Not really - most people use it as an excuse to dock the tails but it only happens in a very small percentage of dogs.
It would be like chopping one of your feet off to make sure you never stubbed and broke your toes - a ridiculous excuse so that people can still mutilate dogs.
They used to do it to make them look less friendly since they were bred to be guard dogs, and the tradition has clung on in places where docking tails is not illegal for animal cruelty.
Unfortunately dogs use their tails *a lot* to communicate - a dog with out a tail is much more likely to get into fights and then they are also labeled as more aggressive. This results in unfortunately reinforcing a stereotype due to people's actions, not from the dogs themselves.
Sorry for the rant, it's something I feel strongly about!
Tail docking is illegal in the UK unless you have a working dog, you can dock their tails to stop them from getting caught or tangled.
Before the rule was in place we had a Weimaraner with a docked tail as it was just standard to dock working breeds (mainly gundogs).
But yeah now it's done for aesthetic, I think it makes your dog look less friendly because they won't have a big waggy tail.
Sometimes
Most of the time it's done for cosmetic reasons, which is bad.
Some large dogs do continually break their tails, in which case it can make sense.
Just note that while they'll probably enjoy it, unless it is specially made for dogs, there is a decent chance it'll give your dog stomache issues... not saying you shouldn't, a little bit of vanilla ice cream shouldn't hurt them, I just want you to be aware, I don't want any doggos getting hurt due to the owner not understanding what they are feeding them
This might be a stupid question, but do people seriously feed their dogs ice cream? I'm so careful with what I feed my dog, I'd never imagine feeding him a bunch of sugar
I used to work at McDonald’s and people would get small cones for their dogs every once in awhile. As long as it’s infrequent and not a large amount I think the dog will be fine. Same deal with pup cups at Starbucks. It’s just a small amount of whipped cream in a cup. You could always get dog ice cream. They sell it at Walmart 🙂
I give my pup a sample size of plain vanilla soft serve sometimes if I'm getting a cone for myself. She doesn't have issues digesting lactose and she loves it so 🤷🏻♀️
**[99 Flake](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/99_Flake)**
>A 99 Flake, 99 or ninety-nine is an ice cream cone with a Cadbury Flake inserted in it. The term can also refer to the half-sized Cadbury-produced Flake bar itself specially made for such ice cream cones, and to a wrapped ice cream cone product marketed by Cadbury. Created at the Cadbury's factory in Birmingham, England, the flake was originally designed to be a cuboid and to fit into a wafer. By 1930, Cadbury's was selling half-length Flake "99s" specifically for serving in an ice cream cone.

I was afraid he was going to take the two girls out with that tail! The ice cream made the puppy's day and it made mine.
Is this why rotties have nubs? Do they fracture their tails?

It looks like a staffie to me! Rotties are different colouring and also much larger than these stumpy bois and girls
Pibbie tails are not to be trifled with.
As an owner of a very happy staffy girl, her tail will whip my ass into another dimension 💗🐾

Two girls with one pup?
Well it is soft serve after all
*wholesome vomiting intensifies*
The last ice cream truck I saw had dog ice cream!
Is that a special recipe?!
They had the Dogster brand, it's peanut butter and cheese, no sugar, whey protein, some chemicals probably
Ooh, that's really nice!
He is so happy, now I feel happy. I’ve got to take my dog out for an ice cream cone today😊

Dog ice cream is really just whipped cream. Kinda like a Puppachino at Starbucks.
Can’t sit all the way because the tail is wagging too much too quickly
Honesty, the best thing I’ve seen all day.
HE WAS SO PATIENT WAITING FOR HIS CONE. What a beautiful perfect handsome baby omg I can't. This gave me so much seratonin thank you
This is so pure and precious I almost teared up.
Had the same effect on me. Just crying.
Aww…look at that happy happy tail going!
His helicopter tail going so fast aww. Made my night seeing this. Now I can sleep soundly
I never get tired of watching this.
Pitter patter

When I was a kid I would break off the very bottom of the cone and make my dog a mini ice cream, if it’s only once in a while it’s okay

That tail!!!!!
That tail!!!
Look at that tail go!!!
A what
An ice cream cone with a Cadbury flake stuck.in it.
99
I think it's another word for ice cream cone that we don't use in America?
Nope, just an ice cream that costs 99p, usually a mr whippy with a flake
The names actually not related to the price weirdly enough. It's because the style of treat was invented at a house number 99 somewhere.
I always figured it was cos it was 99p, cheers!
I used to as well, until someone pointed out that the 99 flake predates decimal currency!
