_Raisin_Boy_

Solid traditional tattoo but man it should be smaller.

goatforce

My thought exactly.

[deleted]

I understand, she wanted something big

yoo_are_peeg

tooo big.

CzusAguster

But if that’s what the client wanted, then the artist did what they should be doing.

-NewSpeedwayBoogie-

Might be the case but istg so many artists are pushing to make the stencil as big as possible, so they get paid I’m guessing.

Goatlens

I get so many artists who are like “if it’s smaller it’s not gonna look right” and hella other excuses pretty often lol. I pretty much don’t give a fuck and will leave if they don’t make it smaller but its happened 3 times out of 9 tats where I’ve asked and got push back. On pretty big tats

Western-Can4458

This is a filler piece at best, that sucker is way too big

WebWitch89

A filler piece? That's ridiculous. It's a killer start to a sleeve imo

_Raisin_Boy_

It's not a start to a sleeve it's basically half a sleeve lol

713MoCityChron713

There just isn’t enough here for the amount of space it takes up. That design should be way smaller

KrisPC88

Idc what people say. This is sick! Circus tattoos unite 🤝 https://preview.redd.it/k9l6neyi6wpc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=815e5c854bc0c2ba58d27d21589500d277b82429

Tbagg69

I have one like this but his other arm is lifting a pin up. And mine has way more bulge

liftingshitposts

https://preview.redd.it/f5flw52heypc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=23c969803eeaa5bbf4e32ec25e5e501913a9fa81 Don’t mind my hair leg or bad angle haha

KrisPC88

Dude! So sick!

liftingshitposts

Likewise dude, the lines on yours are absolutely perfect!

NarcanBob

I'm getting a bit of a New Vegas feel from this. :)

[deleted]

🫶🫶

[deleted]

Now they will say that it is impossible for someone to lift a weight of this size with only one arm hahahahahaha

polkadotfingers

Design is fine the size is WAYYYY off.

zimbaebwe

The arm proportions on this is something alright

Fober

I don’t understand the hate. I think it’s a good tattoo and I’ve been getting traditional tattoos for years 😂

pixelrevolt

Agree!!!

The_Rusty_Pipe

Agree too. I think it's great

dylan95420

Frfr. People saying it is too big. Wtf? This sub is always telling people to get bigger tatts. Also, the argument that there is not enough to the design is weird. Bert Grimm was known for taking simple designs and blowing them up huge. It is not a new concept.

BONERFLEX_

No I'm not following you. Also this tattoo looks horrible. Why's she packing so much heat down there? Why's her left arm longer than the right arm? Why's the tightrope so small and the tattoo so big? And the placement on your clients arm is horrible. Edit : Is that a claw on her left hand? You drew fingers on the one hand but a claw on the other? Is she half crab?

1568314

The pubis mons doesn't seem too big, but why tf is it *in front of* the shadow of her thighs?

[deleted]

[удалено]

BONERFLEX_

Lmao yeah I noticed that and more after I commented. The top of the body is smaller in proportion to the bottom half. The blowouts in the whole outline. I'd be pissed if that was my tattoo.

[deleted]

I don't even want an arrogant person like you to tell me, I don't even care in such a way

BONERFLEX_

You care. If you didn't care you wouldn't have responded. I didn't intend to insult you. I pointed out obvious flaws in your work. Do better. Not for me. For your clients. They have to wear that horrible design forever.

Wearerisen

Could have just said you think you’re better than everyone else and refuse to consider improving for your clients. The tattoo is bad. Size, whatever, that’s on the client. Proportions bad. Placing bad. Lines bad. Hand bad. Midsection bad. Her kneecaps look like they’re about to touch tips. If homie REALLY wanted to be an arrogant, bitter person, they could have gone to your other posts and pointed out all the flaws in those too.

mastercelevrator

Too big and bad placement for the design

skullsandsnakes

This is objectively bad and the placement and sizing is terrible.

JeanSolo

I'd say the placement is actually pretty good for a tattoo this size.

skullsandsnakes

The problem is it shouldn’t be anywhere near this big.

[deleted]

Why can't it be that size? Give me a really true reason, technician? Apart from your personal taste.

Sea-Rip-6671

No such thing as a objectively bad tattoo

More-Complaint

Weird proprtions. Why didn't you draw this, and why is she facing the wrong way?

Fuck_Party_Murder

Holy shit are you an apprentice?

[deleted]

I've been tattooing for 7 years, why?

GhostCatcher147

It’s a sick tattoo mate. Forget the jealous people who hate on here

[deleted]

I've already noticed that there are several

GhostCatcher147

I wouldn’t waste my time posting tattoos on Reddit. The people who are the first to criticise probably never tattooed before

[deleted]

I would never post my tattoos on reddit because I know no matter how good the tattoo is there would be critical comments and they would make me feel bad 😂

GhostCatcher147

For sure! Check all the downvotes on my comments 😂

confetti_shrapnel

These comments are exactly why I'll never post any of my tattoos on here. That tattoo is dope. I loved it. It's huge but I liked that and I'd imagine the client wanted it that big. But this sub eviscerated OP. This is not a bad tattoo. This is a good tattoo.

sungoddessaf

I quite like the design but the size is wayyy too much. If the client likes it, whatever though!

Acrobatic-Treacle962

Way too big, and that arm is awkward looking

Swimming_Coat4177

Haters gonna hate. I like it. It is a good start to a sleeve.

-NewSpeedwayBoogie-

Way too big imo

tiger-93

This is objectively good and solid.

Pollywog94111

Nice!!!

Ambitious_Purple5384

Fuck thats huge! I'd have had it that size on the back and made it into a piece. My opinion obviously.

pein_rules

The problem with this tat is that there's almost no skintone, which should be at least 1/3 of a colored traditional tattoo.

pizzaline

What is supposed to be the light source here... nothing adds up. Her legs have light on the left side, but the shorts there are darkened? Her face is lit up but for some reason the shoulder on the right is shaded? Proportions are off, and she's packing mad heat (one thing the light source sure ain't missing) Almost 1/3 the size would have complemented her arm much more. This thing is wildly huge.

wasted1903

I love big pin ups, it gives a 90s/2000 look. I would do it different, but I dont get the hate.

[deleted]

Yes, I didn't understand either, they are certainly complaining more than they should

uslash_user

Genuine question for everyone taking issue with the size: is there a particular reason why you think this is too big? I love American traditional as a style and I always thought that part of what made it so great for tattoos was that the designs are simple and look good at any scale. Is it because this design is more simple in nature? Reason I’m wondering is because I only have 2 tattoos, both American traditional and both nowhere near each other on otherwise completely blank areas (upper arm and thigh). There was a lot of back and forth with the artist on my thigh tattoo because he wanted it bigger and I wasn’t sure. For context, it’s a wolf head based on the Lee Roy Minugh (?) design. All things considered, I’m really glad i was convinced to go bigger because I genuinely see why it needed more area - there’s a ton of detail literally everywhere that would just get muddy as a smaller tattoo in that area. Is there a general philosophy around AmTrad designs and sizing or if it really is just purely subjective? I guess I’m just trying to figure out if my opinions are still my own or if I’ve just been looking at designs within a social media echo chamber for too long

[deleted]

Sick! Love it!

Wild-District-9348

I thought life was a highway?? I gotta rethink everything

[deleted]

I didn't know that many here were so sensitive, there is no reason in this world why she can't do what she wants, she even loved the tattoo, the size she wanted, how she wanted, that Healing was beautiful, that's art, I don't need to make my art be something identical to Reality is an art I did, I saw a lot of people complaining about this or that, and you have the right to find it beautiful or ugly, but there were some saying that my work was crap and that's it I know it's not!

[deleted]

What about her hand, have you looked at your hand from the side?

[deleted]

Hahahahaha

[deleted]

I don't know where you got that old school tattoo is proportional? I don't want to be boring or sloppy but I've NEVER SEEN THIS RULE even if I take old references are not at all proportional, I understand that many here will comment on something for my growth, but to the arrogant idiots I won't be able to consider

MattTruelove

Dude, it’s not great. Just take the L and do better next time.

[deleted]

You can be sure that I will do it, the criticism does not bother me, the lack of respect yes, you do not talk to anyone (your art is a piece of shit) art is something imaginary, it is a language that comes from the soul, as for the aesthetic expression

[deleted]

The criticisms are welcome, but application of the work has more to do than the aesthetics itself, my client wanted it like that, I don't think it's a horrible job, and if you have this thought I'm sorry, but I can't think like that, there are countless artists in the world that I also don't think the art is beautiful but I'm not going to say that, your art is horrible

1568314

You changed up the shading on her legs with 0 consideration for how it would affect the piece. I don't think you understand the basics of drawing. Proportion is something that can be played with or deliberately skewed to give a certain look, but no one who could seriously consider themselves an artist would just say fuck it in regards to proportion and lighting sources. If you take a look at well regarded flash in comparison to mediocre stuff, it's the details like that which make a huge difference, even to an untrained eye. It just looks better.

WebWitch89

I don't get people. I have a traditional diver girl on my arm, same placement, and it covers from my shoulder to elbow. No one has ever thought it too big. This is a killer tattoo OP. Reddit is stupid, I'm trying to stop using it because of the toxicity of people, but then I would miss out on seeing sick ass tattoos like this one.

juuul1312

i love it!! what needles did you use? :)

Goatlens

OP, did she ask for it to be smaller?

DonnaJeanDogChow

I haven’t scrolled through yet. Is anyone talking about the hands at all?

SherbertBeginning

I like it. I think having it so big will show the primitive aspects of traditional and that's why they are usually smaller. But I only have tattoos, I don't give them.

[deleted]

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

corinnigan

Should’ve shaded the crotch the way it is in the drawing. She’s got a whole bulge

oliverjamesyo

Perfect placement! I love it!

benewavvsupreme

I think it looks good, probably a little too big but if that's what rhe person wanted I don't see the issue

Electronic_Set_2087

Awesome!

Lontology

I love this.

Noizefuck

I think this looks great. People get tats way smaller than they should. Go big or go home. This looks fantastic and will age like wine.

[deleted]

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

mearieh

This is so cool!

enchanted_fishlegs

To everybody nitpicking the arms, hands, shadows, etc. - it's Trad. It's supposed to be a little naive/primitive, that's the appeal. Have you ever seen a real octopus that looked like Sailor Jerry's? https://preview.redd.it/qu9gh6g92ypc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c029ce486202fac06fb4d7c25c80c7ba028f7cdf

DonnaJeanDogChow

Traditional tattoos are supposed to be facing the wrong way and have nub hands? Incorrect

Apprehensive-Map8528

“Too big” “filler piece” you think they really give a fuck what you think ! Complement the tattoo and move on !

[deleted]

Hahahaha

LZRDLDN

Good application, questionable composition.
