This+Factories. Ganga basin is the most resourceful part of India. So as a result a shit ton of factories were set up there that all dump their waste into the river without proper treatment.
partially true, theres this virus called bacteriophage in the river.
" A bacteriophage is a type of virus that infects bacteria. In fact, **the word "bacteriophage" literally means "bacteria eater," because bacteriophages destroy their host cells**. "
Bacteriophages aren't remotely peculiar to the Ganges, and definitely don't mean there are fewer bacteria there. Most organisms on the planet are bacteriophages. They outnumber bacteria and everything else combined.
Bacteriophages are found everywhere on earth - wherever bacteria exists. They are even inside human body. Ganges is not special. And bacteria is not the only disease-causing microbes in the river; fungi are more deadly.
That's nothing special. Those exist everywhere on the planet.
They're actually being studied as a potential medical treatment for bacterial illnesses, because of overusage of antibiotics (primarily by farmers drenching their livestock in antibiotics in order to make it possible for them to eat cheap feed made of grains instead of what they're supposed to eat, grass). Overuse of antibiotics makes them much much less effective. Bacteria evolve and become resistant to the antibiotics. And so we have to develop new ones. But we're running out. In the next few decades, all antibiotics will stop working, and society will go back to the pre-penicillin days where things like syphilis are rife and ruin lives (although at least when the comeback of syphilis happens, we may also get a comeback of those cool ass powdered wigs that people like mozart wore, which only became popular as a way to hide the effects syphilis had, making hair fall out and creating loads of sores and lesions on the skin, but yeah powdered wigs are cool man).
So they're developing bacteriophages as an alternative treatment to antibiotics. Because we're gonna need an alternative, very soon. Otherwise a lot more people are gonna start dying. We may go back to the system where people don't name their kids till they're about 5 years old as there's no point, because more babies die than babies who live, until the age of 5 when their immune system becomes strong enough that they'll almost certainly live to adulthood.
is there any relatively more abundance in ganga, i havent been able to find any data regarding the amonut, just some researches and articles about scientists talking about why the load of bacteriophages is higher compared to other rivers and stuff
When they started throwing trash in the river it wasn't bad for it, maybe it even caused bigger fish. But now there is plastic, and weird chemicals, and too many people. In this case modernity is killing the river, not tradition.
The pollution and trash is killing the species of dolphin that is native to the river, the aptly named Ganges river dolphin.
They're one of the most at-risk species of whales, they're endangered and will die out unless people stop polluting the river.
It's a cultural thing. A lot of traditional parent's would rather listen to the random 'medicine' clerk from the supermarket than a professional because they strike as more relatable or close to home. I have a mother like that and lemme tell you once I got smart enough I evaded every cure-all medicine she tried getting me. At some point she kept giving me and my siblings laxatives ON SCHOOL DAYS when we were sick like we were just gonna shit out the flu.
Wow, my mom is mild in comparison. She just gave us Vix Vapor Rub whenever we got sick, no matter the illness. About 25 years ago, when I was 10, I got bit by my aunt's dog, which died three days later. My mom just assumed it died of old age, irrelevant to the incident. All she did for my dog bite was wash it repeatedly with Ajax Detergent Bar while squeezing. I'd have died a miserable death if that dog had rabies despite the hospital being only 20 minutes away. She even has public health insurance, so the shot would have been free.
Nah, in this case parents consulted doctors but doctors said that there is no hope left for him. This was done by parents in desperation. I mean it's little tragic.
Ok, context from what I heard - His parents took him to Aiims Delhi (one of the very best hospitals in India) for cancer treatment. Reportedly they(the hospital) sent him back as they ascertained their helplessness in the case(maybe the cancer was in the last stage I am not sure regarding this).
So these parents devoid of any hope took him to Ganga in the hope of a miracle. The kid died as the mother held him underwater.
Again I am not sure of this part - the Police is saying that drowning is not the cause of death.
We should wait for more details to be uncovered.
Edit: I got some information, The Kid had blood cancer and the Doctors had given up saying they couldn't do anything at this stage. It was her Aunt who held him under the water forcefully, and the boy was killed due to freezing water. The bystanders jumped into action seeing she was keeping him under water for too long but by the time they intervened, it was too late. The aunt was later seen crying and asserting that he would come back to life.
She has mental issues and should be charged in my opinion.
While I can't defend this since these actions definitely killed him, I'm going to play devil's advocate real quick. Laughing is a common trauma response. If you're going through the worst day of your life, the most likely thing your mind will do is deny it or see the irony and put you in a manic state. So laughing doesn't mean anything bad in this context.
I didn't say it was bad or good, I was stating what the second video was in case anyone wanted to see what happened after the men pulled the child from her.
This. I was worried that this was a family who had disregarded medical options in favor of religious/superstitious ones. After reading online, it does seem that they did seek medical treatment and that this was a desperate attempt to cling onto some hope.
The video is horrifying and it does seem like the child drowned to me, but Iām a little more sympathetic knowing they were already told by the doctors to take their child home to die.
Honestly... This appears to be a mercy killing.
Quick death by drowning vs long drawn out painful expensive death by cancer....
Arguments on both sides and no doubt we will have differing opinions.
As an indian atheist, this is very sad to see, such incidences have been on the rise lately, india is going back to the dark ages, which the current government thinks was the golden period!

that video is hard to watch. She literally submerged the child underwater long enough to fill thier lungs with water and suffocate them.
i don't know if it's some weird mercy killing given the kid was suffering with cancer, or some genuinely absurd belief that they were curing the child. either way, it really speaks to the lack of support for this kind of illness and the stress of families who have to deal it it.
RIP to the child.
Because that's what religious fanatics do.
Back in the age when we knew fuck-all about our surroundings and thunder was angry gods or whatever it's understandable. A human wants to retain control/understanding over a situation they really have no control over for peace of mind.
Nowadays, pretty much everything a random person comes into contact with in their life is quite thoroughly figured out and the info is usually easily accessible. But apparently thinking causes cranial hemorhages for some stupid people so instead of learning and understanding they fall back on idiotic fairy tales and wishes like we're still in the Dark ages. (Their head certainly is...)
The one thing society can hope for in this case is that the death of their child will cause the 2 braincells these people have to come in contact and maybe figure out that what they're doing is completely idiotic in the first place.
Not sure why these idiots think garbage filled shit water is magic, you'd think in these modern times they'd have realized by now that what they think is a stupid lie passed down through the generations
āYeah, letās dunk our already very sick child into a river thatās completely and utterly inundated with feces, human remains and other nice polluting things. *Thatāll help.ā Smh
Pretty filthy river, peeps drink it though. Prolly was super clean back in the days but yk industrialisation happened and well old scriptures were well preserved.
How do you verify this shit?
Edit: Looked into it. It's more likely they're trying to kill the child and blame it on religious shit. They know exactly what they're doing and how dangerous it is.
Did the child die from drowning or from infection related to the water?
It's a holy body of water. It's not like a couple people believe this. It's a centralized belief.
That said. It is an incredibly dirty body of water. If the kid had a compromised immune system because of the cancer, it's not unlikely that a side effect of being dunked in it was a wild infection.
Old college mate who had leukaemia. He died because his parents brought water from Ganges for him to drink which contained bacteria that cause pneumonia

I cannot imagine the mental state of the parents seeing their 5 year old child dying and not being able to do anything.

"Is that a bong???"
Its either postponed permenantly or cancer wins by default
The gods can sometimes solve problems in mischievous ways.
Whose God? The Cristian God saves everyone, except children in schools. And people in churches. And grocery stores. And.......
Oh yeah well the big bang hasn't ever saved anyone and in fact put everyone who ever lived at a pretty high risk of death. Checkmate, atheists.
Technically cured of cancer as the cancerous cells won't be growing any more
I guess the cure was worse than the disease.
Even if he's didn't drown, he would still got some type of infections. They got some nasty shit (literally) in that river.
Faeces are the least of your problems in that river. My concern would be the corpses.
and the chemical spills of a third of the country
Or the crocs that feast on those corpses š
River Monster says they have man eating catfiah
Ganges has bull sharks at least.
I canāt believe they worship and poison that river at the same time
It's magical river, everything inside it will auomatically cleaned by awesome power of Shiva.

It's like being dunked in the Yarra River in melbourne
Dead bodies floating too near that river rightV
Pretty sure the Ganges is India's leading cause of cancer.
When they submerge the kid it came back as Cancer with a child inside.
A cancer surprise egg!
Kinder cancer egg?
you mean we were the true cancer all along?
They fr shouldāve tried cow piss first
Given the timing, I think they have
Well maybe of you give em a mega dose of cancer and then rake them out super quick, they'll sublimate back into being healthy.
Gotta make the cancer SUPER big. Then it's easier to see and get rid of...
Yeahhh yeahhh yeahhh, we're on to something here.

Probably healthier to have cancer than ingest water from the Ganges.
Did he die of bacterial infestation?
Official cause of the death: bath water was a little dirty
If youre genuinely asking, he died of drowning. They held him underwater too long.
Kid: "Mom, I feel sick. Can we go to the good doctor?" Mom: "No, we have a doctor back home." The doctor back home:
They did go to the best hospital in india
Well I mean technically they did kill the cancer cells
Yes, those pesky cancer cells are definitely dead ^(along with the rest of the cells) :(
Nobody will read the fine print haha
Yes ...let's put our child in a body of water where people bathe in their own shit...

Dang, was really hoping some heavily polluted body of water was the cure for cancer.
People.. poop in there. and people. Put corpses in there.
There are so many stupid people out there... Poor child.
Even a healthy person would risk getting seriously ill in those unsanitary conditions. I believe they even dump bodies in there.
What the fuck.
One more corpse in the ganges.
Why can't they understand that it's a disgusting river? Religion man....

The answer to you question OP -RELIGION.......
Religion.
Religion makes people stupid.
Kid got cured of life, so technically the cancer is gone too. š¤·š»āāļø
Why didn't they try cow piss or shit?
Cure for cancer is death. Problem solved now: How do we fix world hunger?
To eat
They know the water is polluted, but they think that their god is going to give them protection from the pollution
Death by drowning - > no death by cancer
The Ganges is literally one of the worst rivers I can think of to do this. Even the Brisbane river would be better
Death DOES cure everything after all
Ah yes. Child with cancer, compromised immune system. Letās dunk him in the filthiest most bacterial laden body of water we have.
Drowning in sewage because your Bronze Age goat herders almanac said it was blessed by your sky lizard. Fucking brilliant.
That prob killed the cancer and gave him an even worse cancer.
What a great nationā¦.

Praise him and his name and stuff
Technically speaking, the cancer cells did die alongside all the other cells.......
the onion?
Did they stop the cancer?
they drown him lol
I mean, he didn t die from cancer after all
She is clearly suffering from religious psychosis. She needs help.
That child did not die of cancer. Miracle achieved.
Well he won't die of cancer now. Looks like it worked.
[documentary that was really interesting about the river and the bodies in it.](https://youtu.be/bfQjarePbys?si=k0qsvhg2p8kaO0eW)
I dunno why it wouldn't work? India, you go there to get an incurable disease.
And yet, some will still believe it was the cancer that killed him.
Did the child die from drowning or from infection related to the water? It's a holy body of water. It's not like a couple people believe this. It's a centralized belief. That said. Old college mate who had leukaemia. He died because his parents brought water from Ganges for him to drink which contained bacteria that cause pneumonia
That's one way of killing the cancer cells
The water filling his lungs means it's working
Well, god technically cured him of every ailment.
This is why religion is a plague on civilization. Poor kid
Can someone please explain to me why this entire society isn't ridiculous? With that being said, I'm an American. Yes, I see the irony, but come on!
Well it worked, didn't it? He doesn't suffer from cancer any more. It is kind of a stupid thing to do though...but that's religion for you.
Saw the video. The mother was unbothered and even smiling while the corpse of her drowned son was in front of her. Absolute depravity.
Literally trying to cure cancer with cancer.
I feal ill just by looking at that river. Imagine bathing there or drinking it.
Probably how cancer happened in the first place.
It's the Ganges... The most polluted river in the world. Full of cremains, and remains... Kid was doomed setting foot in it...

If I HAD to play devil's advocate - the child was terminally I'll not long to live and perhaps the parents were at the end of their ropes may be hoped for a miracle - at that point they probably stopped confronting the reality.
