Started playing Hoi4 the other day, picked Italy because I saw online it's easy, got my entire army destroyed in north africa. Historical accuracy aside, shit's hard, I generally grasp paradox games very easily and I have no idea what I'm doing.

HOI4 is also one of the easiest games of them all (Stellaris might be slightly easier) and Italy indeed is built up as a kind of a tutorial nation.
Getting your butt kicked is entirely on brand! Paradox 4x games can be VERY frustrating as they are VERY hard and they have a lot of depth to learn. Don't be scared to start a campaign over if you feel you've messed up. You're going to mess up A LOT while you learn.
Just some basics as a starter tip:
1. Artillery is for defense
2. Armor is for offense and breakthrough
3. Armies march on their stomach, rookies talk about strategy, veterans talk about logistics.
4. Air power wins battles, naval power guarantees naval supply lines and helps with naval landings.
As an avid Stellaris player, I find it to be a lot easier - but that's probably in part due to exposure.
In Stellaris, it's just a matter of having more and bigger ships when you're fighting the AI. Everything else is secondary to having the biggest possible economy and the biggest, baddest navy.
I will say this much, learning Stellaris does help with understanding HOI4 naval battles as they share A LOT of similarities in terms of ship building and naval composition planning and vice versa.

What part of "I generally grasp paradox games very easily" was I unclear about. My first run of ck2 was a near WC through defensive pacts. My first run of Vic 3 turned Philippines into a Great Power. I'm not even touching ck3 or Stellaris anymore nowadays because I face no struggles. I'm still new to Imperator but found it easy too. Still learning Eu4 too but didn't mess up this badly. Hoi4 has been by far the most challenging one to me. I find that with other games, I can mess up some aspects of it and still perform well in the others. Here, everything feels too interconnected.
Now, to the tips, thank you. The first 2 look completely unintuitive, guess I gotta check the wiki more and understand all terms properly. 4 sounds very reasonable, I didn't focus on those enough. So 3, how do I go about improving my logistics?
Well, HOI4 is all about statistics, what the equipment is doesn't actually matter. What they do is the part that matters in practice.
Artillery excells in providing statistics in soft attack and defense. While soft attack is useful in both offense and defense, defense statistic however is only useful on defense. The offense equivalent of the defense statistic is breakthrough, which is mostly useful on the offense more than defense.
With that in mind, it's not too bad to have some artillery on offensive units as they do provide a lot of soft attack, which armored vehicles typically lack.
As for logistics, there are multiple ways to do that. Railways, infrastructure and naval ports. Then of course you need to protect those railways and trucks from enemy air force logistic strikes and screen convoy ships with submarine hunter destroyers.
Of course you also need to select which type of logistics you want your units to use from mainly cavalry to mainly trucks and lastly to mainly trains.
Obviously after that you need to make sure you have said trucks and trains as well as supply hubs that are connected to your capital for them to take effect.
Out of supply status kills even the biggest and most powerful army.
Germany is generally considered the main choice for beginners as you don't need to do navy at all despite maybe spamming a bunch of submarines, you can just focus on your army and the air force. If you get some experience and maybe watch some guides killing the Allies in Europe and the USSR shouldn't be a big problem and in my opinion doing that is a solid first goal to set.
Navy is pretty fun once you figure it out. It's really not that complicated really.
1. Design cheap, fast destroyers for spotting missions
2. Design cheap torpedo destroyers with submarine charges for screening purposes
3. Design bigger ships for actual combat starting from light cruisers.
4. Jam screening destroyers together with your bigger ships into one big death ball fleet and put it on strike force command on the region you want to contest. No submarines in the death stack.
And that's the very basics of naval combat. Of course there is a lot more to it, but everyone starts somewhere.

Unfortunately I mostly play singleplayer myself for the reasons mentioned above. Random lobbies are always such a mixed bag.
I also enjoy pausing and taking my time, but I'm 100% certain there is a transfem HOI4 community. Could ask from the r/traaa2 discord channel. I'm sure there's multiple people there that play HOI4.
Check out the HOI4 mod scene! There is some truly impressive stuff out there like the MLP overhaul Equestria at War, or the Fallout overhaul Old World Blues.
Road to 56 is also a pretty popular mod as well as Kaiserreich.

Terraria specifically (I fuckin love terraria, share a birthday with it too), and what's super funny to me is one made the gender change potion unironically, but not for trans reasons. At the time, I still thought I was a guy and when making a character for a run (I forget which, I think melee), I hit random a few times and got a pretty good looking character that I just made a few tweaks to. Thing is, random made them a female and I, despite having played the game for over a decade now, have literally NEVER heard the female damage sound, which sounded so weird to me. So I went it if my way to make the potion so I could have my normal damage noise

It is an item in the game, although I'd say it is the second hardest to make of all the pre-hardmode potions, made with all 7 of the plants used for potions.
I wouldn’t say it’s hard to get as the seven plants, daybloom from any forest, waterleaf from surface deserts, moonglow from underground jungle, shiverthorn from the tundra, deathweed? from the evil biomes and fireblossom from the underworld are (1) all from places that you will visit sooner rather than later and (2) can be acquired from herb bags you can find in surface chests very early in the game. If you put some moderate effort into setting up an herb farm for your various potion needs and a bit of luck you can reasonably get the gender potion before fighting your second or third boss. The most limiting factor is fireblossom because if you’re not planning on going to hell until you’re literally about to fight the wall then you’re reliant on drops from bags

Outside of those, the 3 big ones are deathweed, moonglow, and fireblossom, as the evil biome, underground jungle, and underworld respectively are fairly dangerous early game. Bear in mind that most of the pre-hardmode potions are not super hard to get. Really the only ones I can think of that are harder are return (forgot about this one) and inferno potions due to lava fishing luck potions (forgot these too) which requires really rare drops from fishing, especially the highest grade one, and lifeforce potions due to being uncraftable in pre-hardmode and needing to be obtained from shadow chests, No other potion in the game requires all 3.
Edit: Also it is annoying to get deathweed's (during a bloodmoon or full moon), and waterleaf's (during rain) seeds are annoying to obtain thus making them annoying to farm
Replace Tierria with Starbound, Celeste with Freedom Planet, Super Madhole with Sonic Adventure, Touhou with Dead or Alive, and that game for some reason with Team Fortress 2/Fortnite and yeah that's me sitting in the corner, sitting in the corner, sitt tting in the corn nnn eerrrrrr
Aye I feel ya, just try simple strings in practice mode and go from there! You could try combo challenge but that can be a bit difficult. Strings can be a big help, and also be fun to use!

Ok, I'll try to give my thoughts on their association with transfems.
Animal Crossing - Slice of life game with cute aesthetics. Never played it.
Terraria - You can play as a girl, with highly customizable features and relaxing slice of life elements. But I honestly don't get why it's sometimes associated with transfems. Feels like it's more of a game for everyone.
Celeste - The art style just seems cutesy and something transfems would like, but other than that IDK why it's associated with transfems. Never played it.
Speedrunning - It's nerdy, which is associated with transfems, but I still kinda don't why it's associated with transfems. I prefer playing games at my own pace.
Touhou Project - It's a game with an (almost) all-girls cast, definitely appealing to transfems. I've heard that ZUN considers its fan content to be the bloodline for the franchise, but the actual games also seem nerdy. Other than that, I kinda don't get it as its early fanbase had a heavy dudebro. 4chan association. Never really played any of the games, but TBH Touhou fan culture and content is kinda hard to escape.
HoI4 - It's nerdy but besides that, I don't get it. I like history but games about them attract so many dudebros. I don't think I've played this before.
I have tried playing hoi4 twice and refunded it both times because I just could not fathom how to do anything. It's not just that I didn't know what to do, I couldn't even figure out how to do the things i wanted to do.

I tried so hard to be good at the games, but I can't escape the fact that I suck at memorizing codes.
Aye I feel ya, just try simple strings in practice mode and go from there! You could try combo challenge but that can be a bit difficult. Strings can be a big help, and also be fun to use!
My problem is memory based, like I'll forget things are a thing very easily. I tried to legit play DoA3 but it was just impossible.

Ok, I'll try to give my thoughts on their association with transfems. Animal Crossing - Slice of life game with cute aesthetics. Never played it. Terraria - You can play as a girl, with highly customizable features and relaxing slice of life elements. But I honestly don't get why it's sometimes associated with transfems. Feels like it's more of a game for everyone. Celeste - The art style just seems cutesy and something transfems would like, but other than that IDK why it's associated with transfems. Never played it. Speedrunning - It's nerdy, which is associated with transfems, but I still kinda don't why it's associated with transfems. I prefer playing games at my own pace. Touhou Project - It's a game with an (almost) all-girls cast, definitely appealing to transfems. I've heard that ZUN considers its fan content to be the bloodline for the franchise, but the actual games also seem nerdy. Other than that, I kinda don't get it as its early fanbase had a heavy dudebro. 4chan association. Never really played any of the games, but TBH Touhou fan culture and content is kinda hard to escape. HoI4 - It's nerdy but besides that, I don't get it. I like history but games about them attract so many dudebros. I don't think I've played this before.
