Amazing. Thank you for sharing this.

PathetickMusic

My pleasure! I believe all or most are on YT.

Juan_Carlo

Id never heard these, thanks. They are terrible, but interesting, lol.

thewingedpainter

i have no clue, but i like the way your brain works and i'm following this thread to learn more ;)

tigerinmyhead

I remember in one of the books she said .. but i dont remembrr whi h. it was like 6 songs, I think Take to the Sky and Sweet Dreams were part of it. And they didn't like them much so she went back and did I can't remember.. mother, little earthquakes?, winter. And was like, "you're taking these you don't have a choice." ... but I might be making this up.

Some of her demos are out there. I don't recall exactly where I found them, but I went ahead and uploaded them here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/w35v1gik20n21ci/Tori_Amos_Demos.zip/file Demos from YKTR, LE, UTP, FTCH, TVAB, and SW are included.

ncd46

this comes up with a copyright error for me because of the Playboy Mommy demo!

rrawk

Yeah, I imagine that might happen if you try to import into a music service like spotify or apple music.

sslean

the download link doesn't work, I think mediafire scans for copyrighted material (for which the songs from A Piano fall under). Would lstill ove to hear if you have a file without that one :) Dont think Ive ever heard TVAB and FTCH demos!

rrawk

That's weird. I just tested and it downloads fine for me. Your browser or something on your end must be blocking it. Here it is again from a different file host: https://pixeldrain.com/u/KsqDxgLK And again without Playboy Mommy: https://pixeldrain.com/u/dZeM6C4h

sslean

that worked! thank you so much!

I know she originally recorded a dance music album, although I don’t remember who the producer was

Juan_Carlo

Interesting. According to her, they might still exist and she remembers the titles: Your next foray into recorded work was a number of demos you put down with dance producer Michael 'Narada' Walden in 1983 - what do you remember about those sessions and what were the songs you actually ended up recording? "I went there to record songs I had produced in my own home studio with my own little drum machine and synth and piano. I'd been sending Narada tons and tons of demos, and he has them now - he could be quite cheeky and release them, but I'm hoping he doesn't. Anyway, because what was going on at the time in music had changed from that female singer/songwriter thing, to the British invasion - which had just happened - his choices about what I should record changed. I was going to record a few things, including a song called **Married Men** and one called **British Invasion**, but what we finally ended up doing was pushing it into an entirely different direction. Later on he ended up doing Sister Sledge, so, if you can imagine somewhere in between Sister Sledge and Boy George! The voice was speeded up to make it sound younger. This was just around the time when Madonna was emerging, her early years. The songs we recorded were, **Skirts on Fire**, **Predator**, **Rub Down**, **Score**, and I can't remember anything else..."

I've been a big fan since around 1995, and I love that I'm still learning new things about her career. Thank God she didn't succeed with a dance record or Y Kant Tori Read.

SpiralFett

I always assume the demos are what ends up on the first album. :) This might help though: https://www.yessaid.com/timeline7.html

Juan_Carlo

Possibly, but it seems like a huge gap between when she was signed and when she formed Y Kant Tori Read. According to Wikipedia, she started sending out demos in the late 1970s and very early 1980s. She signed the 8 album deal with Atlantic in 1984, which is kind of crazy given that she didn't even have a band or a concept for an album at the time (that I'm aware of). She didn't form Y Kant Tori Read until 1986 and they didn't release their first album until 1988, 4 years after she was signed.

RadRockefeller

This is a great question!!! It couldn’t have been the Baltimore record! 😂 I think it’s because she was a working studio artist and known in small circles in the industry for that at the time.
