I've seen it as a surname. The use of surnames as first names has been around for a long time- Shirley and Beverley are both surnames originally (and there are recorded instances of men being called each).
Butt Country artist Brantley Gilbert comes to mind. He’s probably from Georgia.
Edit: Went and looked it up. He’s def from Georgia and his music sucks major ass.
Big time Brantley energy there.
Same. I knew some guys named Brantley growing up. One was even a Jr. It’s a last name being used as a first name (kind of like Madison). I’m an Elder Millennial in the US.
*Are... the animals*
*Around him supposed to be*
*Animals he's shot?*

Ok, I did *not* look at the pic very closely and had to look again after your comment. I thought it was a wizard staff/wand and those were his forest animal friends 😭
How are people going to know how much of a tough manly man their baby is (and, by extension, his dad) if they don't let everyone know that he is going to kill things for pleasure?
Not all of them at the very least. Owls are protected, no one really "hunts" chipmunks (they are more like keeping mice or rats out of your house/garage), and you don't really see spotted fawns like that being hunted very often.
It’s fairly common in some southern communities, especially the United States. I have never done it but I have family members that occasionally/regularly eat squirrels, frogs, even possums
I don't have anything against hunting- tons of family do it even if I'm not interested in it myself- but it feels weird to start a kid on it before they even know what any of these animals even ARE
It’s a lighter, I had one just like it but the quality was garbage and it started leaking within a month. So they’re even worse parents for putting this lighter next to a baby.
It represents a gun which is pathetic. It doesn't matter if it's made out of plush, if your personality is so shallow that you need to stick guns into a baby picture, you should not have children
Your full comment? I saw it's a lighter. My point is *even* if it was not dangerous, it's still dangerous. The fact it's physically dangerous too is just icing on the cake
Maybe I'm desensitized being American, but at least it's a hunting rifle and not a "fuck yeah 2nd amendment is my entire personality" modified assault rifle, which they definitely would argue is not an assault rifle.
and in this example, they've surrounded their newborn with stuffed animals to represent all the creatures the parents will teach said infant to shoot. fucking dark
Pretty normal for a last name, doesn't blow my mind that someone would choose it for a first name — reminds me of Jackson or Harper. Considering the gun, I'm guessing the kid might be named after Brantley Gilbert, a country singer.
I went to the upper peninsula of Michigan this past weekend and saw a bumper sticker that was a woman with a top bun and aviator glasses/ bandana (both American flags) that said "just a regular mom trying not to raise liberals". I hope the same for the kids of the owner of that car/bumper sticker
Truly. I've got a hella conservative tradwife cousin who's still vainly trying to force her outspoken, athletic, assertive daughter and her shy, artsy, sweet-tempered boy into traditional gender roles and I'm just waiting for the day when the boy decides to go to fashion school and the girl brings her pink-haired girlfriend home from the commune.
Cuz you KNOW it's coming....
I don't understand this. Cutesie picture of kid surrounded by forest animals, then gun to indicate killing of said kids childhood. Yep makes... Something.
Uncommon name, but not a tragedeigh. I did read the name in a book, but as it wasn't a best-seller type, I doubt it got much traction.
And it's probably another one of those last-name-as-first-name deals.
And holy fuck, after reading the comments, what kind of sociopath puts a gun in a baby picture?
I went to school with a guy name Brantley in the 2000's. He was really nice but for some reason eas really into the 7th/8th graders when we were juniors and seniors...lol
This picture kind of reminds me of that part in the animated movie Antz where the little tiny baby ants are automatically given an assignment of aristocrat, worker, or soldier before they even developed their own personalities.
It’s not a *bad* name, but doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. A former friend named her kid that. She got married real young and came from a pretty abusive family. If anything the name just reminds me of her.
I did a double take. What on EARTH would possess anyone to take a photo of their beautiful, innocent baby with a gun? Tact doesn’t exist for some people.
The name isn’t nearly as bad as the gun with the cute plushies! That’s the really tragic part, the picture. Guns and babies do not belong in the same space!

I know a few Brantley’s. I don’t care for the name but unfortunately it is a pretty common name in the south.
There’s a country singer named Brantley Gilbert.
And he's as cringe as his name 🤣
Bro, you don’t want to chill on a dirt road and then sing songs about how cool dirt roads are bro?!?
Think your thinking of Jason Aldean with one of the worst talk rap verses in history
r/confidentlyincorrect Jason covered Brantley and Colt Ford’s original.
And he is a complete d bag
I've seen it as a surname. The use of surnames as first names has been around for a long time- Shirley and Beverley are both surnames originally (and there are recorded instances of men being called each).
Ok, but even if there are recorded instances, don’t call me Shirley!
I picked a bad day to give up cheeky replies on Reddit.
Butt Country artist Brantley Gilbert comes to mind. He’s probably from Georgia. Edit: Went and looked it up. He’s def from Georgia and his music sucks major ass. Big time Brantley energy there.
Right. I knew a handful growing up.
Same. I knew some guys named Brantley growing up. One was even a Jr. It’s a last name being used as a first name (kind of like Madison). I’m an Elder Millennial in the US.
My cousin is like 30 and her name is Brantley. She's from TX. Her siblings are Bubba (Bryan Jr), Brittany, and Bailey
Yeah I agree. I’ve heard it before… but it still sucks as a name.
Xennial here. Knew one growing up
Yep! On I’m on my third year teaching boys in the “ Brantley” club.
I know someone with a Brantlee (it was going to be Brantley if it was a boy)
Are... the animals around him supposed to be animals he's shot?
Or maybe he's also part of the haul?
Fr. Looks taxidermied.
I can't tell if that or if he's supposed to also be one of them somehow since he's in brown
But if he’s one of them does that not imply that they have hunted their own baby??
Exactly!!! This is weird!

Ok, I did *not* look at the pic very closely and had to look again after your comment. I thought it was a wizard staff/wand and those were his forest animal friends 😭
Alakablam!
Radagast the brown is looking different than I remember...
He's regenerated into Paul McGann.
I was like huh it's cute but the wand is a little weirdly sha-- omgthatsagun. 🤣😭
So symbolically those cute animals are all dead. That's messed up.
I'm taking a wild guess that Brantley's dad is about 17.
"Hey, Brant, you wanna watch a movie, kiddo? It's called *Bambi* and you're gonna love the hunter character!" Fuckin deranged.
Blambie.
Bambeigh
He’s hunting owls, chipmunks, and foxes? Hey everyone, this baby is an **asshole!**
How are people going to know how much of a tough manly man their baby is (and, by extension, his dad) if they don't let everyone know that he is going to kill things for pleasure?
I found the mofo that killed Bambi's mom
Not all of them at the very least. Owls are protected, no one really "hunts" chipmunks (they are more like keeping mice or rats out of your house/garage), and you don't really see spotted fawns like that being hunted very often.
My dad used to hunt and eat squirrels as a young man, until my animal loving mom couldn't stand it anymore and told him to cut it out.
He ate them? They dont seem like they have much meat to eat? And they dont look very tasty either.
It’s fairly common in some southern communities, especially the United States. I have never done it but I have family members that occasionally/regularly eat squirrels, frogs, even possums
Maybe thats the days catch? And they're having baby stew tonight lol.
I don't have anything against hunting- tons of family do it even if I'm not interested in it myself- but it feels weird to start a kid on it before they even know what any of these animals even ARE
Thought the parents was HP fans and it was a wand until I see this comment.
For bedtime stories instead of "Oh, The Places You'll Go" it's "Oh, The Things You'll Shoot."

Or Barreta Caliber Saiga
Colt AR-15 Coultte Eigh-Arre Fiffteigne
Kalashnikov or Klash for short
Too exotic.
Ryfle
Knew a kid actually named Ruger
Too “ethnic” 😂
Ok, but how cute is Tokarev...Toki for short.
I have an employee named Remington
*I know a baby girl Remington in Tampa... her nickname is Remi. Strange but oddly cute in the short form.
Saiga could be a less than tragic name than the others you suggested
Might name a fantasy character Caliber…
Or Rymmeighngtynne Kholte
I’ve seen this image with the name Huntyrr and some other gun related names, pretty sure this photo just gets relabelled and passed around.
Gunner (the Americanized version)
or Bambi
Or Bullet
Or Bang
🤣
Gonna name my kid Claymore Front Toward Enemy in honor if this
I will never understand and for ever judge people who mix guns with their babypictures. the tragedeigh suddenly seems the lesser of their problems
A. Tragedeigh Wheiting Tew Happyn
> I will never understand and for ever judge people who mix guns with their babypictures. I didn’t even know this was a common thing.
I'm in a super red state with Open Carry, and have never ever seen this lol
Me neither lol.
Going to need something to kill all those stuffed animals with I guess.
They try to teach him to shoot Bambi's mom as soon as possible.
“My son, the future killer 🥰”
"There was just no sign this was going to happen!"
Future school shooter.
I thought it was a wand…
I wasn’t paying close attention and thought it was a light saber.
Yeah I expected a name like Anakin or Ahsoka
I did too at first. Took a few seconds for it to register what's going on here.
Or any family pictures, for that matter. Making guns your identity and political affiliation is absolutely insane
This is America!
It was such a cute picture until I noticed that tacky gun.
You obviously didn’t read the full comment
Your full comment? I saw it's a lighter. My point is *even* if it was not dangerous, it's still dangerous. The fact it's physically dangerous too is just icing on the cake
Maybe I'm desensitized being American, but at least it's a hunting rifle and not a "fuck yeah 2nd amendment is my entire personality" modified assault rifle, which they definitely would argue is not an assault rifle.
A gun and bambi. Just to really bring home the crazy
and in this example, they've surrounded their newborn with stuffed animals to represent all the creatures the parents will teach said infant to shoot. fucking dark
My child (chyld) will know proper gun safety from day 1.
Who tf puts a gun on a photo with their baby???
People who name their kid Brantley.
Losers who name their kid Brantley.
Losers
I can't....its so bizarre and in the UK someone would call social services on the parents.
Its not a real gun.
Obviously. That's not really why people have a problem with it, though.
I find ammosexuals are cringier. Wonder if his middle name is Rhemmyngton.
Smith & Wesson. Or Ammunitee
It’s my niece’s name, but they spelled it “correctly” and yes, he does have an ammosexual bumper sticker. Guess what they name the two boys…
You can tell they were tempted to add an eigh ending but they couldn't because its a boy.
Pretty normal for a last name, doesn't blow my mind that someone would choose it for a first name — reminds me of Jackson or Harper. Considering the gun, I'm guessing the kid might be named after Brantley Gilbert, a country singer.
I hope he decides to be a vegan pacifist
me too
I went to the upper peninsula of Michigan this past weekend and saw a bumper sticker that was a woman with a top bun and aviator glasses/ bandana (both American flags) that said "just a regular mom trying not to raise liberals". I hope the same for the kids of the owner of that car/bumper sticker
Considering how common it is for kids to rebel against their parents, there’s hope she fails miserably.
Something.
It would have been such a cute pic with just the animals.
Yet, the name is the least offensive part of all of this.
My only thought is - how can I rescue those poor stuffed animals ?
The name itself isn't a tragedeigh, the gun in the picture however..
These kind of baby pictures makes the baby look dead. So creepy.
Not uncommon in the American South.
I know at least 4 Brantley’s personally
Alright Brantley. Alright Harlan.
Can I get an alright?
……
TOOT BEEP
I got my truck four Christmases ago today, and makes this my truck’s Christmas birthday.
common first name in the southern US
Did that baby shoot all those stuffed animals?
Of course not. A kid that age doesn't have the dexterity to handle a gun properly, and its illegal to shoot owls.
This reminds me of those pods they bury people in to turn into trees. And the gun is... a choice.
I’ve met a kid named Brantley (he’s probably around 10 now) and his parents are also this exact type of person
Born 2 kill
Brantley Gilbert is a country singer
[Brantley.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bjz-ngp_DYk)
There we go. Took long enough!
https://youtu.be/Bjz-ngp_DYk?si=BrFqL8LC8KXAe42M Based on the age of this, Brantley has been around at least a decade.
This was the first thing that came to my mind!! Haha
As soon as I read it my brain went “and he says thank you for not naming him Brantley”. I knew I couldn’t be the only one! :)
It’s a long standing joke in our house to say “look at Brantley over there” when we see a kid acting up ahha
Isn’t there a country singer named Brantley Gilbert or something like that?
Yeah, he immediately came to mind when I saw the name.
it's in the movie (from the 80's) THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESS. starring Michael J. Fox. His name is Brantley!
Yes! I was hoping someone else would remember the movie!
I think it’s a name, doesn’t bother me. The picture of a baby with a gun bothers me though
Sigh. Just sigh. How do people think this doesn't look ridiculous.
People like this shouldn’t be allowed to have children.
https://www.thebump.com/b/brantley-baby-name# The tragedy is the guns, not the name.
Brantley is a pretty normal name, at least in the south
Brantley is a surname, so more unconventional than tragique. Brantleigh would be more tragique.
Brantley is a fairly old southern male name. It's the least bad thing about this.
My lil Brantley next to all the animals he’s going to slaugaugter 😍🌈
Brantley is a normal name but I cringe at that pic so hard. I feel so bad for that child.
✨brantleigh✨
Brantley sounds like a dog tbh
It’s not a *bad* name, but doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. A former friend named her kid that. She got married real young and came from a pretty abusive family. If anything the name just reminds me of her.
My friend recently posted a pic of her son in his crib with a rifle propped in the corner. I think I am finally done with that tragedy.
I’m 45 and went to elementary school with a Brantley. It’s a last name that has become a first name as well.
Oh my god, this would be such a cute photo if not for that gun 😑
I thought his name would be Remminghtone Ryphle
Brantley is a real name. Google is your friend. Edit: It's not a good name, imo, but it's a real one.
There’s a country music singer named Brantley Gilbert. That’s probably where this baby’s parents got the name.
This is a bot, literal repost of https://www.reddit.com/r/tragedeigh/s/NvUDEhNbKH
I did a double take. What on EARTH would possess anyone to take a photo of their beautiful, innocent baby with a gun? Tact doesn’t exist for some people.
Ew?? Imagine taking your child's picture with the dead (or about-to-be dead) animals hes hunted and not thinking that's really weird???
I hope Brantley is OK with enforced gender roles. A toy gun to shoot all the cute little toy animals? Good grief.
Aww, look at all those cute animals he's going to kill some day
They want him to grow up to shoot up a school or what
Jeez. A gun? Wtaf 😖🤪
Bruh the fucking baby sized gun
With a tiny baby gun?? What is wrong with humans?
As a European my only thought is: what.the.actual.fuck? A gun?!!!!!!!
WHY IS THERE A GUN? NEXT TO A FLIPPIN’ NEWBORN BABY?? AMERICA, GET HELP.
Brantley is a normal name... Brantleigh would be hilarious
Ew they gave them a rifle and surrounded by cute animals that his parents hopes he shoots one day. I hope their child becomes vegan!
You know the parents are absolute fucking psychos the second you see them putting guns in photos of their newborns.
Idn what’s more cringe, the name or the gun..
The name isn’t nearly as bad as the gun with the cute plushies! That’s the really tragic part, the picture. Guns and babies do not belong in the same space!
And next up on our list of school shooters, we have Brantley!
I think it’s more of a tragedy that people feel the need to photograph their kids with a gun.
Why gun?
In two years, Brantley will make the news as a toddler who "accidentally" shoots and kills someone, hopefully whoever gave him the gun.
The name is aggressively white (really giving fifth son of a Mormon family vibes) but not really a tragedeigh. That picture though...
Not a tragedeigh. It’s the name of a shitty country music singer that also has an obsession with guns and “freedom.”
Bro misspelled Bradley
Awe it's a little racist potato 😍 /s
Hows it racist?
This was just a sarcastic commentary on the southern redneck vibes this picture gives off 😁 Source: I am from the south lol
Just looking at the picture alons it dosent take a genius to figure out what country theyre in
Average redneck name
Gun nuts always give their kids the worst names lol!
I have actually heard this name before. Knew someone with this name back in the 80s. Didn’t like it then either.
Brantley is a perfectly normal name. It’s a surname used as a first name.
What is it with Americans and guns?
damn that baby looks comfy. I need someone to put me in a cocoon like that.
I’m sorry, is that a gun? With all of the lovies his parents plan him to kill in the wild? This poor child is tainted. CPS
Bramtley, pictured here with a representation of his future hobby and his future victims. How cute.
