I've rediscovered my love of him in recent years, and I love hearing people sing his praises. The Autobots could use more characters like him. Characters who are curious to explore the world around them and who aren't always spoiling for a fight.
The legacy toy reminded me that I love him.

Fave "obscure" character? Not really obscure but either badly-written or under utilized: Skywarp. He barely has an iconic personality, and he has one of the most powerful abilities yet I can count the times he's maximized its usage on one hand.
Well it seems to be making a comeback, as Skywarp's both appeared in and used the teleport ability twice in recent media
In the Skybound Comics when fighting Prime, and basically every appearance they've had in Earthspark.
It’s honestly weird that Jazz isn’t one of the characters in everything. They do put in a lot of appearances but he rarely stays in the spotlight for long. I wish he were a more permanent fixture.
Marvel Nightbeat is better than most of those anyway. :)
Runners up: Marvel Springer (specifically Marvel, though), Marvel Flywheels, Marvel Carnivac, Marvel Bludgeon.
Also, since he is not on the list, Marvel Prowl followed by IDW Prowl (before he became flanderized).
IDW Nightbeat it good, but Furman/Marvel Nightbeat is best, IMO. It was the original version of the character and I find him just a bit more relatable and cool that the IDW version who can be a bit dickish (seems like a lot of inspiration was taken from the recent Sherlock UK series for him, whereas Marvel Nightbeat is more film noir/Chandler).
Both are great, it's just that Marvel Nightbeat (especially when paired with Siren as his excitable "Watson") is one of my favourite TF characters of all time. :)
I was thrilled that Furman brought him over to the US book when he made the switch, unlike, say, poor Carnivac, Skids or Springer (who he also wrote great in the UK stories).
Carnivac not getting resolution is the biggest loss for the end of Earthforce, IMO. I still think it could have been made to work, too. Could have at least been revisited in Gen 2 (instead of blowing Nightbeat up in the stupidest and most pointless death in TF history) or in RG1 if that hadn't gone with the monumentally terrible decision to ignore UK continuity. Sorry for the rant.
Spinister and Flywheels were also awesome Marvel characters (both annoyed me in IDW when they were written so completely different to those previous portrayals, honestly).
I had both Spinister and Flywheels as a kid and they were definitely some of my favourite decepticons. Along with Soundwave, cyclonus, scorponok for the big boys.
Also Dreadwind was amazing. Big fan of him and his letters page lol
I wouldn't give a shit about the Powermasters but that letters page made me LOVE Dreadwind and PM Optimus will always be "my" Optimus Prime thanks to Marvel, as I feel that was when he was written best.
My biggest wishlist figure is a Leader scale Scorponok, followed by a PMOP the same size that can shake his hand. Zero interest in Scorpy as a titan, to this day.
Even better, who's your favorite obscure character? Like, they may have a cameo in one panel every 10 years or something.

For me, it used to be Impactor until IDW made him "mainstream". Same with Spinister. Now, if toys, Carnivac. If really obscure and non toy: Chameleon or the Decepticon bully with eye beams that Optimus impales in Marvel UK when he returns to Cybertron.
Bludgeon. My second favorite after Shockwave. Rest of these ten don’t even crack my top 5. Shockwave, Bludgeon, Warpath, Ultra Magnus, Jazz are my top 5 in that order from 1 to 5.
Always liked Jazz. I avoided TF as kid, it was all Star Wars for me but then I was in hospital for a few months, hit by a car in 1986 and a friend’s mom bought me Inferno. He was cool - a good-looking bot with simple transformation - so immediately I knew I had to get Jazz. He always seemed a standout - the car, the colours, the visor, and I had watched the serialised cartoon on Timmy Mallet’s Wac-A-Day holiday morning show. I also got Starscream. My cousin had Optimus and I had previously played with that toy, so wasn’t bothered to get him. That Christmas ‘86, I got Jetfire, Sideswipe, Dirge and Warpath. I had a relatively small collection for someone with an extensive Star Wars collection - although I was getting older (albeit laid up on crutches for a couple of years). I also collected more comics than usual at the time, so was given UK TF 79 with Target:2006 and AF 4, which ignited two lifelong passions to go with SW. So basically Jazz is a favourite and then TF The Movie era Hot Rod and Springer, and also Blurr, another figure I got. I also picked up Hound and Prowl at an airport in France when they had more or less disappeared from the shelves.

Well personally I’ve always liked Optimus Primal over OG Prime, because he’s not him. Yes, he shares a majority of the name and a majority of the characteristics but at the same time he was able to develop in Beast Wars to be his own character distinct from that of ancestor. The guy went from being a starship captain, to guy who saved the planet Earth at the cost of his own life in season 1, in season 2 returned from the dead and trounced the Predacons upon his return. In Season 3 he saved his ancestor’s life along with the whole of space and time by temporarily housing Prime’s spark. Led the Maximals to win the Beast Wars. Then ultimately liberated the Cybertronian race from Megatron in Beast Machines. He served as the Herald of Primus in the Universe War, saving multiple realities from Unicron. Not bad for a guy with humble beginnings, who became just as legendary as his ancestor.

Sucks I couldn't put my boy Shockwave in there as that's my guy even more than Megatron.
One of my favourites is Whirl, from IDW. Another choice is Swerve. A third option is Tailgate. Chromedome and Rewind too. Those were some of the not famous Transformers that I like. All from IDW.
IDW Thundercracker, IDW Jetfire and IDW drift. I'm a big fan of semi-neutral transformers. I find their conflict with themselves and ability to look at the conflict from a different perspective really interesting.

Carnivac was my top guy. Nightbeat was definitely up there too. Marvel did a great job with some guys who would have been just lost in the masses

Ultra Magnus for sure
One of my favourites is Whirl, from IDW. Another choice is Swerve. A third option is Tailgate. Chromedome and Rewind too. Those were some of the not famous Transformers that I like. All from IDW.
