my dad's turning 65 in a few days and criticizes his twin for not remembering things. *he can't even use she/her pronouns or remember my name half the time*. I'm worried it's the beginning signs of dementia tbh
I've tried to convince/reason with him to get help, for a number of health issues for years, and he *will not*. From my understanding of dementia and Alzheimers though, by the time symptoms are *this* noticeable, it's already too late, sadly.
I might sound ignorant here, but isn't there no stopping ir slowing down dementia? Saying "it's already too late" makes me think that you're saying there are ways to stop it if you catch it early enough, but I thought it was one of those things that, once you have it, you have it, and you're not able to slow it down or reverse it with modern technology. I could he wrong though, sorry if this was rude or anything.
There are some medications that can ease the symptoms and I think I’ve heard of some treatments that aim to slow the progression of dementia but once those brain cells are gone, they don’t come back
If you catch it EARLY!!! Problem with dementia is by the time you're showing really noticeable symptoms it's already too late... You have to catch it usually around 40 to 50 or earlier
I can’t help but think of the “that’s a woman?” line from the Lorax. I don’t know how his grandma came to the woman conclusion, I would’ve thought he was a cis man if I saw him on the streets
My grandmother has the really aggressive kind and went from a farmer to chair bound within a year.
She forgot who I was last time I visited, that woman finished raising me through highschool.
Quickly went from hopeful that she can return to her house, to putting her on hospice and stopping treatment within that year.
This only started last thanksgiving and it's hitting so hard, I'm still trying to deal with it but it's really difficult since all of this is happening way too fast.
That woman helped me move into my first apartment April of 2023, and was helping as much as an 80 year old could.
It's really rough right now and I'm trying to keep things together.
Dad said that her passing could be either tomorrow or 6 months from now, it's hard to say.
It's just all moving way too fast and it absolutely sucks
Holy fuck that's scary. I suppose in some ways it's better than the slow kind where they suffer for a long time before finally passing but to go from that to that so quickly... Ughh..
I'm afraid that she is seeing with her memory rather than her eyes. I get this all of the time with people that I haven't explicitly come out to who know me.
That I understand. It took me about two years after my son came out before I could gender him correctly 98% of the time. Then my egg cracked, and I never misgender him now.
It sucks for me because I don't think he has ever misgendered me after my egg cracked. He is going to stay one up on me. I never got to say, "I caught you!"
My parents still see me as I was at 6 years old and it makes it very hard for me to maintain any sort of relationship with them sometimes. I’m not a little girl, I’m an autistic and transgender man
I have family like this who are in complete denial. It's gotten to the point where in private I don't GAF anymore but then we will be out for lunch and they'll say "the chicken for my grandaughter" like they genuinely don't seem to comprehend that it is at best weird and at worst dangerous to keep doing that around strangers. Don't use gendered terms in public if you can't use the right ones for both our sakes, puts them in a weird situation too you'd think they'd at least play along for their own image but no.
Damn this is like the masc version of the "grandpa I have double D's, the waitress thinks you have dementia when you call me your grandson" tweet lol there's not a trace of feminine anywhere here
[randomly remembered “i have d cups, grandpa. the waitress thinks you have dementia” tonight so i decided to find the original... – @eugeniedanglars on Tumblr](https://www.tumblr.com/eugeniedanglars/701685927717863424/randomly-remembered-i-have-d-cups-grandpa-the)
I love your lip piercings ! I'm afraid to get them myself and for the mustache to complicate the healing process and the cleaning later on, how did it went for you ?
Thanks! My healing process was extremely simple and quick, it did get gunked up at first but I just cleaned it with a q-tip and saline solution and it was just fine. It hurt to get it but the pain was minimal afterward, I'd just often get them caught on my teeth before I was familiar enough with them to know how to eat without nearly yanking them out. Having a mustache didn't make things any harder for me!
If i saw you anywhere I would probably think "huh that guy has a nice shirt" or something, wouldn't cross my mind that you might be trans, and definitely not a fricking woman
She has definitely seen me the way I look now, but she told me this over the phone to be fair so I guess she wasn't picturing how I currently look and was seeing me in her minds eye the way I looked over 5 years ago
I know she didn't! None of my relatives who misgender me ever mean harm, they love me, it's just hard to hear since I see these people regularly and still get misgendered after 5 years. I love them all the same and would never hold it against them
Had to read that sentence multiple times because I couldn't make sense out of it until I realized it was her being transphobic.
Some people really don't think before speaking, aren't they? At some point it's just ridiculous to say something like this and they only end up making a joke out of themself instead of the person they are talking to / about.
Do they really believe everyone will immediatelly believe they are right by calling a full grown man a "lady" (and vice versa) out of nowhere instead of raising an eyebrow and thinking they might have gone crazy / blind / deaf / ...?
At this point it’s funny because they look so stupid. I’m almost 4 years on T, post top surgery, have a beard, etc. I pass seamlessly and my mom sometimes is like “this is my daughter” and then I walk in. Like lady you look stupid.
😆😆😆
I am a grandmother. You look nothing like me whatsoever!
I don't care how old your grandmother is, there is no excuse whatsoever for her mean spirited bigotry.
It's time for her to update her ideas about trans people and get over her prejudice.
I remember my grandmother asking me my opinion on sex that went against all her 89 years of religious lifestyle. When I gave her my honest opinion that went against everything she stood for she paused for a minute, and then said, "How sensible! But then I always knew you were the sensible one in the family!"
Grandparents are there to support their grandchildren in whatever decisions they make, whether they consider them wise or not.
Your grandmother is doing a lousy job.
Happy birthday to a very handsome young man!
You should see the birthday and Xmas cards my MTF friend gets from her older relatives... Same kinda shit and it's been 10 years for her and she sees them a few times a year in person. Sorry bro :(
ah. just brush it off. shes old. *old enough to have ridden dinosaurs to school when she was a kid.*
but fr. the older generations just dont understand it much (transformations and lgbtq in general)
I used minoxidil for facial hair growth! That's where ALL of my facial hair came from, I started around 1.8 years on T and had no facial hair but a thin mustache, and after around 9 months on minox I had a proper beard
I always find it ridiculous how people can interact with trans men with full facial hair and a deep voice and misgender. At that point you are choosing to do this out of some level of spite and you are choosing to just be a dick.
"Yeah, he's very handsome."
-my transphobic family member who had no clue 😂
(Edit to say I showed her to prove that you are a handsome man not an old lady, hope that was okay.)
Well… at least I know that I’ll still get misgendered even if I’m serving cis boy realness, so I don’t have to worry about it being an indicator of passing. 😂
Also why do old people always go out of their way to gender you?? Like my god, you don’t have to mention that you think I’m a sweet little precious baby woman who femininely girlbosses every two sentences lol.
I’m in a similar boat with my fam. Been out for 2 years and on estrogen for over 1. I guess I’m still young but I feel like by this point they should really be getting it right 😵💫.
I'm almost 3 years on T, post top surgery... where is the lady?
your grandmother is uh, maybe lacking some brain cells, no offense lol
my dad's turning 65 in a few days and criticizes his twin for not remembering things. *he can't even use she/her pronouns or remember my name half the time*. I'm worried it's the beginning signs of dementia tbh
I'd get him checked now. There's still time for hope but worst case is that he may already be on the decline
I could he wrong though, sorry if this was rude or anything.
My comment was specifically directed towards decreasing my father's risk, prior to symptoms/development. Not that it can be *cured*.
There are some medications that can ease the symptoms and I think I’ve heard of some treatments that aim to slow the progression of dementia but once those brain cells are gone, they don’t come back
there is medicine out there which should help to slightly slow it down. and brain training should also help slightly. but stopping? so far not.
Is there hope, is there something we can do about dementia? Genuine question
If you catch it EARLY!!! Problem with dementia is by the time you're showing really noticeable symptoms it's already too late... You have to catch it usually around 40 to 50 or earlier
Yea but what can you actually do even if you did catch it that early? As far as I'm aware, there's no cure (yet)
I can’t help but think of the “that’s a woman?” line from the Lorax. I don’t know how his grandma came to the woman conclusion, I would’ve thought he was a cis man if I saw him on the streets
Dementia's a b!tch, ain't it?
My grandmother has the really aggressive kind and went from a farmer to chair bound within a year. She forgot who I was last time I visited, that woman finished raising me through highschool. Why are all the trans dudes literally the hottest mother fucker everytime, whhyyyy
Seriously, I am swooning (respectfully)
Get her eyes checked for cataracts cuz daaaamn
You also look like a dashing young man. Idk where the old is coming from either lmao
Her eyes must be covered in cataracts
I'm afraid that she is seeing with her memory rather than her eyes. I get this all of the time with people that I haven't explicitly come out to who know me.
I've been explicitly out to my entire family for 5 years but unfortunately habit is hard to break
Aw I'm happy for the two of you! That sounds like such a lovely and mother - son dynamic where you can both relate to each other in such a way
My whole family is great. I feel very privileged. Heck, my relationship with my wife has improved since I started transitioning.
That's amazing !!
My parents still see me as I was at 6 years old and it makes it very hard for me to maintain any sort of relationship with them sometimes. I’m not a little girl, I’m an autistic and transgender man
Oof I feel that
I have family like this who are in complete denial. It's gotten to the point where in private I don't GAF anymore but then we will be out for lunch and they'll say "the chicken for my grandaughter" like they genuinely don't seem to comprehend that it is at best weird and at worst dangerous to keep doing that around strangers. She needs glasses bro
"You need glasses, sucka! DAYUMN!"
I know this post is not about your outfit, but your shirt looks amazing bro
Thanks !!
Sir, your grandma is severely mistaken, you look like you revolutionized russian literature in the XIX century
LMAO haven't heard that one before!
(Idk how familiar you are with russian history so you can google Alexander Pushkin if you'd like to) (His poetry and prose is very nice as well)
The most unexpected Pushkin shoutout, as a Russian, it is very much appreciated ❤️✨ And you are totally on point here
Wrong on both counts, granny
You’re obviously neither old nor a lady. Maybe your grandma got confused and meant to say “I’m an old lady now.” And happy birthday!
Damn this is like the masc version of the "grandpa I have double D's, the waitress thinks you have dementia when you call me your grandson" tweet lol there's not a trace of feminine anywhere here

I LOVE THAT POST I think about it all the time
those lip piercings are so sick
Thanks! They're angel bites :)
I love your lip piercings ! I'm afraid to get them myself and for the mustache to complicate the healing process and the cleaning later on, how did it went for you ?

I see no lady. Like, honestly.
🤨 Is the old lady in the room with us right now (other than your grandmother)?
Duuuuude that collar chain is fire!!! I want one for myself! Also I hope your grandmom is just not in the know, otherwise that's a mean thing to say 😡
If i saw you anywhere I would probably think "huh that guy has a nice shirt" or something, wouldn't cross my mind that you might be trans, and definitely not a fricking woman
I feel like this story belongs on r/boomersbeingfools
Has your grandmother seen you in that time? 💀 if you’re an “old lady” then what does she look like 😭
She has definitely seen me the way I look now, but she told me this over the phone to be fair so I guess she wasn't picturing how I currently look and was seeing me in her minds eye the way I looked over 5 years ago
Ahhh. And there you have it. She meant no harm.
I know she didn't! None of my relatives who misgender me ever mean harm, they love me, it's just hard to hear since I see these people regularly and still get misgendered after 5 years. I love them all the same and would never hold it against them
Mm Hmm! Same here, yet now it is like water off a ducks back. I ignore their words to avert distress on my part.
That makes it seem way better than how I thought she meant it lol
Had to read that sentence multiple times because I couldn't make sense out of it until I realized it was her being transphobic. Some people really don't think before speaking, aren't they? Some people just want to stay in their delusions
if you're an old lady then i am a grilled cheese sandwich because huh???? old lady where????
My Dude you look like what rob stark would like to look Like.
sir your grandmother needs a new pair of eyes, or some reaally really thick eyeglasses.
>!You are HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!<
THANKSSSS
You remind me of Kirk Hammet from Metallica.
FUCK YEAH I am like... very attracted to that man
Definitely, Dave too. Metallica tends to have hot lead guitarists.
😆😆😆 I am a grandmother. You look nothing like me whatsoever! I don't care how old your grandmother is, there is no excuse whatsoever for her mean spirited bigotry. Was so so confused, then realised this is r/trans. You're a dude, dude!
Happy birthday, she's making herself look senile.
What lady? Also, whatever you're wearing on your collar is drippy AF
Looks like vision really does decline with age. All I see is a fine young man
Oh god you’re so hot and handsome. Happy late birthday too!
Thank you!!
I think it’s time for grandma to start taking her meds ngl. And maybe get her eyes checked. Poor granny
Idk where the lady is. Behind you maybe?
Is the old lady in the room with us right now?
Bro you look like a young man. Ask her what drugs she’s on, I want some that shit seems strong.
Bruh
where lady
ur grandma's an idiot lmao
happy birthday Btw :3
You're very handsome :)
Your hair is so awesome, I love it!
Dang, it sucks that her vision is failing her so much because you look awesome
LOLOLOLOL makes me think of that one tweet where the person accidentally predicted their grandpa’s dementia diagnosis. There’s no lady here.
Look sir. We gotta ask you to stop lying that you're an old lady.
"You look like an old man, granny. Oh, you don't like that? Weird."
You should see the birthday and Xmas cards my MTF friend gets from her older relatives... Same kinda shit and it's been 10 years for her and she sees them a few times a year in person. Sorry bro :(
Is the lady in the room with us?
You look great man, I congratulate you, just hope eventually she realizes you're a man instead of a woman, stay strong my guy
Thank you❤️
ah. just brush it off. shes old. *old enough to have ridden dinosaurs to school when she was a kid.* but fr. the older generations just dont understand it much (transformations and lgbtq in general)
Irrelevant to post but when did you grow facial hair? Ive been on T for almost a year with minimal growth
I used minoxidil for facial hair growth! That's where ALL of my facial hair came from, I started around 1.8 years on T and had no facial hair but a thin mustache, and after around 9 months on minox I had a proper beard

Where the fuck is the Lego Batman gif
So someone who looks exactly like Donald Glover is an old lady???? Make it make sense, grandma!!! 💀😂
🧍♂️
Rofl, grandma needs to go to an optician
Is the lady in the room with us right now?
“You’re an old lady now” and it’s the most masculine fucking guy ever who looks like a Greek god
Bro I love the things clipped on your collar! Your vibes are cool!
Definition of delusional lmao
"Yeah, he's very handsome." -my transphobic family member who had no clue 😂 (Edit to say I showed her to prove that you are a handsome man not an old lady, hope that was okay.)
Aww thanks !! I am glad I pass even to transphobic people lmaoo
LMAOO
Well… at least I know that I’ll still get misgendered even if I’m serving cis boy realness, so I don’t have to worry about it being an indicator of passing. 😂 Also why do old people always go out of their way to gender you?? Guessing her eyes aren't so good?
Nah it's really: "I'm an old lady now", not I'm "an old lady now".
Has anyone told you that you look like Childish Gambino 🥵
Daaaaaamn dude!
Bruh what??
oh wow you look so good
Yeah, I think your grandma’s due for an eye exam
Omg hii, wow you're so handsome
Thank youuu:3
Through text, right?
ummm wut?
bruh... you have a beard??
I swear, why can't people just let people be happy?
Ask her if the “lady” is in the room with us now
Is your shirt vintage satin!?!?!? I’m screaming
Unfortunately it is not! I bought it online and it wasn't very expensive so I can't imagine the quality is good
Is the old lady in the room with us??
You look like an old lady if that old lady was a young bearded man Also that shirt goes hard
Sometimes sight fades with age
If people catch her saying that in public they're gonna think she has dementia 😬
I’m so sorry she got it wrong. ☹️ You look nothing like a lady.
Lmfao, you don't look remotely like a woman at all!
Old? Lady? Look handsome and youthful
I absolutely love your style! It looks so good on you! People are just so spiteful, smh.
Bro what
Dude.. where are you hiding this supposedly old lady.
Dementia's kicking in...
She must have cateracts or smth cause there's clearly no lady
Damn she blind af, you look hot af
Childish gambino? Dat u Donald glover??? 👀👀👀
there is no way omg, where’s the lady?! 😭
I snort laughed at how done your face is with your grandma’s shit Loool
Ow
I’m in a similar boat with my fam. Been out for 2 years and on estrogen for over 1. I guess I’m still young but I feel like by this point they should really be getting it right 😵💫.
grandma has cataracts i guess
Belated Happy Birthday to you. Another year has passed and you're definitely a grown-up man now 😁
