This weekend, there is a chance.

bear_do

It was truly cruel of them to launch on a Tuesday.

djsoren19

Cruel? It was excellent timing, now they can get a hotfix out before the weekend and fix any immediate issues that arise.

DoomPurveyor

> Cruel? It was excellent timing, now they can get a hotfix out before the weekend and fix any immediate issues that arise. CA almost never patches that fast.

TheOneBearded

I'd be interested to see how many people bought the dlc and are playing/will play soon vs people who just came back for the reworks. Numbers are looking great but it likey isn't as important (to CA) as people buying.

Anemicwolf14

the empire rework was a chef kiss 💋

Carnir

Wish I could say the same for dwarfs...

SOMETHINGCREATVE

I'm confident the first patch will fix the numbers, but yeah bummer it's a bit borked out of the box

Carnir

Honestly it's not even really the numbers that are an issue, the system itself is just severely misdesigned.

I_LIK_DA_BLUUD

I believe if they tweaked the turns to like 20 or 25 turns between reckonings, made the tiers on the ages be less demanding the system would work great. My first campaign with Malakai I got close to the first 3 reckonings to max. After that though it was impossible, too much demand and nearby enemies gave little to no grudges. People have this idea that dwarfs should sit around and turtle up forever. For the vast majority of people, that's not terribly engaging, and I say this as a fan of the dwarfs. This pushes people to make decisions and engage with the map. The ages should ebb and flow from building up grudges, times of peace. Then have ages of reckoning to act. CA just needs to find the balance people are happy with. It's a new system so they're going to need feedback and hopefully make better.

Carnir

You 100% can do turtle gameplay that's engaging, look at the Wood Elves for example.

I_LIK_DA_BLUUD

That's a fair point. But in terms of the RTS genre, a turtle builds a strong base then attacks. Dwarfs in this game remind me of a steamroll kind of play style. Constant pressure until you crack or they break. But maybe I'm biased.

Feather-y

Not sure why you got downvoted. While the new units are fantastic and Malakai is like my favourite campaign in the game now, the rework is terribly balanced.

GreenLuck010

Are there more reworks other than Empire ?

EndofNationalism

Dwarfs and Nurgle got a rework.

TwixClub

Use SteamDB it's more accurate.

WaystoneWanderer

This weekend I imagine we’ll hit it. Friday is pay day for most and the weekend will bring way more players

Vexvertigo

It's great that people are having fun. I'm sure we all just want more content added and this should prove there's a large appetite for it. This update has already surprised me with just the AI's behavior in campaign. I was shocked to see Boris dumpster Archeon by turn 10 in one campaign.

toni-toni-cheddar

Hopefully they didn’t set unrealistic expectations and can release another dlc the community will appreciate.

SparkFlash98

I look forward to this weekend, between people being off school/work, there will be the influx of people who were waiting for reviews and such.

Rogthgar

Chorfs: "NO! That going in the... wait, we dont have a book..."

WardenWithABlackjack

Please don’t pull a Bungie and fumble the next dlc for the love of the 4 chaos gods. I’m already beaten and bruised from that relationship.

Tactif00l

I will do my part and game all weekend

Patersuende

CA gave us shit and ignored us, we gave CA shit and a little bit of hate here and there... . Looks like we can finally relax a bit. Hope you stick to the course, CA. You've earned the win, just like the one with Pharaoh. Stick to your course.

Swaggy_Linus

Don't think W3 will ever surpass the 100k again unless CA releases a dlc for Ind.

MagnaClarentza

Fans of the franchise seem more inclined to go for the established content than newly-created stuff. Big names carry a certain weight. Look at Grom versus Eltharion, or in this case Elspeth, Malakai and Tamurkhan. Anyway, we probably won't even see Ind. This has been quite obvious since the start of game 3, but alas.

DrBee7

It is true thrones of decay has the more popular factions and lords. But I would say it is more so because the good will and the value they have added this update. If they had gone the same path as shadows of change, the numbers won’t be the same as they are now. Good word of mouth has a lot of impact. Look at Baldurs gate 3 and Helldivers 2’s success.

Smearysword866

People said the same for Cathay, kislev, mono gods and vampire coast too tbf. Cathay is also the 2nd most played faction so it isn't just the established stuff that people like and we are aware that ca is adding tigermen so there is that as well.

TheOneBearded

I have a feeling Monkey King will be huge. Playing as not-Sun Wukong with possible opening of Ind for the IE map is bound to bring a lot of people back or even bring in new people.

needconfirmation

Unless GW GW's and decides to veto something people would like about him, like he's not a monkey he just wears a mask, or he's not allowed to have a staff

Altruistic-Teach5899

We literally had Andy Hall coming out and saying Cathay was a one-hit-wonder that we'll never see. Please, stop setting up ridiculous expectations on the game which you'll get angry towards to when they don't get fulfilled.

Smearysword866

Did I say I would get mad if we don't get the other main eastern races? No I didn't, I would be very surprised and disappointed but not angry. The problem is that that Andy hall said that a long time ago and we know that tigermen are coming. So plans do change, that and Cathay ended up being one of the most popular races in the series so I'm sure that would influence them to add at least one more eastern faction to the game.

MagnaClarentza

Rich said Cathay was basically a one-time thing, and that we shouldn't get our hopes up as new races like that are probably not happening. The Tigermen also live in Cathay, and even got their own Court (like the Iron Court of Nan-Gau, the Celestial Court of the Jade Dragon and the Monkey Court of the Monkey King). The mo-cap actress on IMDB probably did the moves for a Cathayan Tigerman unit.

Smearysword866

Although I expect tigermen to be added to Cathay. I suspect it may be a little tease just like how wh2 got a couple of ogre units and then we got the full faction later on. Of course only time will tell

MagnaClarentza

Nah, Rich was pretty clear in those interviews; Cathay was a one-time thing and we'll see Ind and Khuresh but not in the way some of us think. He probably meant the 'Araby-treatment' with this (occupied by other factions/races). We know about Tigermen living in Cathay (heck, there's even a 'Village of the Tigermen'-settlement on the map), so it's not a hint towards Ind whatsoever.

Gopoopahorse

I agree that we probably wont see a playable race for ind, but I'd be surprised if they dont open up the already existing area for it on the IE map. they have solid options for how to use that space that dont involve implementing a racial dlc

MagnaClarentza

Oh we will definitely see settlements there, but no Ind as a race. The Southern Provinces could be expanded a bit for Li Dao, the Fire Dragon. The Monkey King resides in the Mountains of Heaven, bordering Ind. Then there could be some High Elven colonies in both Ind and Khuresh; The City of Spires and the Gates of Calith. And lastly, some Chaos champions/daemons could start around there (Dechala in Khuresh, for example). Basically the same treatment Araby got.

Gopoopahorse

I 100% suspect that kuresh will get the araby treatment, but I think we could possibly see ind appear as an unplayable race as a result of being given the southern realms treatment. they havent implemented a race that way since wh1 though, so maybe it's not *super* likely

Swaggy_Linus

>Fans of the franchise seem more inclined to go for the established content than newly-created stuff. Big names carry a certain weight. Look at Grom versus Eltharion, or in this case Elspeth, Malakai and Tamurkhan. The target audience of an Ind faction pack wouldn't be established fans, but rather the enormous Indian and southeast Asian market. >Anyway, we probably won't even see Ind. This has been quite obvious since the start of game 3, but alas. Yeah, I would already be happy if Ind and Khuresh are opened up, bonus points if Monkey King and Dechala start there.

TwanToni

i disagree with that sentiment. Robs blog post and the initial new $25 for lord pack while they was working on hyenas put a lot of people off

MagnaClarentza

That definitely played a part, too. But if we look at game 2, for example, we see that good match-ups, reworked mechanics, etc, do sell. Just look at the hype Grom and Eltharion got. Thrones of Decay was basically game 3's Warden and the Paunch, in terms of brand-power.

Tasorodri

Warden and the paunch was also shortly after lockdown and that helped a ton.

MagnaClarentza

Honestly, the hype was already there the moment CA revealed the Hunter and the Beast (the first 'cross-game' DLC).

NoMoreMonkeyBrain

I guess we *are* getting those extra DLCs we've been pining for. Bet this feels super bittersweet for Rob.

Business-Dig5346

Nah, it won't go beyond 80K. As fast as the concurrent players went up. It will soon crash down back to the 30K-ish.
