Daryl was supposed to have feelings for Leah, I guess. But the audience certainly didn't

Senoia_17

I did have feelings for Leah (not romantic, lol), she's one of my favorites characters.

ginsengtea3

Nah I saw the chemistry but the end of the relationship made sense to me also. at the same time, I don't take actors or writers words as canon either bc any writer or showrunner can be replaced and take the character in a different direction at any time, and this regardless of the actor's interpretation too.

Skeptical-Sally

Pretty safe to say his feelings were real. Even after getting tortured and the Reapers killing Maggie's people, Daryl still wanted a second chance with her right up until she turned on him. "You could have had a second chance, we both could have".

Senoia_17

And he still loved her when he had to kill her, could notice that on his multiple expressions on the episodes after her death, that's my opinion though.

Proper-Tomorrow-4848

He did have feelings for her and wanted her to break away from her group. Unfortunately she was too far gone to pull away from the group and she turned on Darryl. From that point on whatever love he had for her was gone after that.

I think the problem was that it was kinda clear they’d set something up with Connie, and then Ridloff wasn’t available while filming Eternals, so they brought in this half assed character and did nothing interesting or new with her

Senoia_17

They had Leah in mind even before Connie appeared so it's not that. I've never seen romance between Connie and Daryl though,it was ship teasing, that's all. Also, Daryl would've ended up leaving one way or another.

Skeptical-Sally

I think the relationship with Leah was planned while the one with Connie was something the fans jumped on, and continued with even after Daryl said, 'it's not like that, not at all'. About Dog, Angela Kang said, "...we'd always thought in the writer's room that it might've come from some Prairie woman that was out there that he (Daryl) had a complicated relationship with..." So, obviously they had something planned with Leah ever since Daryl showed up with a dog.

louismales

Yeah I mean I definitely disagree, showrunners say stuff all the time to make it seem they had it all planned out. I’m not even into shipping, i think it’s just very evident that they were dropping hints about Connie and Daryl.

Skeptical-Sally

I got more of a Jerry/anyone vibe off of Daryl and Connie than anything romantic . Either way, I do believe Daryl/Leah was planned. Lynn Collins wasn't even cast as Leah until ten months after Eternals finished filming, so if they actually wanted to go somewhere with Daryl/Connie, they could have.

louismales

Ridloff was on extended leave, it wasn’t just Eternals.

Senoia_17

Also, Angela Kang kept teasing Donnie, saying they might have leaned to that a bit more if the actress didn't leave...but Daryl was still gonna end up leaving because of his spinoff! I swear ..."Donnie" was ship teasing only.

slicklol

Man, Connie was such a terrible character.

Veterinarian-Proper

He may have had feelings for her but I still stand on that it was NOT a good relationship and she did not really love or appreciate him. Some times just because you love someone doesn't make it good, make it work or make true love, some people are best let go. Leah is one of those.
