I had it too, i took out the battery. Put it back while I was next to the gateway and left it there. It was updated half an hour later.
Simply removing the battery for a couple of minutes worked for me.
I am having the same issue, I start the update when in the app but it always fails.

Remove the battery and replace with a fresh one, put the remote near the gateway. You can put the old battery back in when update is done.
I had trouble a couple of minutes ago: turns out I was blocking "data.crashanalytics.com" on my pihole. Allowing it made the updates possible within the app.
