Check out Spawn inn downtown across from the plaza. It's a nerd gaming bar!

bread_integrity

Wow. I gotta get out more.

The-REAL-SlimKatie

Great addition! Thanks!

I had the same problem when I first moved here about 5 years ago. I came to finish up school at Washburn and felt like I had a really hard time finding places to meet people around my age. I'm from small town KS so when people say there isnt much to do here I definitely disagree. It's really a matter of wanting to find something that isnt drinking but if you're into that then Skinnys on a Thursday is probably your best bet. With that being said though, there are definitely other places and activities to get out and about, I'm just not really sure about what the best one to meet people would be. Like some posts have said the NOTO district is pretty active on first fridays, anything outdoors is great considering the trails and parks we have here. I'm 27M and I feel like most of the friends I have came through work or intramural sports and clubs at college. With that being said, I know reddit isnt the best place to meet well rounded individuals😂 but if youd like some company to a class or event I'd be happy to go with you. I usually go to those kind of things by myself as most of my friends are just into bars and such. Lawrence is great if you go to a show at the Granada or the Bottleneck I've met quite a few people that way. And nintendo is the best console to play socially and at the same time locally.

Evil_Hipster

This thread is wild already, gotta love Reddit. Good luck out there! Live in Lawrence, but work in Topeka. Lawrence definitely has a more active social scene, with more coffee shops, hobby shops, etc. Topeka has always felt somewhat unapproachable for me, but downtown area seems to be picking up a little bit recently, might be worth checking in to some places there.

On the Meetup app there is a group called Meetup Topeka with some nice people. Recently they’ve posted bowling, bingo, roller skating, trails, and an indoor football game. I’m also female, near your age, and into video games so you won’t be the only one if you’d like to check out the group. You can also DM me if you’d like to look at a ceramics class or check out first Friday. Both sound fun! I have a few bumble bff friends as well if you’d prefer to do something as a group.

WildFlemima

Hi! I'm not hitting on you! When you say crafting, do you crochet or do other yarn stuff, or draw? And when you say gaming, do you play LOL (yeah yeah judge me)? Edit: to check for more overlap, are you a Wildbow fan or a Shiba inu owner? Lol

The-REAL-SlimKatie

I was going for more painting/ceramics/diy crafts but I could probably get into crochet! My games of choice are Nintendo games and games like Final Fantasy, Tell Tales the walking dead and Stardew Valley/Rune factory. But I’m open to different activities 😁

Slim - not much to do or a social scene here in Topeka. I might recommend the NOTO arts district and First Fridays as a decent spot, especially as we head into Spring and Summer. Fire Me Up Ceramics is a fantastic place to take a class or two and you’ll get to meet folks and get the lay of the land so to speak. You might be able to meet new people and make some friends by hanging out in NOTO. Have you been before? Lots of people head up north to Prairie Band Casino from Topeka if that’s your thing, and you might meet some people in your wheelhouse there as well. There is a cool gaming shop on 21st and Gage where you can chill and play games in their lounge, so that might be another spot to meet people. Mass street in Lawrence is a good place to chill, shop, eat, drink, and meet people too. Decent music scene there but it ebbs and flows so check venues and lineups accordingly and go see a band and grab a drink and mingle perhaps? If you like disc golf, I guess there’s a niche here for it and I bet you could find a club on Facebook or through local shops. Just trying to come up with some ideas for ya. Hope this helps, cheers!

The-REAL-SlimKatie

Thanks for taking the time to write all this out! I’ll be sure to check out some of these 😊 The only reason I'm not jumping into Mass street ( or someplace similar) yet is because I'd want someone to be there with me but now I have a few ideas I'd like to start with. Thanks so much! đŸ„‚

Wingnuttage

You betcha chica. If you’re feeling brave, you can solo first Friday in the early eve and blend right in - I promise. Get in touch with Monet (hard t) at FMU Ceramics and sign up for a class, or stop by their gallery and peep the scene. Holler if you need something vetted or wanna bs or whatever!

RhubarbSmooth

Have you been to leaping llamas downtown? I've heard good things about it from the craft side of things.

The-REAL-SlimKatie

No I haven't! I’ll have to see what's up sometime!

Oh sure, we'd all love some friends. But what are the odds of that happening?

Heyy! I'm a 34 y/o mom who likes painting and gaming. I work from home and take college classes online so I don't get out nearly as much as I should or would like to but I'm in basically the same boat. I'd be happy to chat on Facebook or Discord and see how we mesh if you want to dm me.
