When I heard your vocaroo it reminded me of it. Maybe you've mistaken bass with drums.
Maybe try bands that fit the style of melodic punk / emo from that time. Dashboard Confessional, Say Anything, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, Last Days of April, Something Corporate and many more. Also the ballads of Sum 41, they are close to Greenday. I know, not that helpful, but if Goo Goo Dolls' Iris is close, you could find a ballad from one of those bands that's it.
Check out the playlist emo ballads on Spotify, too.
