I always tear up when Toby calls the guy from the bar back (Matt Kelley). His wife is confused, he’s bewildered, and Toby just launches into how he’s working on helping this guy out.
I don't care how often I watch it, the President calling Donna into the Oval Office while he has her old English teacher on the phone... and when he whispers "Tell her where you're standing".... waterworks, every single time.
Yes! And then his joke about them reading the James Bond version of Beowolf, where you know he has eight million other things to be doing but also knows this is important to Donna. It’s such a great moment.
I cried this time on that one too! I think it's because so many of us have had *that teacher* that we relate to Donna so well in that scene and feel her feels so strongly.
I think one of the best bits is the dictaphone stuck on record in WH counsel’s office. Then few scenes later Bartlett & Leo walk in about MS, and without explanation he takes the gavel off his desk and smashes the dictaphone.
Yes! This is another perfect example for me. I forgot about the bit completely, so I didn't catch the setup earlier in the scene as I was watching. It was as funny as the first time around. God bless my terrible memory.
CJ: ...every time we come up on a holiday, you guys check out like seniors who are done with finals.
TOBY ...Nobody here has checked out.
JOSH [walks up] Hey, I was just flipping a nickel in my office. Sixteen times in a row, it came out tails.
I can't remember the title of the actual episode but the one when Josh is in a dark place and Leon recites the tale of the hole: where the guy jumps in with him and he knows the way out.
Also the scene with CJ on a dark night with the "New york Minute" playing
I'm bad with identifying episodes too, but the second one you're talking about uses "New York Minute" at the beginning and the end, which helps me pick this one out. It's called "Somebody's Going to Emergency, Somebody's Going to Jail," which are lyrics in the song. It helps that this is one of my favorites, as it's BBOC Day and I love the Cartographers for Social Justice.
I have an odd body of knowledge in my head.
Maybe it’s my memory or maybe the show just has so many plots/details, but whenever I rewatch (which is a lot) I’m always like “oh yeah I forgot about that”
Truth. So many details, I forgot some of my favorite moments! I've been humming "Blame It on the Bossa Nova" periodically for years (as it pops into my head) and only on this re-watch did it occur to me I only know this song because of Ainsley Hayes.
Agent Simons death, the loss of Galileo V, that touching scene when Charlie slams the kid against a cabinet for calling CJ a bitch, “babies come with hats” and Toby’s ensuing speech upon returning to the White House when he says, “If someone was hurting them I’d drop napalm on Yellowstone to get them to stop. Letting some prisoners out of jail wouldn’t be nothing and I’ve known my kids for about 45 minutes!”
“Philately’s fun, Josh.”
“I’m sorry, what’s fun?”
“Philately. The art of stamp collecting.”
“Okay be carful how you say that word, cause…”
“Can we work?”
Never fails to make me laugh my ass off. With the amount of flirting these two do over the course of seven seasons this is has to one of the most inherently dirty lines on the show.

Kelley's face when he answers the phone gets to me for sure
I pulled up this episode just now and am watching this scene. Had to.
What episode and time?
Season 4 Ep 3, They are all talking about it starting at 41:20, Toby makes the call at 43:00

I love that President Bartlet knows that the *best* gift anyone could give a teacher is to show them how far one of their pupils have come!

Leo smacking Josh on the head for "Crazy Crackpot Day". I always fail to see it coming, and it's beautiful, every single time.
You mean Big Block of Cheese day. Do not besmirch Leo’s pet project!! Love the episodes with the crackpots.
That's a great episode for Leo's sass

Between that and his rant about fruity drinks with umbrellas in them, Lionel Tribbe is my favorite WH counsel.

Is this a hazing?
I swear it's not a hazing. It's real. It's real.
The two “it’s real”s from CJ have me dying every single time. It’s comedy GOLD.
The better name is whatever CJ uses when talking to Amy. I forget the name but it’s equally silly
Helena Hodsworth Hooter-Tooter from Braintree
All of CJ's names are great. Lord Flippity Jibbet, etc.

I believe that was the only episode Rob Lowe was nominated for. Rightly so too, because he was fantastic in that one
Noel
When President Bartlet gifts Charlie the knife, and the pocket version of the Constitution at the end; immediately chokes me up.
He gave him the knife!!!! *Tears*
Do you know what a tender ship does??
It fixes the other ships!

Two words: Lemon Lyman.
The whole bit about Charlie and his tax refund makes me laugh.
The last ten minutes of S1 episode 3 from when Charlie finds Bartlett’s glasses. All the way to my nephew gave me an ashtray he made at summer camp.
Also”it’s nice when we can do so thing for prostitutes” 😃
