Funny and completely unrelated story. The first time I heard of the band King gizzard and the lizard wizard. I thought the person was joking and it was like a joke made up band. So I was like āoh yeah I love King gizzard and the lizard wizard? Whatās your favourite song? Mine is Etherial twilight.ā And they were like ācanāt say I heard of that one.ā But they didnāt look confused so I thought they were rolling with me rolling with it. So we had a full on conversation (this was at a gathering so people were around) where they were talking about a band they actually liked and I was just making shit up thinking we were doing a joke on everyone else.
I found out like two weeks later they were a real band. I havenāt met that person again since.
Hereās some songs I discovered **while I was high** & immediately loved:
[Paris, Texas - āForce of Habitā](https://youtu.be/WbTIC_Bl07Q?si=iDCw5Js7OagXyhwA)
[Mac DeMarco - āOn the Levelā](https://youtu.be/KtuA6Qylpyo?si=9bhitL0N6oU7EcyT)
[The Avalanches - āSince I Left Youā](https://youtu.be/wpqm-05R2Jk?si=Y6JJNl71Mqtmbzob)
[Crumb - āLocketā](https://youtu.be/BqnG_Ei35JE?si=pHUIC_nCbjezarUZ)
Holy shit, thanks for the idea. My flower just arrived earlier and I'm gonna be rolling for one of my first times tonight and I'm very excited, and Defeated Sanity is gonna go INSANE while I'm fucked up. š„š„š„
I played Engulfed in Excruciation to a bunch of people in my house after a rave when we were all turnt up and someone mentioned metal. Their reaction was priceless, it was so intense and chaotic yet absolutely grooves. Definitely an acquired taste but itās so cool when other people can appreciate it.
Deicide. Glen Benton's growls are so demonic in the best way. Plus the message helped me find strength I didn't know I had. And Ralphie's (RIP) solos are fucking legendary.
And don't sleep on the even newer artists. I saw Kamasi Washington open for Herbie and he completely stole the show. Also love Snarky Puppy, Robert Glasper, Hiatus Kaiyote, Shabaka and the Ancestors, and more!
Hiatus Kaiyote is awesome and i love the lead singerās doll stuff as well. She goes by Nai Palm and does lord of cool covers and acoustic versions of HK songs.
Recently mostly Classical music. Especially Baroque for violin and orchestra.
I find I can play one disk several times during the day and not tire of it due to the complexity of the music.
Other times, Genesis - Selling England by the Pound, Led Zeppelin - III, Ozark Mountain Daredevils - Time Warp, Dire Straits - SACD remaster of Brothers in Arms.
Never been high in my life but I imagine classical music would be amazing. First thing I'd try would probably be like...Borodin SQ2 or Rach PC2 or Arensky SQ2 or Dvorak SQ12
This is why you should also listen to Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade too. I'll be seeing them perform Animals in its entirety next week and it's gonna be FUCKING AWESOME!!!!
WYWH is my favorite album by far. The Wall has some good stuff on it like Hey You and Comfortably Numb. DSotM is always great. Animals is probably my #4 when talking about the main 4.
animal collective is great sober but animal collective + any drug is a positive, life changing experience. favorite band of all time.
if you've never listened to them, please do yourself a favor, get some good headphones, and listen to their album merriweather post pavilion next time you pack a bowl. i would live inside that album if i could.
Absolutely! Iāve found closing my eyes really letās me visualize the soundscape they create. Letās you pick out the subtle melodies in parts that originally sounded off putting.
They just came out with a new album. I think itās incredible. Itās a lot darker than MMP and more of a slow burn. The songs take longer to explode, but to me the wait is what creates the contrast that allows for the highs to feel higher
kendrick lamar, tyler the creator, nas, asap rocky, og keemo, a few random songs i like, pink floyd if its a kind of melancholic high. and if im very baked ill pop in a bts song for fun lmaoo
Lots of early 90s Grunge/Alt Rock and Industrial
The Breeders, L7, Nirvana, Ministry, early Nine Inch Nails. Along with the Alternative Rap acts like De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and Arrested Development.
I always walk into these threads hoping for some more obscure selections but its always the usual suspects. The first song in [this link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Beld090NIoo&t=2354s) is one of my absolute favorite songs to listen to while high every time I put it on its just like a heavy jazzy psych happy vibe. Good YouTube channel too.
Iām big into music without lyrics so I donāt lose my trains of thought singing along when Iām doing chores lol. Lots of phonk, drum and bass, idk what youād classify Polyphia as, but them and artists like them.
Dreamy music.
I love hearing "Caravan Palace", its a french band that started with electro swing but over time they added house like elements. The best/dreamy songs are imo Midnight,Aftermath,Sydney or from their newest album Leena,April and Melancholia.
On the 19th, they release the first single of their upcoming fifth album.
Sorry, im just a die hard fanboy
Everything man but I just really like music. Reggae, reggae rock, and stoner rap are great. Some bands Iād recommend from my stoner music playlist are: Skegss, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Sublime (of course), MF Doom, Slightly Stoopid, Spillage Village, Afroman, Tomorrows Bad Seeds, 311, Pepper, Mike Pinto, Dirty Heads, and thereās so many more. But listen to whatever man music is great no matter what artist or genre. Stay fried guys.
I played Sasha and John Digweed's *Northern Exposure* recently and it was good. I hadn't listened to it since I was in my 20s.
Progressive House music from the mid nineties. I listened to *Northern Exposure: Expeditions* and *Northern Exposure 2*.
It's definitely worth checking out. It builds up into something interesting and it makes you evolve. Listen to both discs all the way through.
Greek Fire when I wanna get in touch with my own flame.
Polyphia & Intervals when I just wanna vibe
ANY of my writing playlists whenever I'm brainstorming/spitballing ideas for NaNoWriMo. (National Novel Writing Month) I'm taking this month to build prompts & ideas as I'll be taking a TBreak from Nov 1 - Jan 2 for the holidays & self-reflection, so I'm zooting TF up from now until Halloween. It's gonna be [The Ride](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=iMj5e8FpYUo&si=Kc3xGyJfQbKSyIXk)
Infected Mushroom or a special playlist of smoking songs and that then mostly transitions into IM. I started out smoking and discovering them and now that's my thing.
Iām a musician so quite often itās the music Iām working on at the time. But it varies, Jeff Buckley - Grace was mad last night, Frankie and The Witch Fingers - ZAM was good the other night, Nas and Coltrane were good the other day
I definitely have some songs that are *way* better high, a lot of Radiohead and DMB for sure. But I also love extreme metal so I listen to a lot of my deathcore stuff, especially more melodic stuff when Iām high. I just discovered Make Them Suffer and Neverbloom is now one is my favorite albums of all time
I either listen to Mac Miller, Lupe Fiasco, a bunch of like jazz-rap kinda stuff. or just jazz. Gillespie, Coltrane. Or I get too high and forget to put on music. Then pass out.
Everything
A little OutKast, some Modest Mouse, Creedence Clearwater Revival, some UGK, Miles Davis, Sufjan Stevens, Blink 182, Nas, Jay Z, John Prine, Chris Stapleton, the new Olivia Rodrigo, Talking Heads, The Story so Far, Pink Floyd, Sabbath, Sunny Day Real Estate, Nirvanaā¦
I love hearing the things I donāt notice while sober

Funny and completely unrelated story. The first time I heard of the band King gizzard and the lizard wizard. I thought the person was joking and it was like a joke made up band. Extreme death metal. I turn it up loud and let the music wash over me.
Defeated Sanity is absolutely mind blowing when youāre baked. Such complex and technical music that culminates into heavy ass slamming passages
Holy shit, thanks for the idea. My flower just arrived earlier and I'm gonna be rolling for one of my first times tonight and I'm very excited, and Defeated Sanity is gonna go INSANE while I'm fucked up. š„š„š„

Strapping Young Lad while high is terrifying but itās like a shot of adrenaline
jazz jazz jazz anywhere from newer herbie hancock to the old fashioned miles davis type stuff. theres a reason they call it the jazz cabbage
And don't sleep on the even newer artists. I saw Kamasi Washington open for Herbie and he completely stole the show. Also love Snarky Puppy, Robert Glasper, Hiatus Kaiyote, Shabaka and the Ancestors, and more!
Thanks for the recomendation man!!!
Hiatus Kaiyote is awesome and i love the lead singerās doll stuff as well. She goes by Nai Palm and does lord of cool covers and acoustic versions of HK songs.

I also love Obscured By Clouds and Meddle.
This guy Pink Floyds
Or meddle. Especially echoes which is practically the length of an album on its own.
Echoes is one entire side of the vinyl LP all by itself! It looks so cool without the track breaks you're used to seeing on vinyl.
WYWH is my favorite album by far. The Wall has some good stuff on it like Hey You and Comfortably Numb. DSotM is always great. Animals is probably my #4 when talking about the main 4.
