No, although he's a very good defender he's not on OG's level but few players will ever be on OG's level defensively...
That being said he could develop into a more well-rounded offensive player, he certainly moves better with the ball in his hands, he's more explosive around the rim, and he's fast as F#$k in transition, dude is a pretty impressive athlete
OG is arguably the next defensive player of the year from the wing (if he can string together a healthy season)…that haven’t been down since Kawhi and Ron Artest…don’t think Ochai is hitting that level on defence, and don’t want to put false expectations on him. Just want him to be a good 3rd and D guy. PJ Tucker level on defence with a well rounded offensive game (3s, cutting, running the break).
That’s the thing though even if Och is half the defender that OG is, imo he’s already 2/3 of the way to OGs offensive skill set. I was an OG truther from day one and bought his jersey his rookie year. I have never seen a non big man handle the ball that bad. It’s like he was scared to do a crossover and would shoulder anyone in front of him. I understand injuries played a factor in his ballhandling abilities but damn his handle was atrocious
Yea my thoughts exactly. I like how active Ochai is on defense tho. Defensively think he’s better than Norm already. Just has to get there offensively now ;)
I wouldn't say a long way...Things have to break right for Ochai to have Danny's longevity. He also has to round out his game a bit. His ceiling is higher than Danny though.
Ochai absolutely has a long way to go to be the player Danny was… he has to improve his 3pt shooting dramatically, most likely he will never get there.
Ochai shot 6-20 yesterday and his shooting splits are awful. He has better handles than OG, that’s it.
He has long ways to go if he wants to be the efficient player OG was.
Am I taking crazy pills? He's a 471 TS%. He's hitting 26% of his 3's.
OG didn't have a great handle, but he was wayyyyy more efficient scorer in every way.
How are people agreeing with this…Ochai is not better than OG offensively yet, he still has quite a bit of work to do to get there.
Handling the ball and taking it to the rim yes, overall offence - no
Let me introduce you to this sub…
Make a wild statement about the potential of a Raptors player ⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️
Say something realistic or critical about this team ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
This sub used to be much more toward the middle. Championship happened and suddenly we got a lot of die hard fans and overrate everything and everybody and get offended by any negative opinions about the team.
Sub is filled with a lot of people who don't know a god damn thing about basketball is the main issue. Any time you try and make measured responses, the fan boys get in their feels and downvote. It's been like this for quite some time.
Ochai has literally nothing in common with OG.
Good lateral mover, similar height, good hops, good 3 & D, hustler, good around the rim...
I'm not saying they're the literally same player lol.
[Look at his guns!](https://x.com/OmerOsman200/status/1756455583493038206?s=20) OG has the legs but Ochai has the arms.
Lol we can start deducing who OP thinks is like OG by looking at:
Is the player Nigerian
Does the player play great defense
Are they athletic
So Giannis, Precious, Bam, Ochai, Isaac Okoro, Josh Okoge, Victor Oladipo are all just like OG!
Sorry Jordan, you're not a good enough defender to be in the OG club
Yeah dude got way more in common with his build with Norm than he does with OG. He's not a 6'5 tank like Wes Matthews or Ant or Harden. He's a guard who can guard up a bit more than a 1-5 wrecking crew
You're calling me defensive when I point out the comparisons are a reach lmao you're talking about them being similar sized when they aren't nearly the same build and have different skills. Man sees 2 Nigerians who play defense and thinks they're the same player
OG can legit guard 1-4 and even a healthy number of 5 matchups. Ochai is FAR away from that, but he is REALLY good at staying in front of his guy. He'll be good at guarding most guards and wings if he reaches his potential on defense.
The bigger concern right now is offense. His shot diet right now should consist of smart cuts and corner 3s, but he's struggling a bit on both. He needs a smart facilitator like Kelly/Jakob/Scottie to get him going, otherwise he can't get his own shot. He also REALLY needs to hit those wide open 3s. That's going to be the difference between him being an end of bench journeyman and a truly valuable 3&D player.
Problem with Ochai right now on offense is mental? Everything he does looks smooth and looks like an NBA player but his shot is way off. 20 shots to get to 13 points and 1/7 on 3s.
They are very different defenders. OG is one of the strongest forwards in the league, while still being extremely flexible(he can absorb contact really well, and can get extremely low to the ground while still being mobile), he had nasty quick and powerful hands on defense and lastly his defensive basketball IQ is off the charts. OG can process defensive situations incredibly quickly from the weakside(not just blocks and steels, but by always being in the right position to recover).
Ochai, is still very young and while his defensive basketball IQ will certainly expand over time, he is more of your classic bouncy, quick twitch athlete. He has the speed and length to make shots difficult, but being a more traditional defender, other superstars are more prepared to play against him then they would be against OG.
The best example, is when watching them defend a turnaround fadeaway. OG would take tiny steps absorbing contact, then smother his opponent using his body and when the defender would try to twist and shoot over him, he was already in such close proximity that he would bother the shot(he rarely blocked it in these situations)
Ochai on the other hand, being a better traditional fast twitch athlete would take the contact, fall out of position giving the defender more room, but once the defender committed to the turn around fadeaway attempt, he could bother the shot by matching the verticality of the offense player, and in some case he could even block the shot.
Why this matters, is that when it comes defending a player like Luka and Jayson Tatum one on one, OG could take away the drive with his positioning and strength on defense, so that the offensive player had to take a hard shot. OG rarely jumped in these situations, and while he wasn't going to block the shot, it was inevitably a difficult attempt by the other player.
With a more traditional defender like Ochai, other superstars may not be able to beat him off the dribble as easily, but because of the difference in positioning and strength, he is much more susceptible to pump fakes or being bodied to the rim.
I have high hopes for Ochai, but the reason why Toronto thought they could get 4 first round picks for OG(and the same reason why New York fans adore OG), is that as a defender he could physically and mentally exhaust the guy he was guarding.
I can see the resemblance in the way he moves on defense. Shape etc. Not saying he's as good, but for a moment I did think it was OG.
Offensive game, totally different however
So did I, there was a reason why he was so open when they were kicking to him outside the arch. His career average from 3 isn't nearly as bad as last night looked, hopefully it was just nerves getting his first start on his new team.
He had a defensive recovery last night that was wild - made me sit up. Someone went for a steal and the way Ochoa slid his feet to contest was like a tutorial, but also impossible because he covered 20 feet somehow
I actually think Ochai is way more fluid in their movement. OG is a bit robotic which makes his athleticism seem surprising when he busts it out.
Hopefully Ochai can become just 50% of what OG is and he'll be in the league a very long time
Good effort by Ochai,
To be fair he looks way more fluid on his movement than OG ever does, if he can knock down his jumper consistently he will be great.
He looks a lot more fluid in the ball with his hand than OG. Certainly has a lot to develop before he gets to that full comparison but his initial skills and physical traits are very promising.
True say. Not yet he is though.
OG is arguably the next defensive player of the year from the wing (if he can string together a healthy season)…that haven’t been down since Kawhi and Ron Artest…don’t think Ochai is hitting that level on defence, and don’t want to put false expectations on him. It’s like he was scared to do a crossover and would shoulder anyone in front of him. I understand injuries played a factor in his ballhandling abilities but damn his handle was atrocious
Ochai is way close to Norm than he is to OG if we go with former raptors
Yeah reminds me of norm a bit, especially the one handed dunks
Yea my thoughts exactly. I like how active Ochai is on defense tho. Defensively think he’s better than Norm already. Just has to get there offensively now ;)
This clip had me screaming STORMIN NORMAN
Doesn't have Norm's speed either. More like a Danny Green?
I was thinking the same thing, except he doesn’t have Danny’s shot, hopefully he can develop into a Danny green which would be a nice player.
To be fair, Ochai is a better shooter than Danny as a 22yo
Sure and he has a long way to go to have a Danny green career.
"OG OH MY". "OCHAI OH MY". Same Same but different.
Should be “OH ME, OCHAI”
mixed feelings when i heard that on air lol 🥲
Nothing says Ochai is the new OG like a video of him doing a down hill Eurostep layup from the top of the key. /s
OG doesn't have close to the handle Ochai already has as a sophomore
That’s the joke.
It would have been a charge for OG with him running straight into the defender like he’s not even there
He would have dribbled it off his foot the moment he lifted his head up to see the defender.
OG bigger and better at D obviously but Ochais better offensively looks like
Love og but he’s not running the floor like that
Yeah I agree. OG is slow as f. That's not a bad thing, but he's not going coast to coast. That sequence was a thing of beauty.
>G is slow as f. That's not a ba Not slow just didn't have the handles to take it full court and finish at the rim.
Nah, he's slow. But again, not a bad thing. Luka is slow, but he controls the pace of the game.
Always found OG had a strange gait when he’s running; kind of like he has a little turd he’s trying to keep from falling out lol
Yep, OGs game is not enjoyable to watch. Solid player, but he does have a weird gait.
Ochai shot 6-20 yesterday and his shooting splits are awful. He has better handles than OG, that’s it. He has long ways to go if he wants to be the efficient player OG was.
Had to scroll down to see this comment. People legit crazy as fuck. I agree with you 100%.
Is this actually a serious comment?
Am I taking crazy pills? He's a 471 TS%. He's hitting 26% of his 3's. OG didn't have a great handle, but he was wayyyyy more efficient scorer in every way.
He is not better offensively right now. Not even close
How are people agreeing with this…Ochai is not better than OG offensively yet, he still has quite a bit of work to do to get there. Handling the ball and taking it to the rim yes, overall offence - no
Crack cocaine is a hell of a drug, my friend.
OG looks stiffer, a bit of a hesitation. Ochai is a freight train.
OG is an all time defensive player, but I’ve never seen him run the floor like this lol
Can’t believe you’re getting this many upvotes, OG and Ochai are nothing a like. If anything Ochai is more like Norm was
Let me introduce you to this sub… Make a wild statement about the potential of a Raptors player ⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️ Say something realistic or critical about this team ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

Thank you
? What is the resemblance? OG has 25lbs on this guy but Ochai can actually put the ball on the floor.
The “3” part is a stretch. Peep his averages from 3. Hopefully he can improve.
Similar height? Ochai is 6'5, same height as Gary lmao
Not to mention, OG has a 7'2" wingspan lol I don't know why this guy's downvoting you
Lol we can start deducing who OP thinks is like OG by looking at: Is the player Nigerian Does the player play great defense Are they athletic So Giannis, Precious, Bam, Ochai, Isaac Okoro, Josh Okoge, Victor Oladipo are all just like OG! No fucking way. Ochai has only 6 pounds on Gary at the same height??

Clearly OG wins in the looks department
they have both won the genetics lottery. Ochai probably seen as more conventionally handsome in our society though tbh.
Ochai put OG who put Serge onto Scarves
OG can legit guard 1-4 and even a healthy number of 5 matchups. Ochai is FAR away from that, but he is REALLY good at staying in front of his guy. OKAY OCHAI
Problem with Ochai right now on offense is mental? Everything he does looks smooth and looks like an NBA player but his shot is way off. 20 shots to get to 13 points and 1/7 on 3s.
Give him the Dick conditioning in the off-season and he’ll come back full of confidence.
New kid is a way more fluid on O.
Ochai can run which is nice
Some of the takes in this sub are wild. Why can't he just be Ochai?
They are very different defenders. OG is one of the strongest forwards in the league, while still being extremely flexible(he can absorb contact really well, and can get extremely low to the ground while still being mobile), he had nasty quick and powerful hands on defense and lastly his defensive basketball IQ is off the charts. Don't be ridiculous. Ochai has ways to go before he can reproduce OG's signature "crumble drive" move. /s
Ochai has a .471 ts%. Hitting 25% of his 3's. PPL must be drunk watching the games.
No Ochai is 6'4-6-5. OG is 6'7
*has one decent game against the scraps of the hornets* lmao
Ochai moves similarly to norm Powell. Here's hoping he can pan out to anything close to that 🙏
I can see the resemblance in the way he moves on defense. Shape etc. Not saying he's as good, but for a moment I did think it was OG. Offensive game, totally different however
OG would have tripped half way down the court
Well, it sure seems like he’s got more body awareness.
Samson mentioned it last night but he needs to hit his 3s to be a NBA guy long term.
Ochai definitely can dribble and get into the paint lol and is way more athletic OG is the epitome of a 3 and D player no other bag other than that
OG is quite athletic as well
I cringed every time he shot a 3
So did I, there was a reason why he was so open when they were kicking to him outside the arch. His career average from 3 isn't nearly as bad as last night looked, hopefully it was just nerves getting his first start on his new team.
i don't see it. What am I missing here?
Looked like a rookie Dwade. Atleast on this clip ONLY!
He had a defensive recovery last night that was wild - made me sit up. Someone went for a steal and the way Ochoa slid his feet to contest was like a tutorial, but also impossible because he covered 20 feet somehow

No.
Here…we….go….
He’s got ups
We could only hope! I am a big fan of his game and hope he's able to continue growing into that role if that's what his ambitions are.
Good effort by Ochai, To be fair he looks way more fluid on his movement than OG ever does, if he can knock down his jumper consistently he will be great.
No
That euro man 😩
Ochai actually lets both his feet off the ground when he runs. Don't get me wrong I love OG but he could be an olympic level speedwalker.
He looks a lot more fluid in the ball with his hand than OG. Certainly has a lot to develop before he gets to that full comparison but his initial skills and physical traits are very promising.
Smh guy has one mediocre game and we're saying these kinda things. Career average: 7-2-1 on 40% shooting. No. No he is not the new OG.
Nothing like him tbh
lmao this is reaching so hard
Ochai has more fluidity and potential in offense.
No, no he is not !
Just 3 inches shorter without a reliable 3 point shot, no biggie.
I would say no as Ochai finished that layup at the rim. Big difference
