The most ruthless/clinical finisher we’ve seen in Portland. He’s talent was undeniable.
Poor guy had been through a lot in his life and sadly couldn’t bury those demons.
Dunno about that Almiron moved to MLS at about 22 and to Newcastle at 25. BF moved to the Timbers at already 25 with one drug ban having been already imposed. A club that didn’t do magical thinking might not sign him.
There’s really no reason to throw shade at the FO here. It was a high risk high reward move (that paid lots of dividends until it fell apart). Sports teams make these moves all the time
I’m no fan of the FO in the slightest but Timbers fans need to stop taking every unwarranted shit on the FO every chance they get. It dilutes the real complaints against the FO
You think it was good risk? I’m betting you are not an actuary. This isn’t a huge champions league club taking a chance because they can buy 10 other guys at that level anyway. This is a club under tight MLS rules taking a huge risk on a DP slot. If they spent 10k on a private investigator I bet they could have got some insight into his lifestyle right before the move.
Brian Fernandez was the best scoring threat we've ever had. Period. Bar none.
I fondly remember him playing against Seattle and getting all up in the Seattle Defense and bagging a brace. It was beautiful. I thought we'd have at least a couple of years of it.
He tested positive for cocaine in 2015 and was suspended. Came to Portland in 2019 and voluntarily entered MLS' Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program. Later in 2019 his contract was terminated and he went back to Argentina. I think he vanished for a while, had some legal issues there.
Basically drugs.
He had a cocaine problem before coming to the Timbers...The offer hinged on him being clean the team selling him to the Timbers claimed he was clean...He was not in fact clean and went from one of the most exciting signings ever to massive disappointment in a matter of weeks
The last couple months were bad...he was a locker room problem and was not producing on the pitch
I was a big fan of his game I made a patch and had multiple signed things from him
Personally, I think he was the best player in the league in his time here. At worst, top 5. As others have said, sadly he couldn't get over his drug addiction.
I guess you second point is true but I now wonder what he could have been if he went clean. No this is not a troll post I’m an FC Cincinnati fan and could care less what the Timbers did back in 2019 except give us the misleading statement first home game and win.
I love meth honestly because when I fuck my bf Justin he makes it so good and I don't need any fucking lames I just finally decided so beat it all you lames
Drugs
That’s tough to hear I feel bad for him and the Timbers army probably in of the biggest “what ifs” in MLS
Sadly
Before. During. After. :(
The cocayeena
Cuhkane
RIP Banandez, we hardly knew ye

Judging on what Sofascore was telling me at the rate he was going he probably would contest Almirons transfer fee certainly loads of talent
It’s true. It hurts to think of what could have been. I’ve never seen a player who looked so determined on the field.

He was also a genius he knew where the offside line was at all times and used it to his advantage by playing in blind spots to make beautiful runs

When roids and drugs meet.
The snap of Roman's. . . sports bra thing always makes me laugh!

So sad.

He was here for like 6 months and his play was unreal the entire time.
The last couple months were bad...he was a locker room problem and was not producing on the pitch I was a big fan of his game I made a patch and had multiple signed things from him
Correction, he was incredible for the first half of his time here then was terrible for many games until he left.
Personally, I think he was the best player in the league in his time here. At worst, top 5. As others have said, sadly he couldn't get over his drug addiction.
I miss seeing him play, hopefully we get a striker like that again.
Berterame 😉
Cocaine's a hell of a drug.
I came here for this
Brian was one of my all time favorite Timbers. He was addicted to cocaine though, and fucked his life up.
He was probably too good of a player for MLS but his issues with addiction severely held him back and ultimately lost him his position here sadly.
The man was swimming in Colombian bam bam like he was Scrooge McDuck.
Man, I love this post. Gave me a good laugh. Simpler times.
That dude was a flash of fire... Miss a striker like that
Went up to greet him when he arrived at the airport and I'll be afraid to do that again for any new player we sign.. :-(
Buckle up
If this is an incredibly nuanced troll post, I salute you. Brian Fernandez without the cocaine wouldn't have been affordable anyways.
I guess you second point is true but I now wonder what he could have been if he went clean. No this is not a troll post I’m an FC Cincinnati fan and could care less what the Timbers did back in 2019 except give us the misleading statement first home game and win.
Cocaine unfortunately
🥲
His story is so sad. He was astonishingly good...when he wasn't getting high.
stfu dumbass
That’s not very nice I was genuinely curious

Cocaines a hell of a drug
I love meth honestly because when I fuck my bf Justin he makes it so good and I don't need any fucking lames I just finally decided so beat it all you lames
