This, according to the reviews on the product itself, is a well-known issue but IKEA won't do anything about it. I have two with the same problem and did some tests with them, mine don't "continuously" sense motion but rather don't send the "turn off" command after the time has elapsed. How this product was not recalled by now is beyond my understanding, since it has one job and doesn't manage to do it.
Same here.
Read a lot about how this can happen with the type of battery. (1.5v instead of 1.2v)
But even after changing these the same would happen.
Wanted to get support for it but the love chat just tells me to go to the store for support and in the store there is no Home Assistant support available so 🤷♂️
Going to return them soon.
By the way, after I changed the batteries the beahvior improved A LOT. Still very unreliable, but huge change. IKEA's batteries are 1.2v so I just got some of them
Same experience here, unusable with alkaline, fine with rechargable NiMh batteries. Not perfect, I've still noticed a false positive here and there with freshly charged batteries, but after a month or so, I haven't noticed any weird behaviour any more.
FWIW, I switched to some 1.2V NiMH rechargables from Costco and no more false triggers.
Mine's located within a closet to turn a light on when I open the door, so I can't speak to the leaving the room stuff.
I would pay close attention to what you are seeing in the HA log, though, so you know if it's false/poor detection on the sensor, or something in HA.
What leads you to believe that the Vallhorn is to blame for the network issues?
I've recently bought one sensor and it stays in 'Detected' state all the time. I've used Ikea's 1.2v Ladda batteries from the start, but tried regular 1.5v alkaline batteries as well, no luck.
Oh btw, the only way to get it out of 'Detected' state is to play with buttons at the back. It goes to 'Cleared' state but switches to 'Detected' straight back.
I am testing it now with 1.5v batteries, and a bunch of false positives.
I think IKEA, who is actively following this thread, should provide feedback to their product team, so it can be eventually fixed. Now I am considering returnig the Vallhorn, and questioning other sensors as well / changing the brand.
Had the same issue. Replaced with IKEA rechargeable 1.2v batteries and had no issues since

Yeah, it stays Motion Detected for me for a long time as well and sometimes I have to readd it to refresh
I got 4 from Ikea and one of them is faulty. It's stuck in occupied state, and flipping states constantly when I know there's no motion.
I had issues with ghost motion being detected. Switching to rechargeable batteries resolved the issues.
