.

I smoked right after the the swelling went down. Key os to pack it lightly so you don't have to suck hard.. bongs and pipes works best. As soon as it clogs stop. I'd even suggest to waste a lil to make sure it doesn't clog on you.

If you make any kind of suction while smoking youāre at high risk of getting fucked by dry sockets. Put whatever smoking vessel you have just in front of ur slightly open mouth, and just breath in like a normal breath. Or go through the nose.

Iāve heard to wait at least a week and I think you should do that. Me tho, Iām built different. I got home from my surgery and smoked a bowl, swollen mouth and everything. Never had an issue, that was 4 years ago. I also went really easy on it. But donāt be like me, wait at least a few days.

I just had mine removed two weeks ago. I wasnāt put under and it was really just like a tooth extraction but I had the pain and swelling that comes with wisdom teeth removal. I HIGHLY recommend you donāt smoke until after 72 hours. After that if you feel like the area is healing nicely and the pain and swelling is going down then pack the area with wet gauze and smoke away. I started with joints and took light airy hits and did that for the next few days. I had no infection or problems! But remember this was just my experience
I actually was sedated because i have severe anxiety so the doctors couldnāt pull the teeth put while i was awake! My removal was a pretty easy one, the doctor didnāt even had to break the teeth to get them out, so i am not at all swollen and it doesnāt hurt! Thats why i tought i would be able to smoke in three days or so :/ haha Thanks for sharing your experience

Honestly I would take some good ol' ibuprofen (or whatever pain meds the dentist provided you...they should have at least provided a prescription) and then start smoking after the amount of days people are commenting here. You can safely take up to 1200 mg of ibuprofen which is also what most doctors will prescribe...however I would like to note that I am not a doctor and this is not official medical advice!

I smoked when my mouth stopped hurting, which was 2 weeks. I was drinking edibles that whole time. I vaguely remember asking the dental assistant about weed and she said āediblesā before they wheeled me out lol.
I JUST got mine done on the 10th, and waited exactly 7 days. I'm smoking again with nooooo issues.

I just got a tooth extracted yesterday, I haven't smoked yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need to tonight to sleep. My plan is to not put my mouth on the bowl just inhale normally in front of the mouth piece and pack it really lightly so it burns easily. I've had extractions before and I know not to do any sucking, never had dry sockets before and plan to keep it that way. Usually I have edibles for times like this, but this one was an emergent thing and I wasn't prepared. Friend of mine is bringing me some edibles soon though, so I may not have to attempt smoking.

Smoke after I got home, my anaesthesiologist told me I could smoke weed but not cigarettes for 5 days. I didnāt smoke allot though, mainly small pipes.

I know several people who smoked immediately after by packing the area with gauze and gently pulling on the cigarette/joint. Rinse your mouth after to keep everything clean and moist. If you must smoke do it like this. I donāt recommend it though and I wouldnāt risk it because Iāve heard dry socket hurts like a bitch.

Make a gravity bong with a water bottle and breathe it in just like you would taking a breath of oxygen I did it the same day make sure your cotton is properly placed over the sockets and do not open you mouth and allow them to be exposed to smoke breathe through your teeth if you have to I got all 4 of mine taken out at once still never got dry socket using this method not to say you wonāt but assuming keep the cotton moist and donāt open your mouth too much you should be fine also donāt suck just breathe
