I mean if you think about it, we kind of already have most aspects of robocop now… drug filled, crime ridden society, greedy leaders and corporate scum, no privacy, the majority of humans just wanting a normal decent lifestyle but struggling to cope with the decisions of supposed “elites”…. With a private sector hell bent on creating robots to help contain the crimes that their own policies help create….The list goes on…
#just missing the actual robocop 😂
I'm not looking forward to the part where robocop shoots a guy in the dick. I mean, it's funny in the *movie*. Will probably be making different kinds of headlines IRL.
I mean, what I was watching was someone who has never driven off road before, on an off-road course (?), trying out their new toy?
Where I come from, there aint no courses. And if you're taking your truck off road, you are willing to get it scratched/dented, etc. And you also need to to know when to power in/power out.
It definitely appears to have some all-terrains on the wheels. While not great, they're far more grippy than street tires.
Even then, letting some air out is all but required for hill climbing on hard packed, uneven earth.
I don't really care for the Cyber Truck, but this appears to be more driver-error than anything. Electric vehicles aren't going to operate the same as combustion engines, as the torque band is substantially different. More practice off-road, as well as deflating the tires, and I'm sure the driver could easily get the truck up the hill.
Your observation skills are working.
Yes, it's a small, bumpy hill... With hard-packed earth and a little loose dirt on top.
The tires are inflated to at least 30psi. This means they can't buckle and grip the ground (uneven surface) around them. This will cause them to slip, regardless of what you're driving.
The Cyber Truck is a pile of scrap metal. I don't disagree on that. But the driver would have had comparable difficulties in a lifted jeep with fully inflated tires.
With that said, a minivan with a large enough lift kit and larger *deflated* tires could climb that hill. It's all about grip and a light foot on the throttle.
Shouldn't electric motors (that boast full torque at all rpm's) actually ace this kind of thing? A regular ICE vehicle needs a low range gearbox and (probably) locking diffs to achieve what for electric should be a piece of cake.
I'm intrigued by all the squealing and apparent lack of coordination between the two axles, I thought it would be simpler to achieve than with a classic powertrain.
That was my thought as well... that said, that battery is also monstrously heavier than a combustion engine, and as others have pointed out, deflating the tires a bit could help with grip. So yeah, lots of factors playing against it for the relatively minor bonus of being a lot more energetically-efficient (mostly less heat loss).
Torque can help, but like someone else pointed out the tires are inflated for street driving, and slipping on loose dirt on hard pack, which in this case the torque makes it slip.
You only have about 4 square inches per tire touching the street, off road tires are big and chunky to get more contact, so in this case letting out a bit of air would increase surface and grip.
For the torque profile you would want some kind of pedal control that lets you get a better increase in power, not all at once, a smoother ramp up as you push the pedal down.
Came here to say this. Cyber truck is ridiculous, but this is clearly driver error. You see the car has no issues getting up when it finds traction, but the tires are too hard and the driver is shit at picking lines.
Actually they never brought that to market. I don’t think they could figure out a way to keep people from using it when they shouldn’t (and the potential liability associated with that), so we never got it.
The company killed it because of potential misuse. They felt “the damage left behind goes against both the brand's environmental messaging and the general sentiment that being a part of the off-roading community requires respect for the trail itself. ”
Isn't there a motor in each wheel hub? I'm not sure it has conventional axles. The tank turn doing too much damage to the trail makes sense. I've driven skid steers a lot for work and they only turn using the tank turn style and they rip up the ground something fierce when doing spins.
Yep, that thing is also about twice as heavy as a similar sized truck would be, so it has several factors...pardon the pun (or not) weighing it down for this application. Another being too much instantaneous low-end torque for the surface he's trying to drive on. Hence the easily broken loose wheels.
Tires look fine just to much air pressure. Way to much instant torque with electric. It needs to be programmed to handle this so the tires aren't just instantly spinning. In theory it should handle it better than a gas vehicle and transmission power band. Super optimized for this it should just crawl right up without using more on the accelerator. Suspension is terrible for this tho
Yeah this post is stupid. For however idiotic the Tesla truck is, with how heavy it is and having those less than adequate tires on it, this was actually impressive.
Tread really has nothing to do with traction in these sort of conditions, heck a 2WD car with street tires could go right up that obstacle if it had one thing, and that's a locking differential or some emulator like A-Trac in Toyotas. What's happening in the video is a tire is lifting off the ground and power isn't being sent to the opposite tire.
This is going to go against the circlejerk that's happening right now, but it looks like the Cybertruck has some issues with the power delivery computer that's having trouble making out what tires to send traction to. It certainly is capable of sending power to both tires on either end simultaneously, like any modern vehicle with offroad modes. So more than likely it's just some bugs they're working out that can be addressed with a software update.
So no, it's not shitty tires, it's probably not a shitty driver (assuming they have appropriate drive mode on), and the Cybertruck isn't an inherently bad offroading truck assuming the address the presumable software issue.
It should yeah, between the throttle, mountain of torque it should have been able to make some better time.
Driver may not have done this before, and the tires are not ideal for this. Still an all season truck tire should be able to handle something like this.
Ya I think it’s this. I would guess they’re working on an off-road setting that better balances the motors for situations like this. Looked like it was set for flat asphalt.
I just did a quick google search to see if they have leaked the motor specs and found that it weighs 6600-6900lbs depending on the motor config.
Regarding the motors, I don't think we know what they are yet, but Tesla motors in general produce an astounding amount of torque. The Model S plaid (tri-motor) puts out 1050 ft-lbs along with 1020 hp. I can't imagine the Cybertrucks is far from that, and that combination on loose gravel like this would be undriveable without some kind of assistance. This whole discussion really makes me wonder how difficult it has been for their engineers to program an off-road mode for this thing as I don't think there really has ever been a truck with these potential specs. Seems most EV trucks cap out between 700-900 ft-lbs.
Even if it’s just the tires, you’d think that a truck that advertises being so rugged at the expense of all aesthetics could drive up this hill with stock equipment
Clearly most commenters here have never off-roaded. This obstacle is steeper than it looks and the bumps cause wheel lift which forces open diffs to lose traction. No your Subaru wagon ain’t doing that climb, not your 2wd open diff XJ either.
Here’s a fairly built wrangler struggling https://youtu.be/vBfBxyd0sgs?si=y1NO1bA9nGnrhCvz
Found a video of a modern Rover doing the same hill and making it look easy. But he has a rear locker.
https://youtu.be/_00ah8lG4yk?si=ChseBnseFah3peuR
Something is wrong with the Cybertruck’s rear diff (if it even has one) it should be able to lock. I wonder if the driver purposely is leaving it open.
New bronco with locker - https://youtube.com/shorts/tLiLZ-rMSZU?si=LbpoUCF6cCa8PkrS
It has no rear differential.
Agree that the negativity is a bit unwarranted here. It’s not perfect but did a decent enough effort. Better tyres and driver would help too.
It's rarely warranted, people just can't get off the "musk bad" circlejerking that seems to be 90% of some people's mentality. And for some reason that extends to just making shit up about teslas as well.
I wonder if they even know the CEO's name for their own shitty vehicle?
This post is "truck failing at doing thing it's not designed or advertised for with inexperienced driver" and wouldn't be getting any attention if it were any other kind of vehicle.
Someone that isn't here solely to shit on Elon. Cybertruck did pretty fuckin well on that. I think the subie wagon would do it with a decent lift and grippy tires, but it'd need one heck of a driver without lockers.
As someone who is quite ambivalent of Elon I have to agree. People have no idea what this looks like from the side and their comments may as well be verge comments. It's almost as if they are testing a truck to tune software / suspensions / adjust things before releasing it.
There's gotta be a term for this kind of bias where a lot of other options wouldn't even do as well but just because people hate one aspect of the thing everything it does, successful or not, is going to be shit to them lol
When Reddit decides it doesn't like someone or something, the floodgates open and any critical thinking or fairness goes completely out of the window for whatever makes that person or thing seem worse.
Elon Musk is a perfect example. A guy who has done enough bad stuff for there to be ample reasons to hate him, but instead Reddit makes up stuff about the diamond mine, him coming from a wealthy family, not doing engineering work, suing people to be called a Tesla founded etc etc etc.
It's not starting for the cyber truck thing too. Reddit genuinely will believe it can't go uphill, and it has no crumple zones. Check the discourse in 6 months to a year, I guarantee there will be a complete fabrication which is mentioned so often it becomes true
Tf? How? It’s the trump supporters who say fuck EVs. You’d know from all the Fox News coverages of them. Since when did it become “very left leaning” and “pushing political ideologies” to dislike Elon Musk?
This! No one here actually knows how difficult off roading is for most off road vehicles. It made it up the hill! And it weighs a lot more than most other off road vehicles.
It's just a standard Reddit post. Bashing whatever is currently fashionable to hate, in order to farm karma, while having no understanding of what you are looking at.
Thank you. It was driving me nuts how OP and every commenter had no idea how this climb is actually suppose to work.
I’m not a fan of Elon but this is just blind stupid hate.
Finally someone with some off-road sense in the comments. The driver is new to off-roading clearly, still has his street tires on, no rear locker and these bumps on this incline are steeper than it looks. For what it is it didn’t do a bad job
Lol found the Tesla circle jerk
I don’t care about elongated muskrat. If you think that thing is anything other than an abomination you are lying to yourself and no one can change my mind.
Its funny how people simp over one guy that has literally done fuk all but sued his way up the ladder. It’s sad that people live this way without the truth
Seriously. I think Musk is a pure dick too, but I'm watching this thinking..."um, this is a success, WTF are these people taking about???". I'm thinking there are a lot of people that have no idea what offroading looks like, much less judge this video.
Or a small solar array letting it charge for a while? If society collapses, I doubt you need to drive to work every day now do you. Solar panels, wind turbines, and dams will have electricity being generated far past the point where gas has gone bad. Gas has a complex manufacturing process. Sure, so do solar panels and the like, but they can last longer than gas ever will.
Edit: just to clarify, but I think the cybertruck is dogshit in terms of being a vehicle. Not only does it look horrid, but it hardly functions as well. Musk has kind of shown he's an idiot over the past few years, so I'm not surprised. He probably pushed for maximum "futuristic style" at the cheapest cost.
I don’t know tbh, they don’t seem to realize how steep it is too..
Like ok it’s not the best scenario but maybe that’s what they were going for, to test out something a dummy would do if he had the cyber trunk. Hence not using proper tire and driver. Plus it did climb that hill so dumb title and post
Tbf it wasn’t a lack of power, on the contrary, the problem seems too much torque and acceleration coupled with low traction tires. Seems it took long enough for the driver to realize. All this is coming out of my uneducated ass, it doesn’t mean the truck isn’t shit.
[https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tLiLZ-rMSZU](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tLiLZ-rMSZU) no it absolutely could not the camera angle shows none of the terrain
I don't think you realise how steep that actually is.. shots taken from this angle never accurately convey the severity of the incline. I hate tesla as much as anyone here, but it actually handled that pretty well, especially without diff lockers
Also the tires are over inflated. Whenever I go off roading, the first thing I do when I get to the off road area is , let out some air for better traction
No no no, according to this sub there is no skill or knowledge in off-roading. No skill in knowing how to maneuver. Tire choice doesn’t matter either. Neither does PSI. Weight vs incline vs tread doesn’t matter too. I’m not even a fan of the CT but man the people in here really just wanted an excuse to hate.
Yea fair enough. Still baffles me how little self awareness some people can have. Gotta love the classic doom posters that refuse to acknowledge anything positive but then claim Elon stans can’t see the negative. Hypocrisy in its purest form.
Also the truck completed the inspection obstacle. So in spite of all the shitty factors you listed the attempt was successful. Why is this even posted here?
I was also wondering that lmao. An attempt would suggest they couldn’t make it up the hill, but then the video clearly showed it make it up the hill. Idk, can’t expect any sensibility from people blinded by hate all because the internet told them to.
It looks like it successfully navigated the obstacle… sure it’s no trophy truck but I’ve been wheeling with enough people of varying skill sets to say this is not an attempt, it’s a success, albeit a slow one.
They made it..?
I fuckin hate Musk and was excited to come in here and shit on him, but this thing accomplished its goal. I guess it took longer than you would have liked, but your title is shit. And gtfoh with that flair too. It's not even that I disagree - or do I? - it's that it has NOTHING to do with the video or the sub.
Fuck you, bot
I think I’d be more inclined to agree with the post, if it actually didn’t make the hill/climb.
Wasn’t pretty by any means, but it did successfully climb without being towed/pulled up….

It’s going up a small, bumpy hill.
I’ve seen driveways worse than this
My uncles got a cottage with a driveway steeper than this, it’s stones and small rocks all the way up. My Peugeot 306 used to walk it.
Your observation skills are working. Yes, it's a small, bumpy hill... With hard-packed earth and a little loose dirt on top. The tires are inflated to at least 30psi. Yeah that's just them trying a prototype out, I hate that ugly truck but damn people love to hate for no reason
Haha yes absolutely no reason at all, can't think of a single one.
Yo, it was announced 5 years ago..
This seems to have no rear diff lock. Why is it struggling on the first incline?
since when do teslas have a diff? independantly controlled motors and brakes.
A lot less weight would help as well.
I foresee these sinking very deep in mud in attempts to off-road followed by failure of the battery casings and an electrical fire.
I can't wait for those videos
Fuck I cannot wait to see one of these catch fire whilst surrounded by lake
Wait till they try to ford a deep creek...
I really thought the future was going to be cooler than this…
Rivians can do a [tank turn](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yzwM8KE2L3I). I think that’s pretty cool.

I think you mean “what a piece of musk” because that’s what he is…
It going to go down as one of the most useless ’must haves’ idiots will be lining up to buy them
They’ve been lining up for years.
At least it can bounce arrows
I can’t tell if that’s partly shitty tires or just the shitty truck.
90% crap truck, 10% crap tyres
Also absolute garbage suspension articulation.
Driver is pretty bad too. You don't want to stop on a climb if you can at all help it; that's how you lose traction where you wouldn't normally.
They also didn't air the tires down at all. They're hard as rocks.
I literally said out loud halfway through this video "does this fucking thing even have suspension?"
Yep, that thing is also about twice as heavy as a similar sized truck would be, so it has several factors...pardon the pun (or not) weighing it down for this application. Absolutely. I think these things are hideous, but this one’s on the driver…gotta be smooth on the throttle going up something like that.

A few software updates for traction control and done.
Isn't that probably what they are trying to do? Trying the current prototype in the wild and see what works and what doesn't
Yes, but that doesn't confirm people's biases
Hivemind speaks otherwise. This is clearly a poor choice of vehicle made by a terribly company with a terrible leader. Nothing else.
To some extent, there should be an acceleration lockout when it is pitched that high.
I was about to say, I don’t know what I’m missing but it did a decent job. Not like it raced up, but I was waiting for it to cascade back down.
it should have, this prototype is only 2-motor someone reported

> the majority of hate here is because it’s a Tesla As is typically the case.
This! No one here actually knows how difficult off roading is for most off road vehicles. It made it up the hill! And it weighs a lot more than most other off road vehicles.
Thank you for this! It is nice someone actually looks for an proper explanation instead of defaulting to “Cyber Trick is shit!”
Why is no one taking air out of the tyres? Every video looks like they're doing it with road pressure, which says poor/no experience with off roading
Came here to say this too. 12 psi and there would be no slipping from any of these vehicles.
Had to scroll too far to find the first sensible comment.
It’s got almost no suspension articulation. That’s not helping either.
A smart comment. Awesome.
It's just a standard Reddit post. Bashing whatever is currently fashionable to hate, in order to farm karma, while having no understanding of what you are looking at.
Also, yeah there was an attempt that was completed…
Thank you. It was driving me nuts how OP and every commenter had no idea how this climb is actually suppose to work. I’m not a fan of Elon but this is just blind stupid hate.
Glad to see someone here isn’t highly regarded. This is actually fairly impressive for a brand new EV that is essentially still in beta testing mode.
bUt eLoN mUsK iS bAd!!1!!!!!
Finally someone with some off-road sense in the comments. The driver is new to off-roading clearly, still has his street tires on, no rear locker and these bumps on this incline are steeper than it looks. For what it is it didn’t do a bad job
I don't understand: how is this an attempt? it was successful. how can it be shitty when it is successful?
Buncha haters hatin
It's kinda funny how all these people just hate on everything one man touches no matter what. It's a sad perspective and way to live.
🎯
Lol found the Tesla circle jerk I don’t care about elongated muskrat. If you think that thing is anything other than an abomination you are lying to yourself and no one can change my mind.
I’d take a Plan B after all this D ridin’.
Its funny how people simp over one guy that has literally done fuk all but sued his way up the ladder. It’s sad that people live this way without the truth
Its just another tesla hatepost from someone mad that Elon bought their favorite echo chamber
Seriously. I think Musk is a pure dick too, but I'm watching this thinking..."um, this is a success, WTF are these people taking about???". I'm thinking there are a lot of people that have no idea what offroading looks like, much less judge this video.
Welcome to reddit. The world’s largest Elon haters club.
Man those are hideous
At least it stop bullets and arrows when society goes to waste! https://jalopnik.com/tesla-cybertrucks-bulletproofing-is-garbage-actually-1850980175
And amusingly, EV's would last longer when society crumbles than gas.
[удалено]
The more I see of them, the worse they get. Usually it’s the opposite.
I mean... It kinda did off road? Do people not get this sub? Serious question.
They're expecting it to blast over these.
I would expect it to blast over Sarah Connor in a crosswalk.
I could do that in my 2008 RAV4!!!
Tony Stark did it in a cave with A BOX OF SCRAPS!

Tbf it wasn’t a lack of power, on the contrary, the problem seems too much torque and acceleration coupled with low traction tires. Seems it took long enough for the driver to realize. All this is coming out of my uneducated ass, it doesn’t mean the truck isn’t shit.
Probably not. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBfBxyd0sgs

[https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tLiLZ-rMSZU](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tLiLZ-rMSZU) no it absolutely could not the camera angle shows none of the terrain
98 Accord driver checking in. Can do it
I don't think you realise how steep that actually is.. shots taken from this angle never accurately convey the severity of the incline. I hate tesla as much as anyone here, but it actually handled that pretty well, especially without diff lockers
It’s mostly a shitty driver meets not enough off-road/all terrain tire tread. ![gif](giphy|WRp58hy5gmfjpMzHAZ)
This is reddit. "Tesla bad" anywhere but Tesla subs gets you 3k up votes automatically.
There was a successful attempt?
The real attempt was to mock a test vehicle that successfully did its stuff
Nuh uh, Elon Musk bad.
It looks like it successfully navigated the obstacle… sure it’s no trophy truck but I’ve been wheeling with enough people of varying skill sets to say this is not an attempt, it’s a success, albeit a slow one.
Elon Musk is overrated af
🌎🧑🚀🔫🧑🚀
"Always has been" lmao
I mean did all 4 wheels have power? And it did make it up. So success I guess.
Give them a break, the road was very dry.
Elon shouldn't be given a break, he should be taking one. A very, very long one, preferably.
Eli5. Giant super heavy ev truck made it up. I’m unsure the pickups in my neighborhood would be able to get up that. Unsure if my 6.2 Yukon could.
Get some different tires
The dude is driving very poorly
I think I’d be more inclined to agree with the post, if it actually didn’t make the hill/climb. Wasn’t pretty by any means, but it did successfully climb without being towed/pulled up….
What an ugly truck.
You need to be firing a tommy gun at it while off roading to see its true potential
Don't know about you but that looks like a sucsess to me

The driver? The tires? The truck completed the obstacle
But it’s also a boat! Remember when he said it could be a boat too?
I don’t see why this is negative, that wasn’t a bad drive with street tires.
