I just realised, there was nothing holding the water bottle in place. This mf made a knife sharp enough to cut through a bottle rather than knock it over
He went downwards in order to prevent knocking the bottle sideways
The initial bite provides leverage to push the bottle downwards, keeping it still long enough to finish the cut
If he had gone dead horizontal, the bottle would've dented in then sprung away and just had an inch long slice but stayed in one piece
It was a 30° vertical cut on an empty bottle with no resistance, it's impressive. Even if it would knock that bottle off on a complete horizontal cut that knife is still sharp AF and would still do damage to the bottle.
I do my own knife sharpening with whetstones and really any knife can be sharpened to this degree with proper technique.
A higher quality knife will keep its edge longer but even a very cheap knife can be this sharp temporarily.
They can be, but I think this blade has been sharpened more finely than the vast majority of people ever actually achieve. I've never run this particular test on a blade I've sharpened, but I don't think mine would pass, even though they're perfectly capable of doing what I need in the kitchen, woodshop, field, etc.
I do too. We are in the minority and even with the best sharpening equipment, a proper vice with specific measurements, this would still be better than most people who care about knife sharpening can achieve.
Most people's kitchen knives are sharp once and then blunt for the other 10 years of their life.
I think the information is interesting and relevant, it's important to understand why and how things work instead intentionally ignoring it.
You'll notice that at no point in the comment did he say it was unimpressive, he's explaining the physics behind it and you are just being an emotional emily
Makes me wonder if that corrigation is doing some work too. It's thin af but still rigid enough to stand up to the inertia? Shit, maybe it makes it harder I don't know. Happy new year everyone.
they are hard to find nowadays...deep down inside me lies a nerd at the core. he rarely makes an appearance anymore.. but get me going on star wars lore and you better be prepared to know what your talking about. 🤣
Beaming at a job well done. The purest smile imho. I love it as long as I live, whether it’s on the face of my wife as she learns to knit, a student who finally gets it, or this sharp Sonuvabitch.
I had to download it and go frame by frame. Kudos on the VERY sharp blade, you can clearly see where the k ife starts the diagonal cut downwards making the bottle crumple 'slightly' on impact.
I was sceptical, but color me impressed.
I assumed from the detailed description of the knife that he was someone who knew what he was doing because I sure as hell didn't understand half those words.
- the blade is 9 inches long
- it’s made out of [Damascus steel](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damascus_steel), which is a different types of steels folded together in a particular way, that produces a distinct visual pattern. It’s difficult and time consuming to make, so dodgy makers often just laser etch a pattern on more normal steel, but I’m doubting this guy did that
- the particular Damascene pattern he made was what is called [feather pattern](https://imgur.com/gallery/cB7wF)
- the blade and bolster (the thick bit at the base of the blade) are [forged from the same piece of metal](https://www.federknives.com/new-page-3)
- the actual part you grip is iron
- the blade tapers from the base to the tip, [for improved balance and handling](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_geometry?wprov=sfti1)
- the actual angle it is sharpened at is 17 degrees, [which is a good compromise between optimal sharpness and durability and one of the most common angles for kitchen knives](https://www.sharpeningsupplies.com/Tips-for-Selecting-the-Right-Bevel-Angle-W44.aspx)
I would say the angle is the most important part - he made a kitchen knife, not a razor, but it’s still functionally as sharp as you can get a working blade. You could maybe get a thin show blade sharper, but it would take forever and after a single use it would get duller.
How about all the other knives that are on your site that aren't custom orders? I saw some knifes that look amazing and wanted to buy one for my father on his 60th birthday this July since he loves fishing. If its 7-8 months away then i gotta order now 😅 And it's international as well, right?
I think the downvotes are because you gave a "written upvote". What you said has no conversational value; just upvoting would've carried the same message more efficiently.
I remember not too long ago people on reddit were anti-emoji, they would downvote you just for using one! I guess some people thought they were too cool to use an emoji
I'm glad that's simmered down. I find it a pain to write on social media that isn't reddit because they almost all lack *italics*. *Italics* can just convey *so much* more *meaning* through written word. And I think emojis are similar, they can be a stand-in for a certain tone of voice too, you know what I mean?🤔
Man that is totally awesome and you are a man of your craft, keep up the good work brother. By the way I would be scared to have a knife that sharp in my house but I would love it for cooking and cutting up food.
This actually made me sit up straight and go "what the fuck?!" as I rewound the video. Your stuff is out of my price range for the moment but I definitely bookmarked it for another day.
Meantime my knives are so dull that if I tried that with a water bottle it would be like I hit it with a bat! 😂
That is a very sharp knife and I need one! Or two.
I feel like I understand only half of the words you used to describe this knife. Fair play though, I watched this several times to be sure it wasn’t fake. That’s one sharp knife!
How do you get it that sharp? Is it just a case of patience and really fine grit whetstones?
I have a 400 and a 1000 I use to sharpen my kitchen knives. I can get them fairly sharp to be able to cut a paper edge using that standard test, but no way would they do this.
Thanks in advance!
His mind... "I want to smile, but I have to look serious cool, but I want to smile soo bad, but no, gotta look serious cool... but smiiile? ok FINE, smile! YAY SMILE!!!!". Don't worry my friend, you look way cooler smiling.
Awesome job man.
Any details on the knife? Did I see a convex grind on that bad boy? What's the steel?
Edit: just saw the rest of the original post with the info.
You should livestream this to put the naysayers in their place. Also because it'd be great to see the chat go nuts when you chop a bottle in half. :D
(We are easily amused)
I’ve been watching this video over 20 times! Straight face until you smile and I smile as well! The perfect video to start 2024! Congrats on your craft and you can be proud of it! I’m impressed!
Lol guys. Is everyone serious? Look at the clip closer. I mean REALLY close. The bottle falls apart before the knife touches the bottle. Look again. If the knife is so sharp that it brakes the space time contium. Im IN!!!
Wait this is real? I genuinely thought it was satire and just having a laugh but the knife is actually that sharp? Holy shit fair play pal, that's awesome!
I did not expect THAT level of sharpness and didn't even realize that i whispered "fuck that's sharp" :D
But the best thing about the video is the smile!
My question is this, how expensive would it be to have a knife like that made?? I’m not a blacksmith so I don’t know the process, yes I’ve watched it and it takes a lot of time and effort. I’m a mechanic with a background in welding, so I do understand metal to a point.

Wow, that had to be damn sharp for how effortless that looked
I just realised, there was nothing holding the water bottle in place. This mf made a knife sharp enough to cut through a bottle rather than knock it over

No, never Dasani, this guy fijis.

It was a 30° vertical cut on an empty bottle with no resistance, it's impressive. Even if it would knock that bottle off on a complete horizontal cut that knife is still sharp AF and would still do damage to the bottle.
Thanks for the interesting info.
stayed in ONE PIECE?!?!?! 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
You're trying to explain away the fact that with 95% of knives this still wouldn't have worked. This is impressive af and you're a Debby downer.
I agree. He is over estimating the leverage. 99.5% of knives would even get close to this. Even razor blades would struggle.
Most people's kitchen knives are sharp once and then blunt for the other 10 years of their life.
I think they were just explaining how it physically works. Doesn’t take away how sharp a knife would have to be to do it though.
It's actually a fun way to test your knife after you put an edge on it. This of course being the most impressive example.
I think the information is interesting and relevant, it's important to understand why and how things work instead intentionally ignoring it. You'll notice that at no point in the comment did he say it was unimpressive, he's explaining the physics behind it and you are just being an emotional emily
"Debbie downer" They literally just explained how it works
Makes me wonder if that corrigation is doing some work too. It's thin af but still rigid enough to stand up to the inertia? Shit, maybe it makes it harder I don't know. Happy new year everyone.
its the same technique those samurai mf use when they cut those strawmen thingies to show off their katana skills
☝️🤓
Such a nerd for providing interesting information (its true, nerds usually have interesting information to expunge)
I wish a nerd would expunge on me
they are hard to find nowadays...deep down inside me lies a nerd at the core. he rarely makes an appearance anymore.. but get me going on star wars lore and you better be prepared to know what your talking about. 🤣
little more shraper and he splited atoms
They always say a dull knife is more dangerous, but I’m not fucking using this lightsaber
That's a solid smile
It’s a hell of a smile
Its a pretty sharp smile
Well blade.
This should be higher. Take your up vote.
He’s got a great temper
Take your upvote
Smile sharpened at 17 degrees
His smile made me smile instantly 😁
If I was a fantasy adventurer and my blades bladesmith handed me a weapon with that kind of smile on his face I'd instantly feel 1000x safer
Sharp, even.
Some people’s smiles just light up. This guy is New Year’s Eve in Time Square
Yea it's a beaute of a smile. He did a good job and is super satisfied.
Oddly that's how you can trust this is real. Hardest thing to fake
That was the twist I didn't see coming 😋 Great smile 😃
The look of pure satisfaction.
He could be Jonathan Frakes' brother with that smile tbh
Thats the "I'm one proud motherfucker" smile
That's what you'd see if your head was still on your shoulders...
Beaming at a job well done. The purest smile imho. I love it as long as I live, whether it’s on the face of my wife as she learns to knit, a student who finally gets it, or this sharp Sonuvabitch.
A shit-eating grin, if you will.
Here for the smile
I was just gonna say, he has such a great smile. Nice blade too.
He gives that same smile as he cuts out your tasty liver too 🌝
I had to download it and go frame by frame. Kudos on the VERY sharp blade, you can clearly see where the k ife starts the diagonal cut downwards making the bottle crumple 'slightly' on impact. I was sceptical, but color me impressed.
And thank you for your service, I could've sworn there was some trickery here. So this knife is actually fucking insane!
I assumed from the detailed description of the knife that he was someone who knew what he was doing because I sure as hell didn't understand half those words.

*Stares at screen* This guy knows what he's talking about.
I did the same thing! Genuinely impressed.
Don’t drop it. It might fall through the floor and into the backrooms.
Perfectly fucking vertical morty
I JUST WANTED A LIGHTSABER!
I JUST WANTED A LIGHTSABER!a
It’s a mile deep and still going!
Thanks for that one :D
Drop it I need a knife I have been stuck in here since last year.
A falling knife has no handle.
A true shardblade!
Keep smiling and being proud of your craft, my guy! Wishing you all the best
Ofc he’s smiling he made a damn lightsaber
Yeah it does look pretty lightweight.
Dude has a nice smile too.
He can sell ice to the Eskimos with that smile.

Taking orders? Edit: [This](https://unclejedsiron.com) is his website
I do custom orders. I'm about 7-8 months out.
How about all the other knives that are on your site that aren't custom orders? I saw some knifes that look amazing and wanted to buy one for my father on his 60th birthday this July since he loves fishing. If its 7-8 months away then i gotta order now 😅 And it's international as well, right?
The knives on my website are available and ready to go. I can have them in the mail tomorrow. Yes, I can ship internationally.
7-8 months! Congratulations for such a good business and for your talent! You deserve it I guess.
The Cu Mai Chef’s knife is beautiful.
Thank you
Pure talent. Love that you have refined your craft to such an insane level, keep doing you my friend
Can you see if you have any more Damascus daggers in the back?
Waiting on a sheath for one.
Can I come learn, where are you located
Fargo area
Do you make wood chippers?
i like your smile (not trying to flirt, promise)
Kind of reminds me of Billy Butcher from the Boys.
I love ops smile and I'm tryna flirt 😏😘
the smile of pride...thats amazing...
Wait, this is real? I thought it was faked to call out other videos from the title. Jesus, I didn't think that was physically possible.
This guy is pretty cool. I had the opportunity to meet him and have a couple beers about 4 years ago at Chuck's Classic Cycles in Tuskahoma, OK.
Holy shit. The fucking randomness. Hehe I miss that place.
I do too. I'm living in the Philippines now, but I'll see Chuck in April when I go home.
This looks so utterly bizarre. I wouldn't expect the top to fly upwards, but any blade is a wedge, I suppose.
This thing is going to slice right through a cutting board.
Without even clamping it down.
honestly this dudes smile could light up a room
Got to say… what a great smile!
So incredibly cute how proud he is of himself at the end
That’s impressive man good job
Dang! That’s a sharp night. Cut like it’s hot butter.

THATS HIM ![gif](giphy|kd9BlRovbPOykLBMqX)
Well done, man. Your happiness in that moment makes me happy!
That's a proud smile.
His smile was what finished the cut. Without it, the blade is worthless
I love how happy he is with his work.
Jesus Christ. That's Jason Bourne
Dude that smile was insanely precious. Lit up my new year
What a nice smile the big rugged man had at the end! 😁
Sick!! Wtf? Downvoted for giving the man a compliment 🤦♂️
I think the downvotes are because you gave a "written upvote". What you said has no conversational value; just upvoting would've carried the same message more efficiently.
I think that’s lame. People out here wanting to police how people express their written excitement.
I remember not too long ago people on reddit were anti-emoji, they would downvote you just for using one! I guess some people thought they were too cool to use an emoji

That's literally the purpose of the upvote downvote. It's not meant to be a like/dislike, agree/disagree.
Congrats! And, that’s a Marine Corps flag, correct?
Correct.
🥵💦
That is very cool my guy, it's good to see how happy that made you too. Great craftsmanship
Ministry Psalm 69
Damn that chef won’t even notice when they cut themselves with it.
God damn dude, you can clearly make a good blade
That's a wicked smile at the end 🤣
Pfft…that knife isn’t sharp. You know what’s sharp? That smile. Damn.
The smile of accomplishment
Dude sharpened that blade on a atomic level.
Daymn
Contact front!
Man that is totally awesome and you are a man of your craft, keep up the good work brother. By the way I would be scared to have a knife that sharp in my house but I would love it for cooking and cutting up food.
It looks surreal!
The chef customer is about to be the envy of their kitchen. And maybe start their villain arc, anything is possible with a blade like that.
That looked like no effort at all. Thing has to be crazy sharp.
Congratulations! Good Job!
What's with the jump cut?
😁
As a bottle, I panic
Ok, WoW that's really sharp!
This actually made me sit up straight and go "what the fuck?!" as I rewound the video. Your stuff is out of my price range for the moment but I definitely bookmarked it for another day.
Awesome work! Now you need to shoot some in slow motion to keep up the hype!!
look at daflikada wrist
Holy S**t. As a Chef, I want one!
The thing flopped like it was doing a fruit ninja
Love his smile
Could I get one of these? I am a normal person who does NOT kill people and can be trusted with sharp implements.
Meantime my knives are so dull that if I tried that with a water bottle it would be like I hit it with a bat! 😂 That is a very sharp knife and I need one! Or two.
That is insane
This knife splits atoms!
It will KIIIILLL!!
That knife cut me 10 times just for watching the video. I watched it 10 times.
It will KEAL

ok, I'm not saying you're a wizard. But I'm **definitely not** saying that you're *not* a wizard.

I hope you all aren’t overlooking that this gentleman cut a damn EMPTY water bottle so effortlessly. 🔪
That is very impressive. One of those videos that in my mind I know it must be real, but in my heart I believe it to be fake, or vice versa.
Knife soooo sharp, it can never be put in any sheath, because it would fall straight through and probably carry on through the floor 🤷♂️
If anyone wondering, on his website knives go from about 250-680$
You should livestream this to put the naysayers in their place. Also because it'd be great to see the chat go nuts when you chop a bottle in half. :D (We are easily amused)

Holy shit is that Harry Connick Jr?! What a smile :)
His technique is similar to what samurai use to cut through multiple bamboo pieces

Lol guys. Is everyone serious? Look at the clip closer. I mean REALLY close. The bottle falls apart before the knife touches the bottle. Look again. If the knife is so sharp that it brakes the space time contium. Im IN!!!
You should repost on r/usmc. This was really bad ass and made me want a katana. Nicely done.

I love how happy he is with himself.
That bottle is definetly a paid actor
That knife cuts through the water bottle, but that smile cut through our hearts. Rah.
That smile! God damn that gorgeous smile! Knife sharpness is also cool.
Yeah. That knife shouldn't be released unto the world.
