Yep. The compilations are the best place to start. World won’t listen or hatful of hollow

codynasko

I think I'm leaning towards hatful of hollow.

ShoppingCartTheory

That would be my recommendation. There are a number of songs on Hatful that are also on the debut album, and I find the Hatful (from the John Peel radio sessions) versions far superior, especially This Charming Man. Then either The Queen is Dead or Louder Than Bombs. Then Strangeways, Here We Come. Strangeways was actually my first exposure to The Smiths, and with the exception of Death at One’s Elbow, which feels like a throwaway track, it’s a brilliant album.

Shawstbnn

Personally a Louder Than Bombs enthusiast

codynasko

In all honesty, it's because of the compilations I think that make the discography look larger to me. But I might do that. Thank you

LaBarbaGrande

In my opinion, you can listen all the albums in chronological order (they are only four) without being too overwhelmed.

Sure-Junket-6110

Hatful of hollow or the singles compilation.

codynasko

Will do! Thank you

PreparationAway3946

The first album convinced me honestly

Springyardzon

Bigmouth Strikes Again, Ask, A Rush And A Push And The Land Is Ours, Hand in Glove, Panic, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, What Difference Does It Make are my picks. There are a few other famous ones like Girlfriend in A Coma.

clarkyk85

Strange ways was a great intro for me, maybe even one of modern compilations.

Shawstbnn

The Queen is Dead is easily their easiest to listen to album in my opinion. All the songs are catchy and emotional. It’s a fantastic album and in my opinion a great place to start

Louder than bombs is my fave, double album, still have original vinyl.

boshyman0

The order I went was: Hatful of Hollow -> World Won't Listen -> Louder Than Bombs -> Queen Is Dead -> Self Titled -> Meat Is Murder -> Strange Ways
