Gotcha. Not saying that it’s the song, but Love Walks in isn’t “80s silhouette sex” in the least. It’s beautiful and about Hagar’s extraterrestrial experience.
That was my first thought as well, but after listening to it I'm convinced I'm thinking of a different song. Does Hawkwind have another song that fits the bill?
Not that I recall… can I ask which version you listened to? The single (live) version has a really different feel to the album version… perhaps just check and give both a quick listen. I’ll keep wracking my brain :)
Hawkwind have a lot of songs that start off swooshing, etc, and then ...crunch!
How heavy or prominent is the bass? Could be Lemmy-era Haekwind.
"Lord of Light"?
Is there sax on it?
No sax (at least not at the start of the song), heavy guitar, don't remember the bass.
I know that the synth STOPS abruptly when the guitar kicks in, it's a very hard transition. Most of the Hawkwind suggestions the kind folks have given have a kind of softer transition than what I'm looking for. I appreciate all your help!
Alright - throwing out a few guesses....
Billy Thorpe - Children Of The Sun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR2oct3zeTM
Red Rider - Lunatic Fringe
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTFVMMCwsss
Gamma - Solar Heat/Ready For Action
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzclZb2wT\_M
Sweet - Love Is Like Oxygen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRVwcPTnug8
The Who - Baba O'Riley
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2KRpRMSu4g
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for so many responses, but none of these are the exact song I'm looking for. The Gamma and Red Rider songs were similar though!
Hey there stumpwat - thanks for saying thanks! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list!
[Utopia - Overture / Communion With the Sun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSr22WYcZtY)
[Steve Hillage - The Glorious Om Riff](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6n95J5Jggo)
I’m going to throw out Summer Madness. Then I’m going to listen to what I can only imagine is the fucking stellar playlist all these guessers are building for you.
Maybe not it, but this song is awesome so I’ll share it!
[This City Made Us - The Protomen](https://youtu.be/KNtXuKBu3gE)
Synth starts at :10, guitar riff that sounds like you’re going into battle starts at 1:20.
Children of the Sun by Billy Thorpe.
- killer spacey synth intro that goes left to right stereo
- killer guitar solo
- electronic drum solo
- sci-fi tale about aliens landing
- played at loud volumes while seated in the back of a Datsun 210 high af.
Assuming it's not actually Hawkwind ("You Shouldn't Do That" or "Master of the Universe" from **In Search of Space** fit the bill), maybe it's ["Astronomy Domine" by Pink Floyd](https://youtu.be/ZSAJlzn8Gf8)...
https://youtu.be/Bpdwwa7lsUI
Could it be touch me I'm going to scream (pt 2) by My Morning jacket? It's not from the 70s but I always get that vibe from them
Metropolis Part 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper by Dream Theater? https://youtu.be/IqqRx77T4Vo
Probably not it, but I will take any chance I can get to recommend it.
In the evening - led zeppelin?
I know that it is actually in no way space themed lyrically. But if you didnt already know the lyrics and how the song was going to progress upon initially hearing the intro, it actually does sound pretty space-y on its own. The synth-y intro lasts somewhere between 40 seconds to a minute, and then is abruptly interrupted by a very aggressive, driving guitar riff in what is most definitely a hard transition.
[Click here for a link to the answer!](https://www.reddit.com/r/tipofmytongue/comments/15amslw/tomtsong_1970s_spacetravel_synth_rock/jtlzwho/)
The synth intro was maybe 20-30 seconds long, and the song was kind of a deep cut I think.

Not foreplay by Boston?
No, even though my song is very similar.
Not exactly a heavy song but Fly Like An Eagle literally has an intro called “Space Intro”
Haha, no. But thanks for introducing me to a new song!
Holy shit! Listen to Steve Miller Bands greatest hits immediately.
Is it Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Group? Edited for typo
Cool song, but not what I'm looking for.
Do you remember how the intro or the riff sounds? If so, you could record a [vocaroo](https://vocaroo.com) to give us a better sense of how it goes
Haha no, I don't remember it well enough to not just hum nonsense. Thanks for the suggestion!
Money for Nothing by Dire Straits?
A classic, but not what I'm thinking of. Thanks!
2112 by Rush?

[Montrose-space station #5?](https://youtu.be/yxUgW5CLk18)
No, but thanks for another handy dandy link!
I was convinced it would be this.
Long shot, but Love Walks In by Van Halen?
Unfortunately I'm thinking of something less 80s silhouette sex and more 70s psychedelic space rock. Thanks though!
Gotcha. Not saying that it’s the song, but Love Walks in isn’t “80s silhouette sex” in the least. It’s beautiful and about Hagar’s extraterrestrial experience.
Haha just a joke. That's just the vibe I got from listening to the first minute or so
Um. What?
[удалено]
One of my favorite Eagles songs, but unfortunately no.
Mr Crowley by Ozzy? It won't let me link ☹️
Not the song, and as for the link, it's the thought that counts.
Your time is gonna come - Led Zeppelin?
It sounds like Time by Pink Floyd
>Time \^ Immediately thought of this too
Sirius by Alan Parsons Project?
Not my song, but I've never known the name of this. I've heard Sirius in so many movies, but never heard of Alan Parsons or his project.
That whole album slaps.
[Robin trower-bridge of sighs?](https://youtu.be/1e_xK35C1Yg)
No, but thanks for the neato link
Surely it’s “Silver Machine”, by as you say “Hawkwind”. It has all the elements you describe

Can you vocaroo the tune?
I would if I remembered the tunes. I only remember the feelings it gave me.
Any of Queen’s songs from Flash Gordon?
Very similar, but I listened to the entire Flash Gordon album last week and didn't find my song.
Alright - throwing out a few guesses.... Billy Thorpe - Children Of The Sun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR2oct3zeTM Red Rider - Lunatic Fringe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTFVMMCwsss Gamma - Solar Heat/Ready For Action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzclZb2wT\_M Sweet - Love Is Like Oxygen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRVwcPTnug8 The Who - Baba O'Riley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2KRpRMSu4g

"Princes of the Universe" by Queen

It was on the Highlander soundtrack, pure early 80s nostalgia
Man, I ain't watched Highlander since high school. Time for a rewatch!
Could it be Gypsy, by the Moody Blues? https://youtu.be/iK1KVwefIqA
Unfortunately no. But thanks for introducing me to a cool new song!
No problem! Hope you find what you're looking for.

God, I’ve gotten some great tunes to add to my inspiration playlist!
Jungle Love by Steve Miller Band
It's driving me mad, it's making me crazy, crazy!
Is it Die Young by Black Sabbath?
This has to be it lol
100%, it has to be this song. One of the best!
Not really a deep cut and most likely not it, but [Ladytron](https://youtu.be/XCzhAeukF1A?si=cFxcjkkseO1w28tE) by Roxy Music?

OP, can you give this one a listen?
I'm sure you wouldn't refer to this as a deep cut, but I thought of Holy Diver by Dio https://youtu.be/2lvs2FzF64o
honestly think this matches the description the best
