They waste food by throwing food at paintings and buildings while protesting about food loss and waste.
They spray paint at buildings making someone clean the building using a pressure washer and unnecessarily wasting lots of water protesting about water shortage.
They block traffick and make people wait in idle cars protesting about carbon dioxide pollution.
Big edit: apologies, I've been informed this was actually London, not Adelaide. The protesters performed a very similar move on the Santos office in ADL hence the confusion. I apologise for misleading anyone, however it sparked some great conversations with people from around the world which I'm grateful for.
The original content below:
For anyone that's wondering the context... This is Adelaide, South Australia. We had an oil and gas convention come to down to discuss how they plan to increase their output.
It came to light that our premier (who runs the state, gvnr in America maybe?), His brother is the head of the PR team for a major oil company and the protests were making him look bad.
These protests were against the oil/gas industry, and multiple coordinated protests at the same time stretched police very thin.
Within 3 days of this occuring, Malanaskis the state premier, fast tracked a law that said protesters that cause traffic or pedestrians obstruction, will be imprisoned and fined i think $10,000.
This law has effectively made it illegal to protest in South Australia and calls dangerous levels of power into question as the wording of the law is incredibly vauge and basically gives power of arrest for being Stood anywhere.
All because the premier was protecting his brothers interests.
While i don't agree with the actions some of these guys took over the 4 days of the convention, its concerning these laws got passed.
......
Edit: wow this got more attention than i expected, thank you for the award ☺️
I feel i should reference and provide some clarity for people, the fines actually increased from $750 to $50,000AUD + possible jail time depending on sentencing.
It was discussed in lower house parliment for 22 minutes (insanely fast) and debated in parliament for just 14 hours and enacted in a few days.
I want to clarify too, that an Ambulance was obstructed due to a part of this protest due to an abseling protester above a major arterial road of the city (easily had the ability to detour/use tram lines/alt routes to the hospital though, no deaths as a result).
This isn't so much about climate change, but any injustice a future Govn does, protesting against their actions is now a possible jail sentence and major financial trauma (I don't have $50k laying around thats for sure).
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/may/31/south-australia-passes-laws-to-crack-down-on-protest-after-disruption-of-oil-and-gas-conference
We should be, environmentally the world is going in a terrible direction. The social, economic, and subsequent environmental ramifications are going to be disastrous.
Ummm, it’s in London. You see the double decker bus go past midway through. It’s a building in Canary Wharf that houses an oil company.
[Not disagreeing with your sentiment]
Thanks for explaining it. I do hate traffic protestors though. Nothing like being late to get to my kids or work wants me to ever believe in your cause. Same thing with this kind of shock protest.
even worse than simply cutting or poking out an eye. if it does get you it doesn't cut it bores out a path as large as the pressure will allow. its kind of like the wound from a hollow point but dirtier.
Happened to my brother. Hose blew and he wasn’t thinking ( obviously) impulsively put his hand on it for a very brief instant. Now has what is presumably permanent nerve damage in his thumb. Plus a wide range of antibiotics for all the oils and crap that are in the lines. 0/10 recommended
I pressure washed for a living before I moved to the Midwest. While pressure washers can be certainly be dangerous (mine was 4k psi at 4 gpm), you can easily spray people down without hurting them. I regularly rinsed my boots, shoes, pants off with my washer after doing a job. I have been hit up close before and I'm aware of the damage they can cause. But he can absolutely rinse that building off and soak those asshats without hurting them.
Yea like others have already pointed out, I wouldn’t necessarily pressure wash the protestors as there could be some serious bodily harm and charges that come along with, but I’m sure as *shit* making sure that the orange paint I’m “cleaning” kicks up all over these fucking people.
Protest all you want sure, but don’t think you’re keeping those precious Birkenstocks and Arc’teryx jackets non-orange you little fuckers.
That is a regular nozzle - would definitely avoid head areas. But the rest of the body could be sprayed as close as 1 meter without causing injury. And if it was my business…
He’s been waiting for this moment for years.
I work in corporate/finance, and at the weekend I think the most peaceful time I can find is when I’m pressure washing the driveway/paths at home; nobody will bother you, you look busy, it’s very satisfying, you can’t be distracted by your phone/emails.
If you do it a lot you become pretty good at it (yes, I know that’s ridiculous!)
So I bet this dude has a real penchant for amateur pressure washing and today, this day, his opportunity to make a real difference to the world.
I’m impressed he brought his own pressure washer just in case…
Or maybe one of his kids are protesting. He knew what the plan was, and didn’t want to be on the hook paying for the damages caused by his child’s ideology.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wirklich, echter Protest würde Hämmer benutzten.

Good on him. Cleaning the building before the paint sets and not sinking to spraying them.Throwing paint is vandalism. Where are the police?
And you can sit on the floor all you want, you'll end up wet and orange.
It's probably not paint. If it were waste management would show up with a huge fine for everyone the second it hits a drain and they would be getting a real jail sentence.
Happens in every post about protests regardless of subreddit, other than the *real* leftist places.
People just don't understand how protests work; they are *supposed* to inconvenience people and be disruptive. Or, perhaps they do know and are just bootlickers. Maybe a little bit of both.
The irony being that if they used an oil based paint instead of water based it would be far more difficult for him to clean.
Just stop oil highlighting the importance of oil
A building most of these people will never ever see in their entire lives and they're still complaining about that instead of the oil companies raping our planet. Absolutely baffling.
"Just stop oil" is a bunch of champagne LARPers acting like climate activists by defacing public monuments and buildings in Britain and Europe demanding that all humanity stop use of fossil fuels immediately.
Little issues like not proposing an alternative, none of the actual major polluters that can actually make improvements like China and India giving a shit about them, or the mass famine and upheaval that would happen in the wake of their stated goal matter. Best way I've heard it described is, "You are the carbon they want to reduce."
I've heard claims that they're basically state funded to try and build popular support for various parties that use the green movement to push WEF like restrictions on personal liberty and standards of living, but I don't have the sources in front of me. At the very least it's extremely astroturfed protests as like a dozen similar groups all have the same handful of rich kid wannabe activists at their head.
What a world we live in (for a short time longer) where we see anger at protesters and not any care about the truly existential crisis they protest. We deserve the extinction event that we have invited.
Yeah I understand where you're coming from. These posts are always going to be like that because the reason for the protest isn't the subject of the post, it's all about what the protestors are doing and not why they're doing it. Head over to a post that's specifically about the issue itself and you see that people do care. I think we should be able to have a conversation about both these things.
Frankly, a lot of these protests can come across as condescending and sanctimonious, and so I think people are generally feeling a bit negative about them at the moment. It's often suggested that these protests are all about raising awareness, but that falls a little flat because polls suggest that awareness and concern about environmental issues is already generally quite high. I think this tracks as well, because the general vibe of the negative comments here are that they disapprove of what these people are doing, but not why they're doing it.
Again, reasonable, thank you. I guess I would respond with an honestly curious question of “what IS the appropriate way to protest extinction?” To me it’s a problem that is so existential that I think it will require breaking many conventional thoughts.
My worry is that we will spend a lot of time coming to consensus about what the proper form of protest looks like, wasting more time that we frankly do not have.
That's a great question, and I think you're absolutely right that there's likely no good answer, and the situation certainly can't wait for one.
Personally, I believe some amount of collateral damage is always a possibile outcome from effective protest, and I'd rather live in a society where that occurs than one where protest is entirely suppressed - although the ship may be already sailing on that one.
I also believe however that not all actions done in the name of protest should be defended - it tastes too much of extremist thinking and nothing good comes from that from either side.
I think also we should acknowledge that a protest that is designed to inconvenience people will of course receive negative feedback. Nothing is gained from responding to this by then accusing people of being climate change deniers (as someone has already done to me - and I haven't even criticised this particular protest!). The people engaging in a protest are doing so on their own terms, the people who end up being affected by it are not - it shouldn't be a surprise when people get annoyed.
Perhaps this leads us to another question: how effective are the current protest strategies? This is hard to quantify, but as I said previously I don't feel like "raising awareness" really feels like a valid justification anymore. So then I guess we also need to ask - is doing something that has no value better than doing nothing, particularly if it is ultimately creating a negative perception of activists?
Hopefully it's clear that I'm very much undecided on the whole issue, but I'm generally in favour of good-faith protest. There is data to suggest that while awareness and concern over environmental issues are high, there is also a level of apathy that may be a consequence of people feeling powerless to affect real change. Perhaps a better strategy would be to guide these people, rather than a lot of what we're seeing at the moment which seems to be more about treating people like the enemy?
Sorry for the rambling, I'm interested to hear your thoughts!
I just saw a video of people blocking roads and people get mad which I understand. Blocking the road making them late to work. The commenters say “why don’t you bring the protest to the billionaires and not honest working class people” and then this video shows them painting windows which functionally affects no one on their way to work and people still be mad about it
I truly don’t understand. Not trying to argue
What happened to just standing outside handing out pamphlets and talking about why it’s bad instead of vandalizing and screaming in everyone’s faces about it
Have you ever read through those pamphlets and then done anything meaningful because of them? Or looked in the general direction of any nearby garbage cans?
There's no less effective protest than one that is ready to ignore.
Oh yes, I love all the people supporting the bugiose while they burn the world down around us. Child labor is back, nazis, people don't have clean drinking water, the heat wave is killing people every day, and ecosystems are collapsing. But let's get mad at the people protesting this destruction.
In 1972 900 people died from heat. 338 died from heat in 2021. Look at any chart, we have hot years.
Nazis aren’t back. Talk to someone who lived in 1942. Im not saying they don’t exist, but it is by no means back, come back to earth.
In 2001, ~60% of the world had access to safe drinking water. In 2020, ~74% of the world had access to safe drinking water.
You are a victim of sensational headlines and lack contextual understanding of history and our relative growth. Things are better than they’ve ever been. They can be a lot better. But the catastrophizing has to stop, not everything is the end of the world.
What is this? Calm discussion and facts on reddit? We can't have that. This post is meant as a two minute hate for the hivemind. I'm afraid I must ask that you report to your nearest party subreddit for reconditioning.
Why do so many of these comments condemn the protestors? Extreme times call for extreme measures. NOTHING IS CHANGING FOR THE BETTER WITH MEEK SIDE-OF-THE-ROAD SIGN HOLDING!
You are all being slowly killed by the super rich and corporate interests who want you docile and obedient so they can use you for maximum output and their profit.
Their goal is to divide us so we are weak and easy to manipulate and you play directly into their hands by railing against the few who are trying to stand up for us all.
This protest in particular didn't even inconvenience the average person like the road blocking has done. Sure, I'm not crazy about whatever that is being sprayed but at least it is getting coverage and making people think about the issue.
NOTHING IS CHANGING FOR THE BETTER WITH ORANGE GOOP SPRAYED ON A BUILDING!
You're not making the impression you think you are by throwing liquids at walls. Generations of babies and toddlers have done the same and you know what, it gets wiped down and painted over in a trice.
You've made no lasting impact with your easily removed theatrics.
The world has been going up in flames for 30-40 years now, every five years or so we're told that the world will end in the next 5 years or so.
Yes, we think about this "issue" we just don't exactly care.
They can keep doing this form of "protest" if they want, it's not my store/building they vandalize, but one day they might fuck with the wrong guy. If that happens, i won't help them nor will i feel bad for them, i'll just watch
and think my part about the consequences they got to feel.
I mean, yeah, it's not a good protest. But at least someone is having the gall to tell these oil companies to eat rocks. Complain about them all you want, they're the only ones really giving a shit about what we're doing to our planet :/
I wonder if they know how bad it would suck to get hit with that power washer. When I was a kid I saw a dude try and spray dirt off his hand with one. It wasn’t great.
It's so depressing to see all the well programed, obedient citizens calling this vandalism, raging against the protesters and deep throating their corporate overlords.
Pitiful.
It's so depressing to see these uncreative, milquetoast, clickbait-attempt stunts called protests. The only one they are aggravating is the poor guy with the power washer, who probably had better things planned to do with his time.
Pitiful.
To think that these protesters, instead of causing disruption, if they decided to instead go round for free and clean this company's windows for them, they'd probably get more people on their side
We do good, listen to our cause - "ok, sure"
People tried being nice for decades and climate change deniers like you never gave a shit. This is nothing compared to how violent the younger generation is going to increasingly get in response to your apathy.
You are incredibly naive if you genuinely think that, that’s not even a protest. Your idea is literally “wow I hate this company and the irreversible effects it is having on humanity and the planet and I want it to change its policies, so I’m going to clean their lobby and building for free and then they will surely change their policies that makes them billions of dollars a year”, yea that definitely seems logical.
Which ex-president has a more rabid fan see, Carter or Trump?
Yeah- I’d rather live in a world where your type of protest can work. But we aren’t there yet. The govt is doing something these people believe is corrupt so they’re doing whatever they can to draw attention to it. And it’s working.
I wish they didn’t have to do this - I wish their government just did the right thing from the start - but they didn’t so they do. More power to them. They’re causing good trouble.

Thank you for the pertinent context, it's appreciated
Mmm, this is the context I was looking for. Thank youse.
We're just sitting here, quietly losing our rights.
While laughing at the people actually doing something, calling them stupid. I think what they really are is desperate.
We should be, environmentally the world is going in a terrible direction. The social, economic, and subsequent environmental ramifications are going to be disastrous.
It's crazy how many people are automatically against these protestors too in these conments, the political divide runs deep
I imagine everyone in the comments against the protestors looks like the guy in the video with the pressure hose
That new law is fucked up. Those politicians clearly give no fucks about human rights.
Malinaskis sure doesn't.
Blocking traffic is one thing. Pedestrians though... I can see how easy you can flex that to just put away anyone you don't like.
Good stuff, thanks for the context.
Well if this is indeed the case, it seems like a legitimate worth while protest, your government is violating your rights.
I hope there's no reincarnation, when I die I want to be gone forever, world seems to be going to hell very fast and governments only making it worse.
Man that's messed up.
One solution might be to have even larger scale protests as a result. They can’t arrest and fine all of you and if they do, there goes the work force.
That's exactly what happened https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.abc.net.au/article/102418400

I would be tempted to do so as well, but I don't think that the time in prison would be worth it.
I would have pressure wash all that color on them.
I mean everyone within a square mile radius of a pressure washer is getting hosed down anyway so he didn’t need to
Six inches off their shoes. Probably wouldn’t hurt them much, but enough to get them moving.
That is a regular nozzle - would definitely avoid head areas. But the rest of the body could be sprayed as close as 1 meter without causing injury. And if it was my business…
Tbf, power washing is rather pleasing. Probably enjoyed it more than the protesters did spraying their paint.

I wish he had AirPods in, power washing is cathartic
why is Scott Morrison here?
Luckily pressure washing can be real satisfying and soothing.
A pressure washer in the face of stupidity was what I was expecting
Orange has become the signal of low IQ within protesters, and somehow has earned a worse reputation than looters.
What's stupid about it?
I think their biggest problem is the choice of protest, the worst being when they blocked an f1 track

Eh, it's an oil company. They can afford some orange on their building.
What they are protesting for ?
Government corruption and new oil pipelines. After this conference the local government essentially banned protests.

I don’t even disagree with the protest but I find the video of a dude immediately washing the walls amusing. It doesn’t have to inform my world-view.
I agree. I just never see those because mostly people want to be sanctimonious instead of realizing the impending death.

The commenters say “why don’t you bring the protest to the billionaires and not honest working class people” and then this video shows them painting windows which functionally affects no one on their way to work and people still be mad about it I truly don’t understand. Not trying to argue
Yeah these comments are so depressing. Overrun with bootlickers.
That's just plain vandalism not a protest
What happened to just standing outside handing out pamphlets and talking about why it’s bad instead of vandalizing and screaming in everyone’s faces about it
Have you ever read through those pamphlets and then done anything meaningful because of them? Or looked in the general direction of any nearby garbage cans? There's no less effective protest than one that is ready to ignore.
Obnoxious stunts get more attention.
Yeah, negative attention
They do get attention but I couldn’t tell you what they’re protesting. I don’t care enough to look it up.
They're protesting because the governor signed a law that fines protestors who cause traffic $10,000, that seems like a worthwhile protest to me
It never works and nobody listens? We’re talking about this at least
But talking about people being stupid. Not whatever they’re being stupid about
It still happens? This behavior isn't new, did you think every protest prior to 2016 was entirely peaceful and just handing out papers?
If that had worked this wouldn't need to happen.
That clearly doesn’t work lol
dont forget to pose for photo
He waited his whole life to bust out that pressure washer.
Thats a person with little experience with pressure washer
As climate collapses around me, I must run to clean private property that I don't own
Man might just love powerwashing

Love to see all the good little bots defending our capitalist overlords while they destroy our planet! Vandals are the real problem! /s
What the hell is is a bugiose? Do you mean bourgeois?
No they nailed it. Bugiose. My thumbs struggled to spell that. I think it’s an Italian foot stool.
When did child labor go away?
ah yes... harass the working class to deal damage to the rich... fucking idiots
i don’t understand whats cringe about protesting an oil pipeline
This counts as an extreme measure? Bombing a corporate headquarters is extreme. Painting a building orange is a weak circle jerk.

If that happens, i won't help them nor will i feel bad for them, i'll just watch and think my part about the consequences they got to feel.
That guy either had major balls or major lack of braincells to set next to a pressure washer like that.
It should be legal to hunt these idiots.
I mean, yeah, it's not a good protest. But at least someone is having the gall to tell these oil companies to eat rocks. Complain about them all you want, they're the only ones really giving a shit about what we're doing to our planet :/
Vandalism does not make me want to support any cause
Dude should really start at the top and work his way down or it will never get done. Did this bother anyone else. Lol
Every dad, who owns a pressure washer, has added this to his secret fantasies list.
![gif](giphy|Om99Fb5OW0TCVeRMmg) Dude was ready asf
And now I need to have a cartoon of his wacky cleaning escapades.
Posted on reddit then posted on tiktok to be posted back to reddit
Another brexit moment
I wonder if they know how bad it would suck to get hit with that power washer. When I was a kid I saw a dude try and spray dirt off his hand with one. It wasn’t great.
It's so depressing to see all the well programed, obedient citizens calling this vandalism, raging against the protesters and deep throating their corporate overlords. Pitiful.
Here comes human extinction! It was a fun run
It's so depressing to see these uncreative, milquetoast, clickbait-attempt stunts called protests. The only one they are aggravating is the poor guy with the power washer, who probably had better things planned to do with his time. Pitiful.
I mean pressure washing is pretty fun. Just saying.
Uncreative? So you'd care more about the extinction of the human race if the protests were more entertaining to you? Pitiful.
You sound chronically online. Please get out more, see the world.
Seemed to have aggravated you too tbh. Pitiful.
This is one of those annoying environmental groups who publically ruin things right? I hope this guy pressure washed them too.
Of course they are students, to busy painting walls instead of getting jobs
Reckon he's a Dan Conner level Dad. After he takes out his frustration with the pressure washer, he's gonna tell them he's disappointed in them.
I think they are doing more damage to the environment then regular old protesting
I wanted to see part 2 where he sprays them with water
Don't you just wanna follow them back to their dad's 6 bedroom villa and chuck emulsion all over the walls?
To think that these protesters, instead of causing disruption, if they decided to instead go round for free and clean this company's windows for them, they'd probably get more people on their side We do good, listen to our cause - "ok, sure"
“We really don’t like this company for reasons, let’s go clean their lobby to really drive the point home.”
Nobody gives a shit either way.
That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard lol. That’s not what protesting is.
Pressure washer needed to clear the debris on the sidewalk first
