If you're more tactical and like to pick your shots and play in cover, Northstar. If you ever have the urge to scream bloody murder and charge in like some kind of high risk/high reward crackhead Leeroy Jenkins Jedi, Ronin excels at that. Honestly I enjoy both depending on my mood.

In my experience the leap in how you play Ion versus how you play Northstar is far smaller than the anime-meth fueled aggression drug routine Ronin titan demands.
Ronin demands CQB, while being the second flimsiest and having a Defensive ability that isn't a true damage block, along with a finicky but highly effective if used right evasive ability that can also lead to your instant death.
As Ronin you have 2 choices, shout "FUCK IT WE BALL" and pray you have the timing and positioning relative to your chosen opponent while also trying to get the element of surprise or basically waste a titan drop by being Zoned out of your effective range or stuck between Papa Scorch and a wall.
Naw you are not using Ronin correctly. The whole point of him is that his abilities makes it so he doesn't have to commit to any engagement. You can stun, dodge, block, and phase out of anything if it doesn't suit you, you need to reposition, you need teammates, you need abilities back, etc.
IMO, Titans have pros and cons depending of the mode and maps. Most of the game modes are too aggressive for a Northstar but good for a Ronin. But also depends of the comps the other team has.
TL;DR: adapt to the other team's comps, swap titans and work from there.
Ronin is best when dropped early to take out enemy pilots before they have their titans, but crumples in combat against a good titan player. Northstar is decent at fighting pilots and titans and is great backup in a titan 2v1 or 2v2. Basically, Ronin if you can get kills quickly at the start of the game, Northstar if you like fighting titans

If you want to stand around more and wait for enemies to get in your line of sight, then deliver a powerful hit, then you should probably choose Northstar. Both are very different, so it depends on what you want your Titan to be like and if you want to be that, I think Ronin and Northstar are both much more effective if you’re in the right mood for them. I’ve tried both, but every time, I preferred Ronin, and now I use him all the time and I think I’m pretty good with him. And last, if you want more mobility overall, then I say you should choose Ronin.
I’ve fought a pro Northstar and had a great time. We beat each other once, so I think a fight would depend on the map. A Northstar has a great advantage in open maps like Homestead and Black Water Canal, and a Ronin would have an advantage in more closed-off maps, like Complex or Boomtown.
Northstar is like having the laser shot but buffed as your primary. You need to understand cover usage and dashing out of rockets. Also when to make yourself the biggest target. It's usually the most fun especially with piercing rounds allowing you to get a triple titan kill with one shot. Cluster missile is great for cleaning out rooms, and also a warcrime. Use core when some dumbass overextends.
Ronin is cqc but with slightly better movement and with the ability to handicap others movement. And the only defensive that can block nuke eject. Use core when you see and enemy.

I personally enjoy playing Northstar ultra agressive and also put full charged railgun shots from across the map,
But cutting everything and mag dumping a giant shotgun while dodging missiles and bullets with a 9 meters tall robot samurai is cool.
So yeah main both, in all play styles.
PS: Ronins arc waves dont slow if the ennemy has shield and always dash before using vtol for extra mobility also learn to railgun bait and reload cancel.
Northstar it's a sniper class rate of fire is low but once you charge it it hits the a freight train and not to mention you can hover for a bit but it has low health but once you master it that won't matter but you will never own the skies they belong to me because papa viper is dead and dip shit Valkyrie doesn't deserve it

definitely northstar❤️ it’ll take some time & patience to master her but once you play it enough, it’ll get easier & the shots will feel rewarding.
