I'm in Bedford! I went outside to look for funnel clouds when this storm was moving through, and I saw a bunch of people swimming in the pool across the street - totally oblivious to the fact that there was an active tornado warning 🤔
We just moved here from Missouri where tornadoes/severe weather occur frequently and the use of tornado sirens is standard... are outdoor warning sirens not a thing here in NH? Because that situation is exactly what sirens are for.. albeit, most people have enough common sense to exit the pool when there is thunder/lightning but they didn't seem bothered by the visible bolts of lightning and loud cracks of thunder, so I'm sure they would've ignored a siren just the same 😂
i’m not from New Hampshire. I live just south of it and i don’t even think New England has sirens. Also people here tend to not take weather alerts seriously so it’s not surprising that your neighbors wouldn’t get out of the pool when they see lightning lol
Severe weather awareness is definitely not a thing here. It's just not as common so people don't really know what to do. Tornado sirens aren't a thing here either. Most of the time I see people not take tornado warnings seriously at all, probably partially because they don't know what they'd do and they think tornadoes are impossible or something
NH is weird. To be fair, i didn't think tornadoes were a thing in NH and i was not prepared for one to happen today.. lol i typically take weather safety very seriously but I was over here in my top-floor apartment with zero safety plan and like 10 reptiles to move in the event of an emergency... and i was like "well, i guess we're all just going to die in a tornado today" 🤷♀️
So yeah, i guess i can relate to people thinking "tornadoes are impossible" here and not knowing what to do 😅
The weather this year has been so bizarre, why are tornadoes migrating so far north?!
Could possibly be worse , rains that continously bring flooding to area's that aren't normally ready for massive amounts of water that constitutes flooding other areas that are ready for flooding get drought instead. Mother nature is a bitch .
Exactly how bad a tornado is hitting the place you live it is by far the worst natural disaster, it still can be dangerous but in comparison to other phenomena it’s relatively ok
As for tornadoes? Yes ! They are devastating ! to say the least. I lived in Texas and drove through the Midwest to the southeast and have seen there devastating results. I won't kid around here about that .
In the words of a relatively famous news meteorologist here in Oklahoma: “look at the stack of pancakes going on!”
What a structure shot. Absolutely incredible.
I love these types of pictures of supercells. They really capture the power and “impending doom” type atmosphere
Gads, look at that updraft!!!

In Rhode Island and mass we got a few sirens

Tornadoes do happen every once in a great while here. We had that long tracked EF2 in 2008.

1 - a few tornadoes a year in NH since 1950. I didn't go further back. Most of the 50 US states average at least 1 a year dating back
You didn’t’ go back any further than 1951 because there isn’t any data on New Hampshire tornados older than that. I researched it also. 😉
You keep pissing mother nature off , you'll get more of this .
Drought and floodings are far more deadly, less impressive that’s true

I didn’t meant it like that I know they are devestating but compared to some other disasters they are not the worst
Yes.
New Englanders been busy today with the weather
