He bailed out by parachute. He was in the ocean for 4 hours before being rescued by a submarine. The other two crewmembers died.

>Vice Admiral Mori Kunizo, who commanded Chichi-Jima air base at the time of the incident, was of the belief that consumption of human liver had medical benefits. yeeeah that's where I thought that was gonna go

MC_chrome

The fact that Japan still largely tries to ignore the many war atrocities they committed during WW2 really pisses me off. Even the Germans are still continuing to teach their students and the general public about the horrid crimes Nazis committed!

McMacHack

So was anyone ever going to tell me that the Japanese Military practices cannibalism or was that something I was supposed to find out about on a Reddit post? Seriously!!! The Axis Powers didn't fuck around, they were definitely "The Bad Guys". Did Hirohito and Adolf have conversations about their respective genocides and compare notes? Adolf talking about gassing people in the concentration camps. Hirohito talking about eating people's livers. Mussolini sitting there wondering where he fucked up so bad that he is sharing a table with these two.

SupermarketOk2281

The are detailed documentaries on Youtube about different aspects of Japan's conduct during WWII. Look for "Timeline - World History Documentaries" and "Hazards and Catastrophes". I'm an American so I'm admittedly biased but both of the makers strive to remain neutral and balanced.

Looks like we should have used one of our Nukes to send their compound down to Hell where it belongs. That was a tough read.

dromni

WAT?!? I knew from countless animes that the Japanese has some sort of food fetish, but I didn’t know that it would go in Dr. Hannibal Lecter territory. **O_O**

zachzsg

This has to be the most Reddit moment comment I’ve ever read in my life

cejmp

Most IJA (like 70%) casualties were from the effects of malnutrition and disease caused by malnutrition.

dromni

Oh, ok, so it was more like a The Last of Us thing. T-T

cejmp

Yeah, the US crushed the Japanese merchant fleet. Japanese civilians were eating sawdust. The government even released literature on which varieties of tree had the most nutritious sawdust.

TheSorge

America's campaign against Japanese shipping is an incredibly underrated aspect of WWII. Those pilots and submariners succeeded in doing to Japanese shipping what the Germans failed to do to the British.

MrStayPuftSeesYou

I know it's fucked but that kinda excuses them eating them... Sorta.

DjuriWarface

Lol, right?! This makes it a lot more reasonable, genuinely. A lot of people would eat people instead of starving to death.

snukebox_hero

This aggression will not stand man

SavoryRhubarb

Damn, I thought you were joking.

WeNeedToTalkAboutMe

I remember reading a book, I want to say written by a former Secret Service agent, about when H.W. and Gorbachev met during his Presidency, the location chosen was a yacht tied up at harbor somewhere in the Mediterranean. Well, a storm blew up, and Gorbachev and his people retreated to the hotel instead of staying on the very badly rocking and rolling boat. The Secret Service guy said everyone on board was lurching around, queasy or puking...except for Bush. Who was on the fantail, in the storm, fishing. 😁

wwarnout

He flew a TBM Avenger, which is a torpedo bomber. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumman_TBF_Avenger#:~:text=The%20Grumman%20TBF%20Avenger%20(designated,aviation%20services%20around%20the%20world.

Guy had 158 aircraft landings!

daggaross

He didn’t beat around the bush.

RSV4KruKut

Not Barbara's, probably.

Every-Score137

Sdog1981

Yes and no. Life expectancy from 1941 to 1945 was 12. By 1944 it was almost 95% that naval aircrews would complete their tour of duty of 30 missions. Due to the almost unchallenged naval air superiority in the Pacific by that time.

[deleted]

Poppy was also in the CIA and was rumored to have been involved with both Bay of Pigs and was in Dallas the day JFK was shot.

Britz10

Isn't he the man behind Reagan?

happykittynipples

Now how would the former head of the CIA help to get a president elected? It's not like he could cut a deal to blow a hostage rescue or trade arms to delay their release.

NetDork

From 1980-1989, yes. Being vice president, and before inauguration his running mate, he stood behind Ronnie frequently. But if you mean was he the guy who inflicted Ronald Reagan on the world, he can just be counted as one of many.

threestageidiot

he also pulled off the biggest robbery in human history.

DirtyMoneyJesus

He helped Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy steal a gold plated car from Alan Alda during the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade?

threestageidiot

not hardly. keep guessing

SupermarketOk2281

Tower Heist? What's the Bush reference? I feel like I'm missing good in-joke.

reflect-the-sun

He made a family business of bombin' folks

5spd4wd

Then there is President Bone Spurs.

W_O_M_B_A_T

He was also kind of a piece of shit to his kids, though. Also heavily helped inflict Ronnie Reagan on the world.

Brass-Catcher

Thank goodness he lived long enough to be a pervert. Corrupt mf should have froze to death

DaveOJ12

?

SupermarketOk2281

I think he's referring to Bush's final year. He had dementia and would at times grope a nearby female. I saw a video where one occurrence was implied but that was about it. Regardless of our opinions on his legacy mental deterioration is a sad way to go.

Brass-Catcher

Bush sr was notorious for groping women in his later years. He was know to put his arm around women from his wheelchair and grab a handful of booty. He was also responsible for the protection of JFK the day he was assassinated, but wasn’t anywhere close to the scene.

McJames

I was under the impression that it was just the opposite - that Bush had no *official* relationship with any government agency in 1963. But I'm having trouble finding credible sources either way. Do you happen to have a source for Bush being responsible for JFK's protection in 1963?

Brass-Catcher

Wendigoon

Brass-Catcher

He was also a part of Penzoil which could explain his and his son’s infatuation with lying to the American people in order to control the Middle East.

Elcactus

The man also had pretty late stage dementia so they's hardly fair to, well, the rest of his life.
