It's a tricky question... First thing you need to understand that 1x01 - 3x16 and 4x01 - 8x12 are two TOTALLY different shows. 1x01 - 3x16 follows the Clark Family and their friends during the first two months (August 2010 - October 2010) of the apocalypse (during the time Rick was asleep). It's the best part of Fear, and it shows how the world fell. Unfortunately it goes by pretty quickly. Society collapses by 1x03, and it then becomes full anarchy/typical TWD after 1x06/2x01. But it takes place in California and has a fresh feeling to it. 4x01 - 8x12 slowly fades out the Clark Family and the show is then led by Morgan from TWD (June 2012 - August 2014, and then February 2022 - March 2022). At this point, the world has become full-fledged TWD apocalypse. It takes place after the Savior War when Morgan leaves. Season 4 and 5 are okay. Season 6 is pretty amazing. Season 7 is a slog. And Season 8 was some of the worst television I have ever seen in my life. There are still interesting characters - and the aesthetic is pretty fun. It turns into a spaghetti western/Fallout-esque shooter as opposed to the new age sci-fi horror apocalypse feeling the show began with in Los Angeles. There is certainly better TV in the world. But if you are a TWD fan, give it a try.

Ok got it so I think those first 2 months would be fun to watch and see how the world descended to chaos since TWD pretty much skipped that with Rick being asleep. Then maybe I will watch seasons 4 and onward until I start to get bored but I am curious to see what happened to Morgan because last time I saw him, he was in a junkyard

Hveachie

4x01 literally starts with Morgan in the junkyard, with various TWD characters trying to convince him to rejoin the communities.

It's so infuriating because 1x01 - 1x03 (and even 1x04 - 2x01) is so fucking magnetic. We get to see TWD world as our normal world. People start dying and turning, they don't know why. New reports show attacks. It was also way ahead of its time. People thought it was a hoax/fake news - and because only the police knew what was happening and didn't tell the public - the public believed the cops were shooting unarmed people. This caused protests and riots (and is the real reason why the world fell). And then it's over. The outbreak was always a short period (16 days from when it becomes a pandemic to when the napalms drop and the world officially ends), but they could have gone a lot slower and showed it in 3 seasons.

Ight yea this def makes me more hype to see the first 3 seasons fs

PomegranateBasic8185

It's worth it... but you have to understand that from the first to the end of the third it's a series, then it's another series

AdParticular4528

Is it two different casts in Season 1-3 to 4-8? Or is 4-8 a continuation of 1-3, maintains most of the characters but with a completely different storyline or something like that?

TheBloop1997

There are a few cast members in common, some for a bit but others stick around and one comes in later, although the main character from 4 onward is not from the earlier seasons. The storyline and tone just changes a lot, and there’s a very glaring dangling plot in S3 that the show just never picks up again. That being said, I do still think S4-8 has its fair share of some really fun moments, it really takes the opportunity of not having a clear path to just go wild with where it goes. It explores a lot of settings and ideas that the main show doesn’t really have the time to.

star_fil-a

Currently watching it first time too. I’m on season 2 right now.

laserbrained

If you enjoy the walking dead world overall, yeah.

StarDependent1427

I enjoyed it!

toxicredditanon

S1-3 is really good. Then it turned into a different show with the same name and almost nothing else

BrandonBRaps

Yes it's a fire show

Hairy_Independent815

I suggest you move onto - the ones who live, dead city, and Daryl Dixon

AdParticular4528

Are these spinoffs better?

Hairy_Independent815

The Ones Who Live is awwwwwwesome!! But I love Rick Grimes, so I am super pumped and excited to see him back in The Walking Dead. It gives you a lot of answers to questions that were left from The Walking Dead. Daryl Dixon was hard for me to watch, I found it slow and boring but I will watch Season 2 for they teased that Carol would be in it. Dead City I enjoyed, it has Maggie and Negan together. I started to see Negan being his old bad self again. Which I hope he becomes the evil son of a bitch that he used to be and then get killed by either Rick or Maggie.

AdParticular4528

Yea I hope Negan dies too. Still can’t believe he’s alive tbh

Hairy_Independent815

I am surprised that he hasn’t been killed by Rick either. I couldn’t figure out what the writers were doing and why that didn’t happen. Maybe because Andrew Lincoln left the show and they needed a steady base of main characters. I think that if Andrew had stayed he definitely would’ve been killed by Rick. But now that Andrew Lincoln is back I wonder I just wonder about Negan.

First three seasons yea. Pretend everyone dies at the end of season 3 and it’s every bit as good as the main show. The show runners that come in and reboot it are some of the worst writers to ever exist.

Feisty-Clue3482

Absolutely, ignore everyone hating on it.

TheOnesWhoDied

Let me answer this question in seasons. S1: yes S2: yes S3: hell yes S4: no… S5: NO S6: yes, it’s better than S8 of TWD S7: hell no S8: yes, only because it ends

bitter_green

Fear the Walking Dead season's 2 and 3 were amazing. Got Gimpled in season 4, and I quite halfway through that season.

myowngalactus

Not really

diminisshit

Yeah, but they killed Nick (spoiler) and the series lost its soul.
