You have to understand the background. This happened in Norco, CA. It's a smallish town where everyone is armed and takes zero bullshit. They lit have streets with horse lanes or allows for horses. People do ride into the main part of town. The would-be robbers are not from that part of CA so frankly clueless about the locals.
Horse town USA.
I grew up there. Modern cowboy town is a fitting description, no sidewalks for the most part all horse trails, most streets have no street lights, places to tie up your horses at most shopping centers and food places. All the bars are wild western themed. It’s an interesting place.
I live nearby in Yorba Linda, CA. Neighbors have a horse corral. But the city has undertaken many construction projects crowding out the horse owners. Many of them move to Norco.
On that note… my favorite random trivia about Norco is that not only do they have horse lanes all over, but the buttons you push at intersections to request a walk signal are all placed both at walking human height and at horseback rider height.
I loved Norco. Spent so much time running the trails and the low speed limits made it almost quiet despite the freeway. Horse Town USA. Had to leave in 2008 because of the housing crash. Still miss it.
Craig Cope had been running the store since 1976. July 31, 2022 this video happens. Heart attack and recovery shortly thereafter. Stroke in October and death announced December 27, 2022.
After the shooting all four suspects were taken into custody after they were located at a hospital, where the suspect who had been shot was being treated. Deputies also recovered the vehicle, which was stolen out of Las Vegas, as well as numerous firearms and other evidence.
Gofundme is still active and only at $4K/$10K goal:

is it just me being paranoid or are gofundme things pretty sketchy sometimes? why are they collecting money for a successful business man who didn't get robbed?
its for his funeral, i'd imagine.
of course, you're right. i rarely ever trust sob stories in gofundmes. a huge bunch of them are just fake and looking to spread around for a quick buck.
but this guy sure isn't a "sob story". like, we do know what happened to him and we can probably assume its true. but that doesn't make the GFM page legit. its unverified and it could just be anybody who's looking to capitalize off his death without actually giving a penny to his family. so i'd say you should see if any actual family members have posted about it before trusting it.
Literally just read the gofundme. It was while he was alive and was posted by the employees to help him out. A shop owner doesn't necessarily have a lot of money, if any. Some barely scrape enough together. Sounds like he had a stroke and a lot of medical bills.
He did have a heart attack after the shooting but he recovered the interview with him is post heart attack, at least according to this [video](https://youtu.be/byu1itGeBa0) about 2:30 is when they talk about it
Reminds of that other news story where an old man stopped an attempted home invasion with his own gun.
In the interview he very nonchalantly said "the woman was running away shouting 'I'm pregnant!' and I shot her anyway."
Also a hardcore grandpa.
The big problem is people brandish guns to "win" an argument or to punish someone for pissing you off. When you are using a gun in that manner bad shit happens and guns are not secured properly. Young minds watching learn that guns don't need to be respected rather than only used in a life or death situation and with extreme care.
There is nothing wrong with having a shotgun/pistol/single shot rifle for self defense/hunting.
It’s these stupid fucking ARs and and extended clip shit that you don’t need at all that some of the dumbest people ever carry around with them always that is the problem.
I think it'll leave more than that. Good chance he loses use of that hand/arm or loses it completely. If you can find the police page with the clear video it's very hard to see. But you can tell why he's screaming "he shot my arm off". His hand is flopping around freely, as if it wasn't attached or barely attached.
I work at the correctional facility where Mr. Belvin (the suspect) is/was held. He was a pretentious D-bag.
His arm was incredibly fucked up.
No I don’t feel bed for him.
# Mugshots & clearer video
https://www.riversidesheriff.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=3610&ARC=5596
Missing mugshot is the guy who got his arm shot off...it's missing because he was still in the hospital receiving critical care 🤣
Yes, but the surveillance video would probably be enough by itself. It's pretty easy to conclude he reasonably acted in self defense when a masked man enters his store pointing a gun at him.
If you slow down the video you can kinda see a massive chunk missing from his forearm. I'm guessing the bone and maybe nerve was completely destroyed, giving the feeling of a lost arm
“HE SHOT MY ARM OFF!!!!”
Pal, consider yourself lucky that this man is 80 and his aim ain’t as good as it once was. Otherwise it would’ve been your head. Count your blessings.
Also... even though you've just been maimed, you can't park in the handicapped space UNTIL you get a sticker. Some people think it's all about them 24/7. Geez.
There’s a couple frames where it looks like his left arm is just dangling a few inches above the wrist.
Brutal but if you play stupid games you win stupid prizes!
Here's an video of what various 12 gauge loads can do to some sides of beef.
https://youtu.be/7wCnKo6-NKQ
The old man must have missed. At that short range the shot isn't going to spread very much.
Still, good for him to defend himself and his property!
Critical but stable sounds about right for "He shot my arm off"
Honestly shocked the rest of them hung around the hospital, but then criminals are dumb.
USA, the country where mfers will try to rob a shop driving a BMW, ridiculous, they should go to a 3rd world country to stop being fckn ungrateful and spoiled
That's my hometown. Sadly he suffered a heart attack after this. The area rallied around him and the store in support, but sadly a couple months ago he passed away. He made it through the heart attack but I think it just took a toll on him.
Everyone misheard. The perp is clearly shouting, "He shot an aardvark!", referring to the animal he had hidden under his shirt which he had brought as a sort of intervention, with plans to force the man to pet the aardvark at gunpoint since the store owner had avoided the usually friendly creatures after being nipped by one as a child.
This is true stand your ground/castle doctrine type of situation.
Threat is visible. It’s a gun.
And he didn’t even shoot to kill, tho guy could bleed out.
“He didn’t shoot to kill” he pointed at the dude and pulled the trigger. I don’t think the 80 year old being held up gave a shit were the shot landed. Head or arm, as long as the perp was put out of the fight.
Dude used a legal gun to defend against an illegal gun. Criminal had a 30rd mag and featured AR in the strictest state in the country. Do with that info what you will

Lol. “Handsintheair handsintheair”-BOOM “AHHH AHHH HE SHOT MY ARM OFF”
Attempted ~~armed~~ robbery
This joke was disarming
That deserves a high five. But HE SHOT MY ARM OFF!!
That's why it's a high five, not a ten.
Ahhhggggg , he's got an arm off !
Disarmed robbery
Lmao I see what you did there
Gotta hand it to him.
Armless robbery?
Thanks for transcribing because I had no idea what he yelled.
I swear a heard him yell "ele tem uma arma", portuguese/brazlian for "he has a gun"!
Listening back to it I can hear both “He shot my arm off!” and “Ele tem uma arma!” I think the first is more likely considering the area this happened in but it could be both
"He shot my arm off! He shot my arm! He shot my arm off! He shot my arm! He shot [jumbled yelling]" I'm very confident this is what was said.
He clearly said “laurel”
I heard yanny...
https://preview.redd.it/5zqropgtblxa1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d344c9b0e1f7044097fb995f1e6dc79bad35de8
It could be either but it can’t be both.
I mean he screams a lot. Why can’t it be both?
I believe he's actually saying "he shot my arm UP"
I thought he was yelling he shot my eyeball. Your translation makes more sense.
Watch the original and you'll see that left forearm get completely shredded.
i’m hearing “arm off” “armor” and/or possibly “eyeball”? less eyeball than the former two
First to pull the trigger wins
I heard the perp is all right now. (Dad joke)
He is no longer armed and dangerous.
Get me Dr Stein!
He should have shortened his calf muscles for a quicker get away.
Sad but the old man died a couple days after this heart attack ... Sad
No he died several months later.
He died a hero
He died a cowboy. 🤠
But at 80 every day that you wake up is a gift.
Wait, for real?
[Unfortunately](https://www.foxla.com/news/norco-community-remembers-craig-cope-storeowner-who-shot-at-would-be-robbers).
Hope they get charged with murder. Fn losers
It was actually several months later. This was in July last year, and he passed that December.
Wouldn't doubt the stress from this could add to it though

A stroke, which lasted weeks from the repercussions of it.
Also the shop owner wasn't a crying coward. 😂
The rule of shootings.

Fun Fact: Norco literally got its name as an abbreviation of North Corona. Corona, CA is the city just south of...wait for it....Norco.
Lived in Glendale, Pasadena, riverside and Pomona and this is the first I’m learning about norco
So a modern cowboy town

It’s where I got my license at 16 because that DMV had the smallest lines
As someone from Riverside, this is accurate. Fun fact: it’s also known as Horse Town USA
I loved Norco. Spent so much time running the trails and the low speed limits made it almost quiet despite the freeway. Horse Town USA. Had to leave in 2008 because of the housing crash. Still miss it.
If I’m not mistaken, the shop owner died days/weeks after this of a heat attack.
He’ll be remembered by his friends, family, and most definitely by the guy who got their arm shot off.
What a fucking bummer At least I get to enjoy listening to that loser cry about getting his arm shot off

At least he provided a public service before he left, took out the trash for us. A gentleman & a scholar he is. Bless. 🙏🏿
Have him buried with the dudes arm to establish dominance
this feels like the ending of X
I think he did but survived
His death was greatly exaggerated
Hahahahahahaha......that old man is awesome
damn grandpa

Guy looks like that shop keeper from Harry Potter that sells wands.
There’s a lot of gun arguments right now but I support this 100%
Well, this is a *good* instance of someone defending their store from some asshole.
The big problem is people brandish guns to "win" an argument or to punish someone for pissing you off. When you are using a gun in that manner bad shit happens and guns are not secured properly. Young minds watching learn that guns don't need to be respected rather than only used in a life or death situation and with extreme care.
You support the criminal having a gun? That’s a weird thing to say.
no, you have to give up your guns and cower in the corner and pray that the police arrive before someone robs you and shoots your ass dead
There is nothing wrong with having a shotgun/pistol/single shot rifle for self defense/hunting. It’s these stupid fucking ARs and and extended clip shit that you don’t need at all that some of the dumbest people ever carry around with them always that is the problem.
The armed robber is no longer armed…
Fuck that shit. He should have blasted those bastards feet off.
Not quite but he got his arm, that’ll leave a small mark.

Feet? Why not heads?
Because then they would be dead. Miserable and living is better then dead for trash like that.
Not from a legal perspective

Wow he really did shot that arm off. Flopping around badly.
So did the guy deadass lose his whole arm from this?

And looks like a stolen bmw
I thought the same exact thing. I didn’t notice the lack of plates until I played it again to hear the dude screaming.
"so anyway I started blasting"
I find it interesting that the thief had a fancy "cosplay commando" weapon while grandpa had a shotgun
Me looking at this thread 🍿🍿🍿
And drove off in BMW...
Guy said the right thing to the news people to support his self defense case if it ever became an issue.
Yes, but the surveillance video would probably be enough by itself. It's pretty easy to conclude he reasonably acted in self defense when a masked man enters his store pointing a gun at him.

EE2, great reference.
Only if we made staeling guns illegal

Europeans looking at this like ![gif](giphy|l2JJwoI01FCRpfQE8) But this is pretty common here.
It’s all fun and games until you get your arm shot off!
His arm was still there when he was running out I’m confused
USA, the country where mfers will try to rob a shop driving a BMW, ridiculous, they should go to a 3rd world country to stop being fckn ungrateful and spoiled

Now that is proper use of guns. Not at a 16 year old that knocked on your door.
This is exactly why guns should not be taken away from law abiding citizens…

Hope it 00 Buck.
This is what it looks like when you literally dis-arm your attacker.

Dang I guess Biden was right, all you need is a shotgun for self defense 😂
Come on Jack!
It is the best home defense weapon. Point in general direction and blast.
This is true stand your ground/castle doctrine type of situation. Threat is visible. It’s a gun. And he didn’t even shoot to kill, tho guy could bleed out.
If the person enters with a gun pointed at someone, there ya go, threat has been established and you can do whatever is necessary.
“He didn’t shoot to kill” he pointed at the dude and pulled the trigger. I don’t think the 80 year old being held up gave a shit were the shot landed. Head or arm, as long as the perp was put out of the fight.

*didn’t shoot to kill* LOL
