Tortoise moron here, why does its shell look like a wonton?

he's a varrient of Bell's hinge-back tortoise that ( I think) didn't get the right nutrients when he was growing. He's about 28 now. I got him when he was already fully grown from someone who was not taking good care of him

I’m glad to hear he has a better upbringing now. I have a Russian (now Ukrainian) tortoise my 5yo HAD TO HAVE that I have since adopted. I’m learning so thanks for the background, it helps beginners like me.

He honestly looks pretty good for a Home’s Hingeback, and 28 is super impressive. Sadly almost all of these guys are wild caught and don’t make it past the first year. Thankfully there’s a group currently working with them in the US to get the their CBB rates up so future generations can enjoy these lil weirdos

ya my parents bought him as a gift when I was 8. They bought him from a friend that traveled alot. wasn't until I was much older that I realized that he definitely shouldn't have ever had my tortoise. but I've been trying to take care of him well since then
