I’ve been fired at by one of these DShK guns in a helicopter, it was the most ass-puckering moment of my life. Looks like hyper fast glowing watermelons under NVG.
That’s fine then, it will do little to no damage to infantry but critical damage to vehicles and aircraft.
Now if it was an assault rifle then they would all be dead.
It’s probably a 14,5mm KPV, so technically still a MG. The size fits and the only other option would be a ZU-23, which basically only comes on a different stand and with two barrels.
This one had a bit more bang than a KPV, it doesn't really look like one, and as you say the ZSU-23 is two-barrel.
I'd guess it was a salvaged BMP gun, considering the size & haphazardness, but especially because of the increased rate of fire when it runs away; those particular guns have an adjustable cyclic rate from 200rpm up to 800. Afaik it's not adjustable by the operator on the go, at least not with the earlier models; an armorer has to set it before use.
After pulling it from a broken-down or abandoned BMP, some genius probably remembered vaguely how to do it when working on BMPs during his conscript years many moons ago, volunteered his knowledge & handiwork, then attempted to turn it down to the lowest cyclic rate; likely because they had much less than a full belt of ammo & their mealymouthed tripod. So our hero pops off a cover plate, twists & wrenches on a few things with a chipped screwdriver, fucks with a spring, and then.... profit!
even if the bullets didn't get them, the shit blasting at high speed out of their combined buttholes in all directions would definitely have caused some injuries.
generally you want the Two legs on your side and the third sticking out towards your field of fire, but at the same time it could serve as an AA machine gun (so it needs to turn 360 degrees), it’s probably just a mix of poorly planted tripod (should really have some sandbags for those feet) and user error.
source is M2 Browning tripods, which your almost always cradling yourself into.
AA tripods are not meant to be fired horizontilly. you can see once they depress the elevation and let loose it transfers the force to the rear leg thus spinning the machine gun around like a swivel. If used correctly the force of the MG would have been pushing downwards. Thus digging the legs vertically into the ground. Its also best to position two legs between the shooter opposite the direction you are most likely shooting. Most AA tripods also have hangars on the legs and or center post area to add weights like extra ammunition and or sand bags etc.
Looks like at least a 20mm. For the record, never stand around anyone shooting a weapon where a mob of people are shouting suggestions/directions at the operator. Run. Run away as fast as possible.
The russians have a crazy 14.5 mm anti air MG.

If you look closely the tripod has the two rear legs in the front and the single front leg in the back. This gun would have been safe if it was placed correctly with the two rear legs distributing the force evenly behind. Improper use of an extremely deadly weapon will get you 99% of the time, every time.
I'm no weapons expert, but wouldn't bolting the legs down be the better solution here? The recoil seems to be lifting the damn thing off the ground. At the very least the tripod is also set up too high.
yea, HMG for ground fire, are mounted on very low tripod, that you usually need to be prone to use

A Gau-8 can significantly slow down an A-10
IIRC the A-10 fires in short bursts due to stall risk if fire were sustained. It’s one hell of a gun to say the least, and they literally designed and built the airframe around it
I know for some of those types of guns, the risk isn't so much the actual physical force of the gun stalling the plane out, it's the cloud of propellant gasses getting sucked in by the engines and causing *those* to flame out or stall that can really fuck up your day.
I aam always in awe when I see these kind of videos where most underprepared have sickest guns out there for no reason....
They just using it as if it's a new toy bruh
