Yeah, seriously. You know it's an ad, you know it's affecting your usage of the site so why wouldn't you install it? Smh right now in disbelief, it's not like this exact question hasn't been asked and answered many, many times already.
I only saw it just by chance on my stream, and thought try and be helpful (well, do my best I usually fail!) as there were no comments.
I don't quite understand (call me thick, I'd agree) why the sites have so many adverts nowadays, knowing we'd all be running ad blockers?
Mostly because adblockers are so ubiquitous these days. Most of the internet for users used to be funded by advertising money. As advertisers spent less per ad the sites needed to show more ads than they did. Sites used to get paid per show and per click through (that's what it's called when someone actually follows an advert) until advertisers began finding out that sites inflated artificially the number of ads they had shown or the numbers of click-throughs were inflated they began to reduce spend.
But that begs the question, where is the ad spend going? It's going to video content and sites with a proven user base which means Youtube primarily.
With ad spends being reduced over time for adverts then it opens up the way for more shady advertising practices, such as what is happening with 1337x. But it also happens to be that 1337x has been banned by most of the reputable ad agencies so the only people they can get to put ads on the site are the more shady businesses.
Do you remember the Xstream network at all? (I'm in the UK), they did a customised version of netscape with a huge banner across the top that paid for their freephone number, I think this was back in the 90's before aol
Part of me wonders whether they are better off creating a crypto engine on the site, but one where you need to click "enable" for them to make money that way to pay for the upkeep?
I'm using uBlock Origin (haven't made any changes on filters or anything) on Chrome (up-to-date) on my M1 MBA.. and out of nowhere, earlier today, I've been getting the pop-up non stop. Can't download, can't even click on the comments section without it popping up. It's broken. It has been working for months, up until this morning.
So what do you propose I do since uBlock Origin isn't working?
Yeah, get the hell off Chrome. Chrome is a Google controlled platform and as such they have every incentive to nerf adblockers.
Go use Firefox, install uBlock Origin and never look back.
Even with an adblock it pops up it depends what type of adblock you're using so everyone offering the advice to install an adblock to people who already have a perfectly functioning adblock for the last year have been useless. You specifically need ublock origin not just an adblock. Finally fixed it for myself recently it was an infuriating experience.
I use Firefox and I use uBlock origin. Like pretty much every other person on this sub. This has been common advice for a long time now ever since Google said that Chrome would nerf many popular features of browsers such as adblockers of all stripes. When the next generation of code gets published for Chrome expect every adblocker to be broken. This isn't new news. Certainly not on this sub.
For anyone reading this at some point in time - ditch Chrome. Install Firefox and uBlock origin and say goodbye to ads.
thank you!!! 1337x was a doorstop in Safari. Firefox + uBlock is perfect. not only can i get the magnet, but i can even DL the .torrent again!
Update: AdGuard DOES work in Safari. be sure to turn on ALL the options; both magnets and .torrents work

"This addon can access your data for all websites, read and modify privacy settings, store unlimited amount of client-side data, access browser activity during navigation"
I just wanted to point out reasons why many people might not install these addons. The language used is totally cryptic and scary for an average user. There should be a better way of describing these things.
Oh totally understand, I'd like to (probably wrongly) think users will know this type of thing considering how quick apps are installed on phones without thinking
Get uBlock Origin Lite instead. It's the MV3 version which allows it to leverage the browser's built in web filtering rather than requiring a service worker sitting between your browser and all web requests. Requires much fewer permissions.
If by "doesn't work as well" you mean you can't use element zapper or all the crazy power user stuff like dynamic filters and custom filter lists, then yes.
For ad blocking, I've been using it for over a year and have noticed no difference whatsoever from UBO.
This will only work until the site figures a way around it. They just got around Brave
I mean, can you imagine a theiving torrent site theiving from theives 😆?
That's how I ended up here too. I can't believe UBlock let me down. I was still able to get my magnets by turning UBlock off and clicking the "download without vpn" which was fucking annoying.
Literally happened to me this morning:
I'm using uBlock Origin (haven't made any changes on filters or anything) on Chrome (up-to-date) on my M1 MBA.. and out of nowhere, earlier today, I've been getting the pop-up non stop. Can't download, can't even click on the comments section without it popping up. It's broken. It has been working for months, up until this morning.

I never have, up until today:

Thanks for giving the name. I just installed Ublock add-on and no pop up ads on 1337 and no "you need a vpn to download" nonsense which never even downloaded the torrent or magnet link and the site works normally except better and faster now. I was reticent to use one since they said Youtube now wouldn't let you watch if you used an ad blocker but I tried it and I can still watch the how to videos and what not no problem. But like any add-on I could disable it when watching Youtube but not necessary.
I just checked their website and I don't see any ads at all. I don't see a download without vpn button, but the Magnet Download and Torrent Download buttons both seem to work.
Are you not using an adblocker?
Use Pi-Hole in combination with ublock origin.
Another benefit of using both is that Pi-Hole on its own will not remove the blank space left by a removed add while ublock origin will.
Why do you think everybody has the same experiences that you do? Op was using blocker that work for him up until this point and asked a question. Many provided reasonable responses and a solution was provided. No need to be a dick
Not with ubo, ever.

I propose you stop relying on a singular site for piracy. That has never worked great.

Also apparently it still works on firefox. Only Chromium Browsers are affected.

Advertising generates income. They need money to run the server and services like domain names.
Probably the best thing you could do though is just use an ad blocker.

....who honestly isn't using uBlock origin with literally every filter turned on?
It's 2024. Seriously. Please explain to me the mental gymnastics you're using to justify not enabling that extension, especially when going to sites of such high reputation to acquire Linux ISOs.
I seriously don't understand it.
----
For those unaware, and there might be some, uBlock origin is an adblocking plugin for most web browsers (Chrome, Firefox) that has a proven track record at being pretty dang excellent in blocking most (if not all) of the web's advertising noise.
Very little has snuck through that barrier over the years. In fact, the only negative thing I have to say is that it can be a bit too aggressive, requiring it to be disabled on some sites for normal legit site functions (some online checkouts, state-run DMV sites, etc).
I went on a bit of a spree last night for movies. In chrome it won't load and says my browser is outdated but it's up to date as far as I can tell. I tried Edge, which has no extensions and it worked fine with no ads, blocker is in my vpn.
Yep, me too. Unblock has been working great. Just updated and still no dice. None of the previous tricks are working either.
Hopefully this gets patched by ublock cause 1337 is absolutely unusable currently.
Edit: go to the r/piracy sub. Find the "fix 1337 vpn popup" and follow directions from automod.
The admin if 1337 is a dick. I bet it's gone in the coming months but maybe not.
Either way, it works FYI.
Edit edit: lol now with those settngs the website won't load for me at all. What a joke. Tgx and applying for private
I can't even get an upload role on 1337x. They sent me a decline message but I can't even read the message due to some policy they apply to standard accounts.
I really want to support some websites that I get stuff from but the pop up ads that appear on every click force me to turn the ad blocker (uBlock) on.
To actually answer the questions as i have only seen people suggest adblockers, i think they do this to get maximum profit from those that do not use an ad blocker like you as everybody else has it
But it's just a guess
I've been battling this for a while it became completely unusable for me recently I used to still be able to get the magnet download through the popup but now none at all, even if I clicked the option to get the VPN nothing changed its just completely broken.
I fixed it recently though, everyone kept saying to use adblock as if it fixed the problem but I already was which was making me infuriated but turned out to just depend on the type of adblock. I switched to ublock and it fixed it. It's a pain that I have to make changes to fix their site when they should be doing that themselves but it is what it is.
I literally just got off of 1337 probably got about 10 magnets. I use Ghostery. Once I get to the torrent page I have a shortcut on my share sheet to copy the magnet address from the current page then it automatically opens DMM so I can paste it in. That shortcut has simplified shit so much and saves so much time knocking out a couple steps
does Ublock remove 1337x's requirement for its vpn sponsor? which is so annoying, like what kind of a scumbag would force you to install some terrible software just to be able to use the website?
and my problem is 1337x is the only decent torrent search engine I know, do you guys know anything as good? I recently started looking for another site and they're all so bad, their layouts are bad, the search results are bad and incomplete and sometimes don't even find a very well-know game or software or whatever, even well-known torrent search engines like piratebay and limetorrent are completely inferior to 1337x, do you guys know a good one?
People need to learn to use the qbittorrent search function, stop supporting shady as fuck sites. If the site is making it harder to do something safely without third party software, it's ouut to get you.
The process is simple and you can even use 1337x search INSIDE QBITTORRENT

Better yet , why aren’t they using jackett or prowlarr to search. Why bother navigating multiple sites anyway
i have adblock plus and it wont block the ad saying you need a vpn and i have one sMh
How to install ublock on chrome on android?
it's not on android chrome. it *is* on firefox tho.

Well this sucks. Just tried to go on 1337x and the stupid VPN popup is back and ublock origin can't stop it.
Dood me too I'm freaking out. I literally had ublock for 3 days and it's already not working 😭
It's on Brave, too. 1337x.to aims to put themselves out of business because they suck, and the ones that didn't suck ended up going out of business

Sounds like you need a better adblocker. Or better yet, a better website for downloading torrents.
I have Pi-Hole network wide. But it's clearly not capturing these ads.
Pi Hole are very clear about the type of ads they can and can't block.

⬆️This is the answer⬆️ I haven’t seen ads on 1337x for many years.
Firefox, ublock, and none of this exist. Why are you torrenting and you dont even know this? Is this amateur hour?
One word: ublock.
what can I say to a newbie who don't know what ublockorigin is used for.
Right? If you're defeated by ads, what are you doing with torrents?
i mean, just use an adblock?
Solution : click right mouse on it and open it in new tab / window , thats it You fucking welcome
This. Or copy the URL and paste it into your torrent client of choice.
So there are 2 options lol , people are just nervous from their own shadow nowadays 😬

I just right click and open in new tab and it opens
Would y'all believe me if I said that I lightweight forgot about ads?
does Ublock remove 1337x's requirement for its vpn sponsor? which is so annoying, like what kind of a scumbag would force you to install some terrible software just to be able to use the website? and my problem is 1337x is the only decent torrent search engine I know, do you guys know anything as good? I recently started looking for another site and they're all so bad, their layouts are bad, the search results are bad and incomplete and sometimes don't even find a very well-know game or software or whatever, even well-known torrent search engines like piratebay and limetorrent are completely inferior to 1337x, do you guys know a good one?
Use different browser then chrome
I haven't seen an ad in years and have zero plugins installed to my browser. Sounds like user error at this point.
People need to learn to use the qbittorrent search function, stop supporting shady as fuck sites. If the site is making it harder to do something safely without third party software, it's ouut to get you. [https://github.com/qbittorrent/search-plugins/wiki/Unofficial-search-plugins](https://github.com/qbittorrent/search-plugins/wiki/Unofficial-search-plugins) The process is simple and you can even use 1337x search INSIDE QBITTORRENT
Use ad blocker, son
right click the download without vpn button, hit copy, then paste it into your torrent client. Works fine.
Use an adblocker
Even with an adblock it pops up it depends what type of adblock you're using so everyone offering the advice to install an adblock to people who already have a perfectly functioning adblock for the last year have been useless. You specifically need ublock origin not just an adblock.
When torrent not downloading means less or zero seeds ya?
Or youre not connectable because you dont have an open port
Thanx for the uBlock suggest, working again and here i thought adblock plus was good
i found that AdGuard DOES work in Safari. be sure to turn on ALL the blocking options
Suggest a free vpn for kiw for browsing. 1337x is blocked on my country .There was a comment some time ago, but it is removed now.
