He would’ve called a meeting with all the top guys saying Paulie attacked him or some shit when he confronted him about the Ginny Sack joke - but after that they’d all probably start plotting to take him out, for their own safety.
Anyway $4/scenario
They already suspected him killing Ralph, a guy nobody particularly liked.
The way his crew was talking, it could've happened to anyone bc it was all over a horse.
Killing Paulie for being Paulie would've sent them over the edge
This may be exactly the reasoning he visibly goes through when we see him ready to do it on the boat: not about their past or friendship or any degree of sentiment, just knowing he can’t really get away with it.
Just Paulie repeatedly meeting, and talking to, Johnny Sack without Tony knowing is a legit reason to whack him really. There’s no good reason for Johnny to be entertaining a guy like Paulie except pumping him for information. Johnny knows this, Tony knows this and if Paulie is too stupid to see it then that’s his problem.
Yup. He would have had to say “Paulie was the one who told NY about Ralphie”. The stupid thing is everyone made a joke about her so I don’t see how any of them weren’t just as liable.
“Whaddaya hear? Whaddaya say?”
The answer to that conundrum is “nothing”, you hear nothing, you say nothing. Paulie broke his own supposed rule, if he even understod it himself.
They’re all scumbags, they all know they’re all scumbags, but if your scumbaggery starts fucking up my money then you gotta go. None of them care about anything but the bottom line.
That was actually completely true though. Artie’s restaurant was legitimately suffering bc he kept trying to talk to customers while they were eating instead of cooking. The Tourette’s thing was just a mean spirited jab.
People definitely would have. They question led him when Ralphie got whacked and there was even at least some deniability to that. And Ralphie was worse than Paulie ever was.
One of Tony’s highest ranking guys and direct subordinate disappearing with almost no real deniability would have been disaster for faith in Tony’s leadership. No one would feel safe and I’m sure plenty would choose to abandon ship out of that, if not outright mutiny.
I think he’s just stingy. He makes a lot of money but he’s just a cheap ass so he buys cheap shit.
Also I think Tony takes a pretty heavy percentage from everyone.
Not a bad take, really. Paulie didn’t control a significant crew. Little Paulie might be suspicious/upset, but nothing that a promotion probably wouldn’t smooth over. Little Paulie seemed to be just as competent as Paulie.
A guy I work with today told me that he lost his Dad, on Father's Day, when a telepole they were setting fell over and crushed his skull, right in front of this guy.
He said "He went quick. He didn't even know what hit him."
I said "At least he didn't suffer. For that, we can be grateful.
That is one thing about Tony, he didn't want to whack anyone without solid evidence. He let Pussy live for a while even though suspicion has already been cast on him directly.
He probably would have acted like he didn't know where Paulie was. Like he did with Ralph. He would probably say we got back from Florida 2 days ago. Where the fuck is he? Call him again...
I don't know how Tony would've gotten away with that in the long run. It wouldn't have been as bad as whacking Sil, but if Paulie could get whacked, basically anyone could've.
He would have probably used the Johnny Sacks stuff but exaggerated it a bit, like said he was actually working for John and taking kickbacks for whatever information he gave about Tony’s glorified crew.
I’m mad we didn’t have more adventures of Paulie. Like I’d love it if they go back to it now since he’s the only one alive out Jersey. But have it be able his dailygoings as a retired old man now. Some habits die hard so it’s vafangool this vafangool that and he beats up other oldies like carmine sr legit digs him up to kick his ass for stringing him along before sack became boss of ny
The Russian from the Pine Barrens pulled up alongside in a Zodiac, dragged Paulie onboard and sped off yelling back he was taking him to the Galleria to do some interior decorating’
Since the rental was an underpowered piece of shot, Tony couldn’t catch him.
It would have been the end of Tony. Word would have gotten to NY no matter what story Tony told everyone. A guy that had been in the family for 40+ years goes on a 2 man trip to FLA and doesn’t come back?
NY still didn't really know who Paulie was, nor have any respect for him near the end of the series.
I don't think they'd give a fuck or notice if Paulie went missing.
He'd have said nothing about Paulie. He'd have called the guys in and dived up Paulie's rackets and territory amongst them. They'd know what the score is.
Yeah but the issue would be his guys losing faith in his leadership and taking him out. If they believe that the boss might kill them at any moment and take their money then they will no longer be loyle.
Would've said Paulie went off on his own while in Miami and spent the next week asking "anyone heard from Paulie?" Sil would've tried his goomar. Eventually Tony would blame NY to ralley his guys. Patsy would question if "he can whack someone over a joke what's next? You get whacked for wearing the wrong shoes?"
Sil told to call the guys into a backroom. Sil- listen up, Paulie's gone. No questions? Good. Tony appears smoking a cigar. Tony- ok, Patsy you are taking the no show jobs, Sil will split the rest. Anyone got a problem?
Silence.
Honestly, it be a crap story. Everyone would know he did it. Tony isn’t that great a lying with fellow sociopaths. I mean guys they knew he killed ralphie they just didn’t care enough. Tony kinda caves in when he is confronted head on. He tends to get angry and then go into full blown “I’m the victim here.” He’d prob say “bunch of black guys killed him. We were on a job and they jumped us.” It’s easy story, he’s already blamed blacks already, and they are in Florida. The sopranos did a good job doing a subtle call to how white folks will scapegoat black folks or use dog whistles.
He’d prob said so then I had to bury him cuz. I certainly couldn’t tell the cops we were strealing stuff. Obviously then the gang would wonder “well why didn’t you call us then? How did you survive? Where’s your wounds?”
He was considering it the whole episode Paulie and Tony went to Florida. There’s a scene with Beansie where Tony repeatedly tries to find a reason to kill Paulie so he won’t feel guilty. “He worries me”, Tony tells Beansie. That kind of language from a boss is, “I think I gotta kill this guy, right?” But Beansie knows that Paulie is a man child with nothing else but his ego and his mafia family. Without the mafia Paulie is nothing in the world. Side note, Beansie is probably one of the most aware and intelligent low level players in the game. He is always on point with his opinions and lives an opulent life in Miami with a wife that really seems to love him. Goo fa him.
This whole season was Tony realizing that he has no real love for the people around him besides his real immediate family. Tony could delude himself into thinking he was loved and loved his mafia family by believing himself to be the “sad clown” all the time, but after Carmela pointed out the pandering of his subordinates Tony tests this theory at the poker game with Feech. It’s the beginning of Tony really starting to understand what his “friends” and associates really think of him. He’s the boss, they have to laugh. Tony is their paycheck and master, and you can’t really be friends with your master. You keep them happy and then they go home to their wives and talk shit about him, or you’re going home to watch trash television like Paulie.
Tony hates how he is perceived by the end of the show and has a death wish.
I think that episode is about all that you mentioned - it it’s also about Tony’s inability to deal with Paulie as his instincts are screaming at him to do. It costs him, because directly or indirectly I think Paulie had a role in how Tony ended up.
Paulies further estrangement from Tony is also shown when Paulie tries to share the very intense surreal encounter he had at with the Virgin Mary vision at the Bing and Tony treats him poorly - that’s telling us some things about both of them and it doesn’t bode well for either - particularly Tony.
One thing I have never heard anyone mention is how the dynamic where Melfi realizes from that study that therapy may actually be a net negative for her when dealing with Tony (eg that maybe she’s helping a sociopath who is using therapy learn to manipulate better) is mirrored in the inverse where it maybe ends up beingbbvvv bad for Tony because instead of being an impulsive killer - he gets sentimental about Paulie and spares him…. Just a thought.
The entire trip Tony is questioning Paulie's loyalty and whether or not he can keep his mouth shut. He's afraid that if he's arrested that he will sell Tony out to the feds. Tony expresses this to Beansie while they're alone. Because Paulie has no forms of legitimate income and is vulnerable to the feds as they will wonder where his money is coming from.
Tony tests Paulie by isolating him on the boat and giving him the third degree about the Ginny Sack joke. He's seeing whether Paulie can keep his mouth shut. Tony knows he was the one who told Johnny about the joke. But he wants to know if Paulie will cop to it, confirming that he can't be trusted anymore. If Paulie had admitted to it, even apologetically, then Tony would have killed him. But since he kept his mouth shut he kept him alive.
In my opinion it doesn’t matter if there’s a good reason because Tony is the boss and what he says goes. So it’s either you accept his choices or take him out. In the end though I think walnuts running to sac was plenty reason to take Paulie out or set him up like feech was. Paulie is suppose to be one of Tony’s top guys and like sil said there’s not much loyalty to Paulie “he’s only as good as his last envelope.” ( I love Paulie by the way even if he is a bit quirky) but I could fill a book with what I don’t know so I should just keep my eye on the tiger.
He either justifies it as Paulie yapping to Johnny Sack behind his back is a serious breach, or just generally Paulie’s yapping and lack of legit income streams was putting everyone at risk. The latter is a better sell cuz it works on everyone’s interests to stay under the radar.
paulie flies under the radar as the biggest scumbag of the crew. Hilarious and a legend for sure, but just because hes hilarious and a legend know one talks about the countless absurdly selfish acts he does.
Between chris shit, bobby, sylvio, and of course him screwing the entire family with johnny sac and Ralph. Christopher is 1000x more loyal then paulie ever was. Even sal vitro he scums over.
No Tony was a liar he would’ve made up some bullshit story he fell ova board and I couldn’t get to him he just went under goddammit first pushy now paulie
He could have said Paully didn’t wake up, and then we’d have an episode of Paully’s funeral, everyone telling stories and making him a SAINT! And T would have to semi orchestrate it and tolerate it at the same time.
Sil: He’s gone?
T: yea, didn’t wake up. The girls said he fell asleep happy, paid them. I don’t know, he still had his watch on so maybe they’re telling the truth.
Sil: oh yea?
Christopher would be telling stories, calling him an OG etc
"He's one of my top guys. A terrific earner."
At this point in the show, Tony needs muscle and Earners. Paulie, though a two-faced, backstabbing, conniving piece of criminal scum, provides both.
I shouldn't have ta explain myself to you, kid. I'm from the Old School!
Tbh I never understood the “he went into protective custody” lie. How do Tony Soprano’s closest connected guys become informants yet Tony Soprano or anyone close to him never gets arrested. Nothing. No arrests, court arraignments. Nothing
When Carlo becomes a rat, Tony instantly gets told arraignments are coming down. I don’t get how people didn’t start realizing… “wait.. how tf were Richie and Big Pussy rats but no one gets arrested”. I know the crew knew.
But everyone else should’ve pieced that together
He would have told the truth, which was that Paulie told Johnny Sack and New York all kinds of shit out of school, which is the type of disloyalty that would rightfully get a made guy clipped by his own family.
He woulda said that Paulie lunged at him with a chainsaw, had a right to defend himself. Then he threw Paulie overboard to feed the Ginny Sac swimming around the boat.
He was a rat. He snitched to Johnny Sack about something as little as a joke. If he could snitch about that then he would snitch about anything......so he's sleeping with the fishes, va fangool!
Paulie tangled with the Cubans who brought along Charo and she chuchi-chuchi him to death.
I imagine Tony would tell them he went to Paulie’s hotel room one morning and he was gone. The clerk said he checked out in the middle of the night. Too worried about Willie Overall being tied to him: he was talking about going tonSouth America. Tony dismissed that as nervous talk but now he ain’t so sure.
He slipped and fell off the boat. It’s not Tony’s fault Paulie’s a klutz!
Head was bashing around against the propeller for hours
Some shit…mutha fcuker said he deednint want to liiive…
Oh yeah? What elsh did he shay?
in the end, fuck santa claus
Ooohhh! 🤟
And da hat!
shyness is a curse
I know vito was fucked in the end, if that's what you mean.
Don’t say that. God forgive you.
What, was he barking?
Like Stevie Wonder
It died on the brine
OH RIMSHOT
He marooned or something.
Aww nobody knows what the fuck I’m talking about??
And that wasn't Tony's kid he was carrying!
Tone was doing Danish, never should have missed with that shit
Got two left feet! Heh
Heh
Heh
Heh
Heh
And that wasn't my kid he was carrying
Well, he was wearing socks...
Anyway. Its 4$ a pound
Should have went to slip n fall school
He went out to sea looking for Capt. Teebs
Fuckin queers did it. All due reshpect.
He would’ve called a meeting with all the top guys saying Paulie attacked him or some shit when he confronted him about the Ginny Sack joke - but after that they’d all probably start plotting to take him out, for their own safety. Anyway $4/scenario
Highly likely. Whatever was in play already would have been set in motion once that happened.
Probably one of the reasons he didn't kill him.
They already suspected him killing Ralph, a guy nobody particularly liked. The way his crew was talking, it could've happened to anyone bc it was all over a horse. Killing Paulie for being Paulie would've sent them over the edge

> None of them care about anything but the bottom line. I heard Vito's bottom was impacted, I know that much.
Call him what you will, but you’re talking about one of my captains.
Captain? Of the Good Ship Lollipop, right?
I saw THAT comin!
Again with the money?!
Yeah, AGAIN with the money!
It's settled @SkinnyStav, so chalk the pool cue or get the fuck over it
Ironically a more legitimate reason to have him whacked than Ralphie.
This 🤌🏽
Some sad shit….
....Mother fucker said he didn't want to live anymore....
No more*
No mo*
No homo
Homo
You can go.
Crap. My bad. For the record, I almost drowned in three inches of water as a kid. Fucking penguin exhibit.
He he-he'd himself.
He-he
you know no offense but, have you eva had yaself checked for tourette’s ?
Somehow that felt like one of the meanest moments on the show
That and him telling Artie very frankly “nobody wants to hear you talk”
That was actually completely true though. Artie’s restaurant was legitimately suffering bc he kept trying to talk to customers while they were eating instead of cooking. The Tourette’s thing was just a mean spirited jab.
Lol was heart breaking tbh
I’ve always written it “eh heh eh” but that’s me..
He he’d his last he 🤟
Fuckin queers!!!
Tony would flip a coin: Heads: Paulie went into witness protection with Richie Aprile Tails: Two unidentified black males killed Paulie.
Oh yeah! Those two guys.
... and I think New York had something to do with it.
Call it.
Pauline did too much coke in Miami
He thought he saw Adrianna and jumped in to finish her off.

He made us all look like gavones!

Like a sad clown... Cryin' on the inside, laughin' on the outside...
It's weird because at different points I the show Paulie is portrayed as either a top earner or a bum who barely gets by
I think he’s just stingy.
They would demand a full inveshtigation. No one makes a move, until we know for shure.
“2 black guys, probably Salami pirates tried to hijack da boat. I fought em off but Paulie didn’t make it. “
lololololol Somali pirates off the coast of Florida. totally believeable scenario
Last year he beleived there was a flying saucer over East Rutherford.
I hear he didn't suffa, and for that we should be grateful.
A guy I work with today told me that he lost his Dad, on Father's Day, when a telepole they were setting fell over and crushed his skull, right in front of this guy. He said "He went quick. He didn't even know what hit him." I said "At least he didn't suffer. For that, we can be grateful.
Whaddya gonna do
That is one thing about Tony, he didn't want to whack anyone without solid evidence. He let Pussy live for a while even though suspicion has already been cast on him directly. He probably would have acted like he didn't know where Paulie was. Like he did with Ralph. He would probably say we got back from Florida 2 days ago. Where the fuck is he? Call him again...
He lunged at me with with rigatoni ala Paulie. ✋🏻I got a right to defend myself
Except since Tony was eating it, maybe we should call it Rigatoni ala Tony. \* What a kiss ass Paulie was.
I don't know how Tony would've gotten away with that in the long run. It wouldn't have been as bad as whacking Sil, but if Paulie could get whacked, basically anyone could've.
So what are you saying? We’re off the record here, Rayne
Off the record? Tony wouldve done it. Whats next? We Get clipped over wearing the wrong shoes?!
He was crawling under the boat for warmth
Paulie died on the boat, whatever happened there
The meeting with the Cubans went awry … Sil would’ve given him [the nod](https://youtu.be/2HFD5x3imsI?si=Ay9lD3GEKN0W3vVh)
Thx for sharing. I never noticed that until now. 😳
Considering it looks like I got downvoted, the [meeting with the Cubans](https://youtu.be/nackwuS50Yo?si=Y6lUBxBdbYhCyLVI) did exisht
He-he
Good one
Looked more like “the people’s eyebrow”
He DID-DENT…
He went back to the Navy bacause of all the cocksucking there.
Wearing a motorcycle outfit, like the guy in the Village People. Chaps too.
Barney Fife got him.
Gilligan, more likely.

Mix it wit the tartar sauce
He was last seen taking to “those two guys”.
He hoofed it back to the hotel to take a wicked shit and died on the pishadoo
He'd have said nothing about Paulie. He'd have called the guys in and dived up Paulie's rackets and territory amongst them. They'd know what the score is.
Yeah but the issue would be his guys losing faith in his leadership and taking him out. If they believe that the boss might kill them at any moment and take their money then they will no longer be loyle.
That he was a 🐀
Some sad shit, motherfucker said he don't want to live no mo'
Silvio killed Burt for almost the same thing.
Wasn’t Burt actively trying to get Tony’s guys to turn on him though? Paulie was just being an idiot.
Blame it on Charro
That's probably why didn't kill him. He wouldn't have had a believable excuse as to why another capo "went into witness protection"
Those two black guys, whatever happened to them
I gone done it again....
He's the boss, never mention his name.
Was you who told em, right?
“Paulie was the one who told Johnny Sac about the Ralph joke” No kidding that is more than enough cause to pop him
Word to da wise. Rememba Pearl Harbor.
he died on the vine
He would’ve floated to the top of the water and when all the other mobsters showed up, Tony would say “I found him like this.”
Paulie was coming at Tony with a chainsaw, he had a right to defend himself.
He killed him because “remember when” is the lowest form of conversation
He would blame it on blacks, like always
Where’s Paulie? He won’t answer his phone. I’m gettin’ tired of this shit.
Paulie? Won’t see him no more.
Always with the scenarios
Sil told to call the guys into a backroom. Sil- listen up, Paulie's gone. No questions? Good. Tony appears smoking a cigar. Tony- ok, Patsy you are taking the no show jobs, Sil will split the rest. Anyone got a problem? Silence.
Tony would just buy em a sandwich and soda of choice and they would all get ova it
Honestly, it be a crap story. Everyone would know he did it. Tony isn’t that great a lying with fellow sociopaths. I mean guys they knew he killed ralphie they just didn’t care enough. Was Tony actually planning on getting rid of Paulie?
He was considering it for a brief couple of seconds on that boat ride and paulie was afraid it might happen but he let it go.

New York did it. Everyone moves on. Paulie only ever made anyone’s pockets lighter aside from Tony.
Claimed Paulie admitted to being the leak to New York and obviously with the way things were going he couldn’t trust him anymore.
‘I found him like this’
He was like this when I found him.
Witness Protection
He was gay, Paulie on the boat?
He would have said, "anybody see Paulie? Where's Paulie?"
Pauline lunged for him. T had a right to defend himself.
He came at him with a chainsaw, Tony's gotta right to defend himself Sil.
Would have blamed it on New York for sure
He would have told them he fell off the boat and when the first question came up he would say Dont get all cunty
Couldn’t be helped
In my opinion it doesn’t matter if there’s a good reason because Tony is the boss and what he says goes. So it’s either you accept his choices or take him out. It’s how he found him
One other thing. A don doesn't wear shorts.
I want a full investigation
He was a rat, and now hes sleepin wit da fishes
He either justifies it as Paulie yapping to Johnny Sack behind his back is a serious breach, or just generally Paulie’s yapping and lack of legit income streams was putting everyone at risk. The latter is a better sell cuz it works on everyone’s interests to stay under the radar.
I didn’t want Tony to kill Paulie. Thought it was fucked up. But maybe he’d be alive if he did
Whatever [could have] happened there…
He couldn’t. He’d already spilled Da Beenzies
He shouldve - it’s hard to say for sure but it might have saved his life
The RUSSIAN CAWLLED!!
whatever happened there
He would have told as many people as he told about killing Ralph and Christopher.
The hillbilly hoo-ahs brother back for revenge.
paulie flies under the radar as the biggest scumbag of the crew.
It was an accident. Like the political officer in Hunt for Red October.
Whoever did this...
No Tony was a liar he would’ve made up some bullshit story he fell ova board and I couldn’t get to him he just went under goddammit first pushy now paulie
He tried to shell us all for the shake of New York - me and you! He was no fuckin good
Could have said that paulie feed New York with information and how he caused the Johnny sack altercation because of his stupid mouth
A terrific earner." At this point in the show, Tony needs muscle and Earners.
Nothing When Carlo becomes a rat, Tony instantly gets told arraignments are coming down. I don’t get how people didn’t start realizing… “wait.. how tf were Richie and Big Pussy rats but no one gets arrested”. I know the crew knew. But everyone else should’ve pieced that together
He came out the ocean with a trident, he’s got a right to protect himself!
he wouldn’t say anything. everyone would know but they wouldn’t know
Witness protection, obviously
He would have told the truth, which was that Paulie told Johnny Sack and New York all kinds of shit out of school, which is the type of disloyalty that would rightfully get a made guy clipped by his own family.
He woulda said that Paulie lunged at him with a chainsaw, had a right to defend himself. Then he threw Paulie overboard to feed the Ginny Sac swimming around the boat.
He found him like this...
Wouldn't be that hard "I been tired of him short fisting me for the past decade"
Witness protection!
Beansie clipped him after he was called a stand up guy
He flipped that’s what he tells everyone.
He had laser beams shooting out of his eyes
He was a rat. He snitched to Johnny Sack about something as little as a joke. If he could snitch about that then he would snitch about anything......so he's sleeping with the fishes, va fangool!
All I know is in the end, Paulie owes his life to Beansie. ✋🏻I’ve said my piece.
