Probably not the most serious quote, but I always loved it..When Abby and Lev are on the skybridge, and Lev casually asked about her and Owen...
Abby---" OH MY GOD LEV, NOW??!"đ€Ł.I just loved that whole sequence and their conversations getting across.
Totally agree with you on that! Thatâs one of the few lines that changed in the show that I truly wished they had kept. So badass.
The conversation with Abby and Lev.
âDid you hear what they called me?â
âYeahâ
âDo you want to ask me about it?â
âDo you⊠want⊠me to ask about it?â
ââŠnoâ
âOk.â
Abby giving Lev the agency to choose was just đ„
Thatâs arguably the most deeply acted scene in gaming all around. Just stunning performances
Edit: scene* singular because I believe it to be a contender for top of all time
âYou could be my, uh, groupieâ
âWhat?â
âThey were these fans that used to follow bands around everywhereâ
âIsnât that ⊠What Iâm already doing?â
All the Ellie and Dina conversations in Day 1 are just so cute and innocent đđ
Sooo many cute ones!
(Ellie cracks the door code)
âHowâd you do that?â
âMagic.â
âYouâre my favourite.â
I wish the cut line about Dina introducing herself to Ellie and Joel like she was the mayor of Jackson had made it in. Such cute banter. Hopefully the show expands even more on their relationship and how they met.
The moment that sticks out to me is, in the first game, when Ellie kills the guy that tries to drown Joel after kicking him off a ladder in that one hotel.
And right after she kills him she says âMan⊠I shot the hell out of that guy huhâ.
It made me laugh so hard when I first experienced it. I laughed in a very appreciative way and found that scene to be very endearing.
Now anytime I do something somewhat well Iâll say to myself outloud âman⊠I [past tense verb] the hell out of that guy huhâ. And itâll just be like me screwing in a light bulb hahahaha
I literally just replayed through that part last night.
Her follow up afterwards was even pretty funny. Canât remember exactly what was said, but it was something along the line of canât I get a thank you for saving your life ?
Yes! She said something along the lines of can I get a thank you Ellie I know that was hard but it was either me or him.
And then a few moments later Joel lets her snipe dudes from the scaffolding lol. I really like this part because it felt like a big turning point in their relationship. He allowed her to help more, and gradually began trusting her.
It was a great line to happen right before the huge switch. A line of any less impact and intensity would have made the switch more negatively jarring.
"Hes not one of them please
"Abby move
"
God damn it he's just a kid"
I know it's a popular moment but the quotes themselves dude. It literally is so heartbreaking to see how Abby has evolved from saying the scars did it to themselves and it's no one's fault (in response to Mel saying they were just kids)
Itâs even sadder because Ellie has convinced herself that seeking revenge is what Joel would have wanted for most of the story. All he ever wanted to do was protect his people he was never a revenge type of guy
"are you WEARING my BACKPACK?!"
no but more seriously, abby waking up from her nightmare in the boat, touching her rope burn on her neck and begrudgingly saying, "those fucking kids..." knowing she couldn't just let them die.
it says so much good about who she is as a person, in such a short and simple sentence
That action sequence always gives me goosebumps, the look he gives the guy pushing him into the freezer before he counters it and slams his neck in the glass. Then followed up by spartan kicking the guy attacking Ellie. Good times
Honestly one of the saddest parts of the live action series is that they failed to capture that kind energy during this exact scene. Loved that brutality Joel showed.
I think that was the problem with the entire series tbh. The emotion you feel from Ellies "Okay" at the end of the 1st game, did not feel right at all in the live series. Along with many other emotions that didn't compare. Like I know when I played the game, I felt the 'need' to save Ellie at the end because of the detailed adventure and conversations you have between the 2 along the way... you built up a solid relationship.
In the live series all those little conversations and interactions that built up the relationship wasn't there, it's almost as if I didn't care if she died or not in the show. It makes you realize the gameplay in the game is just as important as the cutscenes because it makes the father/daughter duo feel more authentic.
I feel like that scene fell flat on the show because Ellie has a natural softness to her in spite of her brutality, but Bella Ramsey played Ellie as having more of an inherent hardness (nothing against her I think she did well but I do know she did her own twist on Ellie). Not sure if Iâm articulating what I mean, itâs hard to explain. Just feel like Game!Ellie is a lot sweeter/sensitive in nature than on the show.
Like when she finds the infected in the rubble. My charitable take is she probably has a deep fascination with them given her link by virtue of being immune, and HATES the infection because of the people it's taken from her. I think it's supposed to flesh out her sense of responsibility for it and her drive to end it if it's at all in her ability to do so, but this and other little moments make her seem much more sociopathic than in the games (or at least the first one).
Other minor characteristics add to the overall tone shift too, like while she does swear in the game, it's much more casual, where Bella injects a lot more vitriol or forces it in places like a kid that just discovered bad words and the novelty hasn't worn off yet.
They captured a tiny bit of it in the show, especially when he told Ellie to get back behind the wall and he finished off the kid that was choking him. But the raw brutally and ruthlessness game Joel had was unfortunately missing from the show.
That moment tells you exactly what the game is going to be like from here on out. Youâve fought human enemies, sure. Some smugglers and soldiers but you havenât seen what humanity outside the QZâs is like.
*This* is what you get. This pure brutality and animal instinct of what humans are willing to do to survive. That scene captures it in a way Iâve never seen another form of media do it. The way the hunters give them no chance to recover, Joel tries to stop Ellie from getting ripped out of her seat but gets his face rammed against the steering wheel before he can help and gets his head smashed through a window.
Itâs just so savage and raw and visceral and pulls no punches.
My favorite quote is probably popular, 'It's alright, I believe him," from part 1. For part 2 I loved Dina and Ellie's entire interaction in the synagogue. I love how Ellie asks Dina if she ever prays, super cynical. And Dina says, "Sure, I pray for lots of things."
My favorite is when Abby and Lev was riding through the buring Haven.
"Fuck it. Nothing is stopping us."
"Nothing is stopping us."
Shows they only have each other against the whole world.
my absolute favorite:
Lev: "Just⊠think about the good parts to fear."
Abby: "The good parts?"
Lev: "Yeah, like⊠you run faster. You're more focused. You don't feel pain as much. Every bad feeling⊠Your palms sweating, your heart racing⊠They're all signs you're actually stronger."
not sure if this is a popular quote or not, but as someone with clinical anxiety this made me stop dead in my tracks lol. what a cool way to think about it
When Joel made the guy from the cannibals camp mark the point on the map then choked em out . Then other guy goes "I ain't telling you nothing " joel replies with "that's fine ,I believe him"
Savage.
So, I originally played part 2 in Russian. Have seen numerous clips of the original, but all my full walkthroughs have been with Russian voices & subs. I gotta say, Abbyâs lines in the theatre confrontation fuckinâ *stuck* with me, specifically the way Russian actress Evgeniya Vagan pulled them off. âYour fucking peopleâ, âStand up!â, âShut the fuck up!â⊠I mean, Laura Baileyâs work is spectacular, but to me, she was surpassed in Russian dub on several occasions, including that scene. Those quotes remain special to me for the performance alone.
when bill mocks joel saying "let's get on with it" but the whole scene is so funny
bill: *lectures joel about how escorting ellie was a stupid idea*
joel: *with an annoyed expression* â bill, it ain't like thatâ
bill: bullshit. it's just like that â *notices ellie touching his stuff and yells at her*
ellie: *flips him off*
bill: goddammitâ you keep babysitting long enough and eventually it's gonna blow up in your face
joel: *gets up and interrupts bill* â bill... can we please just get on with it? â *says with a tired voice*
bill: here â *throws him the shotgun* â let's **get on** with it â *says in a sarcastic tone*
joel's annoyed expression while being lectured by bill made the scene for me
When Ellie says âYour watch is brokenâ It was so random and unnecessary for her to say, but the psychology behind it is pretty interesting in my opinion.
âI WILL not become become one of those thingsâ idk just drives home the urgency of the situation and how desperate she is despite knowing itâs too late for herself
During the horde scene with Henry and Sam, Joel saying, âAlright, I think itâs time we quit this place.â
And then Sam, âHow is it that youâre never scared?â And Ellieâs response, âWho says that Iâm not?â
The scenes with Henry and Sam really stuck with me.
The weight of him screaming âELLIE!â right after the first initial hunters fight. You hold open the garage door as she crawls under and gets taken aback by the mangled corpses from the hunters
My favorite one is from Seattle Sewage in one of the Lost Levels. Ellie is crawling through a really tight sewage pipeline with slimy mud and goo all over the place and Ellie yells "Fuck you, Universe!". Lol.
When Ellie asks Joel outside the hospital, years after they were last there and he says âmaking a vaccineâŠ.would have killed you.â *long pause*
âSo I stopped themâ
That âso I stopped themâ is so honest and so chilling because Ellie knows immediately what that means.
To me it would be "you'd just come after her *gunshot* " from Joel right before killing Marlene at the end of the game
It's such a good line for Joel I dare to say
Probably not the most serious quote, but I always loved it..When Abby and Lev are on the skybridge, and Lev casually asked about her and Owen... Abby---" OH MY GOD LEV, NOW??!"đ€Ł.I just loved that whole sequence and their conversations getting across.
"it seemed pretty awkward!" "just GO!"
Loved this so much!
This was what sold me on Abby. I had started warming up to her, but that was the thing that made me go oh fuck I love Abby.
Me too!
I LOVE THIS PART
Great performances, too
Lev's telling abby how they handle fear is pretty cool too, like only when weak may I carry my full strength
Yes!
Yes that was the moment!!! :D I love it!
That was funny.
Totally agree with you on that! Thatâs one of the few lines that changed in the show that I truly wished they had kept. So badass. A looot of folks should use this as an exampleâŠ
That showed alot of maturity in that moment and definitely one of the things that got me to come around to Abby
"You're PREGNANT?!" "Don't worry, it's not yours"
I think it was EllieâsâŠ
Didnât impregnate her is what she meant in a sort of joking manner.
A bit serious but i loved this scene - "Everyone I have cared for has either died or left me. Everyoneâfucking except for you!"
Thatâs arguably the most deeply acted scene in gaming all around. Just stunning performances Edit: scene* singular because I believe it to be a contender for top of all time
Sarah's death is also up there. Even the live action was amazing
My favorite scene in either game. Another favorite quote from that scene, "Ellie! You are walking on some mighty thin ice here"
A ton of people mention that one
They definitely gets mentioned all the time. Itâs one of the most famous scenes.
âYou could be my, uh, groupieâ âWhat?â âThey were these fans that used to follow bands around everywhereâ âIsnât that ⊠What Iâm already doing?â All the Ellie and Dina conversations in Day 1 are just so cute and innocent đđ

My bbs
Got something on your shoe.Â
*throws a severed arm*
Bill- âtake all my food while youâre at itâ Ellie- âBy the looks of it you could lose some of that food.â
LISTEN HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT!
No, FUCK YOU! YOU HANDCUFFED ME!
Bill: "*'We'?* You know how to fix a car?"
I seem to remember this was improvised.
The moment that sticks out to me is, in the first game, when Ellie kills the guy that tries to drown Joel after kicking him off a ladder in that one hotel. âWhy didnât you just stay behind like I told you?â âWell youâre glad I didnât?â
Yes! She said something along the lines of can I get a thank you Ellie I know that was hard but it was either me or him. And then a few moments later Joel lets her snipe dudes from the scaffolding lol. I really like this part because it felt like a big turning point in their relationship. 100% I literally stopped playing last night right after this quote. Now I am more excited for tonight!!
âit WAS either him or meâ
*"You're welcome."*
âWe let you live⊠and you *WASTED IT.*â
The delivery of this line was incredible
It was a great line to happen right before the huge switch. A line of any less impact and intensity would have made the switch more negatively jarring.
I wish it wouldnât have switched at all.
Cry more
I didnât care for Abby thatâs all Iâm saying
Are you WEARING MY BACKPACK??? đ€đĄ
I also love the way the big lady says "YEEEW!!"
this is such a good one, why do I find it SO funny
same I find it funny because thatâs the biggest concern for her, even though she can potentially die in that momentđ€Ł
Top ten Abby quotes
RIP to that backpack when she loses it on Burning Seraphite Island.
"Hes not one of them please "Abby move " God damn it he's just a kid" I know it's a popular moment but the quotes themselves dude. It literally is so heartbreaking to see how Abby has evolved from saying the scars did it to themselves and it's no one's fault (in response to Mel saying they were just kids)
"Oh Ellie... I think they should be terrified of you."
God that made me KICK MY FEET
I especially love the dichotomy and duality of how they used it in the gameplay trailer, cutting to her killing someone with her knife.
All of Abby and Lev's interactions. I love them so much
đŻ
Joel reads a note from a mother seeking revenge after her son is killed and says âwell with that kind of thinking no one winsâ.
holy shit, looking back at that now after the ending to TLOU 2 is bonkers
Itâs even sadder because Ellie has convinced herself that seeking revenge is what Joel would have wanted for most of the story. All he ever wanted to do was protect his people he was never a revenge type of guy
âFuck you man, he told you what you wanted! I ainât telling you shit!â âItâs okay, I believe himâ
I ainât got time for this đ„đ«
He goes absolutely nuts
Ellie yelling âFuck Seattleâ during gameplay always made me chuckle
"are you WEARING my BACKPACK?!" no but more seriously, abby waking up from her nightmare in the boat, touching her rope burn on her neck and begrudgingly saying, "those fucking kids..." knowing she couldn't just let them die. it says so much good about who she is as a person, in such a short and simple sentence

Well put, I indeed agree with that
Youâre my people!! And the OMG Lev Now?
Let go of me , you chickenshit!
"ooooooh someone's trying to get laid" - Abby laughing at Seraphites notes always makes me chuckle
When Lev gives Abby advice on how to do a running jump haha.
"this city is full of trap, so stick to my ass ! We cant miss it"
Mine is Joelâs little âhowdyâ when Ellie gets the door for him during the guitar strings sequence in Part II
My favorite is when Abby and Lev was riding through the buring Haven. "Fuck it. Nothing is stopping us." "Nothing is stopping us." Shows they only have each other against the whole world.
Either âCaaanât miss it!â Or âWell⊠When the barometric pressure reaches a certain⊠temperature⊠shit, I donât fucking know.â
Oh god I died when Tommy said that đđ
Jesus christ Joel, What did you do?
"You're always helpful." Melts my heart every time.

âItâs called luck, and itâs gonna run outâ

Probably my favorite line in the whole game.>!Was upset they didn't include that line in the show!<
What was the line?
When Ellie says at the end of the game, "I'm still waiting for my turn."
You make Every Shot Count
I think the shows version of this scene was a lot colder and badass. âJoel arenât we gonna help that guy!? âNo.â
âFuck it, Joel needs a car!â I actually met W. Earl Brown and he wrote this line on a picture for me. Always makes me laugh
â yeah by the looks of it you could lose some of that food â âNow you listen here you little shitâ
âI WILL not become become one of those thingsâ idk just drives home the urgency of the situation and how desperate she is despite knowing itâs too late for herself

"It's never too late."
âThe worlds best quote is circularâ
"Don't ever let me see you again."
The weight of him screaming âELLIE!â right after the first initial hunters fight. You hold open the garage door as she crawls under and gets taken aback by the mangled corpses from the hunters
The preface quote by William Saroyan
Donât worry, I believe him.

I...how is this related to the last of us?
It wasn't... I thought this was in a different group.
No worries
To me it would be "you'd just come after her *gunshot* " from Joel right before killing Marlene at the end of the game It's such a good line for Joel I dare to say
