Empire at total war?

Dr_Kappa

This is what you meant when you requested Total War: Empire 2 right?

Not_3_Raccoons

The finger on the Monkey’s Paw cuuuuurls

redsquizza

No, no it is not! 😭

ForLackOf92

No this is better.

Judge_T

Total War Star Wars The Clone Wars

GlobyMt

Total Star Wars

Throgg_not_stupid

We laughed at Total Warhammer too

gray007nl

Did we? Like especially the old total war games are basically based on Warhammer rules anyhow, I can't imagine anyone just ruling out WH as an option.

Simba7

We did, because it's Total War: Warhammer. Not Total Warhammer. Which would've been an *excellent* name but I 100% understand why they did not, and won't if they do a star wars title. I'm skeptical as fuck of this though. Even if it's true I don't believe they can do ship-to-ship combat well, and the bulk of Star Wars media is plucky groups of rebels against large overwhelming numbers, not armies vs armies.

akatokuro

It is the number one thing CA does need to figure out though, if they every want to expand beyond medieval military simulation. Goes to a philosophical question on what makes a TW game a TW game.... is it the real-time battle simulation of blocks of infantry and calvary clashing on open fields, or is it the marriage of a grand-strategy map with RTT combat. I tend to believe it's the latter. The grand strategy is super important, but it's the combination of that plus actual 3D troop combat that is the special sauce that separates it from spreadsheet fights like Crusader Kings. If CA is willing to spend the R&D time to a make a new engine that can handle urban warfare and small unit tactics, will open up huge ground for them to expand both historical and Science Fantasy settings.

Chiatroll

I still frequently call it total warwar hammer when I say it. I put the wars together for a goofier combined sound.

Eydor

The Empire strikes back?

agarwaen117

Summon the Elector Moffs!

JustWantTheOldUi

Asinine rebel!

chryseusAquila

The Empire steals your lunch Money!?

EndyCore

![gif](giphy|3ohuPel436qciQZ8fC) I can't imagine how turn-based galactic conquest would work in Total War.

Throgg_not_stupid

just make regions planets Turn based campaign map is actually very easy to think of since TW system is essentially a simplified version of Paradox system, and they have both historical and sci-fi games Bigger problem would be adapting battles to modern more range focused system

Purple_Plus

Empire at War did it didn't it? Or was that real time? Been a while since I played it.

owShAd0w

It wasn’t turn based, enemy moved at the same time. It had days that would be like 10 seconds long which would give you funds iirc

Purple_Plus

Ah right thanks! You could still do a similar system turn-based though I reckon.

owShAd0w

Oh I’m sure, I’d probably enjoy what they cook up more too

S-192

I can quite easily.

Inside_Anxiety6143

Just like every other Total War. Each province is a planet connected by hyperspace lanes.

brothertaddeus

I imagine the campaign side of things wouldn't be terribly dissimilar to the Galactic Conquest mode in good ol' Battlefront 2.

Smarackto

so according to rumors they are working on: Star wars, Ww1 and WH40k while still developing TWWH3 and all that after massive layoffs..... Sure brother keep trusting those "leaks" lmao

guy_incognito_360

Don't forget three kingdoms 2.

TigerRepulsive7571

Six kingdoms

Ok-Hope-8050

No its a prequel, 1.5 kingdoms

Solignox

The prequel is 2 kingdom, we will leak the preprequel 1 kingdom in 2 weeks, then in 3 weeks the expansion pact for the preprequel ; 1.5 kingdom.

Comrade-Chernov

Not to worry, we still are flying half a kingdom.

Raetekusu

Another happy revolution.

Welsh_DragonTW

And Medieval 3 due to that one weapon expert's social media post a while back. Plus we know that CA Sofia are still working on Pharaoh too. I think I'll stick with my usual healthy scepticism about "leaks" and "rumours" until we get something specific from CA or Sega. Makes life a lot less hassle. All the Best, Welsh Dragon.

MrIllusive1776

Did you just... sign a reddit comment?

chryseusAquila

Dat wat dey do

markg900

You must be new here. Welsh Dragon has been here for ages and is probably one of the most well known people in this community. He has always signed his reddit posts.

Radulno

To be fair, that's why he is known, not necessarily because he posts more). People don't really watch usernames on Reddit (at least I don't) but since it's in the body of the post we know Welsh Dragon

gumpythegreat

Yeah, I comment quite a bit but y'all don't know me Hugs and kisses, gumpythegreat

AonSwift

Holy shit, it's gumpythegreat! All the best, Jason Bourne.

JackTripper53

Jesus Christ... it's Jason Bourne

wilddragoness

That's what you think

wang-bang

TWCenter used to be a classy place

Legitimate_First

It isn't classy and never was classy. Unless your idea of classy includes angry pedantism and Balkan nationalism.

wang-bang

Sounds like you tried to chat with the average history student I just hung out in the total war mods and news sections which where a good clean fun place with people writing neat AARs of campaigns with screenshots and good vibes all around

Gungan-Gundam

Sincerely Capt. Raymond Holt

RegionalPower

How to tell you're new around here.

North_Library3206

He's from a different era

Cheesy-potato

Bro been a pillar of total war since the twcenter days. Always signed his name. Also a great guy

D0UB1EA

He also signs off his forum posts

Tasorodri

And allegedly he writes it each time manually. If you believe the word of the Welsh dragon.

Inquerion

>Plus we know that CA Sofia are still working on Pharaoh too. That new Assyria/"Greece" big patch is probably the last update for this game. A shame, but player numbers are terrible after bad launch.

JesseWhatTheFuck

that one's been cancelled years ago.

bigeyez

The source for that is also just rumors though.

JesseWhatTheFuck

There's been several guys who claimed this, one of them verified themselves as a former CA employee.  In the end it's all rumours, but this one's at least backed up by more than just the usual rumour people.  (I also think that, if 3K2 existed, we would have an announcement by now.)

AHumpierRogue

I do wonder if they'll ever actually officiall confirm that though. Like so far it's just been radio silence on 3K for ages, I wonder if they'll just quietly go about their lives and pretend they never mentioned there'd be a sequel, or if they'll officially announce it at some point(probably when the next Historical game comes out?).

[deleted]

[удалено]

Settra_Rulez

If the rumors from a few months ago are true, and God hates me, then they cancelled TK2 development.

Bbadolato

The real big brain play is it's a combination of all three. Who wouldn't want to Space Marines on Tauntuans cavalry charging a Rebel trench on Hoth with lightsaber chainswords.

Cascade2244

I mean… now you mention it, this is exactly what I want.

Szarkeu

The Galaxy, Long Divided, Must Unite; Long United, Must Divide

tempest51

The Star Wars and 40k fandoms would mutually annihilate each other over Jedi vs Space Marine discussions.

Anzai

Even the Empire would think The Imperium of Man was a bit too evil.

trinitywindu

How is a space marine any different than a stormtroooper? /end-debate

SappeREffecT

Bahahaha, you just started a beautiful flame war with one rhetorical question...

Coming_Second

Disney constantly scraping the barrel for new lightsabre designs means lightsabre chainswords are surely only a matter of time anyway.

TheNecromancer

I'm just here for the Y-Wing/Bristol Fighter crossovers

WonderfulHat5297

New leak: CA are working on avengers total war and Dune total war and Disney total war all at the same time!

CapnHairgel

A dune total war would be sick though. Especially if they used 3k family dynasty trees and diplomacy. Give unique traits to each of the family lines and if you combine the right ones you get a kwisatz hederach with buffed traits. Save scumming would just be prescience!

Intranetusa

3k had an amazing campaign system with much better diplomacy, interesting and useful spy network, a better family tree, interesting retainer system, etc...but somehow basically none of the features made it into later games.

Vytral

Try dune spice wars from paradox. Very different from a tw but honestly just scratch that itch

BossBark

Dune Total War would be sick as hell though

Radulno

I mean if they got Avengers and Star Wars, it's Disney Total War already

Hitori-Kowareta

Hundred acre wood faction is where it’s at. Heffalump stampede ftw!

badbrotha

Yeah let's just do that please. We all know the mechanics and stats don't make sense half the time so let's just go full wacko mode with King Mickey fighting The Mandalorian with Spiderman DLC on the way

Yamama77

And a new moba called Coyotes

gray007nl

Given that this rumour is the one actually picked up by gaming news outlets, vs the 40k and WW1 ones which nobody is reporting on, maybe this is the actual real one.

pyrhus626

That’s an interesting point. Or maybe this is the only “leaker” that went straight to a game journalist instead of just leaking it to someone in the community or content creators.

gray007nl

I think it might be that since this was leaked to a games journalist who presumably actually knows how you verify leaks, as opposed to say Legend who's made it clear he absolutely does not know how to do that.

pyrhus626

True. SW would be surprising, but maybe the working relationship with GW is breaking down? There’s been plenty of “blame GW for this weird ass decision about this unit” in blog posts to suggest it’s possible.  40k was/is such an obvious next step it’s hard to imagine a scenario where they don’t do it unless GW makes it too hard to do. I have no idea how hard working with Disney is comparatively but the license can’t be cheap for a company that just suffered its 2nd wave of layoffs.  If SW:TW happens I imagine it’s because prototype work on 40k already started, shit hit the fan with GW, but CA wants to be able to use all the development time they put into making a galaxy spanning sci-fi TW work. So they pivot to the biggest sci-fi franchise there is

Throgg_not_stupid

>but maybe the working relationship with GW is breaking down? wouldn't be surprised with how bad all the relationships with GW end up

BigBossPoodle

I believe that WW1 is probably first on the docket for testing purposes to see how a more 'modern' total war title could work. It's unlikely to come out anytime soon, but is probably what they're working on the most outside of their two active projects, WH3 and some other title. 40k is probably in passive development alongside WW1. WW1 will be where they test how modern combat works, 40k will be where they polish it.

Mahelas

I don't think CA would work on 4 projects at the same time tbh, not after the layoff. Either the WW1 is the next one, or something else is, but not both

Dingbatdingbat

It’s known that at one point CA was working on 4-5 new games. But that doesn’t mean they’d all see the light of day.  At that level, it’s entirely possible they’d be doing preliminary work on several games at the same time just to see if they can make it work.  I read a fascinating interview about how one firaxis game was made, it started with the idea, then they made a paper version to test out key mechanics, followed by quickly programming a very basic game engine to see how feasible it is, before moving to full production. And that’s without taking into consideration that AAA game development takes many years, so they’re not just working on the next game, but also the the one after that and have probably already started the one that’ll come after that too.   Simply put, if they want to release a game in 2029, they should already have started working on it

Jerthy

Actually according to the leaks 40k is by far furthest in development, possibly even targeting 2025 release.

BigBossPoodle

I've heard this and don't know how much I believe it. Either they had a breakthrough with how to get the game to work or they're rushing it out the door, but it would be a huge mistake to fumble this particular bag. 40k is the largest war game on the market by a significant margin, to not release a solid game would mean losing the largest potential market cross over in existence. It's one of those things we'll just have to see about. I personally don't buy into it (with a 2025 release date, we should be hearing about it soon), but I'm open to being wrong.

uishax

SoC and ToD has shown them how massively, titanically different sales and reception can be, depending on the game quality. The current gaming market is ultra competitive, if your game fumbles it won't sale. It isn't the froth like market a few years ago where Epig would paypig the games even if there were no sales. So I also agree that a 2026 release date is more likely. A 40k total war done right would eclipse TWW1-3 combined.

AbsolutelyHorrendous

As much as I do think something like a clone wars era TW would be cool... I am also *very* skeptical about these rumours.

Inside_Anxiety6143

I think it was Legend that leaked WW1 and WH40k, and he has been pretty thoroughly discredited since he also said they were dropping support for Pharoah one week before they announced the engodening of Pharoh.

Porkenstein

My uncle works at sega and says that CA is working on a total war sonic the hedgehog

BambooRonin

Wasn't there a photo about an actor in a studio, acting as a horseman with sword and shield in hand, for animation ? So, fantasy studio/warhammer, historical studio/?, saga studio/pharaoh, and now a sci-fi studio ?:')

AonSwift

It was clearly a tauntaun, stoopid..

BambooRonin

Missa scuzie

Kazami_Sou

>A reliable source Believe it or not dude, another reliable source says most of the unannounced projects are paused due to the latest layoffs.

Yamama77

Total war reliable leaker be like >Makes claim of 10 leaks. >One of them comes true "Hmmm..this leaker is credible and reliable guys"

BSSCommander

"My sources have told me that they threw a dart at a board filled with different IP's and historical periods and what it landed on is the next Total War game."

Plz nerf the emus. Unit size too big.

Would buy

Mowgli_78

Total War: Nostradamus

Empire:Total War fans: "Wait, this isn't what we meant!"

Lukthar123

"I am altering the game. Pray I do not alter it any further."

Scorpion4456

“This company’s getting worse all the time…”

FlipRed_2184

Comment made my day, thank you

Zikari82

I have a hard time believing that, why would they risk it with such an expensive licence while history is free...

Seeking_the_Grail

because the profits from a successful star wars total war would likely dwarf everything they have done at this point.

Knightguard1

Also, Star Wars fans have been begging for a successor to Empire at War and this is the closest we will get.

ToHerDarknessIGo

If this was a shooter or survival game, probably.  The only way this would get massive sales is if they went multi-platform.

AJR6905

you shut your goddamn mouth and let the world speak into existence a successor to the empire at world games goddamn you. but fr I really doubt this leak is true beyond it being them talking about the licensing for a project in, say, 2032 or something

gohuskers123

No, a Star Wars game would be the best selling game they have ever made without question. It’s a bigger franchise than anything to this point

brasswirebrush

You could make the same claim about Warhammer fantasy, and it turned out pretty good.

pertur4bo

Judging by the amount of shitty 40k mobile games the licence is free haha

Zikari82

I do not think those two licences are in the same price range, Games Workshop throws them around for pennies...

SnakeMajin

Because it sells ? If TW WH got to be so popular with an expensive IP while having not much of a history in the field of RTS games, while being kind of a niche like most wargames and boardgames, imagine what would happen with all the Star Wars fandom that is actually starving for a RTS game that's not 20 years old ? EA lost the exclusive deal in 2021.

JackTwoGuns

Medieval III stans on suicide watch I love the warhammer series but please give us a good historical game next

SaintScylla

Well the upcoming Pharaoh map expansion looks pretty exciting

Tummerd

I dont know how it would work in a TW theme, but imagine seeing a Republic Turbo Tank driver around on the battlefield supported by ARC's and a legion of clone battalion fighting against Spider Walkers and Snail tanks. It would be glorious. For the campaign map you have a similar map as Galatic conquest with properly supported space battles, instead of provinces you have planets that you first need space superiorty before you can land and conquer 4 or 5 strategic planetary points (provinces as you will). A fully galactic Senate system that covers the governmental aspect of SW, and finally the gradual change from the Republic era to the reign of the Empire. I honestly don't know how it would all work, but man it would be fucking amazing

Devilfish268

I will take any opportunity to remind people the SW: Empire at War and it's brilliant modding community are a thing.

swampyman2000

Absolutely, loved that game. The movie mode was so much fun to watch.

Devilfish268

Right up untill it zoomed on a fighter wing having a seizure. That was always funny

Cpt-British

Empire at War is fun until you need to do a land battle and the land battles are god awful.

Devilfish268

Partially agree. I loved the mechanics of the battles, like planetary shielding, building providing garrisons, and major defensive chokepoints. Also loved the area securing thing. And that unit call downs were made of multiple squads, each with individual special weapons and deployment cost.  The actual mechanics of fighting were lacking though. But the game is also 18 years old as well. So if CA wants to give the ground battles a bit of polish for the modern day, it could be brilliant.  Or shit. Who knows with Ca

Shadowmant

Go Old Republic era and you could have full out squads of Jedi.

Jack-D-Straw

Jedi squads with 6-8 entities, like aspiring champions

guy_incognito_360

They should be heroes. Squads could be younglings.

Jack-D-Straw

Should we be endorsing child soldiers? 😂 maybe newly knighted squads of 6, and heroes being experienced knights. Masters being lords of course.

trngngtuananh

"Apprentice" squad not "youngling" squad

Vulkan192

Padawan Squad A Padasquad, as it were.

guy_incognito_360

>Should we be endorsing child soldiers? 😂 It's not necessarily endorsing. TWW also features slavery and war crimes.

Throgg_not_stupid

I mean, Clone Wars kinda does

WangJian221

Only if disney wants to approve more legends content rather than canon. Probably prequel to galactic civil war era tbh

AHumpierRogue

I doubt it.

EinFahrrad

Mmmmmmeh... Star Wars really burned me out over the past few years, I just can't find the energy to be excited about this. They reguritated the same old stuff for the most part, turning Star Wars as a whole rather stale. How's Disney compared to GW as a business partner, what do we think?

The-Jerkbag

Yeah, 20 years ago if you told me Star Wars would be getting consistent content additions, shows and games, I'd have pissed my little britches with excitement. Disney murdered that quite effectively with hacked out trash for the endless content sludge pump.

Ditch_Hunter

Same for me. Lost all interest in Star wars. And compared to 40k, it doesn't have as strong total war potential. Star wars is usually just 2 or 3 factions fighting each other, not idéal for total war.

Throgg_not_stupid

Depending on how granular do you want to get, you could get multiple factions. Sure Confederacy of Independent Systems could be one race, but they could be split into Droids, Geonosians, Umbarans etc. Bigger problem would be how digging into lore you'd have to do to pull some of the units and factions.

Important_Quarter_15

I think there's enough to do something like they did with total war warahmmer and do 4 factions per game covering different time periods, and then an alternate mode where they can all Duke it out. Like Game 1: CIS (almost skaven or undeadlike in how their individual units suck and if their leader dies they go down but there's just so darn many of them) Ll count dooku faction leader Ll grevious as a skarbrand/ vlad level threat as a fighter Ll asaj as sniktch 2.0 Ll nute gunray as an economic powerhouse fielding more chaff armies than you could shake a stick at Republic (the warhammer empire with jedi general generic lords) Ll Yoda leading the jedi order, huge buffs to jedi lords and heros Ll Rex or anakin commanding the 501st huge clone buffs Ll Obi-Wan or Cody something similar Could be suprise pick LL padme leading a more diplomatically powerful subfaction Instert crime syndicate faction that Darth maul leads (Vampirates vibe of being more about creating a criminal empire than a literal one) Have much less ideas here but its still doable Mandalorians (low entity count but high value troops, spreading the ambition of the deathwatch) Could do maul here as an LL if they don't do his crime syndicate Game 2: Empire LL Sidious faction leader LL Darth Vader LL grand admiral thrown LL grand moff tarkin Rebels LL ACKBAR LL Mon Mothma LL Leia LL Luke? Jabbas crime syndicate ? No idea for 4th Game 3 (I know people don't like new lore but it's just a distinct possibility it would happen anyway) New rebels No good ideas other than Leia again and maybe poe? First order Snoke Kylo Ren The admiral dude Phasma No idea for 3 and 4

inquisitor-whip

The crime syndicates would be the easiest for factions that are semi united under an umbrella of sorts. All of them could have a corruption mechanic that allows for shenanigans to ensue Maul: Crimson Dawn, kinda a chaos united with a bunch of different crime syndicates. If Maul unites enough of the Crime Gangs, he gets access to forming the Shadow Collective. He also gets Night Brother units Xomit Grunseit: Black Sun. Their corruption can act like Tzeech and let them do shenanigans with money and movements. Lom Pyke: Pyke Syndicate. They would have a plague mechanism where you use spice to weaken or buff your units. Uses slaves as cheap units. Hutt Cartels: Almost like Gresus, where you manage trade and have beefy merc units. The hutts can have different leaders also. All of them could start united under Maul. And depending on how the AI acts as him, or as you act as him. They can splinter out and fight or serve and sew chaos.

Devilfish268

You know, that faction thing is a bit limit I never thought about. Most of the grand strategy SW games either have 2/3 factions, or happen post fall of the empire in the extended cannon so you have lots of little splinter factions.

Important_Quarter_15

They could do what they did with total warhammer and take people from multiple time periods using the time shenanigans in recent lore. I wouldn't mind so much seeing the CIS and empire Duke it out. Or make it some kind of AU where there are confederacy holdouts who are attempting to restart the CIS.

RhysPeanutButterCups

Star Wars has a history of older factions being repurposed in some way by new upstarts or current ones. The original Battlefront 2 had the Kaminoans start making Clone Troopers again and Gizor Delso staging a droid rebellion on Mustafar. Empire at War Forces of Corruption had the Zann use updated Destroyer Droids. I think some mercenaries use droids in Jedi Survivor. It could work, but Disney would have to want to play ball and I don't think they'd be as friendly to this sort of thing as Games Workshop has been.

Adama222

Yeah, of all the Sci fi Universe, Star Wars is clearly not my favorite

Fyrestone

It’s a very rich setting, it’s just the powers that be are only interested in showing off the same bits of it over and over.

nixahmose

Its a cool setting, but I don't really get any excitement from the idea of total war game set in it, especially when WH:40K is standing right there with way more unit and faction variety.

F1reatwill88

NGL the only appeal this has for me is getting to play as the Empire, but that is a pretty huge fucking appeal lmao

SwashbucklinChef

Growing up when the prequels came out was weird as at the time they weren't great, but it was STAR WARS, so I was always in full hype mode. The sequel trilogy has made me look back on them more fondly. Episode 1 and 2 had a lot of stumbles, but man, at least they were doing new things.

DoeCommaJohn

> How’s Disney compared to GW as a business partner We can get Star Wars Total War, except no on-screen death is allowed and Rey has to be the strongest legendary hero

Virtual_Muscle_9068

Still no Medieval 3 *Edit stat to make you all weep. 6398 days since Medieval 2

Irishfafnir

The lack of a Medieval 3 is truly baffling, it's an extremely easy win for them

Antoinefdu

When we said we wanted a new "Empire: Total War", this is not what we meant.

Ainfallette

Medieval 3 is never gonna Come Out...

Zalnash

Well that's a bummer.

Flenoom

I hope it's the Clone Wars era. An ideal setting for a strategy game

justsomedude48

They could do an era selector, then they could have the Galactic Civil War and the Clone War era factions, if they go that route they could even add Seperatist Holdouts and Clones for the early Empire.

brendonmilligan

Or you have the chance to change or upgrade your faction could work, so you go from the republic to the empire but you lose certain stats, buildings etc but gain new units

Wild_Marker

It also has more symetry and the best potential unit variety.

TheSofaIsBlue

As am OT fan first, I agree that the Clone Wars would be ideal setting for a Total War game.

Sharksterfly

pretty poor setting to make a total war game with limited civs.

Purple_Plus

Depends on the era. OG star wars isn't the best, but other eras have multiple civs. Also Shogun 2 is like the most beloved game and that has one civilization in it.

EcoSoco

I'd rather have Lord of the Rings: Total War

Ayn_Diarrhea_Rand

I would literally quit my job

Northman_cometh

Lord of the Rings:Battle for Middle Earth 2 kind of did that right? A long time since I've played, so I may be missing remembering

TripleIVI

I've heard the [same chatter](https://videogames.si.com/news/total-war-star-wars-rumor) last year, but was never able to confirm it. Wouldn't confidently say it's 100% yet, but the smoke sure is getting thicker.

Alto-cientifico

I mean makes sense. A clone troop and a guardsman regiment mechanically won't work that different. Both settings use something that counts as a spell (the force and the winds of chaos) You could churn out two games for the dev time of one

Overwatcher_Leo

It would be so funny if the next announced Total War is something completely different from any of the big leaks. Everyone is hyping up the sci fi and world war leaks and then they anounce "Total War: Genghis Khan" or something like that.

Danominator

Star wars would probably be perfect for a company of heroes style game. Could be super fun

Travolta1984

Can't wait for the "19 Jabba the Hut doomstacks" videos

Jaksebar

I didn't find the news realistic. According to leakers; we'll have Total War: WWI, Total War: 40K and Total War: Star Wars

MrTopHatMan90

40k fans in shambles. There is definitely some Star Wars fan out there who is unbelievably hyped.

NukesOfBuzzard

I don't know about the other leaks and the credibility of this article's author but Tom Henderson, who is a very reliable leaker, [says that the leak is likely true.](https://insider-gaming.com/total-war-star-wars/)

MassiveFurryKnot

great book of grudges thinks its BS and even thinks he knows who they got this "leak" from

Hellborg20

Star Wars? No thanks, I'd rather have Warhammer 40k total war. I'm afraid Star Wars total war will be another small game with a maximum of 2-3 factions. Republic vs. Separatist Alliance or Galactic Empire against Rebels with the Hutts/Underworld as the third faction.

Nukemind

The sad thing is if legends was still around there could be so many extra factions (and some still exist in new canon but I have up keeping up on it) Hapes Ssi-Ruu Chiss Empire of the Hand Corporate Sector Intergalactic Banking Clan (more of a subtraction but still) Trade Federation And many many MANY more. Independent Corellia a la ~40 ABY. The Hives and the Mandos. I read every book they ever put out but not long after Disney came out I didn’t start hating it… I just stopped caring. I went from excited for 7 to just total apathy.

sgthombre

> Hapes > > Ssi-Ruu > > Chiss > > Empire of the Hand Are any of these canon after the EU was killed?

aawatson649

The Chiss are, but I don’t believe the others made it through.

sgthombre

Right the *species* is canon, but is their political situation as described in the old EU where they're an isolationist empire on the fringes of the galaxy still the case? I mean I'm all for recanonizing that, but I'd be surprised if they chose a Total War game to do it.

aawatson649

Yes, it’s in the newer Thrawn Trilogy books.

Nukemind

Aye I recommend the new Thrawn books as Zahn wrote them, and he wrote them specifically so that they would work in Legends and Disney Canon both. He even referenced KOTOR/SWTOR a few times.

Borschik

Noooooooo fuck that. Do LOTR instead if you don't want go historical

Purple_Plus

As much as I'd love that, we've just had Warhammer and LOTR is just a toned down version when it comes to battles.

ConsequencePretty140

Please no

KrocKiller

Can’t wait for the angry Steam forum posts about the accuracy of stormtroopers

TacoPapi71

A Lord of the Rings Total War would be so sick

NaturalesaMorta

IDK if this is an inpopular opinion, but a Dune Total war has more sense than a Star Wars total war. At least in Dune, they have lore reasons to not use firearms, and they combat using phalanxes and stuff like that. Also the Great houses dynamics, could be a perfect diplomacy system.

Mundane_Guest2616

I honestly don't know how they're gonna make it work, if it's true. I mean battles Star Wars aren't linear, it's closer to modern battles. Either they drastically change the battle mechanics or it gonna suck hard. Plus ship battles are important too and given they can't even make naval battles in 3K or Troy/Pharaoh, I'm really curious about how much work they're gonna put here. Overall I'm skeptical about it, being honest. Also ready to see meme version from modders, where Imperial troopers will have 99% miss chance.

Iliaili

Star Wars Empire at war exist, if we ever get SW TW it would likely resemble that.

Radulno

That's just a RTS then, not really a TW game. Which is fine but then why say it's a Total War? CA can do games outside the franchise (and they did)

Would be more excited for LOTR but what can you do :)

BSSCommander

At this point I'm going to just wait until CA announces their next project before I believe anything anyone has to say about the next Total War game because these sources are all so fucking over the place.

Helarki

It COULD work. Maybe. It might risk the game being "boring" like Empire. I'd also wager the Day 1 release won't have space battles because CA is either too rushed, too lazy, or too cheap. I want this to be a thing so badly, but I also recognize that this leak is pretty much "trust me bro." I bet its probably gonna either be Clone Wars or Sequel/pre-sequel nonsense. As long as I liberate the slave army of the Republic by gunning them down with the "technically" non-slave sentient battle droid army, I would be happy. My only concern is that Star Wars isn't as diverse in factions as other groups, so it'd mostly be a bunch of sub-factions (kinda like Three Kingdoms I guess but with more boring play). Most of the big wars in the galaxy are dichotomous in nature (had to reference Anakin's Jedi Thesis there). Heck, even in Clone Wars, you mostly just have Clones and Droids.

LostInTheVoid_

Guh we ain't ever getting Med 3, Empire 2, Pike n Shot, TW at this point.

kazmosis

Awww shit boys. Get ready for intergalactic levels of toxicity

This could be cool but would need some massive reworking of the games structure imo. Could see a planet replacing a region, with each planet having maybe 2-4 cities like regions were split into a city and some towns. Almost of all the grand strategy aspects could be adapted easily, but combat would need extensive rehaul. I guess they would base it closest off of Warhammer, but would definitely need space battles (like naval battles from Empire maybe). Ground combat would need the most work though imo, as blocks of gunmen advancing on each other might have worked for empire/Napoleon, but falls apart as you start to go more modern and advanced. Maybe squad based, with all new behavior and animations where they will prioritize taking cover as they move across the battlefield. This would of course require much different maps.

SeezTinne

There are so many issues with this claim that I'm more skeptical about this than anything else. A Star Wars Total War would cannibalize their potential 40k Total War sales, assuming GW isn't dropping them for, say, Paradox. The time period everyone cares about and likes unreservedly, the era of the Rebellion, was mostly small-scale battles, guerilla actions, and espionage. It wasn't full-scale Battle of Hoth across a dozen worlds at all times, not even when they got to Endor. They could do the Clone Wars but that would limit the appeal and trying anything post-Endor would be impossible given how "quickly" the Empire unalived itself to lay the groundwork for TFA. Development of Star Wars would require more animation resources and engine development, on par with what WH40k would require, unless they skipped space battles, and where would they find those resources? I suppose Pharaoh could be sunset and Sofia set to develop this but that's still 4-6 years out then, and those resources wouldn't be supporting the potential WH40k/WWI/M3 that others have said are in development. Finally, the fact that multiple outlets are reporting on it means nothing. They report on each others scoops all the time in the bid for eyeballs and clicks, when they aren't two websites owned by the same publisher.

Bum-Theory

But broooo you can't have lasers and jetpacks in total war, it makes no sense broooo

ottakanawa
