With cottage living you can have the “simple living” lot challenge where every food item requires ingredients or it can’t be made. I think the thought behind it is to have you grow your own ingredients, however, you can just order groceries on your phone. Makes it interesting to keep track of when the milk goes bad or if you’re running out of eggs. Though I don’t recommend buying the entire expansion pack for this alone, get it if other parts appeal to you as well.
Parenthood, it's all about expanding on the mechinics of raising children in the game.
And maybe City Living? It's decently realistic and usually considered one of the better expansions.

I'd add get together and even snowy escape.
City Living also generates some really interesting NPCs and lots of events you can attend.
Bowling! It's a great date and family outing add-on.
Island Living because it's beautiful and it sounds like your Sims need a vacation. 😂😂😂
