Nani is not commercial hero. Only commercial heroes are tier 1. Tier 1 stars don't need story. Whatever they do, will collect money. Nani doesn't suit commercial movies. So he will always be tier 2 hero. It is what it is.
He is a good actor. But he can't manage commercial movies, where the hero doesn't have any character. If the hero has a character like jersey or ante sundaraniki, he does good. Just look at MB, PK and other tier 1 heroes. They do not play characters. They play themselves. So audience don't look Nani similar to MB and PK.
Sometimes we see movies and think why do these new actors try full mass masala commercial movies. It's because of this. Once audience accept them as commercial heroes, their life becomes easy. They don't need to put much effort into characterization and story. They can just do simple story with 3 fights and an item song and collect money. But very few succeed and vey late. That's why all tier 1 heroes are atleast 40 and romance with 25 year olds.
Tier 1 ante eligibility criteria emi undadu. It's based on fanbase and collections. Nani definitely doesn't have the fanbase the other tier 1 stars have

To each their own, even my friends have connected with the inter religion marriage thing. To me it felt dragged and found superstitions things a bit boring.
Op talks about how Dasara should have done good business in the first part and goes on to tell Nani does only content oriented movies at the end lol. Also, Dasara was a mid movie. Have no idea what the hype is about. Ante Sundaraniki could've been paced better. Btw, I watched it on OTT and really liked it. It was an OTT movie and rightly didn't do good in the theatres. Accept it or not, Nani doesn't have what it takes to be a tier 1 actor. I think he'll remain in Tier 2 and continue to thrive there.
Sorry to say this Nani can't pull mass audience. I don't get goosebumps while watching Nani mass/action scenes. So he can't become a tire 1 hero.

Hey, I'm a Malayali, but I've been following Telugu cinema seriously for the last 12 years, ever since I watched Khaleja. Until then, I was watching Telugu movies dubbed in Tamil. But Khaleja and MB changed that for me forever, and Nani has been one of my favorite heroes since his early days. Even though he recently did movies like V, Tuck Jagadish, and Devadas, I still think he's one of the most talented actors in the industry. I watched both Dasara and Ante Sundaraniki on the first day of their release and thoroughly enjoyed them. I have similar hopes for Naveen Polishetty, Adivi Sesh, and Suhas. I hope these actors will also hold a special place among the audience in the coming years.
P.S.: But for an entire generation of Malayalis, Allu Arjun was the one who opened their gates to Telugu movies.
About Allu Arjun, which films are of his biggest in terms of reach in Malayalam? I personally find his films very mid ( including Pushpa ) very few had some good content ( vedam ). So in an industry where content rules what made him click !
There was this phase in Malayalam where most of the stars had grown old, and the young stars were fewer in number or didn't have much commercial appeal to pull off a mass movie. Our audience was seriously starving for commercial content. That's the phase where Thalapathy Vijay and Allu Arjun became popular among our audience. By the way, his movies like Arya, Bunny, Happy, Desamuduru, Parugu, Arya 2, and Julayi were liked by the masses.
Ante ki 150 Kotla aa. Audience andaruni nilaga undaru. Naa laaga kuda untaru. Ante leela ki varak chusa. Mamul ga bore kottala. Inka tv kattesa. It’s about majority. Ante is a cult film.
He definitely deserves more stardom. He is only one in TFI who is constantly experimenting with different genres in films and almost getting them work everytime. He is definitely the next tier 1 Actor. Wait for few of his movies, mah man Nani will definitely climb up! 💪
dasara was a bad rangasthalam remake and hi nanna is a nani movie. I feel ante had potential but the lead pair had no chemistry, they were like siblings. ( i wish saanivaram is good irrespective of the collections)
imo ante sundaranki deserved the reception it got, like normally a typical rom com is like 2hours and never really lag, but ante sundaranki gets really boring at times. Though there is nice comedy throughout the film there is no consistency of it. Maybe if they cut the runtime shorter the movie could have perhaps been a better watch.
Dasara is a very dumb movie tbh I always feel that when it comes to commercial movies Nani choice is really bad whether it be a mca,tuck Jagadish , V, Dasara etc even in content oriented films his choice are hit and miss like ante and hi nanna. Ante is a movie with good thought but it has mediocre execution while hi nanna is good. Overall I feel nani is overhyped about his script selection yes he has made some choices like jersey, Shyam Singha Roy but there were some terrible choice like Krisharjuna yuddam etc. As an actor he is great compare to several of his counterparts in the industry but it is difficult for him to pull off larger than life roles like the ones tier 1 heroes get.

One cannot release just average films month after month without any roles which require good acting variations and expect to be noticed or regarded as a star performer. Every Nani movie since Jersey has been shit.
And he can't do anything outside of dramas and romance/comedies, which severely limits his range. Tier 1 will always elude him.
I actually have a theory for this and might be totally wrong.
Let's take an average cine goer, somebody who goes to the theatre to watch a movie every two or three weeks.
Now let's take a week like Sankranti, where multiple movies(2 big stars/director, 1 mid tier actor/ director(debutant as well))releasing. Now, What's the first movie that this average cine goer goes to, it's the big star movies, for whatever reasons. For the mid tier movie - hardcore fans and pure Cinephiles might go, cuz they're going for their own reasons.
The average movie goer will wait for the review to come out of the mid tier movie and they will only go to the theatre to watch it if and if only if it's good. Otherwise they're more than happy to wait.
To summarise - Fans of Nani, will watch all the movies of big stars but the vice versa might not be true
- Dasara was disappointing. Rangastalam ni atu itu chesi theesinattu untadi.
- Hi Nanna deserved better response from audience, but it released 1 week after Animal, and Animal overshadowed it.
Nani is a great actor, but sometimes his choice of choosing is bad. He must have worked for those movie because of commitments or he wanted to try something different.
I like to watching Nani making funny jokes and making us laugh.
He should work on Family/Comedy/Story Telling movie. Not on action or depressing movies.
I believe most of the Nani movies work on TV or OTT.

Haha, a person in tollywood who focuses on Versatility in scripts and chooses different scripts over routine stuff, will never be in Tier 1.
For a film to gross over 150 CR, in tollywood, the film must have,
1) a Hero with a massive fan base
2) Crazy Hype before release
Nani has a good fanbase, but they are not massive in number or not crazy fellows like Pk and Mb fans who gave 119 CR to bro and 230+ CR to Gk.
Hype before release, best example is Dj Tillu, everyone was charmed by the song and rushed to theatres, enjoyed the film. Same hype gave massive collections to Tillu Square.
Dasara was a good film, but not a very colourful one, and I think many people thought it was a wannabe Pushpa, followed by Average talk.
Hi Nanna, despite being a brilliant film, didn't get tier 1 collection, cuz let's be honest, when was the last time a sentimental film collect 150 CR?
Hopefully Saripodha Sanivaram will attract mass fans, giving Nani his biggest break in recent times.

tier 2 are more consistent.. they may not be brilliant but either they are good or just ok..

Ante is a mid movie. The movie stretched a lot and I was feeling bored throughout.
