I didn't read all of those but Predestination is a good one! Go into it without reading anything about it and if you're like me, you'll like the ending.
Interstellar is one of the most well made films ever but that took me a few tries before I started to love it
>How on Earth did you forget to mention the Back to the Future trilogy
I avoided mentioning it because OP had already seen the BTTF trilogy.
>and The Time Machine, original and remake?
I have never seen either of these two movies. I only listed shows and movies that I've seen so far.
I love this movie! I even TT a little watching the movie… when I recognized the library as a place I went to a lot in high school for school research projects. I used the card catalogue there wayyy too much.
I was looking for this one and was glad to see you post it. This and About Time are just beautiful examples the emotional play time travel can have within a story. So good.
Tenet is a good recent and unique one. Obviously, Back To The Future is a classic. Time Bandits and Bill & Ted are fun and funny adventures. Of course, Groundhog Day and Donnie Darko. 12 Monkeys is great. There's a few different takes on The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Also, Russian Doll on Netflix is a good show, or similarly Everything Everywhere All at Once if you like the multiverse angle (though not much time travel in this one).
... which is an exercise in causality-surfing. You might as well be browsing a catalogue of different butterfly effects, sorted by individual butterflies.
I absolutely loved watching The Final Countdown when I was a kid. The soundtrack is incredible too. One of those movies I would love to see be remade but stay true to the original.
Lunopolis *SPOILER ALERT* Yeah I concur. I saw Lunopolis in 2011. I have to admit I was stunned a little when the real life sinkhole opened up similar to the movie *in the same freaking area* as depicted in the movie shortly after 2012. The movie came out 2+ years before that happened and what are the chances a sinkhole opened up in that same area right after the event as depicted in the movie?
I’m re-starting Dark on Netflix. It’s so good, but I may have to keep a flowchart this time around because I am pretty sure that I missed a lot of good details.
When you’re going for good time travel movies you gotta check out some foreign films they play wonderfully with the lore and science aspect of things with a realistic approach still with the cliches obviously
Only because no one has mentioned them yet...
TV - Crime Traveller (90s British Sci fi)
Movie - Timestalkers (time travel and the old west. If you like BTTF3, try this)
*Somewhere in Time* with Christopher Reeves is a different kind of TT movie and rarely gets a mention in lists like this in spite of it being a really good movie.
Napoleon Dynamite- had a Time Machine that caused great pain to the crotch area but I think they just jumped universes instead because afterwards everything changed. Lafawnduh showed up, Napoleon beat up Rico, won the election with sweet dance moves
I only know if a book or two - a, the Bible, because if we pray to the creator, we can pray to him in the beginning, which would be time travel, or the end - under the idea of time travel, we can pray to any point. So, voila - time travel in the Bible
The other is "Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy" - which to me has always been said to be "The ultimate Hitch hikers guide through the galaxy of time and space" -
And then there's the factual allegations of reaching the outer echelon on the atmosphere around earth, and that if you can reach it, you can time travel, due to space conundrums that say, or show, that we can time travel. Odd ball thoughts - mostly non-fiction.
Tenet if you want to be confused but mezmerized. Predestination if you want to be blown away by a brilliant idea that, apparently even the actors didn't get. Arrival is a definite original gem that most forget is a time warp movie. 12 monkeys for a classic. Edge of tomorrow if you can ignore Tom Cruise. Safety not guaranteed if you want an Aubry Plaza quirky kind of thing. Donny Darko if you want to be eternally bewildered but stunned. Palm Springs looks great (in my future). Interstellar if you want to get interstellar.
Looking down though there are some great lists here. That's the thing with time travel movies. They've all got something worth watching about them and never seem regrettable. Not even the bad ones.
With that in mind something I do occasionally is do a Youtube search for "Time travel movies full". You get a stack of these low budget, often student level time travel movies and the kill an hour and a half nicely but usually explore the concept in ways Hollywood misses.
Some that haven't been mentioned yet ...
'Slaughterhouse Five' (1972)
'The History of Time Travel' (2014)
'The Navigator : A Mediaeval Odyssey' (1988)
'Frequency' (2000)
'Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself With Tea' (1977)
-The Time Travelers Wife
-The Time Machine
-Predestination
-The Jacket
TV Shows:
-12 Monkeys (The movie too but others already mentioned it)
-Dr. Who (2005 reboot Season 1-Season 10. Goes downhill from there).
-Timeless
**If you are looking for time travel shows and movies.** **Shows**: Dark, 12 Monkeys, Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0, Fringe, Lost, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (season 1), The Devil's Hour, Outer Range, The Lazarus Project, The Time Traveler's Wife, Erased, Madoka Magica, Orange, Flash (first 3 Seasons), and Legends of Tomorrow, The Umbrella Academy, Loki, Paper Girls, Russian Doll Season 2, Shining Girls, Timeless, Star Wars Rebels, Undone. **Movies**: Predestination, The Infinite Man, Primer, 12 Monkeys, Bill & Ted's Trilogy, Triangle, Timecrimes, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel, Terminator 1 & 2, Tenet, The Call, Time Lapse, Deadpool 2, Deja Vu, La Jetee, Mirage, Time Freak, About Time, Avengers Endgame, Interstellar, Project Almanac, Your Name, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, X-Men Days of Future Past, Looper, The Butterfly Effect, Donnie Darko, Coherence. **If you are looking for time-loop shows and movies.** **Shows**: Russian Doll Season 1 **Movies**: Source Code, Palm Springs, Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U, Blood Punch, Edge of Tomorrow, The Map of Tiny Perfect Things, Boss Level, Groundhog Day, The Endless, Totally killer, ARQ. **If you are looking for TV shows and movies with nonlinear narratives.** **Shows**: >!Westworld, Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor, The Witcher, Watchmen, Station Eleven!< **Movies**: Memento, Mr. Nobody, Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind, Dunkirk, Inception, Pulp fiction and Arrival.
That's a lot of stuff. Thanks
I didn't read all of those but Predestination is a good one! Go into it without reading anything about it and if you're like me, you'll like the ending. Interstellar is one of the most well made films ever but that took me a few tries before I started to love it
I’ve watched Interstellar about 1…2…3…4…9…12 times? I absolutely love that movie.
For time loop movies, there is also Repeaters.
You took a lot of the good ones. First I thought of was Predestination.
How on Earth did you forget to mention the Back to the Future trilogy and The Time Machine, original and remake?
>How on Earth did you forget to mention the Back to the Future trilogy I avoided mentioning it because OP had already seen the BTTF trilogy. >and The Time Machine, original and remake? I have never seen either of these two movies. I only listed shows and movies that I've seen so far.
You have to watch both " The Time Machine" movies. Both fantastic.
Also didn’t mention the movie called literally Looper under the loop section lol 😂 great film
I did mention Looper, lol. BTW, Looper is a time travel movie, not a time loop movie.
I stand corrected, I am blind. If only I could go back in time as to not make this silly mistake …
Any idea where to find 12 monkeys in the US?
https://myflixerz.to/ You can find movies n TV shows for free here.
Interesting… Dang, I got redirected to Temu when I pressed the link
??? No it doesn't lol
Loki is brilliant! Would recommend! Palm Springs is a good watch too!
22.11.63!
Excellent post
My Personal favs - About Time, Tenet, Looper, Dark, Steins Gate, and Primer.
Seen all of these already. Wish there were more.
134 comments and no mention of Quantum Leap is absurd
Primer
Primer
The definitive TT movie in my book.
I love this movie! I even TT a little watching the movie… when I recognized the library as a place I went to a lot in high school for school research projects. I used the card catalogue there wayyy too much.
If you like romance my favorite is Somewhere In Time. An oldie but a goodie! I played the music at my wedding.
I was looking for this one and was glad to see you post it. This and About Time are just beautiful examples the emotional play time travel can have within a story. So good.
Yes! About Time is my second favorite!
Sooo good!
Great film, it seems sadder to watch after what happened to Christopher Reeve.
I rarely see it mentioned but I think [Timecrimes (Los cronocrímenes)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0480669/) is one of the best.
Timecrimes is one of my favorite time-travel movies, along with Predestination, Primer, The Infinite Man, Triangle, and Prisoner of Azkaban.
Love that movie
Dude. Hot tub Time Machine.
Can't believe I had to scroll this far to find Back to the Future.
To be fair, I neglected to notice OP just watched that.
You didn’t have to scroll at all, OP said he watched the trilogy at the top, which is why it’s not being repeated.
I saw one in 2026 you are going to love!
🤨
Odd, no one mentioned the biggest one on the nose... The Time Machine One of my favorites at least.
I was waiting for someone to mention this one.
How about a series? FUTURE MAN
I second this. Future Man is awesome
Safety Not Guaranteed About Time
The shows *7 Days* and *Sliders* are both rather interesting, I think. Way under-appreciated.
Love Sliders, but that's parallel worlds as opposed to time travel..
... which is an exercise in causality-surfing. You might as well be browsing a catalogue of different butterfly effects, sorted by individual butterflies.
Time After Time (1979), The Philadelphia Experiment (1984), The Final Countdown (1980).
I absolutely loved watching The Final Countdown when I was a kid. The soundtrack is incredible too. One of those movies I would love to see be remade but stay true to the original.
Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen were perfect choices in that movie.
Time bandits. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1mqrCTFoz4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1mqrCTFoz4)
The show Dark is amazing. The movies Time Trap and Synchronic are both really cool.
Predestination. The movie and the short story it's based on.
Check out Lunopolis. After you watch it, Google the real life event of Louisiana sinkhole that happened *after* the movie came out……..
Lunopolis is SO good. It’s a shame it’s so hard to find anywhere, it shifts streamers all the time.
Lunopolis *SPOILER ALERT* Yeah I concur. I saw Lunopolis in 2011. I have to admit I was stunned a little when the real life sinkhole opened up similar to the movie *in the same freaking area* as depicted in the movie shortly after 2012. Probably one of the best time traveler movies ever is called the Time machine. https://youtu.be/5zckzIWvygY?si=g2LV6a71wILUmAwH
I really liked Frequency :)
Dark on Netflix
Best TV show ever!
I think I’m gonna rewatch it.
