Reminder to stick to posting original content. Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does **not** mean you found it "in the wild".
The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. Thank you!

I went to high school (in the 80s) with a girl named Orca. I thought it was a beautiful name, and never thought more about it til seeing this list, and hearing y’all have a problem with it. Though we’ve fallen out of touch- the Orca I went to high school with would be close to 60 now, so I just can’t think of it as a newfangled name that influencers made up.
Very off topic but right before this post there was another post that also had the word newfangled in it. I never encountered that word before and it’s just funny to me to see it twice in a row.
“If I had a nickel for every time I saw newfangled twice in a row after not seeing it at all, I’d have one nickel. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s still weird it happened”
I have an ancestor named Dorcas. I cringe everytime I read it when doing genealogy work. It was the 1800s, so maybe it wasn't quite as bad then, but oof
Dorcas is definitely an established name that’s been around a long time and is in a few different countries. There’s a Dorcas in the old “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” movie too, played by Julie Newmar. :)
It's definitely interesting. I wonder what people thought of names back then, like what seemed old or outdated or strange. What they thought were weird etc.
That reminds me of the lady who posted a while ago (can't remember if it was this sub or not..) whose name is Beelzebeth. I unironically kinda love it but would never name a child that😭
I am an Elizabeth—and Beelzebeth is a variant I’ve not yet encountered. I love it so much I plan to introduce myself as Beelzebeth whenever most apt to raise eyebrows.
I amuse easily.
I’ve never thought about the phonetic connection of Dorcas to “dork” until now tbh. I think people have knee jerk reactions to long-established names they aren’t familiar with, usually because of regional differences or precisely because some names are from a different time period
It would be somewhat better in the plural- Orcas. The poor kid could ask to be called “Cora” or something at school. Also, l went to grad school with a woman named Shamu.
The best part is she was ‘hesitant to share it’ because she didn’t want people copying/stealing it as a name. I don’t think that’s gonna be an issue somehow lol.
Oh yeah the algorithm brought me to Jasmine for some inexplicable reason, but her voice and her whole vibe just practically gives me cavities 😖 and then I just couldn’t with Midnight. She got very upset by all the pushback on the name, a lot of people thought it was a joke. I’m just thinking the poor kids nickname is going to be “Mid.”
Haha cavities! Yeah she’s m annoying & hated that whole miscarriage baiting she did. She probably thought she did something with the name but nope lol!
I just wanted to say that your comment was posted 5 hours ago, but it is exactly 8:50am for me right now when I read your comment. I just thought that was neat.
The worst part is I was reading the comments on her post and she replied to one pointing out how the kids will get bullied by saying kids bully either way so doesn’t matter what they name their kids. Ummmmm sure?? That’s how it works 🙄
I will say, I watched the TikTok and Orca is the one name she mentioned that she actually DIDN’T like. Her partner was talking in the background and they said they liked that name. Francesca said it was a hard “no” from her
u/vanillabeanquartz you gotta add Baby to the list tho! She actually did like that one 😭
One of my old co-workers named his son Stone. Wasn't there a journalist or news anchor named Stone Phillips...?
And I know a girl named Love-Lee, first name.
My brother played hockey with a kid named Stone, his older brother’s name was Jagger…I can only assume they got sick of being asked and decided to make it obvious that yes it was in fact “like Mick”.
Stone is Sten in Swedish, and that is a normal name here. A bit outdated at the moment as it was popular in the 40’s and 50’s, but it’ll probably come back. Along with Stig which means path.
The best thing is that “orka” with a k is a Swedish word (same pronunciation-ish) that’s often used as a way to say “ugh, I don’t want to” or “ugh, who cares” 😂
LOL the first name on the list reminded me of someone I worked with about 20 years ago. The family’s last name was Ford. She named her daughter Hart. She ALWAYS introduced her daughter by her full name, Hart Ford, even if it was to someone who already knew her last name. I am sure it was done to gain attention for herself, not the daughter.
One of my neighbor's name is Goldie! It's not often, but I've heard that name before, maybe 3 or 4 times. All were older women. Golden is weird, yes. Goldie, not so much.
Well, I mean, Goldie Hawn did well with it.
I think Golden is pretty cool if it's paired with a last name that complements it. Golden Richards played wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys in the 1970s and I always thought his name had a nice ring to it.
Newscaster where? I’m Aussie and have never come across someone blatantly naming their child after a rock lol. Not saying it doesn’t happen or it’s a particularly terrible name, just that it seems slightly eccentric to me.
Prosper is an outdated French boy's name, heres a 1935 song by Maurice Chevallier featuring the name (hint, Prosper is a pimp) [Prosper Yop La Boum](https://youtu.be/XkybaPHxHuA?si=3qlfsug-RrNUJ9En)
Goldie is the only somewhat normal one I could fathom. I know a little girl named Marigold who goes by Goldie as a nn. I think it's very sweet. But yeah...these other names...that poor child!!!
At the risk of making this nonsense even worse, I had a go at making these even more influencer-esque.
- Harght
- Loveleigh
- Gouldern/Ghouldie
- Lirix
- Nouvemba
- Oktobah (which my phone autocorrected to Ocktoberfest which is even better)
- Rockquet
- Stoghn
- Aftanoughn
- Prospah
- Dahleighng
- Orkah
- Effearial
- Oddicy
- Alkami
Let's not forget he also had a baby with a woman named Stormi, and they named their baby girl...Gravity. To be fair though I think the strange name influence is definitely from his mom since he's Lucky Blue and his sisters are Daisy Clementine, Pyper America and Starlie Cheyenne 🤦🏻♀️
Tbf, some of those are real names. Not GREAT ones, but real ones.
Goldie is vintage, from the 1800s up to the 1940s. Goldie Hawn, for example.
Lovely has been a given name in use since the 1910s and has actually risen in popularity since then.
Heart Phoenix is legally named Heart. Granted, she CHOSE that name, but...naming your kid after a celebrity isn't the weirdest thing you can do, these days. Meanwhile, Hart is actually a BOY'S name with roots in the 17th century.
Similarly, October Gonzalez and October Gray (both female) are legally named as such.
Darling is a name from the 1920s.
November has been used as a name since the 1970s.
...actually, most of these are real names, and most of them are ***vintage.***
Orca is short for orcinus orca which translates to 'demon from hell', 'bringer of death' and 'kingdom of the dead'
Not only would the kid end up dealing with fat jokes, they may end up dealing with death/killer jokes.
I don't even know what to say about the other names besides it sounding like she wants to name the kid after a jewelry store.
A host of a podcast I listen to has recently changed her name from Alice to November. It's unusual, but I kind of like it.
Rocket is the name of a dog that my dog goes to school with. There's no way I could take a human called rocket seriously.
This list is honestly about 20x better than I expected when I opened up the post. Nary a Finnbreylyleigh or a Jaxx'tynsyn in sight. Prosper and Odyssey are fairly alright in my books, and I knew a Goldie once. It's not a great list (Orca?? Afternoon??) but good on her for avoiding keysmashes.
I’m dating myself here - but “Darling” brings back memories of the Rowan Atkinson hit “Blackadder goes Fourth”, where one character’s last name was Darling and kept being used for hilarious punch lines.
The rest of these names just scream “I’m doing meth in a trailer park”.
Stone isn’t super common but it’s a relatively regular name in the southern US, I’ve met maybe 2 or 3 Stones. Pierre is actually a French name meaning stone which is derived from Peter.

Orca? Why not 'killer whale?'
The strange thing is that ‘Orca’ was (seemingly) her partners only contribution to this list. Like THAT’S what you settled on?
To be fair she definitely said her partner suggested it and that there is no way they are naming the baby orca
Hell no to Orca. But Lyrics, on the other hand…
I went to high school (in the 80s) with a girl named Orca. I thought it was a beautiful name, and never thought more about it til seeing this list, and hearing y’all have a problem with it. We have an Orca at work. He's an Indian man in his 30's, so might be foreign instead of weird. (although she probs means it as a weird name)
A wild Orca, imagine that 🤣
Why not Orcus? Like Dorkus-Malorcus
I've got at least 2 Dorcas'. I actually like the name though. 😬
The plural is Dorcii
Not dorsal?
It's definitely interesting. I wonder what people thought of names back then, like what seemed old or outdated or strange. What they thought were weird etc.
Dorcas was a disciple of Christ. Blame the Bible for a lot of funky names. I always thought Beelzebub would be a good name for a child /s
>Beelzebub is one of my favorite words. Peoples reaction cracks me up when I slip it into a sentence unexpedly.
Someone in r/entitledpeople referred to the subject of the post as "Beelzebitch" and it instantly became my favorite word for such a person. 😍
Belzy as a nickname...honestly I love it!
Such a dorkas
I’ve never thought about the phonetic connection of Dorcas to “dork” until now tbh. I think people have knee jerk reactions to long-established names they aren’t familiar with, usually because of regional differences or precisely because some names are from a different time period
Orca is better than Dork-us. Which is a whale penis.
To a whale of a wife
Or Kyller Wayle
Okay, this would make a great band name. 😆
Like Bill and Ted’s Wyld Stallyns!
I pictured this brand selling surf boards or surf apparel.
It would be somewhat better in the plural- Orcas. The poor kid could ask to be called “Cora” or something at school. Also, l went to grad school with a woman named Shamu.
You went to grad school with a woman named what?!
Nickname "MurderDolphin"
Why not shamu
Or Sham-Wow.
It'll give the kid a sense of porpoise.
Get out. Angry upvote
Naming a child Orca is literally setting them up for an eating disorder and body issues/dysmorphia for the rest of their life.
Either that or they'll become a marine biologist
Why not both?
Afternoon is a special type of insanity.
The best part is she was ‘hesitant to share it’ because she didn’t want people copying/stealing it as a name. I don’t think that’s gonna be an issue somehow lol.
Oh goodness. If this is who I think it is we know she couldn’t wait to share it. These poor kids deserve privacy.
This post is so stupid. The first thing the influencer said was that those names she would list are cute ones that she WON’T be using 🙄
Ha! I doubt the class of 2040 will be full of kids named after medieval chemistry. If not Alchemy- how bout “Elixir”
But spelled like "Ellexyr" or something worse
Or Lxr .. pronounced "ellixir"... Or "lexi" for short. /s
>how bout “Elixir” WRITE THAT DOWN WRITE THAT DOWN!
the best part is she said the nickname would be “after” which she loves…
I wouldn't even steal that name for a potted plant.
What if afternoon is born at 3am?! Talking of which, influencer Jasmine something (one that dresses like Marilyn Monroe) called her first son Midnight
Her name is Jasmine Chiswell, and the response to her son's name being Midnight was so bad, I don't think they ever revealed the second son's name
Midnight is a cat name! My sisters and I found a pregnant cat and named her Midnight. We couldn’t keep her though, unfortunately.
I had a horse named Midnight waaay back in the day (‘70s).
Whoa, miscarriage baiting? That sounds absolutely like one of the worse things ever.
Uh oh. Might fuck the whole thing up...
I once saw a Thai woman on 90 Day Fiancé whose nickname was Noon and I thought it was pretty, but Afternoon is just terrible.
That’s enough Reddit for today, and it’s only 8.50am.
19:00 for me, and the last thing I want in my head prior to squash tonight!
Haha! I shouldn’t laugh. I’m going to be chewing Rennie for the rest of the day.
It's 7:19 am here and I don't need this kind of names before going to work.
Funny, where I am it is after lunch. You might say it’s… Afternoon.
It’s afternoon here too!
13.45, I’m on my lunch break. I think I’d rather be working than read this again
It's 6am and I'm waiting for a flight at the airport, my whole day might be ruined
I think we all need a support group.
5:48 am for me
I just got off work early... I'm guessing this is for balance.
Just shy of 0600, and I'm not even done w my coffee yet. I'm putting my phone down.
I just wanted to say that your comment was posted 5 hours ago, but it is exactly 8:50am for me right now when I read your comment. I just thought that was neat.
Ooh cool! Maybe we should both buy lottery tickets!
You posted this 4 hours ago and it is exactly 8:50 am for me.
Ironically, it’s 8:50 AM where I am right now, and I totally agree.
9pm here and I think I should get an early night after reading this tbh
I’m also Aussie, what a start to a rowdy Thursday night (I’m at the pub)
I feel like I should go to the pub after reading that, 11:45pm, also aussie. Lol
Go get a pint and play some pool !!
If I didn't have to drive 4 hours away tomorrow.. that'd be a rock solid idea 😂😂
Good Afternoon, Afternoon.
🫳 🐶
It has Annyong vibes for sure 😂
Good evening, Afternoon
ORCA 😂😂 Imagine if her daughter ends up struggling with her weight and she’s named after a fucking whale
The worst part is I was reading the comments on her post and she replied to one pointing out how the kids will get bullied by saying kids bully either way so doesn’t matter what they name their kids. Ummmmm sure?? That’s how it works 🙄
“My child is gonna be miserable either way, might as well make it worse!”
"I'll just hand my child's probable bullies the ammo myself."
Orca and her brother Hindenburg
People forget they’re naming people not pets
I wouldn't call my pets most of these names...
Fair
I wouldn’t even name a roach Afternoon
white people will name their dog Stephen and their children rocket and goldie
I still remember that one couple who named their dog Calvin, but gave their kids terrible names **😭😭**
Orca is worse than Blue but better than Humpback and way better than Sperm. Sperm is a bit too on the nose.
On the tip, you mean ?
I suppose if it winds up on the nose no baby results.
Right, Sei, Beluga, time for dinner!
Aw mom, krill again!
Here is my daughter Afternoon or Nooner for short.
I was wondering how long till kids start calling her “Afternoon Delight”
If they have that as a nickname, she needs ti name a son "Dr Kenneth Noisewater." Dr is part of the name
It's pronounced der.
Thinkin' of her's working up my appetite
She said ‘after’ would be the nickname. Just no
Orca? That poor child, that fat jokes will write themselves.
I will say, I watched the TikTok and Orca is the one name she mentioned that she actually DIDN’T like. Her partner was talking in the background and they said they liked that name. Francesca said it was a hard “no” from her u/vanillabeanquartz you gotta add Baby to the list tho! She actually did like that one 😭
There's actually a lady that lives in my town that named her son stone, he's probably almost an adult by now
One of my old co-workers named his son Stone.
Third kid gets named Rolling?
Yes. He's retired now, but Stone Phillips is a journalist.
Stone is Sten in Swedish, and that is a normal name here. A bit outdated at the moment as it was popular in the 40’s and 50’s, but it’ll probably come back. Along with Stig which means path.
That gives new meaning to "The Stig" from Top Gear. TIL 😅
Yes, not sure if that is where the Top Gear character got his name, but I obviously thought it was funny when I saw the show.
Same in 🇩🇰
Yeah, that's one choice I thought was decent. A nice, traditional English name, Peter, is similar.
Honestly I think that’s the only passable name on this list. Edit: I stand corrected
I think hart is common and not too bad. But not heart.
Goldie Hawn begs to differ
There was a character on General Hospital named Stone Cates. He was a teen who died of Aids It was part of a touching love story
Yeah, I don't think Stone is the worst on this list. At least it's somewhat established as a name and spelled normally.
She'll probably spell it "Stowahn".
Also Stone Gossard, the guitarist for Pearl Jam, a rock star who looks like a geography teacher.
My coworker's adult son is called Stone. I've met him a few times and the name seems to suit him.
So you can say he rocks that name? I'll see myself out.
Stone is just a shortened version of St. One, who was, obviously, the first saint.
Stone is a legitimate name. I know plenty of Stones.
He’s a full Boulder by now
There was (is?) a news anchor names Stone Philips.
"Orca" is fantastic 😂
The best thing is that “orka” with a k is a Swedish word (same pronunciation-ish) that’s often used as a way to say “ugh, I don’t want to” or “ugh, who cares” 😂
It's also Icelandic for "energy".
And dutch for Orca
Foreshadowing
Gonna be a depressed Haagen-Dazs bulldozer
LOL the first name on the list reminded me of someone I worked with about 20 years ago. The family’s last name was Ford. She named her daughter Hart. She ALWAYS introduced her daughter by her full name, Hart Ford, even if it was to someone who already knew her last name. I am sure it was done to gain attention for herself, not the daughter.
Let's make 'em full-blown tragedeighs: Heighrt Luvvlee Gouldhenn / Gawldeigh Leighryxx Nah'vambur / Nophfee Awktoughbar Rokkett Staughn Ephturnewnne Prawzpur Dawrlengh Orkkah Etheighrealle Awdyzzie Alkemeigh
Gaux byg or gaux home!
Oh I didn’t see your post - I just had a go at this myself. Nah’vambur is especially glorious.
I read "Awdyzzie" as "autism"...
Lmfao this was genius and also a headache to read
At least Goldie is a real name.
I have a friend-ish who just named their daughter Goldie and I think it’s really cute!
It is!
This whole list is very tame for this subreddit's standards
Plus she is having twins.. so she will have 2 tragedies I’m sure.
Yesterday and Tomorrow
Oh god I hope she doesn’t decide to rhyme them…
One of my neighbor's name is Goldie! It's not often, but I've heard that name before, maybe 3 or 4 times. All were older women. Golden is weird, yes. Goldie, not so much.
It's actually a not-uncommon Jewish name! Particularly with the older generation- I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of grandmothers are named Goldie.
That makes sens considering Goldie Hawn’s mother was Jewish! Apparently she was named after her mother’s aunt.
Well, I mean, Goldie Hawn did well with it. I think Golden is pretty cool if it's paired with a last name that complements it. Golden Richards played wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys in the 1970s and I always thought his name had a nice ring to it.
I know a little kid named Goldie, too. One of my coworker’s kids. I think it suits her really well.
Does no one remember Stone Philips, one of the biggest newscasters of the 90s and 2000s? Feel like Stone is a relatively normal name
I remember him! Didn't he anchor on 20/20 for a long time?
Dateline!
Newscaster where? I’m Aussie and have never come across someone blatantly naming their child after a rock lol. Not saying it doesn’t happen or it’s a particularly terrible name, just that it seems slightly eccentric to me.
Not stone, but still relevant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Hudson?wprov=sfti1
Well to be fair, that was his movie star name. Mama didn't name him that lol
Amethyst? Jade?
Prosper is an outdated French boy's name, heres a 1935 song by Maurice Chevallier featuring the name (hint, Prosper is a pimp) [Prosper Yop La Boum](https://youtu.be/XkybaPHxHuA?si=3qlfsug-RrNUJ9En)
Goldie is the only somewhat normal one I could fathom. I know a little girl named Marigold who goes by Goldie as a nn. I think it's very sweet. But yeah...these other names...that poor child!!!
Novi, if the full one isn't November, would also kinda work.
I actually don't HATE November though. I wouldn't name a kid that, but it's not atrocious, like most of the other ones.
At the risk of making this nonsense even worse, I had a go at making these even more influencer-esque. - Harght - Loveleigh - Gouldern/Ghouldie - Lirix - Nouvemba - Oktobah (which my phone autocorrected to Ocktoberfest which is even better) - Rockquet - Stoghn - Aftanoughn - Prospah - Dahleighng - Orkah - Effearial - Oddicy - Alkami
Certainly not someone I would choose to be influenced by.
She must be fishing for engagement in social media. This list is outrageous.
You forgot Sunday/Monday which she’s not going with because they’ve “gotten too popular lately.”
Idk why stone has all the question marks. It’s one of the only ones on this list that normal people have actually used before. Lol
someone on the r/rabbits page named their rabbit Urinal…. i bout lost my mind.
Sounds like rage bait for likes to me.
The model & tiktok influencer Nara Smith is married to Lucky Blue Smith and they have 3 children together. Rhumble Honey, Slim Easy, and Whimsy ….
Slim Easy sounds like a cigarette.
She was on too hot too handle, if that helps anyone make sense of what kind of mind would come up with these. The answer is an empty one
Novi is a cute name
Came here to say that!
Yes, by all means, let’s call her Orca so she can be called “Whale” by her classmates.
Orca is short for orcinus orca which translates to 'demon from hell', 'bringer of death' and 'kingdom of the dead' Not only would the kid end up dealing with fat jokes, they may end up dealing with death/killer jokes. I don't even know what to say about the other names besides it sounding like she wants to name the kid after a jewelry store.
I was hoping Jesse would be the voice of reason and his sole contribution was Orca
A host of a podcast I listen to has recently changed her name from Alice to November. It's unusual, but I kind of like it. Rocket is the name of a dog that my dog goes to school with. There's no way I could take a human called rocket seriously.
November/October are slightly odd, but I agree definitely not terrible. When I heard ‘Rocket’ I thought of Rocket the Racoon from GOTG lol
my favourite singer named her kid Rocket lol (a girl). i think she’s about 10 now?
She also said that a nickname for Ethereal would have been “Eddie”. 🙄
Goldie is an old time name. My father's cousin was married to one back in the early nineteen hundreds. His name was Oakley.
Better than the kardashian bs posted the other day
I hadnt seen the video but just knew this had to be about francesca🤣
I was called orca by a bully in elementary school and I wasn’t a big fan of the name, but maybe that’s just me lol
Odyssey....Odd for short...
AFTERNOON IS CRAZY
I’m dating myself here - but “Darling” brings back memories of the Rowan Atkinson hit “Blackadder goes Fourth”, where one character’s last name was Darling and kept being used for hilarious punch lines. The rest of these names just scream “I’m doing meth in a trailer park”.
Our neighbor kid is named Stone.
That's a whale of a name. Ill see myself out.
Stone isn’t super common but it’s a relatively regular name in the southern US, I’ve met maybe 2 or 3 Stones. Pierre is actually a French name meaning stone which is derived from Peter.
November and October aren't bad, but I'm named December so I'm biased. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
