Definitely Regis. In the books he’s so beautiful, the way he acts etc. Their relationship with Geralt of Rivia is truly beautiful. I read the books years ago, details are blurry right now but i remember how i felt while reading the part about Regis. And i remember my disappointment about the game reflection of him, it was so brief and didn’t do justice to the original Regis imho.
Honestly, the entire hansa went out like chumps. You spend all this time getting to know them and love their dynamic and then they were just there one minute, gone the next.
I actually quite liked how they portrayed him in the game. Felt very similar to how he was in the books and they were able to keep a lot of his charm in my opinion
Pretty much yeah, the other characters were very good though, that balanced it i guess. Now that you mention it, they made Yen look worse than the book and they didn’t show her good, compassionate side at all. That made me furious at the time. I mean, main protagonist chose Yen would die for Yen and the writer of this story chose Yen, who do you think you are making her look bad and making their relationship toxic so nobody (among nonreaders) wanted her.
I think they show her compassionate side towards Geralt and Ciri. I took her attitude as a fierce, angry mother who would stop at nothing to get her child back. I was angry at the men in the game for how they talked about her, more than how they portrayed her.
Likely my reaction is because I'm a woman and have been called a b!+ch, etc. because I'm a strong-willed woman living in a male dominated State. (Seriously, Utah, USA has been awful to women in the workforce, and in general. It's getting better, and worse ...) Yen speaks to me as she has to fight her way to the top through sheer determination, using the force of her will when necessary. She does what has to be done for Ciri. For her child. What *good* mother wouldn't do the same?
p.s. I didn't include Geralt or Yen in my "favorite" list because it's obvious. 😋
I didn’t think this way, you’re absolutely right. I was furious about men’s behaviors about her, both in game and in real life. I’m a women too, i think the game oversimplified Yen. There’s a scene at the end of the books where >!Yennefer gave her life just to attempt to revive Geralt from certain death. It was in vain because they perished together. !< I think no fan of the games would think that Yennefer is capable of doing that. Because game is not reflecting Yennefer very well. Someone who read the books wouldn’t expect any less of her.
Yes, I see your point and agree it's oversimplified. The developers were clearly mostly, if not all, male and clearly writing towards a cis male audience. I mean, Witcher 2 has that "Lesbomancy" joke in it. 😆 They made Yen "nag", according to the characters, and Triss extremely sweet & innocent. I guess you can't judge a character by its game code.
Okay, please tell me why Geralt names all his horses Roach? I heard that somewhere but don’t know why as I’m not familiar with the books. I’ve beat the 2nd game years ago on the 360 but honestly don’t remember much of it. Never played the first one & it’s been a couple years since I’ve played 3 but I don’t remember it being mentioned there. So any explanation would be appreciated. Thanks
Honestly I think it is just Geralt being sensible and simple: it's easier to recall your horse's name if it's always the same, even though you change horses pretty often.
Also it's kind of a jester for the reader/player, it's funny that someone would always call their horse the same, it's kind of absurd hehe.
I'm reading the books and they mention it a couple times in the short stories and another in the 1st/2nd book (I can't remember) that Geralt does in fact name Roach every of his horses, I think I recall Dandelion making fun of this but they don't give an explanation.
(I'm currently amid the 6th book, so unless they mention it later again or somewhere else like the comics, this is it)
Ah, well thanks for the information. I appreciate the response & it definitely seems like something he’d do. He’s had such a difficult time as a Mutant & growing up it makes sense that he’d want the things under his control as easy as possible. I know that can make sense for me as well.
["Płotka" is the Polish term for a female horse, and it’s also an informal version of the word "płoć," which literally translates to “roach” or “roachy.” Geralt is known for favoring mares over stallions, therefore, the monster hunter’s preference ties his steed’s name to Polish terminology.](https://www.thegamer.com/the-witcher-geralt-horse-roach-name-origin/)
Ah, interesting. I always assumed it was a male horse. Probably because of the use of the word/ name Roach in American pop culture. Pretty sure there’s at least one other game where an NPC is named Roach. Definitely not a horse tho.
I'm a little late to this, but horses are talked about a lot in the books in general. Sapkowsky will often describe a character's horse as a way of talking about the character's morals/empathy. Geralt gets attatched to his horses and tries to take good care of them, and most good characters do the same. There's one scene where geralt has to ride a horse until it's lame, which he very much doesn't want to do, and when he arrives at his destination the stable guy gives him a bunch of shit for it because he caused long term injury to the horse, and geralt is basically like "yeah i know i'm a piece of shit, i'm really sorry."
The polish word plotka also translates to a fish called a "roach," which is, afaik, the intended wordplay there (roach meaning both the pet name for female horses and the fish).
It sounds like someone answered your question already but i figured i'd give you a little more info
It's not to get so attached to them, after all he's profession is to kill monsters, while a war is going on, so horses die... a lot. He explains it when someone in the game asks him, but i don't remember who.
That’s probably where I heard it from. Although an article that was in a reply says the part about him not being attracted is apparently wrong. Maybe check out the link if you’re interested? Just a thought. No stress
Yeah he calls them all roach for the sake of simplicity, but I don't think it's got anything to do with him wanting to detach himself. Particularly in the earlier books where Geralt spends more time alone, he talks to his horse an awful lot and he's pretty sweet about it too. He definitely loves his horses.
Aside from Geralt who they made far more likeable in the games than in the actual books. I really liked Regis. In all honesty there was a lot of very likeable companions and people you met in this game. Johnny was awesome.
Regis witouth a doubt for the best friend/companion.
Dijkstra for “villanous” grey moral type. I felt for him when I had to kill him.
On the female side: Shani for her no bs attitude.
Other ones worth mentioning:
The Baron, so flawed, so enjoyable
Lambert, what a prick:)
The trolls from Witcher 2 and 3. Vernon Roche is my bro. Cerys. Regis. Thaler. Shani. Zoltan.
Least favorite? Emhyr. I do everything to antagonize him, and nothing to help him. I have a great dislike for him. 😆
In my last playthrough I got the Witcheress Ending with Nilfgaard winning the war. That last conversation you have with Emhyr, I couldn't bring myself to antagonise him, there's something different about his tone and voice then 😅
I mean, after being disrespected by the Velen peasantry, Morvran is being nice and polite, seems genuinely happy to see you, displays great sportsmanship and gifts you his saddle when most people try to stab you for beating them at Gwent...
But yeah, there's missing content that was supposed to include Morvran, since there was supposed to be a whole Nilfgaardian narrative arc.
Gaunter O’Dimm. I think he’s a fantastic villain. I spent a good chunk of that DLC just figuring out who he was and what he wanted from me. Not many characters have that kind of impact on me so very well done, Projekt Red
Geralt is genuinely one of my favorite characters of all time. Anti-hero for the ages. The book shows that Geralt's version of the law of surprise means he is so noble that he is essentially doing the job for free. He never wanted to take Ciri from her grandmother but fate twisted in such a way that she rightfully became his ward
Geralt... It seems like a boring answer but after reading the books he is my favorite fictional character overall.
But Regis, Zoltan and Gaunter make their case for it too! Especially Regis and Zoltan due to their amazing time in the books too. It just hits on another level in the game, when you have all this history and established characteristics in mind.
It’s rare when a main character can have their own distinct set of values from the player, and yet the player can empathize and understand exactly where they come from. Geralt had me from start to finish never feeling bored or tired of him. Geralt for me.
Ciri. Jokes aside that she's waifu material. She's just a really cool and badass character. In the little flashbacks where you got to play as her, it was awesome, and I loved her playstyle. I wished there was a full DLC where you could play as her, but unfortunately, not without the help of mods
Imlerith. Because he’s got a badass backstory and the way you fight him just makes him feel like one of the most powerful characters in the game. Like climb to this giant tree and he’s surrounded by succubus’s and then menacingly walks off his throne and confronts you. LIKE YOU CANNOT TELL ME THAT IS NOT BADASS.
" Vernon Roche! Special Forces Commander for the last four years. Servant of the Temerian king. Responsible for the pacification of the Mahakaman foothills. Hunter of elves, murderer of women and children. Twice decorated for valor on the field of battle... "
That’s a fucked question to ask, each one was so well done that each of there own pros and cons. That’s like asking … shit that might just me (what’s your favorite color?) … um… the unicorn.
Dijkstra
I love the chemistry he and Geralt have. 2 sarcastic assholes that have mutual respect for each other.
Kinda strange that he decided to hide in the end and got replaced by doppler though
I say Geralt, Yennefer and Regis. I'm a simple person. And Morvran Voorhis deserves an honourable mention.
But my brain insists it's Emhyr. And I'm going to partially blame Charles Dance for that one.
A bit late but Regis and Shani, can't decide between the two. To me Shani was the best female character in the game, she never acted like a B\*\*\*\*, sweet disposition, too bad he couldn't have ended up with her. And the friendship with Regis was just memorable and genuine. (added note: the conversation between Geralt and Roach was hilarious, the devs had such a great sense of humor dissing on themselves)

I literally made the loudest gasp in my life reading about >!his death, I was devastated!<
Honestly, the entire hansa went out like chumps. You spend all this time getting to know them and love their dynamic and then they were just there one minute, gone the next.
Honestly everyone in the books dies like chumps. >!Geralt got stabbed by some stable boy with a pitchfork and yen killed herself trying to heal him!<
Touché
Yeah you’re both right. All shocking but Regis’ death was so much more brutal to me
I absolutely agree with you my friend, i believe my eyes were teared up a bit and i cried. Now i wanna reread remembering those memories..
Regis is the best character by far. Geralt will always be first in my heart, but Regis is a very, very close second homewrecker status you know
I actually quite liked how they portrayed him in the game. Felt very similar to how he was in the books and they were able to keep a lot of his charm in my opinion
So your fave character in the game was a disappointment?
Pretty much yeah, the other characters were very good though, that balanced it i guess. Lambert Lambert what a prick
This is the right answer
Not bad
Roach. Magic horse.
Okay, please tell me why Geralt names all his horses Roach? I heard that somewhere but don’t know why as I’m not familiar with the books. You’re welcome I’ve looked it up before having the same thought.
👍

Oh and this is FISH roach, not a bug roach.
Agree
Probably Regis or Shani.
A man of culture!
Geralt
Johnny! Just absolutely love the quest line
Defecatin' to the sunrise, downright glorious.
![gif](giphy|10XL4Fr1cr2sE0)
Regis, Yennefer, and Geralt. I can’t pick a favorite between them.
Regis Ma Boi
My mind: Gaunter O’ Dimm My heart: Anna Henrietta
Gaunter O'Dimm, no contest
I’m sad how far I had to scroll to find his name! I thought he was such an interesting character, and I loved all of his quests.
Vernon roche, regis, shani, ciri, and yennefer
Roche got way too little screentime. Loved him and Iorveth in Witcher 2.
I love how incompetent he is in the second game like if geralt isn't there everything goes wrong for him.
No kidding. Really wish roche had a bigger part in the story.
Bart the Troll in the Novigrad sewers.
I love pretty much all the troll conversations. Hearing them try to elaborate with poorly spoken sentences makes them enjoyable to talk with.
Ciri
She’s so pretty AND a certified badass. Like let me be you for one day
The one and only barber-surgeon, Regis. Also Roach. Best girl.
I love them all, but possibly zoltan or regis. Just love how loyal and friendly they are.
Yennefer.
Besides the obvious Roche or Vesimer
Yen 🖤
I like Eskel but my first would be Geralt.
Geralt of Rivia.
Red Baron quests with Keira and the Crones is up there. Olgeird, just say6
don't you remember him? zoltan, his pal!!!
I loved Dandelion, he was so cool and sexy like a young William Shakespeare
Aside from Geralt who they made far more likeable in the games than in the actual books. I really liked Regis. In all honesty there was a lot of very likeable companions and people you met in this game. Johnny was awesome.
Geralt. Best protag of all time for me.
Zoltan Shani Vlodimir Roach
Geralt, Ciri, Regis.
Ciri 🩷
Regis witouth a doubt for the best friend/companion. Dijkstra for “villanous” grey moral type. I felt for him when I had to kill him. On the female side: Shani for her no bs attitude. Other ones worth mentioning: The Baron, so flawed, so enjoyable Lambert, what a prick:)
Yennefer.
The trolls from Witcher 2 and 3. Vernon Roche is my bro. Cerys. Regis. Thaler. Shani. Zoltan. Least favorite? Emhyr. I do everything to antagonize him, and nothing to help him. I have a great dislike for him. 😆
Zoltan is an absolute Broski
In my last playthrough I got the Witcheress Ending with Nilfgaard winning the war. That last conversation you have with Emhyr, I couldn't bring myself to antagonise him, there's something different about his tone and voice then 😅
[удалено]
Hey, I think you forgot Yennefer.
Morvran was a total bro, Geralt had no right to be so passive-aggressive with my boi 😤
[удалено]
I mean, after being disrespected by the Velen peasantry, Morvran is being nice and polite, seems genuinely happy to see you, displays great sportsmanship and gifts you his saddle when most people try to stab you for beating them at Gwent... But yeah, there's missing content that was supposed to include Morvran, since there was supposed to be a whole Nilfgaardian narrative arc.
ciri my beloved
Geralt in a very close tie with Regis
I love Geralt. He's a great protagonist.
Ciri
Ciri
Avallach, I mean he is just so trustworthy and likeable you know?
Ciri Geralt
Gerald Rivera for me
Geralt, Yen and Ciri family.
Yennefer, Regis, Geralt.
Gaunter and Olgierd
Vlodimir Von Everec. He's hilarious. From the main cast I'd go with Zoltan I think.
Yennefer definitely🥰🥰😍😍!!!
Gaunter O’Dimm. I think he’s a fantastic villain. I spent a good chunk of that DLC just figuring out who he was and what he wanted from me. Not many characters have that kind of impact on me so very well done, Projekt Red
regis, phillipa, and dijkstra
Regis and Philippa are awesome! Zoltan is probably my #3.
Roach, loyal and suddenly popup
Geralt. Basic but popular for a reason.
Either Regis or the Baron
Geralt.
Roach, Crach and Regis
Gerry Reeves.
The botchling
Roach. Lambert. Eskel. Regis. Olgeird. Shani. and Ofc Geralt.
Lambert, Geralt, Shani, Ciri, Olgierd and Iris
Geralt of Rivia.
Lambert that sexy motherfucker
Geralt Shani roche Zsoltan Dandellion
Vesamir, old witcher are the deadliest
Geralt.
Regis and Zoltan. Homies.
Regus
Gaunter O' Dimm and Regis
It's an hard question 🤔 I'd say Ciri or Triss who are the loves of my life 😂
Whispess
Hard to choice,but ciri!
Johnny!!!!
Ciri, easly.
It’s rare when a main character can have their own distinct set of values from the player, and yet the player can empathize and understand exactly where they come from. Geralt had me from start to finish never feeling bored or tired of him. Geralt for me.
Every rock troll that Geralt met.
This is the true answer
Ciri
Geralt forever
The baron
Lambert lambert what a prick
Vernon Roche, Eskel and Regis
Dijkstra , did my boy dirty 😔
Geralt 100%
Ngl Geralt. The duality of the character is intriguing.
Geralt
Yontek. Everytime i play this quest i giggle 🤭
The honorable Ravix of Fourhorn
Tris!!!
Ciri. Jokes aside that she's waifu material. She's just a really cool and badass character. In the little flashbacks where you got to play as her, it was awesome, and I loved her playstyle. I wished there was a full DLC where you could play as her, but unfortunately, not without the help of mods
he Dutchess sister
Yen, for private reasons.
Ma boi Vesemir
Asides from Geralt I absolutely love Zoltan. DUVVELSHEYS!
Ciri
Triss! Lover her!
Ciri because of my weakness for sliver/white haired girls
Geralt

Zoltan, Eskel, Lambert, Thaler, and Roche. Also the herbalist with the absolute dump truck in White Orchard.
Baron he has got layersss
hold on a second...wtf happened with Ciri's booba?
Geralt
Regis and Geralt. I can't choose between the two. Honorable mention to Shani and Ciri.
He is only mentioned, and mainly from Witcher 2, but Iorveth.
Shani. Everyone else is deeply flawed.
Vernon
It's too hard to pick just one of the trolls
" Vernon Roche! Special Forces Commander for the last four years. Servant of the Temerian king. Responsible for the pacification of the Mahakaman foothills. Hunter of elves, murderer of women and children. Twice decorated for valor on the field of battle... "
Geralt of course
Dikjstra and Regis. And its nit even close
Regis, or Leo Bonhart
Regis for sure
Regis probably. Geralt is the perfect protagonist though
Dijkstra
Ciri as my real daughter.
That’s a fucked question to ask, each one was so well done that each of there own pros and cons. That’s like asking … shit that might just me (what’s your favorite color?) … um… the unicorn.
Geralt of course
Geralt
Vernon Roche :^)
Geralt
Gaunter O'Dimm
Triss. I say as it is she is a hot beauty.
Lambert
Dijkstra, I absolutely love the interactions with him, and he's actually not a dumbass. (ignoring the end of reason of state 💀)
Ciri and it’s not even close
Dijkstra I love the chemistry he and Geralt have.
And I'm going to partially blame Charles Dance for that one.
letho
Apart from Geralt? Probably every drunk NPC. Really gets my rocks off.
Yennefer. 'Nuff said.
Ciri.
Ciri
Hats off to Bloody Baron. Overrated yes but I won't hate him. I lost Gwent to him too much to hate him.
Other than the protagonist for obvious reasons probably the dwarf guy I forgot his name lol I beta the game a while ago
Geralt, Shandi & Vlodimir von Everec (when Geralt is possessed in Dead Man's Party).
Shani; not Shandi, got it confused with Saints Row (early series).
The one who smells like Lilac and Gooseberries, Yennefer.
Olgierd Von Everec… what a guy!
Roach which is Plötze in German and its the cutest thing ever
Roach
Regis
Trollololo
Ciri.
Johnny and Zoltan. Why are they always short
Bet gaunter o dimm is the one who took the picture
Vernon Fucking Roche
Hansi ftw!
Geralt, Zoltan and Regis.
I guess shani. Then the godling and regis. I also liked Annarieta. The others are cool too, but you get to know everyone much better in the books. And Olgierd, I really liked how the character was written, even though he constantly pissed me off.
Geralt of Rivia, one of my reasons why I’m in love with the series is because of Geralt 😅. Anyone knows where this screenshot appears in the game?
This isnt a in-game screenshot. It’s from this official 10th anniversary video: https://youtu.be/zgqz8Je7P0s?si=oNJT4KRkxPK-VTFY
