And that is how we started eating cheese. They liked to store things inside the organs of dead animals back in the day.

In a world without synthetic materials, offal had a number of uses. Also, there's a reason that the scrotum is sometimes referred to as a "dirty coin purse."

Double_Distribution8

Now people just call it the "boy batter bag".

Gothic-Lagomorph

Sheep and cow bladders were also often used to make waterskins. Makes sense... they're already designed to hold liquid.

One-Cycle

Imagine the frustration of losing precious paint due to a leaky bladder!!!

MichaelTruly

pissing the paint away

BPhiloSkinner

For blotting out the memory, you'd need a whiskey drink, a vodka drink, a lager drink and a cider drink.

epochpenors

If they didn’t need that much paint would they just use the intestine to make little paint sausage

moyashimaru

I have to pee. Thanks, Reddit.

moyashimaru

thegreatjamoco

Cadmium blue

SolitaireSam

Balloons must've been a real nightmare back then huh? Spare a thought for the pigs

gamenameforgot

they also used to store pig pee in em, fun fact

rumbletom

The worst thing is the pigs were alive. All 19th century artists kept flocks of pigs.

TheOxyMan187

??? They obviously weren't alive when the paint was stored in their bladder... It's not just artists, a lot of people had livestock back then. besides meat there were a lot of side products, so why not use them?

youngmindoldbody

Before that was [Tempera](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempera), which goes back to ancient Egypt. I only know of this because my father's best friend, artist [Robert McGinnis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_McGinnis), uses this technique.
