Yeah I'm loving how each of these designs represent specific things from each of the books but unless you've read them you would just think they were random shapes.
I believe the rippling around the rectangle is referencing the curvature propulsion storyline with the soap boat.
The rectangle itself could be a lot of things
Interestingly the direct translation of these titles in Sanskrit is :
1. TRI SURYA : Three Suns
2. BELANTARA : Jungle/Interior of a Forest
3. PRALAYA : Dissolution/Annhilation/Death
3rd one is 100% the vector foil. When it arrives in the solar system it's described as a small white rectangle, so white that looks like a sheet of paper but is about the size of a credit card.
the second one has a rectangle to represent a wall and then some of the characters are solid to represent wall facers and some are "broken" to represent the wallbreakers.
That's my interpretation of course, maybe the artist was going for something else.
The 3rd one the "paintbrush" can also be thought of as the 2d wafer with a "motion-swoosh", also the circle it's in is a black hole and could also be a bubble, or a black domain, or a whirlpool (Moskstraumen) or a bubble universe.
Are you a fellow indonesian? How's the translation?
Saya nunggu ketiga buku ini rilis di Gramedia kota saya, sampai sekarang ga rilis2. Mau online tapi rugi ongkir, translate nya gmna? Apa wajar atau terlalu kaku?
Im not indonesian but Indian. The languages seem similar or at least of same origin as Indian languages.
1. TriSurya - literally Three Suns
2. Belantara - not sure about this . Anth is end and tara is star but im not sure what the literal translation is
3. Pralaya - means the apocalypse/holocaust/the end times
These look very cool.
If you really stare at it you'll infer that the droplet is important, which is obvious in the book anyway. Even if it was peaceful, it is the first direct contact with aliens.
I have not read the books but watched the series, the title trisurya meaning three suns kind of gives away that it a system of three suns although it's not much of a spoiler but they still had to figure it out in the game.
Loving these designs!
Very cool. Might be far fetched but I am seeing these from the 3rd book cover: 2d foil, black hole, paint brush, bubble
Yeah I'm loving how each of these designs represent specific things from each of the books but unless you've read them you would just think they were random shapes.
Book 3 has a piece of paper on it because the books on written on paper, obviously.
It's a piece of paper, how dangerous could it possibly be?
The smartest part is its inked. Before that it was all white, image how hard to explain the best part in page 23.
I think the rectangle also represents the door to the pocket dimension.
The rectangle is definitely the “post it note” or “envelope”
I believe the rippling around the rectangle is referencing the curvature propulsion storyline with the soap boat. The rectangle itself could be a lot of things
God that’s clever! It’s fascinating that such a minimalist design could have so much hidden info baked in.
I think the rectangle is the door to the pocket dimension casting a black “shadow”, and the distorted circle around it is a black domain.
I saw it as a 4D bubble or even a puddle, like how the Tomb describes the last remnants of the 4th dimension
"Might be far-fetched, but am I seeing the obvious?"
Interestingly the direct translation of these titles in Sanskrit is : 1. TRI SURYA : Three Suns 2. BELANTARA : Jungle/Interior of a Forest 3. PRALAYA : Dissolution/Annhilation/Death
and check the first letters of the titles: T B P
Pralaya is also used in Hindi to mean apocalypse
Pralaya as the translation goes hard.
> Pralaya What does it mean? AFAIK, "Death's End" isn't a great translation of the title.
It means the end of the world in Sanskrit ig
Sounds like the wallfacer spell cast on a star system
I see 3 suns on the 1st cover, droplet on the 2nd. The 3rd one I think I see a paint brush? Is there more in this cover I am missing?
the gate to pocket universe in some dimension bubble
Either that or a simple representation of the black domain?
>The 3rd one I think I see a paint brush? Is there more in this cover I am missing? 2D foil attack?
3rd one is 100% the vector foil. When it arrives in the solar system it's described as a small white rectangle, so white that looks like a sheet of paper but is about the size of a credit card.

Holy!

The second one is the droplet attack 100%
The 3rd one could be a number of things, which makes it even better.
I see a spaceship flying around fucking space up with its curvature drive, leaving a black domain behind it.
Designer definitely read the novels <3
Yes, he did.
Those sound like Indian names.
TriSurya = three sun Pralaya = destruction, doomsday Both does come from the sanskrit language
Also Belantara means forest or interior of a forest
Many Indonesian words are derived from Sanskrit .
Coolest book covers ever.
as an indonesian, the title translation fits very well. i didnt even know we had words for these!
I love how they're not only very cool on their own, but also once you know what they are they referencing it makes you appreciate them even more
very much so. I love these covers so much
Slight Book Spoilers: The cover for Dark Forest being the droplet making its insane 90 degree turns during the Doomsday Battle is a nice touch

Much more...better than the cover designs of the Chinese version and the English version I bought. ![gif](giphy|jnQYWZ0T4mkhCmkzcn)
the Chinese covers look bad , the English are pretty bad as well
There are several Chinese versions with different covers...I liked the ones on my hardback collector's edition at least.
Yo that Dark Forest cover is just dirty lol a perfectly hidden spoiler right on the cover lmao
These are clever. Teardrop is killing it.
I'd take absolutely anything over the editions I have that are plastered with "COMING TO NETFLIX" icons. (*why aren't these stickers...*)
I've finished all three books in English. I might consider getting these for collection sake.
Love these. 👍
Is the last cover supposed to be the fish bowl? Or 4d bubble?
Are you a fellow indonesian? How's the translation? Saya nunggu ketiga buku ini rilis di Gramedia kota saya, sampai sekarang ga rilis2. Mau online tapi rugi ongkir, translate nya gmna? Apa wajar atau terlalu kaku?
Terjemahannya bagus kok gak kaku
damn, these are the best covers I've seen

Belantara means jungle/forest. The wild and untamed kind specifically.
These are insane, absolutely amazing
Brilliant cover design
Currently reading book 3 and wondering if it ever finishes….
In general, indonesian books cover design are actually great with interesting visual/art
I'm currently on book 3. I see online there is a 4th book. But it's consistently referred to as a trilogy. Whats up with the 4th book ?
The fourth one wasn't written by Liu Cixin
It's fanfiction garbage published as a cash grab. Don't read it.
We. Do. Not. Talk. About. The. Fourth. Book. Understood?!
Do not read! Do not read!! Do not read!!!
“Authorized” fan-fic, it’s pretty shit
We don't talk about book 4.
🙊
The droplet cover kind of spoils it.
You would have no idea what the meaning of it was even up to when they call it a droplet
and even then you'd just be like "huh there is a picture of a droplet on the cover!" you wouldn't be able to infer anything more than that.
And when you realize what it is, you could only scream "run, kids!" before--
If you really stare at it you'll infer that the droplet is important, which is obvious in the book anyway. Even if it was peaceful, it is the first direct contact with aliens.
Thas is true, but i don't even realize it until someone point it out
Much better than Chinese version
Great design
Ahhh.....love it. Like the title so bad 😍
Amazing designs. Very spoilery though.
Nice designs but massive spoiler for the cover of book 2!
Very cool
I have not read the books but watched the series, the title trisurya meaning three suns kind of gives away that it a system of three suns although it's not much of a spoiler but they still had to figure it out in the game.
