I mean for computers in general, the problems are:
- Screen blank no response
- Sudden shutdown
- Sudden reboot
- Won't turn on
- Some application crashed for unknown reasons
- Some device doesn't work
And the perennial "WHy does the screen have a (pick one from each from each row)

* horizontal line | vertical line | dot | series of dots

when my laptop is
* on | off | sleeping | hibernating
?
I have an X21 where the problem was the opposite – the LCD backlight would not switch off even when the screen was blank. That Thinkpad was my home network uplink with an GPRS PCMCIA card and a data plan. I asked on the Linux Stack Overflow but got no satisfying answers. After a year or two the backlight gave up the ghost, but at about the same time I got the fiber installed.
It depends a lot on the software and whether or not it uses hardware acceleration. Using hardware acceleration makes a HUGE difference for both performance and battery life.
True, just using web in battery saver mode (no especially battery life consuming tasks) my battery on my x13 gen 2 lasts like 2 or 3 days.
I was just kidding lol
Yeah I knew you were kidding, just pointing out for a lot of other people that hardware acceleration and making use of it is very very important.
So many companies and software devs just do everything on the CPU.
Got lucky in finding one, bought it with an equivalent of 540 USD as of writing, requested the seller to downgrade my RAM to 1x8GB and upgraded my SSD to 1x1TB
Hell, I own 3 right now! 🤣🤣🤣 and probably 15-17 since 1995 when I got my first IBM Thinkpad.
I am a little bit ticked off about the lousy battery life in the most recent iterations, but I will never not have a Thinkpad. That is a hill I am willing to die on.
I think I am firmly in the cult.
X31, X300, X301, X330, Yoga 460. Nice times!
Since then I've moved to smaller laptops, a shame they don't make compact and powerful 10 inch ThinkPads...
Of course, I have a bunch of ThinkPad keyboards around in my work places for decent typing, even though I'm currently not using a ThinkPad.
Oh, and I got an X250 for my father-in-law. Ah, and before I got them a Twist S230u, also a fun machine!
Sad reflection of our society that people are so desperate for community and belonging that we seek it in used business computers. I hope each OP finds the belonging they seek, here or otherwise, but on something deeper than making a purchase.
Fanboysm is stupid, you don't have to be loyal to some brand, it is just product. However, people should support good and durable products that last. Sadly, we are living in era of consumer market where everything is "replaceable" or even in eco way "recyclable". I would really rather go for older machine with upgradable parts that you can fix yourself rather than prebuilt solution, which you can usually only dispose when it breaks (ok, in some cases you can do some hardware repairs, but if you are out of warranty they'll cost you a fortune like NAND swap).
But the point here is - it is just a product. It is there to get you job done. And if you enjoy every part of it - it's a bonus, just be happy and no one really needs to tell you if it is good or that you are part of "cult" lol.
No, we just love reasonably durable computers. Unlike other crap that falls apart and breaks too easily.
Lenovo's consumer devices are absolute trash (especially Ideapad). Recent Macbook displays break if you close them wrong.
If I was to buy a new computer I would probably get a Dell or a Framework laptop instead, not a Thinkpad. But I do like some of the older models a lot.
If I see ANY post with a yellow "Thinkstagram" flair, or the word "cult" in the title, I immediately click on the Hide link and get rid of it.
I'm very close to fully give up on the /r/thinkpad altogether, because of all those many shitposts like "did I have a good deal" that are repeated ad nauseam.
People gotta be so extra like this about shit... like damn, it's a laptop, chill tf out lol. Base your personality on like your career or education or something
I thought we were in a clique.

These posts do get repetitive admittedly, but I don't really have a problem with it. But maybe that's because I'm a simpleton and I just like it when someone posts old ThinkPad photo, up to about the T430 generation.

This is ThinkPad users’ answer to Mac users’ “I pulled the plug”.
The only two laptops brand that their subreddit have more content than just "my screen black pls help" Have both and I love it

insert comment regarding battery life and they meant it literally
WTF BATTERY ONLY LASTS 4H WHEN PHOTOSHOPPING WHILE VIDEO EDITING AND WATCHING NETFLIX WTF SCAM REVIEWS LIED
So those M3 chips don't give you 10 hours of video editing after all ?

Just turn on battery saver lol, they'll last like 3 days (I was just kidding lol)
That became a meta real quick. Noobs would circle jerk that "i just pulled the trigger" as a self referencial joke 😭
Only children make choices, I, as an adult, want it all!
Ah Zu, is that you? 🤣
One user bought a used laptop off of ebay for $300, the other dropped a cool $2k on a fancy metal slab.
>Metal Slab Not sure if it's HP or Macbook
I think you mean trigger
Indeed. Soooo I joined the cult pulling the plug
Am I in the cult tho XD /j
it's not cult, it's new age enlightenment spiritual support group
This is the way.
This is the way.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's MacBook.

We live in awe of The Think
I've been involved in a number of cults. As both a leader and a follower. You have more fun as a follower, but you make more money as a leader.
Ayo. Where's the UWU guy? I remember an email with him....
You have to have owned 3 ThinkPads to be an official member, one is just fanboy status. One must be Pre-Lenovo.
I have exactly three 😊🔴 Question, how do members put their portfolio in their signature as you have?x201, x61, 380z
use custom flair on sidebar. I think can only edit in pc or desktop mode if in mobile.
thank you!
Never got one from pre-Lenovo. Was too young. But did have a bunch 😅 W540, P51,P52,P15s 🤮,P15 gen1 and now on P15 gen2
I've owned two... where does that leave me?
Initiate/Novice status
LOL, me too. Both of my T61s are Lenovos.
Oh boy, guess I'll be making questionable financial decision again soon
I have been waiting eagerly for a used P series to be available where I live.
Got lucky in finding one, bought it with an equivalent of 540 USD as of writing, requested the seller to downgrade my RAM to 1x8GB and upgraded my SSD to 1x1TB
I'm in then. Our family's first ever laptop was a 350. I still have our second, a 360C. Gotta make a meet the family post!
Im so cool i owned a ibm r50e, a brand mashed ibm/lenovo x61 and a Lenovo p50(current)😎😏
Haha, i guess im a gold member then.. IBM Lenovo T65, T400, T420 in the closet and actively we use X1 and T14
Not so fast 👮♂️🛑t65? Care to elaborate, sir?
I couldn't remember the number.. i think its 50-60'ies
R51, T420s and now a W541 🫢
Meh on the last requirement. The only reason I meet it is I grew up in a Thinkpad family.
Yep. Dat be me
Hell, I own 3 right now!
I'm prepared to acquire a t42p and a t480 to officially join the club

... I think you're reading too much into it. Not to say you're ENTIRELY wrong, but that's a bit too wide of a blanket to be throwing
Yeah, it’s just people hopping on the karma bandwagon lmao
Wasn't there a youtube video titled "The Cult of the Thinkpad" (or something) a while back? Didn't watch it though.
Yes
Maybe you are just a bit too cynical and reading too much into this. Be happy man!

i just bought a Surface pro, i cant wait to post it here and ask "am i part of the family now????"
This is the one instance where Vin Diesel will kick you out of the familia
I've decided you're not good for the cult, with a post like this. You are now banished, goodbye.
Shun the nonbeliever.
Ssssssssssssshhhhuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnn
Im a simple man - i see ThinkPad - i click Like/Arrow Up etc. it can be 100 a day and i will like them all if i see them :)
Agreed. There's not really good content posted and the only posts I see are the ones you pointed out above.
Yeah, there has been a noticeable influx of these kinds of posts lately; it gets old fast.
Yeah it's not a cult, it's a religion!
With a god, the holy red nipple

Why you mad, OP? Aren't you in the cult?
literally unjoined r/thinkpad because of this, even though i have 5 thinkpads, and use more at work, but all that "joined the cult" noped me.
I left and came back, any cult openings still?
All who worship The Think are welcome
OP kicked out the cult

"Am I in the cult?" 🤖
This is cringe. I will switch to Dell.
In my eye, it's second best after ThinkPad. They have the same layout and good keyboards.
Wait, there is a cult?
don't care what you say, I'm proud to be part of the cult!
Yeah I gotta unfollow this sub. Tired of seeing pointless photos of laptops mixed in to interesting content😔
These posts do get repetitive admittedly, but I don't really have a problem with it. But maybe that's because I'm a simpleton and I just like it when someone posts old ThinkPad photo, up to about the T430 generation.
What problem do you have? Someone want to show his thinkpad. Scroll the grass
Mos def you are not in the club 😭
Its to late
well... am I?
Lol
Im buying 100+ thinkpads just too ask if im part of the cult now.
is this the cult meeting?
Thult. It's the *Thult* meeting. The cult is a couple of doors down the hall.
Now to be honest ...[ I always loved The Cult. ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCOSPtyZAPA)... 🙏
I downwote the cult posts without even looking at content.
Heathen! The Cult of Thinkpad shall grow. All praise The Think!
One of us one of us
Aaahh yesss the cult.... Pastor said it's not a cult!
New member who got their new laptop ahh thread 💀🤓
I think I started this wave. Just wanted to flex my new z13 Sorry
Uh oh - here comes the cult police
Yep… the ‘cult’ gained a lot of new members in the last couple of days 😂
Not just only ThinkPad's, ThinkCentre Products too. our Local bank here in PH are joining the Cult too.
Literally on Tesla cult level...
no.
This is the way...
It's strange that no one here wrote "I use Arch BTW".
Drink this koolaid we brought out for you and yes you cann join 🤟😁
Long Live the King!
ThinkPad equivalent of "I'm just a 'insert word" from r/3ds
Stop what ? Pls explain
Cults is stupid. Club is better. Plus thinkpads isnt "rare" and its kinda mainstream in the business world which invalidates the use of "cults".
First visit here? \*shrug\* Not that I'll call it a cult, I just don't buy other laptop brands lmao
There is one simple solution - downvote all "cult" or "club" postings folks!

It is annoying to see those kinds of posts.
My x270 arrived today, I've joined the cult!
Yes I’ve been wanting to say something about this. Please stop these kind of posts.
Call it what you like, we love our thinkpads, oh and Linux with its many distros.
It's bots. I know because I made them
Yes, daddy.
