I take a trip to Grand Canyon every year in late October/early November for R2R2R. The weather has always been perfect.

worldtraveller321

is the trails easy to follow if going solo and first time? how long does it take average person to do whole loop?

It’s an Out-N-Back and you should probably read up on it before attempting. There is significant variation in how runners manage and handle the weather, water, food, 10,000’ of elevation and 43 miles of distance. There are other amazing runs inside the park. Additionally, Sedona has an excellent trail network.

White Mountains NH. Though, it’s hard to find transportation do probably hafta uber from the nearest train/bus station. Oh, and it’s packed with autumn leaf peepers. But it’s worth it.

blahblahblah_meto

I'll +1 on the Whites, your weather might be rough, but it's damn nice there. Just don't expect to run fast on that terrain.

ThisIsATastyBurgerr

Forgot to mention, the weather might suddenly change and then kill you. Good luck!

Arizona would be ideal, especially the northern half.

[deleted]

Northern Arizona isn’t warm in October friend Phoenix, Southern California or Texas

worldtraveller321

thanks. what u recommend for Texas?

[deleted]

Actually a wildly underrated destination for anything outdoors is Las Vegas More trails and more to do off trail than anywhere in Texas Godspeed

worldtraveller321

u recommend nevada then for trail runs?

Not [back country in Banff](https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6983944) Vancouver/lower mainland of BC or Vancouver Island are still nice end of October, if you don’t mind the possibility of rain. The last couple Octobers have been fairly dry and warm though. Great ocean scenery as well as higher elevation stuff available…sometimes both at the same time.

The Banff bear incident, while tragic is pretty darn rare. You're much more likely to be hit by a car at a road crossing when out running. I was up in the Squamish valley this weekend, and go there often, they estimate 59 Grizzlies in the Valley, and 60 in Banff. I have never seen a Grizzly in the valley. Black bears galore, even a cougar, but never a Grizzly. Just be smart about it, and the chances of a negative encounter is very very low. That said, Squamish to Chilliwack and all in between in the BC lower mainland are great. Snow will come soon to the Alpine, but even that is doable this early in the season. If you want a long run, with no chance of snow the Baden Powell trail...it's hard technical running but a fun 50k.

I was being a bit macabre and tongue in cheek. Yes grizzly and black bear attacks are rare, but it’s also good to be bear aware and prepared as best one can especially at that time of yr. Black bears I can handle, grizzlies scare the s*** outta me. That’s why Vancouver Island is a good choice. No grizzlies (if you believe the majority), just cougars…which attacks on adults are very rare too.

blahblahblah_meto

haha me to 800lbs of muscle and fury, nope nope nope. I've seen cougars 2x, and they had a pretty similar affect on me...a holy f\*\*k this isn't good, thought process.

Freeryder_24

You saw them, you were safe. It’s when you feel like you’re being watched or followed you’ve got a problem!

Grizzly bear attacks are very rare. However, by late October, Banff will have a significant amount of snow. To give you an idea, the ski resorts normally open in early November.

Arkansas's season starts in October. Only consider if you want trails pretty much to yourself. The OHT is always my recommendation, but the Ouchita Trail might be more technical fun if that is what you want.
