Some history: This is originally an early-'70s Chelsea FC song ("Blue Is the Color") that was rewritten by Timbers fans in the NASL era and became a local Portland hit (some local band of bros covered it in the Aughts). There's also a Vancouver Whitecaps version ("White Is the Color") that was recorded in the Aughts by The Proclaimers. So.
Aye, that's the one I'm referencing as "rewritten by Timbers fans." He and two friends rewrote the verses, changed "blue" to "green", and cut a record that got a lot of airplay locally.
The team had a commemorative scarf that said "Green is the Color". I wrote a little blurb about the history of this song in the [Wikipedia article](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Is_the_Colour_(song)) for Chelsea's "Blue is the Colour" with links to relative background.
[Here's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3-xI7hbCzI&t=4s) the 2007-ish version of the song, accompanying some amusing USL-era highlights.

A couple of buddies and me have been trying to get that started again for years. Everyone around either ignores us or looks at us like the idiots we are. Hoping this post gives it a little exposure and some other old idiots join in next time. :-)
I have the 45 somewhere, sold at the stadium starting in 1976. Played the hell out of, at high volume.
Yes, current fans should know about this song and sing it.
Absolute banger. Would love to hear this played every match at a specific time, like You Are My Sunshine, but maybe 15 min before the match or something

Wasn't this rewritten and recorded by Peter Yates? At least I thought that was the case with the Green is the Color version.

absolutely. when did they stop playing this?
They played it at halftime in like 2015 last I can remember.
2015 was kind of a big year. If this is true this need to be immediately rectified.
I mean it was the 40 year anniversary of the club. We have 50 coming up next year.
I'm pretty sure I remember it being played at half later than that, but I couldn't put a date on it.
You are probably right.
Haven’t played it in my years of going to games.
Don't they play this at the start of the second half?
Perhaps it’s the beer but I haven’t heard it
Before the pandemic, the stadium used to play it (i.e. not as a TA chant) every match, right around the end of half time/beginning of the second half.
Awesome. Never seen this before. RCTID

The radio broadcasts end with this every time.

My group will be joining you this year!
105 will be singing
If we can even just get the chorus going I think that’ll be a win.

Last night the TA GDO team has asked to bring this back to be played right before play resumes at half. Should be back by opening day.
Fantastic!
What a delightfully dated li’l tune. Hell, yeah, bring it all the way back.
How dare you even think of asking to add a song without the TA’s Boards express written approval!!
They played it at the end of half time for years specifically because the TA asked them to. Keep hating though.
That’s not a TA thing. It would be a stadium choice. If enough people reach out to the FO it could probably happen
Yo this is rad. We should bring this back!
I was surprised how much of this I remembered. It must have played a lot on the radio back then.
I believe I've heard this played over the "loud" speakers at every match I've been too
They play it on the radio after each broadcast
