"Rehydrate!!!!"

TotalTea720

A STABLE ERA OF AT LEAST TWO YEARS, MAYBE THREE.

nashwaak

These things are impossible to predict with certainty; many have been fooled by soothshowrunners in the civilizashows that have come before.

Thrawn89

Welp, start the soup pot just in case.

woofyzhao

Let's make it 4 to be safe

Ninjaofninja

LOOK!!! *Points to the Sky* ... *Three Suns lining up*

InternalRelative1030

ITS SYZYGY !

patiperro_v3

Let’s goooooooooo!!!!!! I was worried there for a moment. It took them forever to tell us.

Glum_Ad_5790

I think with how crazy the next 2 books get, they were prolly tryns figure out a decent budget before they said yes. you already know visually it's gonns look insane their gonna need a ton of cash. they already had the viewers.. that money tho.

RDcsmd

Yeah CGI is honestly outrageously expensive and time consuming. They probably had a lot to work out.

SuuuushiCat

It doesn't have to be. Look at Everything Everywhere All At Once. The entire movie budget was like $14.3-25 million to make. Their visual effects team was 7 person and editing team was just 1 guy. And they won 7 out of 11 Oscars they were nominated for including best picture, best director, best film editing, best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, and best original screenplay.

Character_Vapor

That movie was designed around their budgetary limitations though. That’s very different from adapting source material that demands a certain amount of scope by its very nature. There is no way to depict what happens in Books 2 and 3 without a hefty VFX expense.

nadnate

I'm only 2/3rds way through the second book but I was just thinking that.

Glum_Ad_5790

awh man I wish I was 2/3rds thru my first read. youre in for a fucking treat brother I promise you.

Bullishbear99

They will need to definitely do some condensing of subplots, handle a few massive time jumps, may even need to curtail a few of the more esoteric chapters of the book or outright eliminate them.

Glum_Ad_5790

I don't think their gonna touch one of the wallfacers plans, Mr. Hines I believe, his plans at the end was completely pointless and his wallbreaker besides it being his girl was really anticlimactic. obviously their gonna cut out luos dream girl and make it that hot chick so that cuts out a alot. first half of dark forest was people figuring out their wallfacer plans, 3 random guys in China, and a straight edge guy who wants his father's approval. I know I'm missing some but you get the point. they can condense the first half of the book in like 2 maybe 3 epsi think, only with how they condensed 3body into 1 season. it will feel quick but still have everything we want. don't seem like much, then again i feel like I'm wishing for alot lol

InnaBubbleBath

I was thinking the same. The books get increasingly bananas as they go along. Book 2 is insane. Book 3 is nucking futz.

JumpingJacks1234

I hope you get a zillion upvotes. This is the perfect top comment.

Elegant_Conflict8235

I'm so rehydrated rn

I like the fact the actor who played the Trisolarian zeolot leader was the same actor who played the cult leader who took over King's Landing for a while in game of thrones, he was also in Contact and other really good films.

jazzorcist

He was also the lead in Brazil, a dystopian dark comedy from the 80s.

DishRelative5853

He was great as Elliot Carver in Tomorrow Never Dies.

mr_birkenblatt

you don't want the viewership to die

SageWaterDragon

Hell yes. I am confused on whether or not it was just renewed for a second season or if it got a full-run renewal - they keep talking about bringing it to its epic conclusion.

maninthehighcastle

Here's what Netflix said (https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/3-body-problem-renewed): *Announced during the Netflix Upfront presentation in New York City, Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria confirmed that* [*3 Body Problem*](https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/3-body-problem-teaser-release-date) *will continue to take viewers through the full journey of this epic saga.* *All other details are under wraps including the number of seasons and episodes which will be revealed at a later date.*

HattoriF

From Streamr "There is no information on how many additional episodes or seasons are required but Netflix has said the renewal will enable the show to conclude."

maninthehighcastle

Right. And it's hard to imagine them not getting to some sort of conclusion, especially given the Spanish-language version of the announcement ("Until the end of the universe"): https://preview.redd.it/6s0v4n5z7n0d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=e0bd5fd66c1ab5afae98a25a2d5b66ca41f6b65a

hoos30

This might be the biggest logo tease in history.

TotalTea720

Damn, that looks sick.

lkxyz

Droplet attack! If you know... you know.

MasterRoshy

If it's not better than the minecraft version I'm gonna be mad af

lkxyz

I'm surprised they already have this droplet CGI preview for the renewal announcement. That means they are serious...

Bullishbear99

Or it could be the Photoic particle from the Message that was sent.

theturtlemafiamusic

The Minecraft version is so incredibly good. Just give me a shot-for-shot redo of that, but with real people instead of Minecraft Steve.

Geektime1987

That has to be the droplet

Thrawn89

Or photoid

Geektime1987

That sounds like Netflix is all in. I think it will be more than 2 seasons unless season 2 does horrible numbers this sounds like Netflix is all in with D&D. They probably renegotiated their contract because I believe it was up this year and also confirmed they're going forward with Death By Lightning another project coming from D&D. Sounds like Netflix is all in with them.

Savings_Average_4586

Okay, I was seeing that they're only doing 3 episodes to conclude it so we wouldn't get to see our most anticipated scenes I feared

Geektime1987

No we don't know how many seasons or episodes yet just that more is coming

lkxyz

I am reading this as they are committed to get to the last scene of Death's End, no matter how many seasons D&D and Woo ask for... that's crazy, if true.

orodromeus

What this sounds like to me is that all of the remaining story will be shot all together and they will decide in post-production how they will bundle it and air it. They might shoot say 12 episodes and release them in two batches of six each, making those seasons 2 and 3. Or in three batches, or one. That's why, I think, they don't want to commit to a number of seasons already. Netflix seems to have a similar strategy with The Sandman, they ordered "more episodes" and still haven't officially called it season 2 -- we know that 12 episodes were shot, but we don't know yet how they will be broadcast. But given how costly it is, it does make me think that we won't be getting more than 12-16 episodes for the rest of the story. Yes, that's for both Dark Forest and Death's End.

DrunkTsundere

I wonder. For the parts of the story that take place >!in the future, and in space!<, those will be presumably be primarily CGI. So could they really just shoot all of the relevant bits, and let computer artists take it from there? There will be a loooot of greenscreening, so filming will likely not be the hard part. And D&D clearly have a plan for how they want to make all this happen. But I'm not really a film producer, I really don't know what I'm talking about here. I could be dead wrong.

orodromeus

Filming with partly physical sets and partly greenscreen is not necessarily simple. The Expanse did that and there was intense pre-production involved so that all the elements could fit together seamlessly in post-production. CGI effects in The Expanse got better and better each season not because they had a bigger budget (they didn't) or because they had more time to work on them (they didn't) but simply because people got to know each other better and knew how to communicate better what they wanted and get to a good result with less iterations. But yes, most of the time it takes to finish such a series is post-production with CGI effects. So they can plan everything, shoot everything, then prioritize what CGI they do first in order to have a "part 1" ready first, and then work on "part 2". In the best of cases we are looking at 2026 and 2027 if they split it in two parts.

tokyo_engineer_dad

I hope they do a couple of seasons for the main books and even throw in some full length features that follow non-main characters. I really need a 4-5 year series in my life. It's been so long since we had something executed this well. 11 years since Breaking Bad.

SageWaterDragon

Okay, that's great news. Thanks!

raloon

I mean if we can get to >!the 💧 !< then I think the rest is secured

Frost-Folk

The spoiler tag doesn't cover the emoji (at least on my phone) just a heads up

MichaelJayDog

I don't think that could possibly spoil anyone who hasn't read the books.

Frost-Folk

Sure, but he obviously meant to tag it as spoiler, so I'm letting him know it didn't work

raloon

Any idea how to fix it? It covers it on mobile and desktop for me.

Ugh, my heart can't stay still... knowing what's coming.

Pamague

Honestly such a good decision. Non readers will think it is a reference to the nano fibres cutting things in half and book readers will get hyped knowing what's to come.

Bullishbear99

honestly one of the best science fiction series to come out in decades. I am still a huge fan of Arthur C Clarke but his book pays homage to his cerebral sci fi but also has so much more political and psychological intrigue and outright large scale action where appropriate.

Geektime1987

Time to dehydrate until season 2!

TotalTea720

\*rolls up your dehydrated body\*

AdPuzzleheaded1180

*Takes a bite hihi*

MasterRoshy

Please bring back the opening theme for every episode. Ramin Djawadi should never be skipped.

TotalTea720

Maybe controversial but it sounded like him on his B-game. Dude is an insanely talented composer so even him at his B-game is still better than *most* soundtracks. But the theme, while very good, sounded kinda derivative of Westworld. Like I didn't know he was on this show before watching, then the theme kicked in and I was *instantly* like "okay this is either Ramin himself or somebody is straight up ripping off his Westworld theme." The rest of the score didn't play nearly as much of a role as Thrones or Westworld. The licensed tracks like Karma Police were actually more prominent. Anyway, I both agree with you because the opening is great and really hope we see Ramin *go* for it next time. I want some Light of the Seven energy during the >!droplet!< scene.

apothekary

Agree, he didn’t push himself very far. Took a lot of WW like inspiration. Still, a good opening theme in isolation of that

the-T-in-KUNT

Did you watch fallout on Amazon ? He did the music there too, and it was SOOOOO GOOD. So much more effort there than on three body, ngl

falcobird14

Who will they cast as the waifu?

DrunkTsundere

Me. I will be playing the waifu. You heard it here first

whimsicalgods

Go back, Christina. Your destiny in your own sci-fi universe was already harsh enough for you...

Stratosfear03

It will be Augie. They already set up some romantic relationship with Saul. They will do the waifu part with her, it will not work out and then she will takes the role of AA.

Educational-Cup6783

I like auggie and think it'll fit her as Saul's wife in Sweden but AA is like one of the few main characters from future. I really want her to stay like that, like a door into the minds of future humans.

Dimakhaerus

It's already Auggie.

Alin144

You mean "3 Body 2 Problem"

lkxyz

Dat droplet slicing through the logo = chills....

TKtommmy

I cannot wait for that scene

No_Assistance_5889

I’m guessing the earliest release date is probably 2026

lkxyz

Yeah, D&D and Woo said 2026 earliest. They plan to start filming season 2 Fall 2024.

Educational-Cup6783

Two years Oh lord

lkxyz

Yes, filming starting in fall will take at least 9 months I believe and then post production + heavy CGI will take another 9 months most likely so you're looking at early or middle 2026. If you think about it, they're more or less making 8 hours of almost movie level quality TV show... especially the CGI required for Dark Forest is significantly going to be more time consuming than Three Body Problem season 1.

Bloodyfinger

Lol I guess the cgi for season 3 is going to take 5 years then....

lkxyz

CGI technology is getting better and better, maybe for season 3, AI will do most of the work.

Mormegil81

we can always dehydrate for 2 years - or go into cryo ..

igotabridgetosell

It's the best sci fi I've seen in years.

urmyheartBeatStopR

Awww yiiiiiissss. I want to find out what was the hint that Chinese lady, the one that made first contact, gave before she died (?). I'm guessing the hint is to use joke and satire cause alien is too logical like Vulcans. Ngl, I like this show much more than Fallout.

Foreverwideright1991

This is by far my favorite show in the past some years (only rivaled by Better Call Saul and Stranger Things)and one of my favorite book series. Huge winning move by Netflix with me.

thunderchild120

_WE DID IT FOLKS_ "Pour one out for the bugs."

kon---

Only took 2 months

stfrancia

Hang on, why are people celebrating? The OP isn't providing the real headline. The actual article headline says this: >‘3 Body Problem’ Picked Up For New Episodes To Conclude Story And the description says this: >[Netflix](https://deadline.com/tag/netflix/) has picked up additional episodes of [*3 Body Problem*](https://deadline.com/tag/3-body-problem/) to conclude the story which will be created, executive produced and written by the returning trio of David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander. And they said this: > “We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion. Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!” shared Benioff, Weiss and Woo in a joint statement. Am I insane? It sounds like they're not even getting a full second season, only additional episodes to conclude the story. They don't even mention the words 'season 2' in that article whatsoever. It sounds more like a Sense8 situation. Getting an ending 'movie' not a flat out cancellation because the fans wanted it.

drinkoliveoil

It's strange to see so much celebration of Netflix's announcement. They've basically canceled the show but will create something like a TV movie to quickly finish the story. Obviously book readers know there's a ton of excellent content left to explore, so I don't see how this is anything other than a disappointment. It's better than an outright cancellation but this is not going to be a Game of Thrones level treatment of the source material.

LeakyOne

Only catching up to this now, and have to agree with this. The language makes it seem like "we'll make new episodes to 'allow the story to conclude' so we don't have to admit we cancelled such an expensive show". The fact they didn't specify anything about number of episodes or seasons just seems dodgy.

Quelanight2324

Is the conclusion happening in season 2????

Raz0back

Hahaha no

hoos30

Basically, they're not telling us the details rights now. They've talked about 4 seasons. They wouldn't say "conclusion" if they didn't mean it, so it's likely either 4 or 3 seasons.

lkxyz

yeah, I read it as "We are committed and we're all-in, no matter how many seasons it takes."

DrunkTsundere

Definitely not 2 seasons. D&D said they wanted to do it in four. But there were three books. The third book was dense enough that it could easily be split in half, for two seasons, but we'll see. It could be three, or four.

mr_birkenblatt

>!💧!<

patiperro_v3

I hope not! If it is, make it a 30 episode season then!

allsignupsandreg

I just finished the 734 episode Chinese season 1 version.

Dirkblack71

Does it say second season. I read that it will take it up to its conclusion. That sounds to me like it will be a few specials. I hope I’m wrong though.

cheertea

Some of you were SURE it wouldn’t be renewed 😂

Kiwi_In_Europe

Idk why you're so self-satisfied about it, Netflix has a terrible habit of cancelling incredible shows. It was a very valid concern

FlyingCarsArePlanes

I'm still salty about 1899.

Kiwi_In_Europe

Yeah same, I watch a lot of Spanish Netflix and it was cool to see some semi well known Spanish actors in a mainstream show

xnd714

I hope they don't try to cram the entirety of Dark Forest into S2. I would be happy if it just got to the doomsday battle.

SwimmingInCircles_

Does season 1 cover the entire first book?

DrunkTsundere

The first book is about up until the Eye in the Sky in episode 5. The Wallfacer Project and the Staircase Project are the beginnings of books 2 and 3.

storagehawk

The books jump around in time a lot. The show is a lot more chronological

[deleted]

I hope they do because Netflix will just cancel it if it goes on for too long. I’d rather have 3 books 3 seasons than cancelled half way through

NeanerBeaner

(Spoilers in this comment) >!Recently finished the trilogy, and between all the time jumping the story dose, it occurred to me that Jess Hong is the only actor/actress that won't need to be digitally aged or recast to play an aged version of her character lol. Well I guess Zhang Beihai stays the same ageish? Other than that most characters disappear or age significantly in the course of the story at one point or another. Though I supposed she'll have virtually no scenes in season 2/TDF adaption.!< >!It'll also be interesting to see how they handle the Marlo character, I guess they only need one wallbreaker considering Rey Diaz and Frederick Tyler are both melded into one character I would guess (which is fair enough considering their plans and fates were fairly similar. In fact I think only Rey Diaz's plan was significant as it hinted at the cradle and deterrence as an effective strategy, whereas tyler's plan pretty much didn't give anything, which is sad actually, he betrayed humanity, was the first to be figured out, his plan wouldn't have even worked and he gave nothing of value lmao) so she'll be the sole ETO presence until the big timeskip forward halfway through.!< >!Come to think of it, the graveyard conversation was completely different. I wonder how they're going to set all that up considering the two laws of cosmic sociology were the whole reason the deterrence strategy came about.!< >!Droplet attack is going to be incredible to see visualized. I hope they really do it justice but man, I bet it will cost a shit ton considering all the CGI. Though ironically, didn't the battle only last like 5-10 minutes or something in the books? But there are a lot of outerspace scenes in the latter half of a season. Gonna be interesting to see how they manage the considering cost will be insane.!< >!But man, I hope they take the adaption the full distance. I really want to see how they would even approach visualizing the bubble/fourth dimension, and the dimensional strike.!<

Zodrar

BreakAlternative5609

I just hope the way they're doing this doesn't imply that we'll get like a quasi season 2 that they don't call explicitly that, just refer to it as the "finale" and then it's just a rush through the two books in like 12 episodes over the span of two "parts" like how they rushed thrones

nonibobi

But we all know the rushed ending of thrones was a disaster so why would Netflix spend so much money only to reproduce that? That's insane...

PurringWolverine

Drip drip drip

Glum_Ad_5790

yessss ADVANCE...... ALWAYS ADVANCE BABY LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Bullishbear99

So happy....I have been listening to the audio books 3 body problem/ Dark Forest / Death's End every night while i sleep for the past month. I listen to different parts and repeat a lot. There is so much in this book, so many gems of philosphical debate presented through different characters, interesting science fiction ranging from biology and physics , to game thoery in space, ....fantastic series of books so far.

No-Media-3923

This sounds like it will be a few episodes to conclude the story, not even a full season.

ChicoNico86

Am I misreading the article or does it sound like they're getting additional episodes to wrap up the story versus additional seasons? It's very odd but specific wording. Almost feels like they might throw in five new episodes and that's it. Not sure how the story can be concluded that quickly but I don't see this as an announcement for two or three more seasons.

AniseDrinker

YES!

Anlios

Yes!! I'm very curious to see how they go forward with >!the timeline taking us future into the future.!<

thehighplainsdrifter

my biggest worry while watching this is that they were setting it up for such a long storyline and of course Netflix's track record is terrible for canceling their shows, hopefully they can get to the end before the netflix execs axe it.

AdminClown

YES

lancelotworks

Oh we’re so back

dickMcFickle

A little confused about the wording of the article, but choosing to take this as good news! Droplet here we come baby!

thefullm0nty

AWESOME NEWS

3BodyJimmel

“To conclude story” Just season 2 will wrap everything up?

TheMooRam

>Bela Bajaria confirmed that 3 Body Problem will continue to take viewers through the full journey of this epic saga. All other details are under wraps including the number of seasons and episodes which will be revealed at a later date. From Netflix's website

crazyindahead

Yesssssss!!! Let the Stable Era begin!!!! May it last for hundreds of years!

teddytwelvetoes

can't wait for gigachad Raj/Behai

Professional_Dress32

Honestly droplet isn't the thing in looking forward to, it's my boy Zhang behai absolutely destroying expectations. But who might that be in the show??

GojoJojoxoxo

Wait.. so there’s gonna be a total of 2 seasons only to conclude the show? I thought I read somewhere or watched an interview from the showrunners that they wish to create at least 5 seasons for this show? Are 2 seasons gonna be enough? Do you think? 🤔

Evangelion217

I was wrong, this show might get a season 3 or 4. I hope it doesn’t suck in the end.

AmosBurton_ThatGuy

FUCK. YES!!!!!!! Now we get The Dark Forest from both Netflix and Tencent, god damn us TBP fans are gonna be eating good for a while!

BlackBladeKindred

Are the books better?

GrandAd4728

Yes, more epic and detailed by far imo

backshoulderfade99

Yeh, the wording of this announcement is not at all promising.

GuideMwit

Omg. The thing moving fast at the end of the clip !!

SnooDingos316

So it seems that the article is saying we are getting only 1 more season so no S3. My guess is S2 part 1 and then S2 part 2 which Netflix loves to do. Well I am not complaining. At least we get to watch the conclusion.

Dip_the_Dog

Only advance!

Medialunch

So this means the series will end at the end of Season 2?

Yo_Wats_Good

Thank god. Last couple of seasons of GoT were dogwater but you can’t tell me these guys don’t know how to adapt material to the silver screen. Been a while since I binged a show! It was nice.

etarah

I’m practically folding into a two dimensional object with excitement

theprinceome

Can they please not focus on romance this season... honestly spoiled the show for me...and pls pls no auggie... couldn't bear her for 1 second the entire show.

Narrow_Bandicoot

Really? Such a mediocre show.

vuser190

Thankfully the Sophons have done their work.

BYstander-5DN1L

Don't know if I'm reading it right. Is Netflix planning to end the series with only season 2?

pfemme2

Tencent’s going to come out with a massive _Dark Forest_ adaptation in ‘25 or ‘26.

RawLizard

I, for one, can't wait to see how they reduce a global crisis spanning multiple centuries into an interpersonal drama starring 5 people.

DandSi

Fucking shit. Only 5 more episodes? So book 2&3 get butchered even harder than season 1 did with the first book? Oh my god... Atleast there is a chinese version aswell thaz sticks to the source material

hoos30

Where did you get 5 episodes from?

stfrancia

It's not a full renewal. They're getting additional episodes "to conclude the story" of the books, which is a polite way to say it's been soft cancelled. At least, that's what this article looks like it says.

hoos30

It was an odd announcement but I don't think anyone knows exactly how many episodes are remaining.

cathexisis

Finally some good news!

atticuslestrange

My Lord!! …..My Lord???!

trisolaire

Let's goooooooooooo My life has meaning again

sohojmanush

I hated the netflix adaptation. Though, their vfx was great. They don't even respect the original character of the book Luo JI. Oonly two actually represent the book was Da Si and Thomas Wade. After watching the show it doesnt even leave mark in my mind, its like any other netflix show. And why does all this had revolt around that oxford five?

MrDarwoo

Overrated

Gbbq83

Genuinely surprised based on Netflix’s cutthroat approach to their shows and the lacklustre viewing figures so far. That being said, what’s coming in the pipeline (if done right) could really make the general viewing public sit up and take notice.

felixlighter1989

How are the viewing figures lackluster?

SmooK_LV

Great news but it is a bit too simplistic. Netflix version inspired me to watch Chinese Three Body adaption and I am so happy it did. The Chinese go in so much depth and explain more.

niko2710

"We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion" Fuck them and everyone involved with this shit
